1721  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Can I sell fireworks for bitcoins on this forum? on: June 21, 2011, 05:25:33 AM
Is that something I can do mod? Please let me know. Thanks.

You can try but I believe the whole point of creating this sub-forum was so that anyone who wanted could ignore all the newbies.

(I'm not a moderator, BTW.)
1722  Economy / Marketplace / Re: [Announcement] - MetaCo.in, group buying deals from the bitcoin world! on: June 21, 2011, 12:43:13 AM
I can testify to the effectiveness of the Metaco.in campaign. True, things might have gone better if the dominant Bitcoin exchange hadn't gotten hacked almost immediately following their launch, but traffic to my site and sales definitely increased. Hopefully, once things settle down people will be more willing to actually use their bitcoins.

1724  Economy / Marketplace / Re: How are merchants dealing with the lack of price data? on: June 20, 2011, 01:41:06 PM
My prices are based on the highest exchange rate I've seen - $34USD to 1BTC. I firmly believe we'll bounce back from recent events and bitcoins will ultimately be worth much more. Call it my own form of speculating. In the meantime, my customers get to enjoy premium coffee at great prices and don't have to worry that they could have saved a ton of coin by just waiting a few more hours before purchasing.
1725  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: TradeHill Spam on: June 20, 2011, 01:11:57 AM
Seven emails from someone I don't know, giving me advice I don't need, encouraging me to change exchanges even though I already have accounts at both, and trying to get referral fees out of it - that sure meets my definition of spam.

As I mentioned in another thread, I'd like to point out this person is not affiliated with The Bitcoin List in any way.
1726  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Someone spamming the MtGox userlist with TradeHill referral spam on: June 20, 2011, 12:59:12 AM
I got 7 of those emails.

I'd also like to say that this person is not affiliated with The Bitcoin List in any way.
1727  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Someone cashed out on mtgox - price from $17 to $0.01 in minutes! on: June 19, 2011, 06:08:20 PM
I'm just glad prices are bouncing back. I was afraid I was going to have to ship coffee for fractions of a penny!
1728  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Someone's cashing out the motherload on mtgox - price from $17 to $3 in minutes on: June 19, 2011, 05:50:35 PM
It's beginning to look like someone managed to somehow fill every single buy order on Mt. Gox.

Wow, someone only had to ask?
1730  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: MetaCo.in is finally live! First bitcoin group-buying deal is up! on: June 19, 2011, 05:23:24 PM
I've had several individuals inquire about international shipping and in each case, it's been cost prohibitive for just a few ounces of coffee. PM me and I'll find out exactly how much it would cost to ship to your location.
1731  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: MetaCo.in is finally live! First bitcoin group-buying deal is up! on: June 19, 2011, 05:16:11 PM
I wanted to chime in and thank Gabriel and everyone else at Metaco.in for asking me to participate in the first Metaco.in promotion. I'm deeply honored, guys.

I'd also like to remind all of you that an excellent cup of BitBrew coffee is a great way to introduce someone to bitcoins! Offer them a cup, and when they ask where you got it from, you can inform them that it's only available for purchase with this great new decentralized, crypto-currency.
1732  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Question for other bitcoin businesses on: June 19, 2011, 05:07:12 PM
Right now I'm getting the most traffic from the Metaco.in deal that's currently under way. (Thanks Gabriel!)

I notice I get a bump in traffic after I post in the forum , but I also try to limit my contributions to substantive comments, not just spam. Advertising with Operation Fabulous sends a bit my way, and I've found that advertising on related sites helps the most.

Since I started The Bitcoin List, I've also gotten some traffic from there, as well as other directories. I plan on doing some promotions on Facebook and Twitter and non-Bitcoin related sites as soon as I have more time. I'll keep you updated if I come across something that works really well.
1733  Economy / Economics / Re: Marginal value of a bitcoin on: June 19, 2011, 04:34:03 PM
I think you should be comparing the cost of one more Bitcoin to the subjective value of the equivalent USD. For example, to me, one more BTC is worth much more than the current market rate, but I won't transfer the USD in my bank account because I still need it to pay my mortgage, buy groceries, pay utilities, etc. If I had more disposable income, I'd convert it.

1735  Economy / Marketplace / Re: New Bitcoin Directory - The Bitcoin List on: June 19, 2011, 08:20:02 AM
I've dropped the price for putting your banner in the header rotation to .05 BTC/month.

1738  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Lovely New Golden Mean Caliper Cases : Art/Maths Gadgets on: June 19, 2011, 07:27:19 AM
I don't think you have to include the word "allegedly." It's there, it just might not have been intentional.
1739  Economy / Economics / Re: difficulty is holding back BTC value on: June 19, 2011, 07:23:31 AM

If the situation would never reasonably occur it is invalid as an argument.

Do you know why the situation would never reasonably occur?  I'll tell you why: because the value of BTC is related to difficulty, and before it reached a 20:1 relationship more miners would start mining and some buyers would quit buying.

You're making claims without anything to back them up.
1740  Economy / Marketplace / Re: What bitcoin businesses do you want to see on MetaCo.in? on: June 19, 2011, 07:07:33 AM
Businesses selling mining rigs seem to be very popular at the moment. I'm not a miner, so I can't really say that there's one in particular you should go after.
