i also downloaded the 1.5.2 and it is not syncing not a single connection and i added the nodes to the conf file

One of the changes will have some hard coded seeds..

So the stake changes havnt taken effect yet?

No but when they put out a new wallet it will

We are looking at about 1 month dev time.  Then the fork will be schedule for 30 days from release. So plenty of time to mine or buy...

Alright Tranz and I spoke on IRC, he's going to take over development.

We're going to increase the stake to 200% as we discussed.  He's going to make the non-forking updates first and then in a few weeks we'll fork to the new reward system.

BitJohn has given me access to the official GitHub, Facebook, and John Eden account so we won't need to make a new thread or anything.  All the info can stay here.  Please let me know of any info on info in the OP that's out of date/incorrect.

Tranz feel free to add any info as you see fit.

Agreed.
200% Yearly ROI, 15 days min weight 45 max. So approx 8% after 15 days.  Max 1,000 coins PoS reward. This will prevent a single huge user from causing a sudden spike in inflation, but is still very generous.

Plus other key fixes, and some gui enhancements. I'll be coding into my github, and once all is said and done, we will fork into the main repo, and get clients out to you guys.  If anyone would like to Q/C while this is happening, that is great. I'll post changes as they happen here.

Thanks!

Max 1000 coins meaning if someone buys 50k you will only stake 1000 coins every 15 days instead of 4000? or can you break them in to smaller transaction like 10k each block and have 5 blocks so each can stake 800 coins?

Correct. You can break them into smaller transactions. And get the max reward. But if one person grabs 100k and waits a year, they would not get 200k interest, they would get 1,000.  This makes for a healthy network and is a good compromise to slow inflation a bit.

We can talk about the perfect number. I picked 1,000 simply because it allows for  5,000 coins to age for the max weight and still get the max reward, approximately.

So what are the official stats of the new client?. This whole thread is dis-organized and gone to shit.

min/max
PoS %

thanks!

No changes to staking in that release from Coinwisper., still low. Only fixes to improve the client. He did also remove PoW, but that could be changed easily.
1046  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Bottlecaps v1.5.2 Just Released Checkpoint Node New Wallet Design! Please Update on: May 15, 2014, 09:16:16 PM
I respect all the opinions in this thread. It looks to me to be split 60/40 in favor of moving to a higher PoS.  I don't want to cause any strife, and I certainly am not trying to pump and dump this coin. I would very much like it to get a nice steady hash and high net weight.

Moving to 200% yearly degrading will give people a reason to mine and hold this coin again. It fill the niche perfectly.

Very low 1-5% PPC,BC, AC, WC and a few others (CAPS Current)
Low 25-50% Mint, PHS
Mid 100% HBN, NVC
High 200% CAPS Future)
Very High 500% TEK.

This coin will never compete in the market at a lower PoS percentage.  If you want this coin to survive, it must give people a reason to hold it.

Flound are you for or against me getting involved? Since you are the keeper of the keys, I will yield to you.  But for me to help, it involves moving the PoS up, moving the min weight down. And many other developments. But it all comes as one package.

I await your response.

Thanks!

Edit: Flound and I will speak about this privately tonight.

1047  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Bottlecaps v1.5.2 Just Released Checkpoint Node New Wallet Design! Please Update on: May 15, 2014, 02:45:48 AM
My biggest concern: Coin creation rate vs. Market Demand      example-Pennies/CENT

If it stakes too high or too often people are going to make regular profit takings and drive the value down in a tragic "CENT death-spiral."  Unfortunately once the average alt-holder makes ROI they won't care if the coin holds value, they'll just keep dumping.

To be fair, I did keep a few million CENT for the fond memories Smiley

Agreed! Let's see if the math plays out.

Currently at 3,000,000 coins, if 1/2 of those stake at 250% we would double in 1 year.
Year 2 I think we would be closer adding 5,000,000 For 11-12MM total.
Year 3+ I think the PoS diff begins to take effect and we only add 6-7MM in that year.
Year 5+ I think we are up to 25 Million and diff has taken PoS down to 100% or lower.

We can also tighten the diff adjustment so PoS goes down faster.

We need a good number of coins distributed evenly, and a fast velocity of money.  I think higher inerest does these things, rather then cause an inflation spiral.  But as TG says, this is an experiment, so lets see.

