Anyone else getting a 502?

Thanks.
We get the same error and it seems that all freebitcoin users also experience it and not just us, only this time the error lasts quite a long time because usually some time the website can be accessed immediately without problems, I tried checking on the freebitcoin twitter page and there was an announcement that they are doing maintenance https://twitter.com/freebitco/status/1610587269764911104 so we have to patiently wait for it to finish
Thank you for giving us the link of this tweet, because their servers seem to be shutdown since several hours now, and I was starting to really wondering what was going on, because the message from Cloudfare "Bad gateway Error code 502" is not explicit at all. Anyway I hope it's not a serious thing, and everything will be back quickly. At least to be able to access to our balance, the faucet and the other games are less critical.

1743  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Private key from biometric data? on: January 02, 2023, 11:49:55 AM
Biometric identification is not new, it's used since many years in many serious areas and no big issues had been reported concerning that matter afaik.
I wouldn't say no big issues. There have been facial scanners which have been fooled by a simple photo of the subject. Someone was able to bypass an ultrasonic fingerprint scanner simply by taking a photo of the necessary fingerprint with his phone and then 3D printing a replica, in a process that took him under 3 minutes - https://imgur.io/gallery/8aGqsSu. Biometrics are not secure.
I wasn't talking about that, I was talking about keeping constant or at least keeping working your biometric ID, as I said it's used since many years in critical areas, for critical things with no public issues reported about that. If the system wasn't reliable it means it would be dangerous to travel abroad with a biometric passport, as it could prevent you from being able to return in your own country.
If you use alternatively 2 or 3 different biometric criteria for the same access/key I don't think anyone could consider it as unreliable. Someone losing his 2 eyes, all his fingers and his voice the same day, is less likely to happen than a bank losing your datas and preventing you from accessing your funds. And I'm not talking about losing the medium(mostly a sheet of paper) where people are storing their seeds currently. So a multisig wallet system or something similar seems to be more than enough for this purpose IMO.

1744  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Private key from biometric data? on: January 01, 2023, 09:57:37 PM
Hi everyone,

I have a question related to building a private key based on biometric data.

Is it possible to build a reproducible ID, or string of characters, from a bunch of biometric measurements?
Given the fact that biological systems (humans in that case), evolve, get damaged, etc..

In the end, is it possible to make a reproducible private key from biometric data?
Because, a private key needs to be unique and constant, as far as i know.

Thanks!

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thank you for the answers, but I have neither mentionned bitcoin, fingerprints, nor the intended application, so please do not over interpret my question.

Any biological system is evolving over time, getting damaged, etc... One might be tempted to say that it is impossible to produce a constant string of caracters from such an evolving system. However, because producing the string is an immesse reduction of information, I think it is theoretically possible to create a string that would be constant despite the evolving system.

If you would know of any papers on the subject, I would gladly read them, thanks!
I don't think the main issue is to be able to keep constant your biometric ID. Biometric identification is not new, it's used since many years in many serious areas and no big issues had been reported concerning that matter afaik. Moreover I don't think it would be very inconvenient to change your key/seed and your wallet every 10 or 15 years(biometric passports are usually valid for 10 years), it would even be a good thing for your crypto safety actually.
But what is to care about here is the entropy(randomness) of the private keys generated this way IMO. Because if the entropy is too weak, hackers will be able to identify ranges of keys likely to be generated and used, and will be able to concentrate their computing power on them. The strength of BTC private keys is too be highly unpredictable and independent from each other. Initially, guessing a random private key is in the same order of magnitude as guessing the geodetic coordinates of a random atom in the whole universe, that won't be the case anymore with a system like that I think.
1745  Economy / Gambling / Re: What sort of Weekly & Monthly Bonuses do Bitcointalk members want? on: January 01, 2023, 09:28:35 PM
Weekly tournament that involves winning rate percentage or wager volume with multiple winners is what I really like to see on the casino promotion in weekly basis. My current casino offers this kind of tournament that rewards to 100 user a USDT in exchange for a certain amount of wagering requirements.

A special promotion too on Blackjack tables and free spin is what I like too as special promotion in addition to the weekly tournament. I believe that I already browse Punt last time but I failed to pursue playing because bonus code that you offer is only limited to few user.
I agree with you, I also prefer tournaments with multiple prizes than a simple rakeback bonus sent each week or each month. Tournaments give more activity to the casino and more incentive to gamble to players IMO. Personally my favorite ones are total bets count tournaments, because high rollers have no advantage over other players in this kind of contest.

I wouldnt say that exactly but sometimes there will be better periods of luck, I'm still waiting for my 10x 5000 win day on just a normal set of rolls.  Earlier I used 40 rolls and got no good results especially, all base rewards which cant be called bad just normal luck and nothing specially better unfortunately that is normal.   But Im patient and I have won several Golden tickets in a row previously so cant complain as thats fairly exceptional.   So I've noticed any exceptional difference recently but congrats to those that have been lucky.

