1641  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Best Altcoin to invest in for 2017 and WHY !!! on: January 03, 2017, 01:27:45 PM
The enormous rise in bitcoin price has affected  the altcoins to a great extent. We could see the price decrease in almost all altcoins over the last two months. However, monero can be trusted and people can invest in it with hope based on its previous performances. My next choice is |Ethereum classic. Zcash has not yet performed as it was expected.

I think everyone expected Zcash to crash after the initial super bubble... we were looking at 3000+ BTC per Zcash at some point. The supply release curve is absolutely retarded on this coin, which is what created those initial prices. The fact that you must trust the devs destroying the masterkey in some fancy reunion is the nail in the coffin for this thing. There is isn't much left in the anonymous niche other than Monero, and im yet to see how Monero pretends to scale anywhere notable.
1642  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Ethereum is the future of crypto, bitcoin is not. on: January 03, 2017, 01:23:30 PM
Ethereum cannot replace bitcoin any way. You can see the comparison between the progress of bitcoin and bitcoin in recent years. Ethereum has lost its trust and thats why ethereum classic was launched. Ethereum still  has not retained its lost trust. Ethereum will not be the future of crypto currencies.

Ethereum is not even competition for Bitcoin, they are different things. Ethereum will never be a token that has high value because of its distribution and inflationary nature, it's never going to be a safe haven because of how Vitalik can decide to hard for it an any given time when a smart contract fucks up (DAO etc). It's too complex to ever compete against Bitcoin, and Bticoin can reach that complexity throught sidechains anyway.
1643  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Happy 8th Birthday Bitcoin on: January 03, 2017, 01:07:46 PM
8 Years are still infancy compared to other emerging technologies, so we have done a excellent job compared to other technologies that has been around for years. We have gone to the top performing currency or should I rather say commodity for the last couple of years and a market cap bigger than Twitter. It might be a bit early, but I think the Tween years will be our best years. ^smile^

The good news is most people think it's too late to buy bitcoin now, which means we are pioneers. Once FOMO kicks in and it goes to 10k+, the people that say 1k is too late will be hating themselves for life at the realization of how they missed the boat twice, from 0 to 1k then from 1k to 10k, but these people can never learn, they are the ones that miss on all the new exciting investments.
1644  Economy / Economics / Re: Guy loses 240-600 BTC trying to short on: January 02, 2017, 04:57:24 PM
Why would anyone want to short when it is obvious that it is going to up from the beginning of the year? Roll Eyes
That is a no brainer because that's what it does every year then it goes down in February or mid-month here after.
Come on now, some people especially when trading volume so high should use their brains. Roll Eyes

Shorters will never learn... they are money addicts, pretty much just like gamblers, they can never stop and always want more. So they make money on the way up by buying cheaper, and instead of enjoying it, they automatically start getting into shorter mentality and expect a correction, and this correction not always happens. Bitcoin is going higher and all the 1000 dollar shorters are becoming broke right now.
1645  Economy / Economics / Re: What would happen if Bitcoin became a legal currency? on: January 02, 2017, 03:49:41 PM
If bitcoin become a legal currency the price of bitcoins would increase a lot and the price of commodities would decrease a lot .and there would not be any black money at all .it would be eradicated .

I agree with your opinion of bitcoin appreciating in price if it is adopted as a legal currency. But I don't think it would eradicate black money completely from the economy. And it is not easy to make bitcoin a legal currency.

Once governments remove cash, and I predict this is going to happen faster than most people are predicting (look at Sweden to have a look in the future...) the entire black market economy is going to be running under bitcoin, since bitcoin is the only realistic alternative. Everyone will start working for bitcoin, and getting paid in bitcoin, and this is how people will completely circumvent the tyrannical governmental control we are heading towards.
1646  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Reminder to not use brainwallets on: January 02, 2017, 02:48:48 PM
What is a brain wallet ? These are the wallets that are secured by a passphrase like Multibit HD, or is it something else, and I'm wrong ?

Quote
A brainwallet refers to the concept of storing Bitcoins in one's own mind by memorizing a mnemonic recovery seed. If the mnemonic is not recorded anywhere, the Bitcoins can be thought of as being held only in the mind of the owner. If a brainwallet is forgotten or the person dies or is permanently incapacitated, the Bitcoins are lost forever. Using techniques like memory pegging allow them to be memorized and recalled easily.

To create a brainwallet, use Bitcoin wallet software to generate a mnemonic seed and then memorize it. Such seeds are generated by wallets like Electrum, Armory and Mycelium.

