Cabinet with Antminer S1's, 2 KNC's, a few Nano Fury 2's and a new Antminer S2.

Rear of Cabinet.

So crowded.
Is that a laptop next to the knc?
Sure looks like it. Maybe for easy remote access.

[snip]    it's becoming unpalatable spending BTC to acquire mining equipment :|

^^ that is very true and the other payment option is wire which by itself is a pain and a lot of hassle.
Just convert Fiat directly into BTC and you can calculate like a wire payment.... which is faster and cheaper...
1683  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Spondoolies-Tech launches a new line of ASIC miners - Best W/GH/s ratio on: April 21, 2014, 06:34:11 AM
Again, the main source of noise in sp10s is the high cfm 40mm fans.
The PSU fan isnīt that annoying, furthermore this is only 1 fan, and spondoolies has confirmed that it will be slowed by firmware once programmed by them, as it has massive margins for +35°C DCs.

Ofcourse i wont advise anyone to put these into a very sound sensitive environment.

There is always a slower firmware setting available if you are really annoyed by the sound.

There are going to be a lot of embarrassed punters around here next month when KNC starts shipping a 6TH Neptune.

LOL. In your dreams.

First of all, i guess earliest is June.
With 10/12k you can get 4th delivered NOW or atleast early May (spondoolies sp10).

My prediction for hashrate on the final KnC Neptune will not exceed 4,5th by much, and plan B only seems to cover 3Th.

My prediction for power consumption is no better than 0,7W/GH/s. (As stated by them, 30% better efficiency, 1,2W/GH/s *0,7 --> only 0,84W/GH/s)

Dont forget to add 300-450$ for PSUs and along the same 300$ for shipping cost, giving you ~10,7/12,7k cost.
Even for 4,5 TH that is only 2,377$/GH, and that is assuming this +50% performance increase, which nobody guarantees in any way.

Again you can get ~2,4$/GH NOW/within 2 weeks.

Spondoolies sp30 group buy even gives you 10,8TH for 9k, delivered in August, with better power efficiency, without hoping for KnCīs mercy.

They even have special payment conditions for customers awaiting KnC refunds.

By the way, hasnīt KnC recently announced PSU requirements? Something along the line of 2,4kw?
Even with 0,7w/GH/s that is only 3,428TH and they admitted to having safety margins in the PSU announcement, so it should be less.
1685  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: April 21, 2014, 06:06:53 AM
Knc have now real competition on scrypt market...
asiabtc offers 60mh machines.shipping at latest 21.may, when will knc deliver...?
if i read corect, knc can impossible deliver before mid june, most likely later.

May 21 is the earliest I've heard.  If a lot of hashpower goes online before KNC delivers, the Titan will be worthless.

Yep, that's why they're not refundable

As in one of my earlier posts, in most European countries, including Sweden, consumer protection law gives you the right to reverse the purchase within 14 days.
These 14days begin only from the moment you are informed by the company of this right, so if they never inform you, you can always request a refund.

Consumer protection law is much tighter and better enforced in Europe than in most countries.
1686  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Spondoolies-Tech launches a new line of ASIC miners - Best W/GH/s ratio on: April 21, 2014, 05:54:15 AM
Why donīt you just install ac in your garage and put the units there,
that should take care of most of the sound problems.

even better, install it in a relative's garage.  Cheesy what noise? can't hear a thing.

Best way of getting back at your mother-in-law  Wink

.. but seriously, most of your noise concerns should be gone when putting it in an adjacent buidling or even a free standing garage.
1687  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Spondoolies-Tech launches a new line of ASIC miners - Best W/GH/s ratio on: April 21, 2014, 05:41:45 AM
I mostly meant it as a reply to the guy trying to figure out how to make them quieter in a home environment.  Mod the case and use bigger fans.

Bigger fans have nothing to do with it. I believe it was confirmed that the psu is what makes them so noisy.

Yeah, right...What about standard 80mm fans with higher air-flow @ lower RPM...2U PSU with 80mm too...

Fixes are usually to correct something...which is not right to begin with...usually called "mistakes"... Wink

The main noise is not from the psu, it is from the high cfm 40mm fans, and while the noise level is high, the main problem in a home environment is that the sound is very whiny (high pitch).
I can only speculate that the noise will be a lower pitch sound with the sp30s, as they use 80mm fans.

Why donīt you just install ac in your garage and put the units there,
that should take care of most of the sound problems.

