161  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer - MtGoxUSD wall movement tracker - Hardcore on: May 16, 2013, 07:11:16 PM

No I know much ain't happening, I just thought I'd attempt to derail the tangent.

these straight lines are - some kind of market making bot?

The bottom of the channel was $114 for about an hour or so today, could have been the work of a bot working on small amounts. This was shortly after the 4K BTC or so Asl wall was set up on $114 which was bought into.

Cons of living in the UK with regards to Bitcoin:

We can't spend our BTC anywhere a la Gyft (it doesn't stop me asking the biggest gift voucher websites if they plan to do this).

We don't have a Bohemian area in a big city which has adopted Bitcoin like Berlin.

Pros: we can gamble, tax-free.

The net result of which means I have more Bitcoins Smiley

Incredibly tidy support at $114.00!
165  Economy / Economics / Re: Knowledge check: If a government had only 2 functions, what would they be? on: May 16, 2013, 10:55:36 AM
First of all, there is technically a "right"answer. That is, according to a highly-knowledgeable  economist (Oxford/Cambridge). I wish I remembered his name, I REALLY do. He said he was an all-out libertarian, bordering on anarchist (he lol'd). I am also a Libertarian (maybe not as fanatic as him, but I am one) so I liked listening to him.

One thing he said has been on my mind for close to a week now. He said that we as a nation would thrive and be most free if our government only had 2 functions. The invisible hand, he said would take care of the rest.

So what do you guys think? I don't think he's crazy. Either way, post what you think those 2 functions are and later I'll reveal the answer (again, according to him).

Lets have a FUN (no computer screen drama) debate over politics and whatever else this brings up! Smiley

To protect and serve.

comboy can I make a suggestion please if others think this is a good idea?

I think the horizontal lines on the depth grid should correspond to the existing Bids and Asks and not the depth change.
167  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Where is it the most difficult to buy Bitcoins? on: May 15, 2013, 05:02:45 PM
I'll start off by backing you up on your example: UK.

I bought mine all through blockchain.info/ Sofort before that got stamped on.

Hence there's a lot of Bitcoin business on ebay.co.uk.

Anyone else who hasn't soiled their pants but reads this as "Bitcoin just got a bit harder to buy"?

There's nothing I can add: this is hilarious.

And Bitcoin in *some* form is here to stay.

The dinosaurs are watching the skies...

That's great news.

Now here's your first reply sir  Grin

Gold goes down, waiting to see if it has any effect on BTC.

If BTC's market cap was several orders of magnitude larger then yes, I'd expect so.

I don't think there's much overlap between your typical altcoin speculator and your die-hard precious metal fan.
173  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer - MtGoxUSD wall movement tracker - Hardcore on: May 15, 2013, 02:46:35 PM
I was pondering like, as you do, what the continuation of higher lows would look like and I concluded that the obvious next data point would be a bounce off $100. Hey presto, yesterday happened.

It looks a little early though thanks to the weak hands selling the news so I think we'll see a double bottom in the next couple of days. Every day we hold above $100 into May is a point for the bulls I believe:

Linear not log as usual bear in mind.
174  Other / Meta / Question to mods re. thread relevance on: May 15, 2013, 02:39:40 PM
Do historical charts relating to the economy but containing no speculation belong here or in Economy?

Specifically asking because my MtGox vs BTCe relative trade volume chart was moved in this direction.

Come to think of it this probably belongs in Meta right?

I think we could use a little fuzzy logic here Smiley
175  Economy / Speculation / Re: New ASIC mined coins "Greed Wall"? on: May 15, 2013, 02:36:55 PM
Doesn't the concept of greed and selling apply to anyone who owns coins?

Indeed. The word greed implies some sort of moral superiority. Why work in a job that pays more than minimum wage if not for greed? Why speculate in altcoins if not for greed.

Debt used for anything other than emergencies: is that not greed too?

I accept your point though, it's a game-changer for a short while but is ultimately a war of attrition based on Mh/S.

On the point of the crash: I think you are underestimating the infrastructure fail (Gox lag whether DDoS or otherwise) that compounded the fall from $230 (or $266 if you don't believe in using the more useful daily close price).
176  Economy / Speculation / Re: State your position on: May 15, 2013, 02:30:21 PM
This is a head count. Please state wether you are a bear or a bull, Wether you are a believer or just here for the money, and an explanation for your position. Please keep posts on topic and try to limit one per user. this is not a debate, the point of this thread is to get an idea of where the bit coins community's head is at, and to present a historical reference to a members position on a certain date.

Im a long term BTC bull, short term i am in LTC.

Not a flippant reply but it really depends what time of what day you ask me.

To polarise your opinion into bullish or bearish is impossible for some and foolish for others.

That said, I wouldn't be holding BTC if I wasn't mid to long-term bullish.

If I was bearish I'd be holding more fiat or other altcoins than I do.

If I was REALLY bearish I'd not have a cent on any exchange.
177  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: WTB Mining rig under 1BTC on: May 15, 2013, 01:42:42 PM
Think it's called the Block Eruptor: a search will yield plenty of posts Smiley

Its performance vs other methods is woeful though.
178  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: WTB Mining rig under 1BTC on: May 15, 2013, 01:29:13 PM
Forget it, you'd be wasting your time to be honest. Even the USB ASICs are BTC2.2 with shipping giving 300 MH/s.

You could get a used GFX card, add it into your spare PCI-E slot and earn a tiny amount by pool mining.
179  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: CNC mining pools. on: May 14, 2013, 06:28:30 PM
People, dont mine in pool.dillavouws.com is scam, i lose 15 cnc... The page goes down and when it comes up i had 0.00000 that was 12 hours ago, till now none answer me to give me my cnc.

180  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Will sell 5 china coin CNC CHN for 1 BTC valid for next 7 days please PM on: May 14, 2013, 06:10:34 PM
Hilarious thread.

I don't know what to make of CNC.

The % swings have had me watching it for a day or two. On BTCe, with 0.2% fees that makes it a VERY attractive just-for-fun trading opp for your spare coinage.
