1621  Economy / Auctions / Re: AUCTION: 3 x AMT 1.25ths 4u RackMount Miner Auction on: August 07, 2014, 12:03:41 PM
It's been 24hrs since the last message by amt_miners and no pm contact either.

What's going on? Bitpop accepted doing escrow and i am willing to pay the unexpectedly high shipping charges to shop today
1622  Economy / Auctions / Re: AUCTION: 3 x AMT 1.25ths 4u RackMount Miner Auction on: August 06, 2014, 11:23:46 AM
First those are sent feedbacks, 2, John k has been mia for a year.

Really?  That alone should prove that we have never used escrow. And now we feel stupid.

Easy misunderstanding at first glance of sent vs received reputation. The bad reputation was sent TO an imposter 'trezor' account.

I still am happy to go ahead with escrow using bit pop who has a great reputation and no reason to dissappear with a measly ~3btc.

Please see if other shipment methods may be competitive - it seems strange that shipping to Canada would cost 3x shipping to the United states does, almost a full bitcoin difference in price.

If you can provide an exact BTC value for 2.7btc plus shipping costs I can move funds to the escrow address asap. I would request that the packages be marked with the auction value or $500 each to spare some expense at the time of delivery

won the AMT miner auction with a bid for 2x 1.35BTC and amt is backing down on the terms of the listing.  will post here with results but the auction vibe is shifty

They have responded in the thread to accept that I won by auction rules and that escrow is allowable. Hopefully I can have payment made today and a miner in-hand next week.
1624  Economy / Auctions / Re: AUCTION: 3 x AMT 1.25ths 4u RackMount Miner Auction on: August 06, 2014, 09:56:17 AM
Ok,

We have to abide by the auction rules, and learn from this one. We've reviewed this and at least two need to be sent to Klondike at 1.35.

Please facilitate escrow within the next few hours so that they can get shipped out today. Also add pm your address for a shipping quote. If you're anywhere in America it's about $120 from, so add $120 x 2. This is a substantial loss on our side btw,but now we know for the next auction which we'll be posting shortly.

Thank you. Its morning here and I likely will not be able to arrange payment while at work until this evening.

Shipping would be to Toronto, Ontario, Canada
Escrow could be via CanaryInTheMine or Bitpop - I have reached out to both and await response from them. I would like the terms of escrow to allow 48hrs from delivery for me to inspect the miners and run long enough to ensure they run stable before escrow is released (Can release earlier if no problems arise)

regards,

1626  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: [ESHOP launched] Trezor: Bitcoin hardware wallet on: August 06, 2014, 01:21:17 AM

If someone finds your dollar bill laying around on the ground they can spend it. Dollar bills still work just fine. Dont give your trezor to anyone else, problem solved. If you lose it, oh well you only had 100 bucks on it or w/e is the analogue to what you might keep in your regular fiat holding wallet.

You see, here I disagree. Why would anyone buy a trezor for 120 bucks to only carry an average of 100 bucks around. Doesn't sound too practical tbh.

this is looking more to 5+ years from now. when an RFID trezor would be almost as cheap to produce as a creditcard is today.

Your wallet probably costs $25-75 but carries less than $80 in it most of the time. think of the trezor the same way - you might only carry $40 worth of BTC on it at a time, but dozens of times you can refill it with $40 over its lifespan
1627  Economy / Auctions / Re: AUCTION: 3 x AMT 1.25ths 4u RackMount Miner Auction on: August 06, 2014, 01:17:03 AM
This is a 24 Hour auction and the and will end on 8/4/2014 at 8:00pm

Buyers can by 1, 2 or all 3 miners.
Go.
Auction closes at 8pm today btw.
1 @ 1.35

Ill take the other two at 1.35.
Ok so do we have to give it out for 1.35 now? Cause that's not even an cost price. Again first auction, can we refuse because it's the price is too little?

We need at least 1.7 for these miners guys, that's our build cost.  And shipping is immediate, really. Like today.

TL;DR
I won two units at 1.35BTC based on the extended auction timeframe. OP might reneg on the auction guidelines.

I expect 2 of these units, and to pay using escrow in the next 24hrs and shipment within 24hrs of that. I have sent a PM to AMT-Miners and expect them to fulfill the requirements of operating a legitimate auction. Otherwise I will leave negative feedback and request anyone else involved in this auction do the same.

good luck but i wouldn't hold my breath

whatever happens happens. I welcome the opportunity to leave positive OR negative trust for the user as the honoring of this auction could determine how many machines they actually sell, and unsold stock will very quickly depreciate.

ps: I would not pay more than 1.6BTC for these based on spec and reputation, so OP claiming after the 'winning' bids that the price was unfair and should have been a minimum value is entirely against the rules and spirit of an auction
1628  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: [ESHOP launched] Trezor: Bitcoin hardware wallet on: August 05, 2014, 10:52:13 PM
I asked this question ages ago but i dont think anyone ever responded to it. I think its still a good question so ill ask again.