I have reviewed the changes from Coinwisper. It is good work and should help for sure. I still believe the min stake days should be changed to help for faster block movement.  But otherwise it looks good by me. Many of those changes are in just  about every other PoS coin.

These are my thoughts:

1. keep the hard cap (this is VERY IMPORTANT)

There is no hard cap. It is an illusion.

Love your ideas Tranz.  Do you think it is best to stay with a 30 day stake?

Good question. I was only just thinking about this. I would say since we are dealing with 1 min block time, perhaps moving this to 15/45 might be better.
1051  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: HoboNickels - HBN - Version 1.4. Stake For Charity. on: May 14, 2014, 10:11:31 PM
Hi everyone,

I just want to let you know that I am going to be doing a bit of work for CAPs here in the near future. I am telling you this so, you can participate if you like, and so you are not worried about me leaving HBN, if code changes are slow to come over the next few weeks.

I am not leaving or abandoning HBN. In fact we have a lot of work to do, including some talk about hard forks. For bug fixes and network protection. And a few surprises!

But I figured CAP is a brother of HBN, so it needs a bit of love too.

You can read about my plans here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=241445.msg6698513#msg6698513

Thanks all!
1052  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Bottlecaps v1.5.2 Just Released Checkpoint Node New Wallet Design! Please Update on: May 14, 2014, 10:04:33 PM
Mr Tranz, coin control feature is at least to say awesome and is a must for every pos coin imo.

I just compiled a working exe from the original bottlecaps source. It seems to be syncing fine, but I will wait to make sure it syncs to the correct chain before celebrating. If it is synced on the correct chain I could add coin control to it without too much of a hassle.

That being said, if this coin stays at a 1% PoS rate, it wouldn't really be worth much time spending on the wallet. How soon could the community realistically reach consensus on changing things in main.cpp and kernel.cpp?  It seems like right now the CAP community is in slow motion, at least compared to the other coins I follow.

I am going to work on the wallet over the next few days/weeks. I plan to do a few things. Coin Control among them, but if you want to do that, that would be cool. Save me the trouble. If not no biggie.

I don't see much of a reason to change PoW, at least now.

I DO want to increase the PoS.  Unless I hear major objections, here is what I am going to code.

After the wallet is officially released the PoS will increase until we hit the Max of 200%
Day 1 - 30 Max PoS stays at 1%
Day 31- 60 Max Pos increases to 50%
Day 61 - 90 Max Pos increases to 100%
Day 91 - 120 Max PoS increases to 150%
Day 120+ Max PoS will be 200%

I figured this will give everyone a clear opportunity to participate and allow people do their own due diligence on the code as well.

If people do not want this, fine, but I don't want to waste much time working on the wallet when it doesn't do PoW or PoS particularly well.

So speak now or forever hold your peace.

Thanks !

P.S. flound1129 do you have the alert key as well?

1053  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] TEKcoin PoS/PoW on Cryptsy! 30 days 40% interest! on: May 14, 2014, 12:27:38 AM
Did some quick calculations concerning PoS difficulty and when it will rise.

The way the source code is written (at least how it is supposed to be) is that every time the PoS difficulty multiplies by 64 times, then the stake rate will cut in half.

The client shows that the genesis block had PoS difficulty at 0.00024414 and the current PoS diff is 0.00390625.  So right now the diff has multiplied by 16x.  So we are still a ways off. If more people being staking regularly I am guess the diff will rise. According to my calcs (which could be wrong) the threshold will be at PoS diff of 0.0156.

Any thoughts??

You can't use the starting difficulty as the starting point. It was hard forked in original PPC code.  The min diff is .00390625, so it hasn't budged, much like HBN.

i am the owner of the repo and after looking over the patch i will gladly accept it

changes shouldn't be made to the main ADT repo without at lest 2 people looking over it as it means there is less likely to be any problems but you already know that as i had mullick and someone else look over your work it is nothing personal against anyone as i even get people to look over mullicks work

I'll Q/C it as well. I can read and understand the code.

Unfortunately it is doing that all the time  Sad I have libboost 1.54...do you think it is worth to try upgrading to 1.55?