I guess some custom enclosure would also be a solution but you should take care of high enough airflow, as the risk of heat-choking your units in a smaller space is obviously higher.
There are also some directly cooled, closed racks available for sale with 10kw+ cooling per rack already installed. Close the rack door and some noise is already gone.
1688  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Spondoolies-Tech launches a new line of ASIC miners - Best W/GH/s ratio on: April 21, 2014, 05:35:05 AM
I guess my opinion on this is unpopular, but i for my part think, a small unit size is excellent for any kind of datacenter deployment.

With the 1,25u / 2u for the sp30 respectively it is your choice which datacenter to use.

Got a standard datacenter in mind? Just use only 8 servers per rack.
If you have only a few sp10, most smaller datacenters can offer cheap colocation in shared cabinets by just putting them in racks that are not yet maxed out.

Mine is currently in a very small, low quality datacenter, designed for ~10kw racks however, i only pay for 1,25u + power, so itīs a fair deal for everyone.
Even though my intake temp. is 24-25°C i am still constantly over 1,4th, so nothing to fear there.

Enter deployment in bigger datacenters and you can really get good hosting quotes per kwh for bigger deployments.

I believe i read somewhere that spondoolies will be offering longer term hosting in different locations come summer, passing the bulk discounts on to us.

Keep in mind that while these are marketed to standard consumers, they where designed for datacenter deployment.

I mean before you go to exorbitant amounts of trouble building your own custom datacenter in your basement, run the numbers and datacenter deployment might come cheaper.
While i do understand the fuzzy feeling you get when looking at your units hashing away, you can still go visit them in most datacenters if you really feel the urge to.

Also if you do something wrong, the risk of accidentally burning your house down because you decided to run several 240V power lines yourself isnīt there.
Plus if you live in an environment with frequent brown/blackouts, no such trouble in DCs.
1689  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: [GROUP BUY WORLDWIDE]1TH Bitmine - Escrow accepted 2300 USD Shipping next day on: April 20, 2014, 06:45:54 PM
Again, if you want some protection, you can pay via Escrow with OgNasty.

If i were to sell Miners, i wouldnīt use PayPal either.
The fees are too high and they hold your money hostage for nearly two months.
If youīre a small to medium sized business, you need that money to ramp up production and purchase parts and pay your workers.

It is just too much of a wildcard.
1690  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: April 20, 2014, 05:25:53 PM
While the price for the upgrade board seems attractive and fair, keep in mind that you still need to buy the heatsink and fan, pay for shipping and the PSU on top of that.
1691  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: [Special Group Buy - Spondoolies-Tech SP30 pre-order] ***EASTER WEEK SALE*** on: April 20, 2014, 04:50:43 PM

If they donīt deliver a product then you will be entitled your money back, fraud protection law covers you there.
The most naïve person on the planet.  What are you going to do to enforce these laws?  Are you going to travel to Gaza and hire a lawyer who will take these guys into court?

Hahahahha!

Ask the customers of Butterfly labs about your fraud protection law.  They'll be able to give you some pointers about relying upon such things.
While i personally am not the institution enforcing laws in any country, your condecending argument that basically states Israel is at the end of the world is not called for.

As every civilized state it has certain laws and individuals, aswell as companies have to abide by them.

This is not some "company" somebody has set up in their back yard doing garage sales of bitcoin "miners".
They are funded by two Israeli venture capital firms and to this day conduct business in a professional and legal manner.

If you have such high doubts then simply not place an order with them.
All i can say is that the sp10 is the best miner design i have ever seen and it was delivered on time and on-spec, even overperforming.
1692  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Spondoolies-Tech launches a new line of ASIC miners - Best W/GH/s ratio on: April 20, 2014, 04:01:36 PM
Timmah,

Appreciate that review/comment...

I too have felt the 1.25u is a mis-step in design.  4u would have been much better.

 - Not many DC's can handle > 12kW per rack
 - 120mm vs 40mm fans (improved cooling and lower noise)
 - Potential for ATX PSUs (easier for user replacement)

I was not aware that the heat issues were as severe as noted.  I planned to not have more than 8 per rack as well (<12kW).

- The DCīs with really competetive electricity can also handle a good power density. With this you have the choice of a high density data center or just using only some of your rack in a low density environment
(also, smaller DCs might be able to give you an attractive rate by only charging you for one server and power use, and put the unit into a shared rack that isnīt maxed out yet)

- The whiny, high pitch sound of 40mm fans will be replaced by a different sound in the sp30 (80mm fans)
Using a bigger case makes it more difficult to move the air through the heatsinks, much of it would flow around it. With a small case you force nearly all air through the heatsink, making for efficient cooling.