To make an analogy. If trezor is a male condom, have you guys put any thought into developing a female condom? That is to say, people who use a trezor are completely safe from having their bitcoins stolen, but what about the risk to the merchant when you plug your trezor into his system? Have you put any thought into developing a devise for merchants that would allow customers to plug their trezor into the merchants system with out any risk of a fake trezor compromising the merchant's security?

I don't think trezor is for POS terminals. Atleast that is how I understand it.

Well as it is no. That would be way to much risk to the terminals to plug god knows what into their systems. But with such a devise as was described above, they could be.

Could be implemented yes, but do you really think TREZOR will reach such an adoption that it will be neccessary?
In its current form - no.

but 5 years down the road, an RFID version would be entirely acceptable using a slightly different protocol than the in/out of USB

1631  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Spondoolies-Tech - carrier grade, data center ready mining rigs on: August 04, 2014, 03:10:27 PM

I find this argument thoughtless. Those of us who don't own our own homes are often prohibited from making these kinds of modifications.

Also if you have enough $$ worth of mining equipment to necessitate a dedicated 240v circuit, you probably should have had home ownership higher on your priority list.

Smiley This is a little pushy .. next time, if you're a miner, you should own a boat too, have 5 kids and live in a mansion, if one can find a good enough reason. Three years ago you'd find ONLY geeky guys with their GPUs/CPUs in the landscape. Now we jumped to data-center grade stuff, and I don't see the need to own a house yet just for "being a miner".

Indeed. Mining has become a toff sport now. Its by and large lost it roots, and this loss will be the eventual death of the bitcoin ecosystem as it gets swallowed up by the fiat system.

bitcoin never expected to be played with GPUs forever. the evolution to efficienct hardware and the creation of semi-centralized mining clusters was always a known eventuality and a healthy part of the growth. Its no different then when satoshi was mining 30% of all blocks at the beginning or when people had garages with 50+ GPUs running only a year or two back.

The SP30 design is ideal for this expansion, but you are right that mining profits are getting tighter recently. Before long a shift in bitcoin price will be required in order to offset the growing operation costs to produce a bitcoin
1632  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Trezor: Bitcoin hardware wallet on: August 04, 2014, 03:06:02 PM
so i have a few questions / concerns. I love the product and the signing transactions without a hot wallet loading a key, but I want to be sure its a good method for cold storage security.

1) if the trezor breaks or is stolen it can be recovered by a 12word seed. How can i secure this code so that it cannot be stolen and used to take access from a different trezor?
2) what measures are in place to detect / prevent lo-jacked trezors or malicious code/components?
3) does the trezor retain access to all its addresses and change addresses? Can I constantly reload it to the same address without compromising the coins?
4) how does the trezor generate an address - could it be replicated based on the physical design?
5) can the trezor wallet be accessed using the seed but not another trezor? What if trezor goes out of business and you cannot buy a new trezor to load with the seed?
6) I heard a single trezor can hold multiple distinct wallets under the same seed but different passwords. How could I set that up to store spending quantities seperately (and secretly) from my long-term storage address?

I want to use this as a fuctional backup for the majority of my bitcoin funds, with the seed safely stored in a few offsite files/safes and some safeguards (password?) on those. I want it to act as the payment address for my mining and not worry that it may not be accessible if something happens to the trezor or trezor support.

1) It's up to you to properly secure the paper backup. You can also memorize the seed if you have good memory but it's 24 words now by default Smiley If you choose to use the pass-phrase, the 24 words alone cannot be used to access you coins.
2) The official firmware release is signed by the developers. If someone try to put the custom firmware on your Trezor you will see the warning on the screen.
3) Addresses are generated deterministically. While using the same seed & passphrese your Trezor will always have access to the same keys. Regarding the address re-using, standard recommendations applies. It's possible, but not recommended. You will not loose your bitcoins but you may loose some privacy.
4) Way that Trezor generate the keys from master private key is described by BIP-0032. The master private key itself is generated using entropy that device can provide itself with entropy provided by your PC. The master key is then represented by the 24 words from dictionary defined in BIP-0039
5) You can use any compatible software wallet. All you need to do is enter your seed and pass-phrase. Currently there is only Wallet32 for android, but support for Electrum, Multibit and Armory is coming.
6) If you already initialized your Trezor with a passphrase, just enter a different one in the "log-in" process. Depending on what pass-phrase you enter, you will get access to different wallets. But you can also have multiple accounts under one passphrase (although all of the accounts corresponding to specific pass-phrase are visible so it's only good for separating the funds instead of hiding them)

well i bought one - guess ill have to see it when it arrives.

