1621  Local / Trading und Spekulation / Re: LTC / Litecoin im Kommen? on: May 29, 2013, 09:14:09 AM

Considering all athiests are amoral, I am surprised at the many times they call God immoral.

Why do you think atheists are immoral? Since they call god immoral, it would suggest that they do understand what is moral and what is immoral, even to the point that they believe some of the actions that are attributed to god or some of his commandments are immoral. Atheists are more moral than god.

This is an honest question I have had.  Where do atheists get their moral compass from?  Is it based on society around them?  Do the laws of the land dictate what is moral?  Can they change their minds if they feel like it?  Society used to call many things immoral that are now called moral so is it based on the what others say is right or wrong?  Or do they have a "conscience" that tells them what is right and wrong?  If so, where does that conscience come from?

The assumption you can only have morals if you are religions is really harsh.

Doesn't this basically translate people (also you!) only act moral because they fear punishment.

So if your god would not threaten you with punishment you would go around murdering, raping, etc.? Certainly not.

Should for the sake of your own argument the assumption not be:

To be a (good) religious person you need strong morals, rather than to have morals you need to be religious?

So where do morals come from? It's called empathy, the capacity to recognize emotions that are being experienced by another being.

And this ability is just hardwired into our brains. Without it our species would not have been able to surfieve in times long before religion. Our empathy / protective instincts even is oversensitive and basically triggered by everything that resembles a human face even the slighted, especially with characteristics of infants (Big eyes compared to the rest of the face), that's why many people like cats and dogs. You see this effect used often to manipulate our feelings, the movie Avatar is a good example.

But well, it basically comes down to this:

A human being is able to imagine the consequences of it's actions for another being, morals are the decision that no being should experience consequences that I deem unpleasant, compared to the actual value of this experience (work for example is unpleasant for many, yet necessary). Also the difference is the case, making someone else a gift, makes us feel good. That's hardwired the same way. I feel good when others feel good because of my actions.

And of course this standards are different for every human, defined by what unpleasant things they deem necessary, I for one am a vegetarian for that reason, which most people evaluate as over extreme.

In the end it comes down to this:

Morals are not obeying a law, whether it is from a government or a religion. Someone that sticks to certain morals just because any other being tells him so is not moral at all, because they just admit they they wouldn't act this way if they where not "being watched"

If you look at the post count per month the last few have seen incredible growth.. as it has been mentioned the influx of new people will cause changes.
This cycle will keep happening until BTC is mainstream.  Still have a kind of early adopter community effect going at the moment, but that is slowly wearing thin as people with less ideological interest join.

Currently the main interests of this forum are very disappointing (at least to me).

Seeing a thread like this https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=212472.0 (randomly picked, there are plenty where this is true)

getting buried immediately, not even some questions about what they actually do, while the "Coin of the day" gets to 40+ pages.

Maybe this is really slowly becoming the wrong place for actual bitcoin discussion & news  Undecided

WOW.

1625  Local / Trading und Spekulation / Re: Der Aktuelle Kursverlauf on: May 28, 2013, 06:58:42 PM

This pick and choose is something that really annoys me.
The Bible is the word of god, but only as long as what is written there is socially acceptable. As soon as it isn't anymore, it just is "took out of context", "translated wrong " or isn't meant to be took literally.

Either all of it is the word of God and has to be took literally or none of it. This picking and choosing which parts I like and choose to interpret as right is just hypocritical.
There are flaws in translations, specifically the KJV which is a bible that was translated over 400 years ago. There are parts not meant to be taken literally,

That was exactly my point. You pick and choose how things hafte be interpreted. This constantly changes (basically less and less should be taken literally) and if there is no way it can be "interpreted" OK, it's wronly translated. But stragley of the ~100 (made up number) english translation there is no right one.

much of the bible is not socially acceptable. However the truth never makes everyone happy.

Just wow.

But talking about "the truth ever makes everyone happy".

Would I be happy if there where an after live?

Would I be happy if good people get rewarded after death and bad punished?

Of course! But just that this would make me happy dosn't make it the truth.

Btw. my favorite Psalm, completely took out of context and probably wrong translated:

Quote from: Psalm 137:9
Blessed shall he be who takes your little ones and dashes them against the rock

Interestingly enough, even the huffpost has answered this recently:

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/01/25/psalm-137-7-9-understandi_n_2550586.html

It's not my fault athiests go through the bible cherry picking verses to make an argument.

Like I said I completly took it out of context. But yet even in this artikle it's arguet again how it should be interpreted.