Perfect tutorial here for libboost 1.55

Thank you, superresistant. I was curious about this as well.

I have updated to libboost 1.55 (luckily in Ubuntu 14.04 is already in repo) and it seems to work better. There were few situations where hobonickelsd took 100% CPU, but not that long/often anymore.

But today it crashed again (different cause)?:

I don't see any indication of height or getting or receiving blocks in your log. Very odd..  Is your client fully up to sync with the block explorer? http://hbn.blockx.info/get/chain/HoboNickels

Was this during the init download.   Something seems off, you seem to have been caught up in an orphan loop check..

1056  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Bottlecaps v1.5.2 Just Released Checkpoint Node New Wallet Design! Please Update on: May 13, 2014, 09:54:15 PM
Hello all.

I was wondering if there is any want in this community to increase the PoS interest. It is so low 1% and degrading over time, that is more of a detriment then an advantage that this level.

I am willing to code up a fork for a few months out, plus a few other key issues. Maybe some coin control, fast start, fast stake.

What % would we want to goto? Some poplar ones.

Mint 25 .
NVC 100 start, down to 40-50ish
PHS 50, I think still at 50
HBN 100, still 100
TEK 500.
CENT 1 bigilion?

I think doing something the 250% range could be fun. It would also degrade over difficulty, like HBN/NVC/PHS/TEK, so no out of control inflation. Could also slowly ram it up, add 10% each month till we go to target.

Anyway just a thought, would need a few people to help Q/C and test.

Edit: We should also get Mullick's attention/permission. He may not want this coin played with much.

Mullick gave me permission to take over the coin, as the community we can do whatever we like with it (within reason, obviously).  I have the checkpoint key.

I would like to increase the PoS, however the coin is already at all time lows, I think we need to address the stability of the network before increasing PoS.

The current priorities should be to stabilize the network, get the wallet upgrade to the latest NVC source, if possible (Need someone to help with this, I can give you git access.), and get a block explorer up and running.  Then we can start a new thread with the new info (new github, block explorer, addnodes, etc.).

Since the CP has been running again, how is the stability? I think the more hash and the more people we get staking the more secure and stable the network becomes.

What are the key issues right now?

As far as moving this towards the newest version of NVC, maybe difficult. There are many forks since this was created. Some of which CAPs may not want.  Such as max reward for stake.

A Block explorer is needed.

Sounds cool.  This coin needs some lovin'.

Although I don't think the slow ramp up is the best idea as it is a bit of a deterrent to getting involved (ie 'I'll just wait until next week/month/year to get involved, not worth my time now') compared to high initial rate that serves to attract people right now...which is what CAP needs.

Not sure if Mullick cares at all anymore, never responds to anybodies questions here and never responds whenever I have mentioned CAP related things on Cryptsy chat.

Fair enough, I was thinking the slow ramp up just to be fair to everyone.

If you do see Mullick, please see if you can get him to at least comment, and say yes or no. I'll try the same.

Helo Sir,
I got this when open my wallet :

Can anyone help please...

This must be the first time you opened version 1.4.0.1. Please remove the directory %appdata%/HoboNickels/txleveldb. Then start up the client again. It will re-sync and remake the index from peers.

if you want want to speed up the process, see this page.   http://wiki.hobonickels.info/index.php?title=Replace_Blockchain
1060  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] TEKcoin PoS/PoW on Cryptsy! 30 days 40% interest! on: May 11, 2014, 09:30:34 PM
For example if I had a block of 1,000 TEK that aged for 35 days, I would have a stake weight of 5,000.
Thanks. This means that with 13 TEK, I will probably not stake in 30 days, but most probably much, much more, right?

Shall I understand that rich account have more chances to get richer the more TEK you have, the better the chances of getting your stake?
So the cool thing is that although a block of 13 might take longer than 30 days to stake, it still is accumulating interest while it waits.  A block of 13 will get up to a stake weight of 1170 on day 90, blocks do not gather more weight beyond day 90.  So a block of 13 will stake eventually and you shouldn't worry too much because you are always getting interest.

FYI this has the same bug as many PoS coins where the max weight should be 90 days, but is not.  The max weight is 60 days till this is fixed. Won't make much of a difference until there are many more coins out there. But does require a hard fork to fix.