I mostly want it to have two passwords - one tied to a fairly untouched wallet that would be constantly mined to by my mining hardware, and occasionally used to pay from to order new equipment. The other would be a daily-driver, with access to a smaller wallet used every few days for making online purchases securely.

I want to be sure that both seperate wallets operate correcgtly and that any deposits i send to the 'original address' for either will be available to the trezor to use and not fragmented uselessly across the change addresses

1636  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Biostar BTC-24GH Bitcoin Miner Review on: August 03, 2014, 06:08:36 PM
I agree the posted mail is most likely a scam. But the OP looks genuine, and these boards actually do exist (seen on other hardware review sites).
Not sure about user 'Biostar'. What makes you assume that the scammy mails were originated by him?

the user Biostar sent PMs to me and dropt asking if we would be interested in testing/reveiwing dev batch units, and included a list of specs and claims of the upcoming device.

I asked for proof that they are with Biostar, and have not received any yet. I was offhandedly asked if id be alright paying the shipping for free units (no price given).
Dropt reports very similar experience, albeit complemented by a fake email pretending to be from biostar but actually an email anonymising service. IIRC he was quoted an actual shipping price.

I suspect Biostar is indeed at work on a second generation board - the first one reviews well and is inline with other 110nm efficiency. A drop to 28nm and some redesigns for modularity would allow Biostar to make a good gen.2 in theory.

however, the username Biostar appears to be a scammer, looking for people who might pay shipping costs for a review unit. tread carefully
1637  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Spondoolies-Tech - carrier grade, data center ready mining rigs on: August 03, 2014, 12:38:27 PM
Speaking for myself:

Now I live in europe where 240v is standard, but apparently even in the US/Canada you do actually have 220v just split in two parts and its a matter of getting a little y-cable and you can do it in a home also.  So buy the cable already, sure it cant cost more than $5 on ebay.

Europe has 220v single phase, usa has 240v split phase.  Not a simple cable to have 240v outlet in usa.  Minimum of a new breaker. Usually requires new breaker and new wire to new outlet.

usually the US/CANADA is wired with a Hot 120V, neutral (0V return), and Ground (0V safety). Changing the neutral wire for a select outlet to run on the secondary phase of 120V will give you 240V at the outlet and work with a 'typical' PC power cord.

however, running 240V in a 120V socket is against code, so it should be switched out to a 240V-speced outlet.
1638  Other / Archival / Re: Pictures of your mining rigs! on: August 03, 2014, 12:29:46 PM
Why on Earth would you think they would use PDUs? they are limiting in a high power usage environment plus the cost is horrific compared to Rack mounted Switchboards.

Maybe because it is safe? Maybe because it is more convenient? Maybe because every decent data-center uses PDUs?

Anyway, it is your farm, your gear, your power:)

My opinion is still the same, one lame and unprofessional setup. Oh, thanks for mentioning, also a cheap one. So lame, cheap and unprofessional.

I completely agree that PDUs are safe and convenient, but are costly.

And the simple fact is mining operations need to keep setup costs low.

Outfitting 40-60 racks (from the looks of the photo they roughly that many) - (Parts only)

2k For 2 PDUs
$220 for MCBs

Totals

PDUs - 80k-120k
MCBs - $8800-$13200

thats alot of spare miners.

you can get PDUs for less than $1000 - with the right APC rep you can get a 30A unmetered L6-30 strip for about $300 each.

that said, i still like the breaker-board approach. each device can have an individual breaker and you dont need as many plugs and unnecessary wire runs.
1639  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Trezor: Bitcoin hardware wallet on: August 02, 2014, 05:14:00 PM
quick question:

I currently use a set of 3 USB drives with encrypted wallet copies as my off-site backup. With a trezor, what replication methods are there since I would use the device for 10+ year holding of a wallet? I understand there is a recovery seed - does this mean that if that seed is used i can program a secondary identical trezor to the same wallet?

what protection do i have for that recovery seed being stolen or lost - Could someone steal it and program a trezor themselves to access and steal my wallet contents remotely?

Hi, are you sure ?
I see the same cost Sad

Forgot to update shipping cost for 1-2 miner. It's now updated.
And also applied to checkout system of our website Smiley.

your site prices have not changed - any plans to drop prices to compete with bitmain?

Only shipping cost updated. No pricing drop notice yet.
I look forwards to any price changes - Bitmain is selling for $0.91/GHs right now and draws 30% less power.    $0.80/GHs would be a good price for the AMV1