I won the FUN price bet, simple enough and the BTC price also ended flat looks like too simple I skipped that one this time.   For Jan I have to wait and see, normal trading begins this week and gives a fair better indictor but Jan can often be a stormy month we'll see.
It's not so common to meet someone not betting when it's too easy to win for him  Cheesy You don't like getting easy money STT? Unfortunately I bet on 3 ranges of the BTC price, and it's the one with the smallest odds that won. So I didn't make profits with this bet, it seems it wasn't so easy for everyone at the end. Luckily, I had placed a big bet of 30 mbtc on one single range of the FUN price, and a smaller one on few range of ETH price, which gave me few profits to start the year, at the end.🥂
1747  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Betting strategy question on: January 01, 2023, 08:26:30 PM
...
The thing is that we humans are not great dealing with probabilities in our minds, so the casinos and other gambling companies simply use this fact in their favor.

It's not natural to think about probabilities, we are just not good at it. On the other hand for example we are great at thinking in terms of Newtonian physics, we don't need to calculate an equation to know how to throw a rock for example, yet we can think perfectly well how to do it. For probabilities you actually have to calculate the math behind it.

True, but that being said, every (or almost every) casino goer or other gambler is at least aware that odds are not in their favour and that's not the reason they engage in gambling.

The major appeal of casinos, be it physical or online ones, is probably the entertainment and the dopamine rush, while nation-wide lotteries with huge winnings sell people hope and possibility (statistically impossible but still) of changing their lives in an instant without any effort.
Odds are not in favour of the player for any games, even for lottery games. But having a negative EV doesn't mean nobody can make profits, in the same way as positive EV doesn't mean that anyone could get losses. It just mean that thousands of bets at this game, will bring money to the casino. But those bets are usually made by several different players, and some of them could get an insane winning streak while other could get a long losing one, some can win a big bet from a big stake, while other could lose all their bank roll within an all-in bet.
There are lucky players at all games of chance, along with unlucky ones, they are just fewer when EV is negative.

Thank you, yes I've wagered a lot on Livecasino this month, but lately I got a hard losing streak and my bank roll had severely dipped. At least I managed to reach my goal, because I managed to get the Legend rank (the 6th level). When I started to gamble on Livecasino I didn't think it was feasible for me to even reach the Guru rank, so I'm very proud and happy to finish 2022 (and to begin 2023) at this rank.

Wow nice mate, glad to see this extraordinary achievement Shocked  766590 poins if 1 point is 1 EUR then I can't imagine how much your total wager
I am curious about what games you play, is slots game or live game? I'm sure it's not the dice game we used to play for wagering  Cheesy Really this is one of my targets that have not been achieved here.
766590€ in one month no, I couldn't achieve that, it would be a really insane amount, representing nearly 200 000€ wagered each week. Actually 1€ gives 5 points according to the Loyalty page. That means 1 point is worth €0.2. But once you reach the Master rank you get a 1.25x point multiplier and a 1.5x one when you are Guru. So 1€ gives 7.5 points and 1 point is worth €0.13 in a reality for a Guru. I mainly play live games : baccarat, blackjack, roulette and card games, more rarely craps and game shows, but I also play slots from time to time.

Quote
How are level points calculated?
Every time you bet the equivalent of €1, you get 5 points. Example: If your bet is worth €3, you get 15 points.
When you reach a level of higher multipliers, your points will accumulate faster.

1749  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin and me (Hal Finney) on: January 01, 2023, 01:20:36 PM
Hal Finney's twitter came to life.

The account was revived by his wife and launched a fundraising marathon to find a cure for the illness that Hal died from. Donations are accepted in bitcoins.

Generally, it would not be good to post from the account of a deceased person; however, it seems that this situation may well be an exception to such rule based on what Hal's wife Fran had said her intentions were to make sure that Hal's account was not deleted due to lack of activity due to some recent policies and/or algorithms that Elon seems to have been implementing at Twitter.  So, therefore Fran had said that the reason that she was posting through Hal's account was to attempt to lessen the chances that Hal's Twitter account would be deleted. I cannot remember where I had heard that information, perhaps on a bitcoin-related podcast in which the topic of Hal's Twitter account was being discussed?
I don't understand why his account shouldn't be deleted. All his tweets are certainly already archived somewhere in several places, so there is no need for his account to stay alive IMO, used by someone else in addition. No one can say if he would agree with these tweets on his behalf. Moreover his account can be hacked, and used for deceiving and scamming people, like what happened with the gmx email address of Satoshi Nakamoto, and one day his tweets could even be modified by his widow or someone else if the feature becomes available.

Happy new year 2023 everyone! 🥳🎊🎉🍾✨🎆
My main goals will be to avoid scams and to keep out my funds from the exchanges, casinos, and any custodial platforms the most I can and to put them in a quiet ledger.
I also hope to increase my skills in trading, sport betting and casino gambling in order to manage to make profits and to earn more good old BTCitcoins at the end.
And my main wish is to have less spam to read here in 2023  Grin

I wish you the best for 2023 my friends. Smiley

a lot have betted on the 15001-17500 range. put some money into the 17501-20000 range as the odds is at 2.58. now, i'll be watching what price will it cross at the last day of this year.  Grin only betting with btc/eth/fun token price for now. wonder what sports are they putting next for betting lines?
btw, the 2x reward points is currently running, good for those who want to earn more RPs to exchange something in their list.
It seems there is no suspense now for the $15001-$17500 range to win. And unexpectedly odds are pretty high for that range @1.44 represents +44% without the Time Weight Multiplier bonus, that's a nice winning. But winnings will be even more high for the bets on ETH since it's the second range with the most bets that will win ($1,001 - $1,250) with @2.52 odds representing +152% profits from the stake.

