it will be nice if exchange will pay us the stake on our coins if we have them there instead of the wallets.

This could be done, but it would require a good deal of book keeping.

Additionally to gain interest those coins would need to sit on the network hot, and use up CPU power, taking away from deposits/withdraws.  There is risk to an exchange doing this, as such I would guess the majority of the coins are in cold storage, and those that are hot, are set with -reserveblance=999999999

What happens when I try to send coins to an address(for example cryptsy) but there are 0 confirms? The amount has been minused from my wallet but it didnt show in the other account? Is it possible to lose them?

Likely no. The wallet will try to resend again randomly here soon enough.   If after a few hours you still don't have any confirmations you can try to run checkwallet, or perhaps start with -rescan a final method would be to try -salvagewallet. One of these should work.

I am running off a Pi.

Sweet. I'd like to try that approach as well.

Could you give me a pointer on how to set up HoboNickels to run off a Raspberry Pi?

Enjoy!

Can you please remove Coinex from the OP please?

I struck it out for now. We'll see if they can come back at some point..

That is kind of sweet Smiley

Hey Unick while I got your attention. I put some changes on my github for the Mac. would you mind to give them a test compile and PM any problems. I tried to fix the doc issue and the button issue on the overview page.
1086  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Problems with Solomining on: May 02, 2014, 09:44:59 PM
Hi!

I started solo mining hobonickels a couple days ago, and should get a block every 36-48 hours on average with my single graphics card at the current difficulty.

I found shares with a  sufficiently high difficulty, but I didn't get a block.

Can anybody help me out? It shows my best share is 7.21 Million, which is much more than required,
but there is no submitted work item (LW). However there is 1 Remote Fail Occasion (RF) and 2 Stale shares discarded (SS). This is already the second time that this happened, I restarted the cgminer in between.

What is the reason for this? Is it just a lot of bad luck? Or it more likely a problem in my configuration? Also I should mention that I am located in Germany, wheres most nodes probably are in Northern America. The 30 sec blocks time is very short, so maybe there is too much time lost during the transmission. I'm not really an IT guy, that's why I am asking.

I solved a block however for a pool (hbn.theblocksfactory), where I mined before I started solomining.

If I could a least mine an orphan during solo mining to get that nice hammer-crossing symbol in my wallet  Angry

You wallet is locked, you can not PoS or PoW while the wallet is locked. Use the wallet->unlock, or click the lock icon.

Tranz,

How about opening up your coffer and sell us some HBNs?  I discovered HBN too late and I can't effectively compete with the damn bots on Cryptsy  Wink

Also I bought some HBNs at CoinEX at a good price, or so I thought

Can't withdraw them  Cry Cry Cry

I also beseech you rich HBN whales to do the same ... Look at the HBN rich list  Shocked Shocked Shocked

Sorry about CoinEx. The wild wild west is still and will forever be in force in cryptos. So be careful.

I have given away over 100,000 HBNs, I have also sold about as many at below market prices. Everyone of those was bought or mined directly. I got nothing from any premine, and there was no IPO.  I wasn't even mining the coin until 4 or 5 days after it was released.  So no insta mining either. Although the algo stops this pretty well anyway.

Even back in Oct when there was a bad fork and the diff was .001, I had 3mh/s at my disposable, but I only put 300k on it, because I felt terrible and I also wanted others to get coins.

I do feed the order book on Cryptys, never dump only put on the ask. Right now there are about 5k at 56k sats. Some of which are mine, I don't think they will last long.

But I am now distributing my coins to cold storage and to many VPS across the world. So there will always be a network of PoS coins out there.  Due to this I don't have much to sell privately right now.

In fact it will combine blocks automatically once they get to small!  So just let the wallet do the work, and sit back and enjoy..  Grin

Shocked for real? what is the threshold?

Assuming I am reading the code correctly, and assuming it is not bugged. The wallet will try to combine any stake input that is less then 1.6. So if you have a .25 that is up for stake, it may try to combine it with another stake of .25 or smaller, just so long as the total is under the threshold.

Now I have not seen this happen on my wallet, and I haven't put this through serious test, so it might need a bit of work. But from what I gather that is how it should work..
1089  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: HBN Investment Journal - 2% returns every ten days - 80,000+ HBN Porfolio on: May 02, 2014, 04:01:49 AM
Are we sure that the stake rate is based off of coin days?  I was under the impression that although stake weight stops building in 20 days (supposed to be 30 but needs a hard fork to fix it) that interest will still build passed 20 days.  Anyone have mature blocks to test this on?