Or it is just what is written there: A ballad of blind rage.

It's you who is cherry picking.
1627  Other / Off-topic / Re: Religious beliefs on bitcoin on: May 28, 2013, 12:20:21 PM
As for #5, if God knows everything that happened, is happening, and will happen, then everything that will happen is already predetermined, and despite the illusion of "free will," god already knows who will sin and go to hell, and who will not, even for those who aren't born yet. So why the charade? Why not just stop sinners from being born in the first place, if he knows he's just going to torture them for ever?

This was just a joke. Sorry for hijacking your thread to make one, but sometimes it's hard to resist.

Small hint in case you didn't get it:

Anyway, interesting workshop.

And nice that you accept bitcoin. Have much success.

1630  Local / Projektentwicklung / Re: Eigenentwicklung eines ASICs innerhalb Deutschlands on: May 28, 2013, 09:04:56 AM

1631  Other / Off-topic / Re: Religious beliefs on bitcoin on: May 28, 2013, 08:17:58 AM
I just wanted to point something out, as a former bible scholar... you're quoting mistranslations and making judgements on the translated word.

Specifically leviticus 20:13. a more accurate translation is:

If there is a man who lies with a male as those who lie with a woman, both of them have committed a detestable act; they shall surely be put to death. Their blood guilt is upon them.

This isn't a command for people to kill them. This is description of the result of their actions. Death, in the eternal sense... eradication of the soul. With the reasoning included. They've sinned against their bloodline by not producing children abd thus their legacy doesn't exist.

You can interpret and attempt to soften that collection of crap anyway you like but I still won't believe it. I can't rationally believe in ancient Christian mythology like the God of Abraham or the God of King James any more than I can believe in ancient Norse mythology like Thor or Greek mythology like Apollo.

I'm not trying to convince you. I'm simply pointing out that if you're going to say what it says... (and make rational judgements based on that) you should probably study it in the original language so you actually know what it says.

1633  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: DWOLLA vs Paypal vs Bitcoin on: May 27, 2013, 08:26:15 PM
"risk of loss due to user error"/reversibility

That's a 2 edged sword. I would put it as User responsibility. Meaning how much responsibility for his/her own funds lies at the end user.

Some may see this as a downside (nobody can give you your lost/stolen money back), while others see it as an advantage (I have full control over my money).

I haven't used Dwolla yet, but from my picture of it I would set PayPal with the lowest level of for the end user Dwolla in the middle and Bitcoin the highest.
1634  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: DWOLLA vs Paypal vs Bitcoin on: May 27, 2013, 08:17:02 PM
Well, if you want it "fair" add - ease of use.  Finally something where you can point Bitcoin last mainly due to the detours one has to take to get money in and out of the system. That would be solely for a payment system though, if you use it as a currency the picture is different.

Also micro payments, in which all 3 Suck, but Bitcoin sucks the least  Tongue

Let's not turn this into anther ripple discussion. By know this stuff is everywhere, there are already enough threads going on about that. Post there if you want to discuss Ripple.

It really gets annoying.

Says he has 6 posts but in his "Last Posts" link I can only see this one - where are the others?  Huh

That means, that his post have probably been deleted. Most likely by an mod, due to his threads have been moved to the trashcan.

If he would have deleted them himself, his post count would have gone down.

Getting worst or growing & expanding as crypto currency does & more newbs like me have more questions that need answering.

Exactly and that's the whole "problem".

I personally experienced this forum as very good and well educated (at least in comparison to other forums).

Due to the media buzz a crowd of new people that are completely new to Bitcoin entered the forum so the "value" of discussions here dropped significantly.*

But that's only temporary. I time this noobs will learn more and add value and more important fresh ideas to this forum.

And a inflow of fresh ideas is necessary, otherwise we would just run in circles here.

*No offense

1640  Other / Meta / Re: Bounty 1 BTC for Quoted feature on: May 27, 2013, 08:40:59 AM
Well, this would be an interesting and useful feature.

Bus as quoting basically just adds a link to a post and is not a fixed copy of ones post (you can change it).

The only important part is that I have the link to you post which is

217265.msg2282690#msg2282690 date=1369643514

so I could basically quote you by writing the entire text per hand:

Code:
[quote author=Matthew N. Wright link=topic=217265.msg2282690#msg2282690 date=1369643514]
[/quote]

I just can't imagine that such a feature is even technical possible the way quoting in SMF works unless you run a pot, that constantly scans for such links.

But than, I'm not a coder, so what do I know?