- Many times, used replacement server PSUs can be picked up cheaply if one of yours dies, however this should be covered by the initial warranty. PSUs are typically designed to last for ~5 years

There are always both negative and positive points about design and implementation choices.
You should especially check before setting this unit up adjacent to your bedroom, but the noise level is mentioned in the unit stats.

Yes, eye candy is always nice.
What is the electricity rate at your home if i may ask?
1694  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Spondoolies-Tech launches a new line of ASIC miners - Best W/GH/s ratio on: April 20, 2014, 01:56:18 PM
You could always buy a portable AC unit with the cool air directed into the hardware.

These have served me well -- downside is they pull about 1300W at the wall.

The power needed to cool a certain unit is typically 1/3 of the unitsīpower.
Therefore, an AC that draws 1,3kw should easily be able to cool 2 sp10s or 1 sp30.
You can also try directing the cool air flow by placing the units very near the AC or by creating some kind of funnel (warning, this can be a safety hazard)

I forgot wether Edgard was asking about sp10 or sp30, but for the sake of thermal argument, 2sp10 shall now equal 1 sp30.
1695  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Announcement: Bitmain launches AntMiner solution, 0.68 J/GH on chip on: April 20, 2014, 01:46:45 PM
Can this PSU run 2 non clocked Ants?

Probably, but it will be a tight fit.

Just try it and check the temperature of the wires after a few hours.
If for some reason your ants would be sucking way more power, the PSU will simply trip its brakers and you can restart it.

Time to move forward: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=575499.0

I'm still waiting for 2 refunds from KnC...

Guys, lets go all together to spoondoolies, they look serious and accurate.

I will take it.

Fuck knc shit. They used our money.

Dont forget, you can get 2,8 TH sp10s delivered in early May for 7200$....
Thats nearly the hashrate of your Neptune right there, plus some cash to go shopping, and no more waiting until June.

Or get some A1 clones for a good price today. Either way, you can have your almost 3TH(+) today for the price KnC took,
even more if you were unlucky and paid 12k for the first regular batch.

Plus you wonīt have to go and buy your own PSUs amounting to another 300$-450$ savings.
1697  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: April 20, 2014, 01:26:05 PM
"Neptune is our first 20nm product. This order is for the Third batch which will leave about one month after the Second batch"

Does that mean, if the second batch for some reason gets delivered (delivered as in 20nm hardware in hand, not some sort of compensation) in Q3,

the batch which is now for sale (!without any kind of refund option) could be delivered as late as Q4?

I mean the description of the delivery date is so wide-open to ANY interpretation.....
And why are these units priced at only 60% of the batch before? Surely only one month delay from Q2 doesnīt explain that....

Edit: "However, if you
buy something ... online or from a door-to-door salesperson, you have 14 days’ right to cancel
when shopping within Sweden. The Swedish
Distance and Door-to-Door Sales Act includes the requirement that the seller gives you
clear information on how you can cancel your purchase.
"

In many European countries these 14 days right to cancellation is extended until the vendor informs you of this right.
Still, if for some reason you bought into the new Neptune batch, this should give you the right to get your money back within 14 days, if you choose to want to.

Isnīt havelock holding ASICMINER shares?
1699  Economy / Securities / Re: [HAVELOCK] PETAMINE 700 TH/s or 8.68 GH/s per share on: April 20, 2014, 12:55:00 PM
Granted, it is not uncommon to have NDAīs for certain deals that are not meant for everyone to know.

However in this case, it would be pretty hard to enforce....
Oh due to some unforeseen circumstance the mine will now be "insert number of increased TH/s here" initially...

You get the point, everyone would know what happened even if nobody admits it.

Edit: Wildly speculative numbers removed
1700  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Spondoolies-Tech launches a new line of ASIC miners - Best W/GH/s ratio on: April 20, 2014, 12:33:52 PM
I thought nearly all US facilities were air-conditioned to the point that even in summer you need to wear a jacket indoors XD.

I guess if the temperature is regularly over 40°C some air conditioning might be apropriate?

You could always buy a portable AC unit with the cool air directed into the hardware.

Alternatively if your climate exceeds 40°C simply ask about spondoolies long-term hosting solution for US customers...
