162  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: 1080Ti Specific - Best mining option on: July 23, 2017, 03:35:11 PM
Does someone explain how I can install 2 1080ti on one 500W? I didnt see another double 8 pin wire to connect.

even if you had the wires to connect it, youd better be careful. sometimes a 500W psu only has 350-400W of 12V, and/or multiple 12v rails.  at full power, a pair of 1080ti would easily trip the psu. at drastic powerlimits, youd still be looking at 400w+ draw when counting the mobo/cpu/ram/ssd

Is the payout good with Skein?

about $6/day right now

Im doing ~875MH with 80%TDP, +160core, -100mem

you paid nearly $1000USD for a 1080ti? that's pretty high.

as for power use, set a realistic tdp of ~75% and each card should draw <200W, and the entire system ~1150W
165  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: CPU sweetspot on: June 15, 2017, 01:32:11 AM
a celeron can handle a miner with identical cards (eg all 480s), but is under more load if mixing algorithms (such as zcash on 3xx cards simultaneous to eth on 4xx cards) and shows a bit of delay. works fine, but you might consider $20 more for an i3 on mixed rigs
166  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: How much time does it take to build a "typical" mining rig on: June 15, 2017, 01:28:30 AM
1-3hrs to source parts locally (or 2weeks online)
1-2hrs to assemble
1hr to install OS
1hr to get drivers and mining software up to date
1-2hrs to tune the cards. (2-4hrs if you really fiddle with them)

setup changes a lot. tight spaces with wiring or airflow concerns may add an hour to assembly. issues with drivers (win7 installations dont play well with usb3.0) or pcie settings can add another hour or two

your first one will take an afternoon to get running at 90-95% optimal, and another day or two to finesse it
167  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: 1080 Ti mining OC and power? on: June 15, 2017, 01:21:39 AM
Has anyone got a complied version for windows for the miner that does Skein 1000MH/s??

or at least some institutions on how to do it step by step on windows??

I have windows binary which does 911mh/s and 76% power limit + 220core @190W

i seem to get issues at >+170core, but mine is just the SC black version. at 80% powerlimit getting around 890-910MH
168  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: GPU & CPU BENCHMARKS FOR ZCASH MINING! on: June 11, 2017, 08:39:01 PM
GPU's MODEL NAME: EVGA 1080ti SC2 (Black)
VRAM: 11gb
CORE/MEMORY CLOCK: 1960/5400
HASHRATE: ~630
OS: Windows 10
TDP(OPTIONAL): 85%, 215 watt (70 Celsius, 40-50% fans)

Part of me wishes i went with the iCx or ftw3 versions for better cooling, but at the same time the heat produced is my real limitation as summer arrives and using a lower tdp is needed to keep my computer room under 25C. Ive had pretty meh overclocking results, and pushing core past a +150mhz (or mem past +400) tends to reset my device driver within a few minutes. not sure if its a thermal reason or simply a lower binning
169  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Recommandations for NVIDIA rigs ? on: June 11, 2017, 08:31:38 PM
you can get 1060 3gb cards for a steal (<$200 for the itx versions) right now and get ROI as quickly as a $300 480 card can

but you can get a better density with 1070 cards. and a 1080ti is also pulling a greta return and will always retain a strong resale value (easier to resell a 1080ti for $500 next year than a trio of $125 1060 cards)
170  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: GPU Fan Replacement: How often and How expensive? on: June 11, 2017, 08:26:51 PM
I was just curious what is the going rate on GPU fans lasting on the mining rigs.... i ask this because im just researching the future cost of the operation as i dive deeper into it...

Of the few post i did manage to find while searching that talked briefly on it, multiple people mentioned having to replace fans within 2 years of placing them in service... so is this true?

Also what is the going price and who do yall typically go to for these fan replacements? 2 post i seen mentioned prices, 1 said it was $59 for the set of 3 on a few of his.. and another post mentioned $70 for the set on his post..

generally they hold up pretty well. Ive got 270x cards that i bought for litecoin in 2014 and theyve probably had a full 2yrs of 24/7 operation (were offline for much of 2016). out of 3 cards (2 fans each), only one fan is showing signs of failure (bearing is a bit off balance and sounds 'clickity' at some rpms)

tbh you can buy entire heatsink/fan assemblies on ebay for a reasonable price, and many cards share component/mounting patterns so just because your dual-x fans fail doesnt mean a triple-x shroud isnt a possibility to replace it with. lots of people convert to watercooling and sell the unneeded shroud
171  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Is it still worth to buy a GPU for MINING? on: June 11, 2017, 08:18:57 PM
Whatever you buy (580/1070) you'll get your money back in less than 2 months.
At that point Vega cards will have been released or will be very close to release. Sell the card then and buy a Vega GPU.