Here you have it. I think the thing is, you can never trust that your seed is not going to be hacked. You can trust that your wallet.dat is going to stay safe if you keep them in safe places and encrypted, you can trust your paper wallets will not move from your closet and so on... but you can bet on brainwallets in the long term.
1647  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Reminder to not use brainwallets on: January 02, 2017, 02:39:40 PM
Now that there are a lot of newbies asking how to store their bitcoins, it is often remembered how it's a terrible idea to hold bitcoins on exchanges and online wallets like blockchain.info, but it is often forgotten how bad of an idea is to go the brainwallet route. Even gmaxwell has remembered people to not use them... it is just not a trusted way to store coins specially longterm. Maybe if you want to cross borders and temporarily hold coins "in the void", but forget to hold your main stack in a brainwallet.
1648  Economy / Speculation / Re: Why I want the BTC ATH $1226 breached and become the floor. To Kill FUD dead. :) on: January 02, 2017, 01:48:38 PM
I've had a dream the last couple of years...it seemed never to happen...and was slow coming...but it is damn close now imho.

   (1) I wanted in the mythical 'someday' to have Bitcoin go over that All Time High of $1226 mt.gox. (correct me if that is incorrect).

   (2) I then wanted that ATH to become the new floor. (Never to be broken). And putter around that figure or above from then on.

U were patient man. Waited couple years and almost get what u want.
Wait couple more years and this two points will become reality 100%. This ATH to become floor needs around 7-10 years by me. So a little more waiting time but you are good at it already, you will make it there Smiley

It will not take that much time. Soon the psychology will reverse and people will start precieving anything under $1000 as a buy, we just need a period of a couple of months above $1000 to make this statement. Everytime we go under $1000, it will be bought back quick by long term holders that just keep buying every dip. People will try to short and lose their shit as it never goes below that. We are aiming towards 3xxx+ this year.
1649  Economy / Speculation / Re: 1000+ is anytime now on: January 01, 2017, 11:29:25 PM
Boom, right on time, 1th of January 2017, 1000 dollars across all the exchanges. We've hit 1005 in Bitstamp. I think the all time high is on sight and we are going to destroy it very soon. I can't understand how people are exposing their wealth by trying to short. This bull market is going to last for months until a major correction happens. It's not worth it getting burned along the way.
1650  Economy / Speculation / Re: $1000 on BFX, GDAX, BitStamp, OKCoin, Bitbay on: January 01, 2017, 11:13:41 PM
If it can hold above $1000, I predict a run toward to ATH.

I would prefer to see some consolidation here, but I'll trade the market as it is (not selling yet).

It didn't took too much time from when I said we were shooting up to the sky after we destroyed the 750ish resistance a couple of days ago... what a nice way to start the year. Im looking forward to the last ATH. Comming soon, at this rate I think we can see it in a matter of weeks, if not days. Shorts will keep getting burned, it aint no stopping for this rocket.
1651  Economy / Economics / Re: If Bitcoin had a stable price, would it still be as popular? on: January 01, 2017, 10:28:38 PM
Of course it would not be so popular and it would be never in the news world wide.

This is the exciting by bitcoin, how high the price will be going in the next years.

It would be too boring, because the only possible way that the price was stable, is if the price was fixed, in other terms, it would need a centralized party to control the supply, demand, coin release etc... which is what fiat is. The volatility is bitcoin is a result of the freedom it conveys. A side effect that im willing to deal with.
1652  Economy / Services / Re: ♠ BETCOIN.AG ♠ Signature Campaign - High Pay - Monthly Payments - Bonuses ♠ on: January 01, 2017, 10:21:42 PM
Hi, I would like to know why I only got paid 0.123 BTC when I counted 146 posts in stage 14  Huh
So what amount are you expecting, the campaign reduces its maximum posts on the stage 14 as what OP mentioned on his lasts posts and as what he mentioned also here https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1571148.msg17347855#msg17347855 for the maximum payout of each rank including the 0.02 btc for the avatar. Hope it clarifies you.

Oh well I didnt see that. Terms shouldn't be changed in the middle of an ongoing stage, should have waited for stage 14 imo.. also should have announced it in the #1 post with big red letters. At least I won the 25 casino bonus Tongue

I don't understand why they cut it so much tho. According to my calculations now a campaing like bitmixer is paying more (0.035 per week, 0.035x4=0.14 per month aprox)

1654  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Is blockchain governance really worth it? on: December 28, 2016, 02:04:54 AM
I wouldn't mind what the government wants to do with blockchain technology as long as we have bitcoin as the real, open world blockchain.

