161  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: HoboNickels - HBN - High Fast Stake - Version 2.0! More Secure, Less Intensive on: November 19, 2017, 09:44:18 PM
Is there any plan to bring the staking interest back up? I miss my awesome staking Sad

It's a bit of a double edged sword. It dilutes value, but also was a major incentive to new adopters

I hope not. Because of this hobonickels are becoming scarce and it will have longterm benefit on ist price.
30% is still huge interest imho

I have no plans to change anything else that deals with rewards or things of that nature. The only exception will be the change to allow stakes to mature and being staking after 1 day.  I thinking about getting that out as version 2.1 for EOY and have the hard fork set for 4 or 5 months later. Like April 2018 ish. But I have some other changes I want to get to first.

Im still holding the coins. Promising project but the volume is very little

Volume is only what we make of it. I try to buy and sell just about every day to help out both side.

Who is going to be the developer, admin, coin swapper for any of this?  Huh

Hint, it's not me...

Is there anyone who cares about CAPs that has any experience with actually doing any development work? Other then myself?  Speak now..
163  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [FORK] Bitcoin PoSW - Bitcoin Proof-of-Stake & Proof-of-Work Hybrid [BTSW] on: November 19, 2017, 02:12:11 AM
So this will fork off the current bitcoin chain 15.1? And integrate PoS with it?

Lots of challenges with this one, but it could be a top 10 coin if done correctly. What PoS technology will you use? PPC  or something different?
164  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Bottlecaps 2.1 UPDATE REQUIRED - HARDFORK JULY 4 2014 to 200% Annual PoS on: November 18, 2017, 04:05:24 PM
I'm curious as to how the attack on CAP was actually done. Since it didn't require someone to have 51% , but merely to generate faster blocks, how exactly did the attacker accomplish this?

Are there any other possible theoretical attacks we haven't seen on a POS network?

I'd like to see more the community have more discussions about this in order to minimize potential issues in the the future.

it was explained above a bit... I was under the same impression about 51%. I believe this was actually a double spend attack

Yes just a double spend attack. Cryptopia shares some of the blame by only getting 20 confirmations.
165  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / BitCoin PoS on: November 17, 2017, 11:41:31 PM
Any one got any plans to Fork BTC 15.1 fro PoW + PoS Coin? with entire block chain and air drop like BCH.

5% Yearly Stake, 10 min block time, SHA256 I guess?

I think it would take a top 10 spot in no time.

166  Economy / Economics / Re: NASDAQ vs BTC on: November 17, 2017, 04:03:49 AM
Nope, no 30% correction, maybe a 10% at the best, but it is def taking off!

I am looking at each of the times BTC "bubbled"

#1 From a base of .80 to a high of $35, back a new base of $5-10  (2011)

#2 From a base of $15 to a high of $200, back to a new base of $100-110 (2012 13)

#3 From a base of $100 to a high of $1150, back to a new base of 500-600 (2013-14)

#4 From a base of $800 to a high of 8000?( I actually guess 10k), back to a new base of  4k? (2016-17)

#5 From a base of 5k to a high of 50K back to new base of 30k? (2019 -21?)??

...
I thought with pow/pos you would need 51% of both pos and pow to attack.

No, you only need to be able to generate blocks faster then the main chain, in your own private side chain. Then introduce those blocks into the main chain after you have sent funds and traded them. This will cause orphans that will back out your transactions that were sent. Just have to be sure you shut off the wallet that sent the funds, so it will not roll back and re-send like the rest of the honest clients. Then you restore from backup and re-sync to the "new" main chain. Wash, rinse and repeat.

Here the thing guys. I have very little vested interest right now in CAPs. I own less then a mill.  A fork will such as this will take many many hours to code and coordinate. And even with a higher confirmations an attack is still possible due to the lower difficulty.  Unless the checkpoint server is revived.

I'm not looking for a hand out. Just being realistic here.

I would much rather have someone else get their hands dirty, and I will help guide and review their work.

I agree with the Fork/Credit Cryptopia option - I'll donate Ej12gGJWgUXjvHrMkt9kwjhM8tVY9PUfA7 to your existing stack to allocate as you wish to whoever ends up getting their hands dirty. Additionally, PM me and I'll cover the VPS for the checkpoint server.

Thank you!

I will try to find some time to figure out the best way to fork and credit. I have some ideas but getting a workable copy that all clients everywhere can agree on could prove difficult. But we'll see. Absolutely no promises on time lines or even if. But I will give it some of my current brain allocation.

Can someone reach out to Cryptopia and figure out exactly how much they are down? Also if they will give it, the CAP address used to deposit the funds and the BTC wallet used to withdraw.

I'll check back tomorrow or Friday.

Here are the raw transactions that are stuck in memory pool likely some are from the attacker.