You mean I have to listen to the noise and pay attention to the miner for 2 months just to make a few hundred bucks. Ridiculous  Cheesy Cheesy Angry Cheesy Hardly a get Rich quick setup, dont know why People bother, Guess they are hoping for that 100x rise in price on an Exchange.

its pretty much set-and-forget. the first day or two may involve some tuning, but once stable gpu rigs can run weeks or months without issue.

and if you build a $3000 rig with better cards (such as 1070/1080/1080ti), you might make $6000+ within a year and still have about $2000 hardware resale.  hard to hate on a potential 100-200% profit within a year
172  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: What are the best replacement for RX 480 / 470s for Ether Mining? on: June 11, 2017, 08:15:47 PM
I am using 1060 3GB Mini with single fan option.

The rigs are running cooler and better as compared to 480's
Better in which way? The hashrates must be a way lower.

zec hashrate beats the 480, and eth hashrate is still ~3/4 as much at a similar/lower price and better power usage.

you can find the mini 1060 cards for as little as $200usd/$260cad
173  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: What are the best replacement for RX 480 / 470s for Ether Mining? on: June 11, 2017, 08:13:48 PM
Read here thats easy to mix AMD and Nvidia Cards on Win10. Out of curiosity the will to expand how it is possible to mix the drivers ?  Roll Eyes

install both drivers. its pretty much as simple as that IMO. ive got a mixed rig of 270x and 1070 cards
174  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [INTEREST CHECK ONLY] Casascius 1BTC Silver, original owner w/ PGP docs on: May 24, 2017, 12:52:37 AM
you're probably looking at about 1.8-2.3BTC based on how the collectibles market is doing lately, and your own urgency

if its your last one, why sell it? I love my coins and have enough difficulty parting ways with duplicates
175  Economy / Collectibles / Re: FOR SALE: 2013 Casascius Gilt Gold/Silver 1.0 BTC coin [FUNDED, 1Ag6] on: May 23, 2017, 02:36:42 AM
still for sale!

with the rise in USDBTC, im a bit more flexible to offers. a 4day auction went for only 1.82BTC so im looking for ~2.3 BTC for this piece
176  Economy / Collectibles / Re: WTS:Casascius 2 FA bars. on: May 23, 2017, 02:26:33 AM
By chance do you have any private key versions? I would like to buy back one of the ones I sold you in 2014  Tongue

im open to offers on mine.
177  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Silent mining (passive GPU cooler or very quiet aftermarket cooler) on: April 15, 2017, 04:34:39 PM
Best cooled card you can get is MSI Gaming X , two large fans that run very quite while spinning lots of air , you can under clock , under volt , get very decent hash-rate and still runs ultra quiet .

i have the gaming-x 470 in openair setup, and the fans are idle almost half the time. very quiet
178  Other / Archival / Re: Pictures of your mining rigs! on: April 15, 2017, 04:25:39 PM
What about the old stuff(GPU's)? will u sell them all ? Roll Eyes

usually you can. but right now a lot of stuff is making money still.

I have r9-270x cards that are about 3yrs old, still making around $1/day each. once they stop making money at zec ill either sell them at $80ish each hopefully, or make keychains and pendants with them.

179  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: How will this change the world of mining?? GTX 1080 / 1070 on: April 15, 2017, 04:20:09 PM
^gtx1080 isnt much better for memory-based work, but core-based is about 30% better.   so a 1070/$350 and a 1080/$450 are about equal, but the 1080 allows better density and might be easier to resell
180  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Spondoolies-Tech - carrier grade, data center ready mining rigs on: April 15, 2017, 04:16:31 PM
Thanks for that Guy. I wasn't convinced they were using it anyway but that adds much useful data.
They are not. They didn't even know about the covert method Gmaxwell found out until he published.
They did careful analysis afterwards of what needed, and got to the conclusion that they will need to tapeout custom 130nm and add it to the miner board to support this method.
Which makes their violent reaction to a BIP proposal that makes asicboost not work somewhat baffling. I guess they were more objecting to the intent in the move's aggression rather than the actual BIP, but it made most of the community convinced they were using it covertly.

so let me understand: asicboost essentially is an added logicgate at chiplevel that determines whether a specific nonce is worth hashing, and if not, the chip doesnt do any other work for that cycle (hence the savings). So its not any faster at mining, it just saves some power??

if thats the case, it actually serves to decentralize mining by making minimal savings for the big (cheap-power) miners but significant savings for smaller miners who have more expensive electricity. ie: someone paying $0.03/kwh saves maybe $5/month, while someone paying $0.10/kwh saves $15/month