It would be cool if the government used a sidechain to keep track of id's, medical records, voting etc, at least it would be backed up by bitcoin's blockchain.

Let's just hope we can have segwit soon then launch LN in full force.
1655  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: How can XMR be more private than BTC if XMR will have an huge blockchain? on: December 28, 2016, 01:55:46 AM
An interesting Monero criticism brought up a few times before over the years.

Lets say BTC has been out for 8 years at 72 gigs.
Then lets say Monero has 2 years at 8 gigs.
Lets multiply Monero.. Same time period would then be 32 gigs roughly.

So what is the difference ? ADOPTION  Cheesy
Monero has none and Bitcoin has LOTS.

So imagine the user base as equal..

And that is the underlying point here people are playing games about.
If the Monero guys hope to achieve BTC levels of adoption and far greater then ?
THAT is when there is an issue.
It's about creating something with known problems from the start as mentioned in the quote here earlier.

I think it's moot point though because Monero is not going anywhere.
It peaked and is destined to toil and wallow in obscurity forever.

I'm not sure how you can say that since Monero's use is up, as well as its price. And with the release of the GUI, use should increase even more.

But no one is addressing the underlying issues. Again, its cool if usage goes up, but how is the problem of node centralization going to be solved if the blocksize adjust dynamically? it's obvious the problem can become serious in the future if it catches up and starts getting used in bigger volumes.
1656  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Decentralized Exchanges: Why do they lack liquidity? on: December 28, 2016, 01:44:15 AM
As some have pointed, in order to attract volume, you need to please the needs of day traders. No exchange is ever going to be big without day traders. Without fast speed movements all you get is a marketplace.

Apparently we may find a solution with the lightning network. We may be able to figure a way out to get a decentralized high velocity exchange. Exciting things in the coming years for bitcoin. Let's just hope we can get segwit as soon as possible.
1657  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Roger Ver wants faster block times, Segwit & LightingNetwork on: December 28, 2016, 12:28:58 AM
Roger Ver is turning to a joker, wants a faster block times and Bigger block size, Does he know the time man has been fantasizing about living in the Mars, he needs to understand that in life you cant' always get your wish and also I don't think he understands how to code or any technical side of Bitcoin

Roger Ver is so far from understanding the technical details of how a decentralized network like bitcoin works that he just should stay quiet about it and get another passtime. He just doesn't stop saying stupid shit. I mean how someone that is involved so much in bitcoin doesn't already know that in order to raise the blocksize we first need to adopt segwit to do it properly? then we would have LN working properly + a blocksize increase down the lane (all core devs want to increase the blocksize except one)
1658  Economy / Speculation / Re: 778 resistance broken, 779 hit, time to fly!! on: December 27, 2016, 07:03:59 PM
Well guys look at the graphs right now, it's moving, we just pushed the 935$ mark up to 936.42$ after that dip, looks like it's about to keep pushing. Interesting night tonight, will grab some popcorn and look at the rollercoaster, it seems like we may be sitting in 1000$ faster than most people think, grab your seatbelts, the last days of the year will be fun.
1659  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Litecoin is officially dead on: December 27, 2016, 06:40:46 PM
Its not dead yet because there are still supporters of litecoin. I saw on a thread here that the litecoin community are planning to attack bitcoin network. I dont what it means but if they succeed from it, maybe it will be a game changer for them. Altcoins now are struggling right now. Maybe if bitcoin fails. Its their chance to pump.

Bitcoin is the real deal, if Bitcoin fails crypto as a concept fails enterily. The good news is of course, Bitcoin will not fail, the devs are too solid, the software is just too strong, the community is dedicated even if there are paid shills on /r/btc trying to attack it... it always comes out stronger after every attrack. The idiots blocking segwit are just another test for bitcoin. Failure is not an option, bitcoin will shine.

Of course this does not mean Litecoin can't be a nice complementary coin that pumps along with BTC. They are enabling segwit soon so they should be supported because of that alone.
1660  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [Survey] What would it take ? on: December 27, 2016, 06:05:01 PM
Bitcoin has no realistic competition at all. If you look at the evolution of the BTC dominance over altcoins metric, you will see that the average is always a strong 80%, you can use coinmarketcap to see it, click on "BTC dominance" at the top right side of the page.

Thing is, no other coin comes close in development, and of course in network effect which is like 50% of the strenght of a currency or an asset, and that is going to take a ton of luck for someone to strike with some idea that makes bitcoin irrelevant. I don't see it happening. A lot of people talking shit, but no one backing it up. Bitcoin remains king.
