16607  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin Project will be making a major announcement in September on: September 22, 2012, 02:14:28 AM
Did they specify september 2012?

 Roll Eyes

The way the English language tends to work is if someone says something like "In September" and they say that in August, or earlier, then it is assumed they mean the September coming up, not the one next year or at some other point in time in the future.  Only if they mean some other September other than the one immediately coming up would they need to be more specific.   Unless Gavin is playing childish word games, like Matthew did to get out of his bet...  And I don't think he is, do you?

And if you have read Gavin's words in this thread and elsewhere you should see that he regrets saying what he did and having it getting blown out of proportion like this... so settle down ffs and move on.   Cheesy   There isn't going to be some earth shaking revelation coming in the near future in regard to Bitcoin.

I'm sure Gavin and the team is working on releasing some new key features to their client.

Good software takes time

That's the announcement ... Tongue

edit: Bitcoin version 0.7.0 ... running out of beta numbers  1.0.0 is coming out soon Cheesy
16608  Economy / Speculation / Re: I expect Bitcoin to hit way over $100 pretty soon and not because of Bitcoins... on: September 22, 2012, 12:33:46 AM
what does this mean for the CAD/BTC exchange rate? or anything other then USD  to BTC exchange rate?

no change?
16609  Other / Politics & Society / Re: The fun is over! Romney releases 2011 tax records... on: September 22, 2012, 12:04:19 AM
what was the date set, for the tax returns to be released, if the ransom was not met?
16610  Economy / Speculation / Re: OK I bought 1,000,000 Bitcoins... now what? on: September 21, 2012, 11:49:36 PM
say the millionaires buy up all the bitcoins they wanted.

Maybe that cost $50 million to do, depending on how quickly these one million BTC were bought.  Which puts the BTC/USD exchange rate near $75, let's say.

and then stop buying and simply hold!

So in the next 24 hours, 7,200 BTC of new supply arrives.  That is worth $540,000.   Presumably, miners absolutely thrilled with their newfound wealth will take out every bid that they can find.   And the price will start to drop.  Which will cause others to realize it isn't going up any more, and they sell.  And with no buyers ... the snowball back down turns into an avalanche.

would this sudden lack of demand crash the price?

Yup.

would the lack of supply cause the price to rise?

When the millionaires were buying.  Yup.

So then what do these millionaires do?   Well, what was the reason for buying the BTCs ... just to have them as a reserve in case bitcoins future goes well?  They sit on them then.       If instead they bought them as an investment, then they do what Intel does for its chips (invests in startups that do lots of computing requiring lots of CPUs), or does what Google does for its ads (invests in startups that generate new search and ad revenues), or what the financial industry does (pays K Street lobbyists to make it accepted as a parallel currency).  [They'ld probably have a lot more than $50M on the line though to even consider doing that.]

Agreed 100%

hopefully these millionaires investing now realize that its in their best interest to invest in the right start-ups and maybe spend some of their bitcoins to simulate the economy

somehow i feel that just a little can go a long way in the bitcoin world.
16611  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is there a larger known networked computing project? on: September 21, 2012, 11:16:56 PM
I kinda feel sorry for all the spent GPU's out there forced to calculate a problem to which the solution is worthless. it would be cool if the network was used to calculate something like the next prime number...

 Roll Eyes

the MtGox live chart is in Euros
as far as i can tell mtgox plays with the walls for markets other then USD, but they use the USD walls as a starting point.  Huh this makes very little sense to me can anyone explain this?

I'm pretty sure MTGoxEUR doesn't actually have more liquidity then their USD market....  Huh

16615  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: blowin' yer mind right now on: September 21, 2012, 10:08:15 PM
or bitpay owners represent/are wealthy investors who want to aquire bitcoins without moving the market.

bitpay went on this forum and said  "look at the ask walls, that's us trying to sell off the coins from BLF, get it while its hot!"

or something to that effect.

I really don't think bitpay holds on to the bitcoins they get.

maybe a little...

If you somehow think this is not true, ummmm, according to MTGoxLive, $1.2 mil USD is exactly 1 shit ton of money Tongue

the past 2 weeks volume was about 3 million each week.
also their was 1 day of trading that generated 3 million of volume

1.2 mil is alot, but it cant cause a major crash, unless the seller is crazy and sells it all in 20 mins.

I bet bitpay was able to make a nice profit selling their coins.