The interest is calculated to start at 100% for 1 year.  If you keep a coin offline for 1 year and bring it online, assuming the network weight is still low, you will double your coins, once it stakes. If you hold for 2 year, same assumptions, you will only get 100%. That is the max.

This is not great for the health of the network, but it is allowable, and I don't have any intentions of changing it.

You still get more by running the wallet 24/7 and compounding. But it requires some cost, albeit not much, as I am running off a Pi.  Also running 24/7 is securing the block chain, thereby making your coins more valuable and secure.

So the best practice is to simply grab a stake, and let the wallet do the rest. It will stake and split for a long time. In fact it will combine blocks automatically once they get to small!  So just let the wallet do the work, and sit back and enjoy..  Grin

i can confirm it does show stake wieghts

Whatever bounties are out there, you can give mine to Presstab.

Let me know if you can find the original source code, so we can fix the sync issue.

The new wallet 1.4.0.0 keeps crashing. I tried redownloading the blockchain several times, and after a while the wallet crashes. Anyone any ideas?

Might need a bit more information to help pip point the problem.

But it sounds like maybe a wallet maybe corrupted ? You can try to rename your wallet.dat(or others) to noloadwallet.dat and see if the client is still crashing.

See this page for more information
https://cryptocointalk.com/topic/9590-hbn-trouble-shooting-guide-wallet-corruption/

Renaming the wallet.dat works, but how do I import the corrupted wallet? Because when importing it asks for a .txt and not for a .dat.

thnx

Well you would need to salvage it. rename it back to wallet.dat and try starting the client with the switch -salvagewallet This may fix it. Just make sure you have a good backup.

If the GUI doesn't crash right away, you could load it up and quickly do an export wallet, which will make the keys in a text, then use import wallet.

hello tranz,

is there a way to include into the wallet (around the minting information) the rate of interest we can get with the current network size, i kind of like the way you displayed the minting process as a probability but right now i am concerned about the number of new holder and if i am actually reaching 2%/10 days
or if i am under it.

well basically i am just asking if you plan on putting more minting info in the new wallet ^^

Try clicking on the green icon.

tranz,

wanted to get your opinion on Reddcoin's new innovation Proof of Stake Velocity (PoSV)

I wouldn't get too excited about it. They can't seem to provide any meaningful information in the "whitepapers" and when questioned about the basic functionality they explain like a politician.

They have been asked if their system would just encourage people to send coins back and forth between addresses they control, and the response was basically "oh no they won't need to do that, there wouldn't be a reason to" but then they say "the system rewards users who make transactions." So in other words this garbage will launch, and people will just send back and forth between their own addresses and abuse it, and the whole thing will be a clusterfuck.

Once the code is released, I'll have a look.  But if it is anything like rewarding people for sending coins, all you are going to get a bloated block chain.

The last thing HBN needs is adding more bloat to the chain. I was thinking about txcomments but then got to thinking that it adds extra bloat.

HBN is actually doing fairly well regarding block chain size.  Heading in on close to a year and just pushing 400meg size.    Also closing in on 1 million blocks.    So the size is good overall, just many small blocks.  I think this is a better problem to have then lower number of blocks, but bigger in size.

Try to play with the RPC command dumpwallet. You will visually see in a text file, all your keys and this will make more sense.  It's also a nice way to print out your keypool and physically store it in a safe place.

dumpwallet is a good way to see your keys. This is also in the GUI under File->Export Wallet

Tranz I don't quite understand why you need to specify that you want 500 keys assigned when you create a wallet. I did not do this (I didn't specify anything I just created a second wallet using buttons/menus not by typing commands. Am I going to run into a problem?

Most likely no.. Especially if are primarily staking and not much sending/receiving. You can always top up the keypool and then back it up. The larger the keypool the more keys are in you wallet, the more transactions it can do before it is necessary to back it up again.

This applies for every coin out there.

Have we pinpointed which code syncs to the correct chain with out having to use the download?

yes, you can download the google doc one and get the dlls from hbn build, i just ran the tekcoinqt and everytime it gave an error, i copied the dll from HBN install I had, I synced up without needing to download the file.

But that is already compiled one, the src code does not match, or it would sync as well. The correct source needs to be found. Or New features will be difficulty to do properly.