Congratulation on being in the top 20 I bet you wagered a lots in last week's tournament.  It is sad that you did not manage to get a profit from the Fireworks of Fortune promotion  but at least you are qualified to get several.  I did not manage to get even a single firework even though I wagered more than 3k last week because it was spread out in several days.  Anywho  I am still glad that I am able to get a good win and got a higher ranking than the previous week.

1753  Economy / Gambling / Re: Freebitco.in - FUN Token Investment Experiment on: December 31, 2022, 08:55:32 PM
How do you feel about the results, as expected ?  Its nice to see someone collate it all, I only summed up an estimate in my head tbh.
I'm satisfied with the results so far. I think +10% interest in less than 180 days is a good deal for a passive income investment. My only regret is to have gambled to earn cashback, imagining that would be profitable and ROI could be hit faster that way. I lost money doing that, so I gave up the cashback feature.
May I ask you on which game you've gambled? It was on the multiply BTC game or on sports betting? If it was on the multiply BTC game did you use a bonus amount? Because even with the bonus you can't get a positive EV afaik, the bonus will divide the 5% house edge by 2, but it won't be enough to make profits, with 0.8% or even 1% cashback despite RPs and lottery tickets. The only way to make profits is to win some prizes from tournaments IMO.

1755  Economy / Gambling / Re: Satoshi Auction - Bid on a prize where 98% of each bid is added to the prize. on: December 31, 2022, 05:39:09 PM
The bids reset the deadline for the auction to be 144 blocks after the bid is received. Therefore there cannot be any sniping.

I just browse your website after reading your OP. The website is lack of clear explanation about the mechanics for this kind of auction game. The minimum bid increments should be determined to know what’s a valid bid or not. Also this additional rule on sniping is very important because this an auction.

I find the extra 144 blocks again as additional block each bid is too long. So an intense battle of bids will take this game forever. Why not set a target block number for the auction date and just set a smart contract that adds few blocks when bid is made 1 to 10 blocks before the deadline.
I agree with you 144 blocks without bid can be very long, especially if two players don't want to lose the auction(the game) and have a very high bank roll each other. Besides that I don't understand what is the main difference with the other game from OP, the Coinballer https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5432506
And there is no guarantee that the owner or one of his friend won't play and won't simply cancel the round if he's losing.
1756  Economy / Gambling / Re: Coinballer - An open-source multi-player Bitcoin gambling game. on: December 31, 2022, 05:13:44 PM
People who like to use martingales and to bet more and more, will be seduced by that game. Well it's the same thing in wagering tournaments but at least you don't lose all your money if you are not the winner in this kind of tournaments. I don't like very much those games actually because we never know when the owner or one of his friend is playing. And if he is losing he could simply say something went wrong, and cancel the round, but it wouldn't be fair.
1757  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Betting strategy question on: December 31, 2022, 04:52:18 PM

Just an update for those interested. I knew there must've been some formula for determining bet size and I wasn't wrong. The good old Kelly Criterion could be helpful here (something I completely forgot about) and the formula goes:

f = p-(q/b)

f - is the fraction of the current bankroll to wager.
p - is the probability of a win.
q - is the probability of a loss (q=1-p).
b - is the proportion of the bet gained with a win

So in this case:

f = 0.17 - (0.83/11) = 9.5% of the bankroll

That's much lower than I expected. And of course, applying Kelly Strategy is not a guarantee of making a profit, and the strategy is designed to do better than other strategies in the long run, so not necessarily the best way of determining a single, non-occurring bet.
Thank you for reminding me this Kelly strategy and thank you very much for all your educated and interesting posts. For me you are certainly the most interesting member to follow in this section currently. Besides that, I agree with you the amount of the bankroll seems to be very small for me for such high EV, even with only 1/6 chances to win. I wonder if many members are using this Kelly criterion when then bet though. But I think I will reconsider my bankroll management now.

That is a good thing to offer but I will speak for myself, any information I want for a specific event I like to bet I can find the historical information without much of a headache. There are a lot of free sites that offers such opportunities and I personally would only pay the subscription if you offer something more beside the historical data which is most of the time for soccer which I play readily available with just a bit of research in google. There are also apps like Flashscore which give you a lot of such information free of charge also,so you need to offer something better than these.
Lots of free sites are offering such services? Could you name few of them please, because it would interest many people IMO. I'm not looking for betting strategies to backtest so I'm not interested in paying $10 by month for getting such datas, but if it's free (with some ads for example) I could use it from time to time.