I'm sure someone with some slopping could figure out where the coins were sent and by whom.

Not much I can do to help.

Options are:
- To roll back the chain past the first attack. We are looking at a loss of multiple days, most client will have issues will cause a lot of stress.  But damage is already done.
- Create a fork, that will credit Cryptopia address the coins that were lost. Assuming they were the one targeted.

To prevent this, we need a checkpoint server or much higher confirmations and difficulty.

I can run a checkpoint server, but I can't foot the bill for a VPS to run it. So I would need the community to help with that, or I can give the key to someone else to run. But if that someone does not understand the security, responsibility and how to safety use it, it could kill the chain.

Yes, that worked, thank you. ! Its re-downloading the wallet, but that happens sometime!

The Chain is available on hobonickels.info if you want to save time. It will take you up to about 3 or 4 weeks ago.
174  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: HoboNickels - HBN - High Fast Stake - Version 2.0! More Secure, Less Intensive on: November 01, 2017, 03:40:40 PM

ahh yep, i can make it as sum of 3 values, yet seems only hbn needs that dance

I'll check at some point and figure out why getbalance doesn't show staking.  Fairly sure it is the same as other staking coins, but I will take your word for it, that it is different.

So I did look at a few other wallets. All of them use getblance the same way. When a coin is actively staking it is not part of wallet balance.  Which does make sense, as during this time, it is not spendable, until it is fully confirmed or orphaned.

I don't know how you handle this with other coins, but I would be glad to have a look and make adjustments if it is appropriate to do so.

Looks like an error in the qmake file. I see if I can get it corrected here soon.

In the mean time, since you already compiled the headless version you have the leveldb library in place.  So you should be able to comment out that line in the qmake. Then once it creates your Makefile you should be able to just do a make.

It looks like I may have forced the hand of H2C.  I had mined HBN there, and since the 2.0 fork, I have not been able to get my HBN withdraw.  I finally opened a ticket.  I got a reply last night, and got the deposit.  (my interpretation - they finally updated their wallet to the correct chain)

In anycase today, they sent this out

   Subject:
      [ HASH-TO-COINS ] H2C These coins will be deleted in a week
   From:
   HASH-TO-COINS<poolmaster@hash-to-coins.com>   (Add as Preferred Sender)

This coins will be delisted at 10/05/2017

    BLCN BlockCoin - dead coin
DOT Dotcoin - coin becomes swap, read official news at https://www.cryptopia.co.nz/News
HBN Hobonickels - broken, mining impossible (last try at 10/30/2017 on latest sources v2.0.1.0-g-V2.0)
UNIFY UNIFY - PoW phase ended, mining not available

Please do the withdrawal request if you have any of these coins

We are dropping POW anyway - but I took offense to "broken"

The reason they may consider them broken is because I turned off flash miming. So they can't just send 100% hash power can expect to get all the blocks.  Anyway looking at the explorer I still see about 15-20% of blocks coming from PoW. So it still work fine, especially for solo!!

BTW. Since the block chain is much slower now, PoW will exist for about 1 more year. So plenty of time to put a GAW miner or 2 on the network and just let em go.

I completely agree here.  I've been involved in Alts since 2013, and HBN is the only coin from back then that I still mess with (besides LTC, but that doesn't count).  I always wanted a good POS coin, and HBN still seems like the survivor.  Just look at the run up of price in BTC, and HBN still holds its value.

As long as:
1) the developer is somewhat active, and responsive
2) there is some community
3) the network syncs, and there are peers
4) the wallet works, and stakes
5) there is an exchange with HBN

Then I'm in.  Seems like a good bet.  It's a very small part of my port. but it's worth my time to maintain.

IMHO the only thing that keeps some people away is the memory usage. I have plans and a road map to address this. Not an easy fix, and won't happen overnight. But it is in my sights for sure.

Also that last month or 2 has been totally dominated by real work. Huge projects going on and all extra time has been spent on that. It is starting to come to a close, so I should be able to get back into more wallet development here soon enough.

But things have been looking pretty good from the network and wallet perspective. So I've been watching that to see how things will go.

One thing I noticed with 2.0.1.0

The s4c doesn't seem to be working.  I've had 5 stake blocks without any sending to the charity address after 25 confirmations... Latest stake has 38 confirmations as of this post.

EDIT: I disabled and re-enabled the s4c.  I'll edit again when I get another stake to let you know the outcome.

EDIT 2:  That fixed it.  Had to disable and then enable s4c in order for it to work right.

Tranz:  I reproduced this a couple times.  Every time the wallet is restarted the s4c says it's enabled but it isn't.  Not a big deal, just a bug report for you.

On 2.0.1.0.

hmm ok, thanks I will look into the bug report.
