Bitcoinpaperwallet.com. Print one and have fun.

If I go that route, I'd need to buy a fireproof safe/lockbox.

Paper wallets, are by far, my favorite forum of longterm cold storage.

You simply generate the address and key, and physically print them out. Etch them into a stone/steel/wood block. Write down the privkey on a notepad. Record yourself reciting the private key. You can print out the text, or the QR code (or both!). You can save it all as a .txt file, or screen shot it and save as an image file (.jpg, .png, etc) to prevent malicious programs from searching through your files to find the key. Keep digital back ups on CDs, SD cards, Hard drives, etc. Use your own encryption and post the encrypted privkey online for Google to save for eternity. Or better yet, write your encrypted privkey into the blockchain so you can always retrieve it later.

There is so many creative ideas you can do with a "paper wallet". Just because it's called a "paper wallet" doesn't mean you need to print it on paper. There is thousands of potential ways you can have a "paper wallet".

When you say "write your encrypted privkey into the blockchain" Do you mean type that in as a note?

I've read about people being able to write notes into their transactions, but I've never done it myself. How is this done?
163  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Best Cold Storage solution? on: December 04, 2013, 07:50:54 AM
Hey all, I just recently had 2.4 Bitcoin stolen from my coinlenders account, and I'm curious as to what the best solution is for cold storage?

"Best" as in most secure/easy to retrieve/safe from real world threats (fire, theft, loss)

Thanks!

I don't think it's too complicated if you put your heart into it, but neither is rooting your phone using ADB. It's just not for the average person I don't think. I can see people using Bitcoin-Qt or Electrum on their normal computer, and likely this is how 95% of the average bitcoin user will use their coins... either in a hot wallet or a local wallet, but never truly shielded like everyone keeps recommending.

I agree that it's not for the average person in terms of how technical cold storage wallets can be. However I also think most people underestimate how important cold storage wallets truly are.

Any "significant" amount of bitcoin (however you personally define significant) should be kept in cold storage.

171  Economy / Goods / Re: You buy from casascius, I pay spot price plus premium via paypal on: November 22, 2013, 08:40:26 AM
we had an agreed price..i said contact me when you are online so i can send an invoice based on current price (wanting to get paid while exchange is same as invoice)...you quit replying...why waste my time then go making more threads asking for the same thing?

Wait, hold on man, I continued to send you messages you never replied to.

I never heard anything from you so I'd assumed you decided against it.

Glitch in the PM system maybe??

Regardless, I would love to complete this transaction with you if you still want to.

Please email me at bestofbitcointalk@gmail.com

Casascius does in fact sell the coin I want as a single! Smiley

I would buy it myself If I had some bitcoin right now. I do have money in paypal (unfortunately that where most of my money comes in) however, so since Casascius ships with a tracking number, I felt that it shouldn't be too difficult to find someone willing to accept paypal.

Hey all, just wanted to share some photos of what to expect when you get your coins.

Everything was nicely packed, the coins were in their clear plastic airtight cases, each in their own small black drawstring bag, then rolled up in a bubble mailer. Also included is an envelope containing your certificates of authenticity.

All this was put securely in a small flat-rate USPS box.

Here are the photos:
