181  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2014-11-17] Feds to auction 50,000 bitcoins from Dread Pirate Roberts on: November 18, 2014, 12:23:36 PM
How many coins does DPR still 'have' that are not under the Fed's control? If he doesnt give them all up I'm sure they'll go down on him extra hard. Isn't he already looking at life anyway? I imagine they'll want to make an example out of him seeing as this is the first case.
182  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2014-11-14] How Brawker and Purse are solving the Amazon Wishlist Scam on: November 18, 2014, 12:19:49 PM
I wasn't aware of this service but is it basically the same as purse.io or whatever it was? Regardless I think these are a great idea. They enable people to buy coins easily and others who have them get to spend them on items they need at a potential discount.
183  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2014-11-13] Richard Branson: Digital Currency Could Transform The World on: November 18, 2014, 12:15:12 PM

He owns dozens of companies including a bank. Why can't he adopt btc via all of them? Let's be honest, Virgin Galactic is a ridiculously niche company and how many of the people who purchased a ticket on there will pay with bitcoin? I've only heard of one person doing so so far.
184  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: SNAPCHAT allows users to send money (through square)... on: November 18, 2014, 11:51:34 AM
I don't see any reason why anyone would want to send bitcoin to someone via snapchat when they could simply use a blockchain.info wallet to achieve the exact same result

I think it's about integration and ease of use and also adoption. If suddenly a send bitcoin option popped up that would pique a lot of interest. It's also easier to send money to your best mate Jimmy on snapchat via simple click or two as opposed to sending money to 1jsklgt5h9ohy6gyb77b4 by booting up your wallet etc.

I got a snapchat from Team Snapchat. It was a video of a girl sending a guy money to pay for a gift for their mother.

a) wut
b) Imagine if they integrated BTC using maybe Circle or Coinbase.

The wut made me laugh  Cheesy.
185  Economy / Reputation / Re: Do you think BiPolarBob is crazy ?? *share your deals you did with him before* on: November 18, 2014, 11:17:03 AM
I hate to say it, but I think Bob is never coming back, atleast not under this name.  Undecided
His big win was revealed, everyone knows his secret. He can never return now.

What big win was that?

That's my theory. Or maybe he is just on vacation.  Cheesy

Wrong! BPB just came on today and did a nice 0.02 giveaway. I am staying tuned to his ID for more giveaways. He normally does these in short bursts nowadays. Looks like people branding him a scammer has had this effect on him. From all my dealings with him, he seems to be a completely legit guy and a real kind person at heart. Hope he does well in whatever he does in life Smiley

Who brandished him a scammer? His trust is still fine here. I get the initial suspicions against him as I was too at the start, but it seems like he proved his legitimacy.
186  Other / Off-topic / Re: CryptoRadio! on: November 18, 2014, 09:47:12 AM
So what is this station about exactly and its purpose? Is it dedicated to bitcoin or all crypto or just Opalcoin or something?
187  Other / Meta / Re: How to discuss hardware manufacturers was Re: BFL fucked us over again on: November 18, 2014, 09:44:32 AM
While I have questioned the forums rules in the past I have come to the conclusion that the mods/admins have acted in a proper manner whether you like it or not. Try to look at everything from another angle than yours.
Try posting a link to Theymos' dox located at blockchain.info and see how quickly your opinion changes.

Yep. Seriously, RoadStress, go post theymos' dox (google and you'll find it) and see what happens.

What will happen? I thought the policy was not to remove dox? If the info is out there or on google what would it matter anyhow?
188  Other / Meta / Re: Suggestion: lending section for altcoins on: November 18, 2014, 09:42:58 AM
bitcointalk.org

I don't think you can use that argument when there is an alt coin section here. I don't use it but clearly others do so maybe other sections should be accommodated though I could take it or leave it.
189  Other / Off-topic / Re: What online music service do you use? on: November 18, 2014, 09:16:52 AM
I never use streaming services or even listen to the radio. I get all my music from blogs or file sharing sites and music webzines or sites. Using stuff like spotify is limited even though they do have a massive selection. Depends how obscure or underground you like your music lol.
190  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Bitcointalk Escrows [Updated Daily] Trade Safely! on: November 18, 2014, 09:11:35 AM
But how will you rank the big five? Your opinion may be different to others on that. I think some scoring system should be put in place. Maybe you could have a handful of users who are trusted to vote or decide the criteria for inclusion.

I will rank them as I would if I was searching for an escrow provider (who has researched prior escrows). Of course everyone can let me know their thoughts and if they provide sufficient details and reasons as to why a certain escrow should be in the big 5 then I will move them.

The big 5 are the ones that are easily reachable, have done countless smooth trades and are very professional in their business.

Without some sort of fair ranking this list is just another list of escrows but ranked in your opinion so not worth much to everyone else.

I understand the idea that someone trusted by DefaultTrust, trusted by the public may not always be as trustworthy as claimed to be

But by making this post, you are claiming that you know who is more trustworthy better than DefaultTrust, better than the public ?

If you want to make an ordered list, use a publicly verifiable algorithm which could be critiqued like : https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=276897.0
Or, just leave it unordered, don't call your favourite escrows "the big five".

Exactly. Some system should be put in place here. What are the criteria for inclusion? Your opinion? I think if this is going to be a valid and reliable list some sort of criteria needs to be stated and met.

They aren't my 'favourite escrows', but the escrows that have established themselves and proven to be trustworthy.

...In your opinion. At the moment this is just marcotheminer's favourite escrow list. I'm all for an updated escrow list as the others really aren't, but it can be dangerous when people are put on it or unfair when others are left off.
191  Economy / Gambling / Re: Primedice | The Most Popular Bitcoin Game | 1% Edge | PVP | Active Chat | Faucet on: November 18, 2014, 09:01:12 AM
Stunna just said in chat that the guy abused an exploit and therefore could use an unhashed seed; so he could predict the rolls. Obviously won't be allowed to withdraw.

Why people abuse exploits like this?

He could earn some buck either by telling Stunna about the bug or by moderating his luck, but the way he did  he got no winnings

What else could it be other than greed? Stunna mentioned that he withdrew 40btc before he was caught and I doubt the bounty for bugs would've been this big. Shame about the exploit and the fact that it was exploited but these are sadly just part of the business.
192  Other / Off-topic / Re: What Song are you Listening To? on: November 15, 2014, 12:16:15 PM
I am currently listening to the new Hans Zimmer score for Interstellar. On the track "Mountains" now. Seems to be one of the better songs on the album but I'm disappointed on a whole. Not sure if he'll top Inception any time soon.
193  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2014-11-14] “Samsung Will Be Biggest Beneficiary of the Bitcoin Market” on: November 15, 2014, 12:13:59 PM
Would be weird seeing bitcoin miners in store on the high street. I wonder if that would ever happen? Would be nice if the little people could ever contribute to mining again but I don't think that's possible now sadly.
194  Economy / Gambling / Re: Primedice | The Most Popular Bitcoin Game | 1% Edge | PVP | Active Chat | Faucet on: November 15, 2014, 12:05:20 PM
But what i learned so far proves to me that it isn't worth it. He run it for so long paid out 400+ coins and im having link in sig for like 1+ month now and i got only couple of clicks and nobody of them even plays.

So running sig campaign for pd is like just for esthetic reasons to have some exposure with this nicely designed sigs around this forum Smiley .

But fixed rate one wouldn't cost to much to run and would make many people happy. So im all for it. Wink

I thought you earned several bitcoins from referrals alone? It's not necessarily about how many clicks one user gets but on the whole? Maybe it wasnt worth paying out as much as they did, but the advertising definitely drew new users in and worked in that sense.
195  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Don't invest more than you can afford to lose on: November 15, 2014, 12:02:30 PM
Don't invest more than you can afford to lose.
Don't invest less than you can afford to lose.
Invest what you can afford to lose.

Once you have freed yourself from your materialistic desires, you'll find that you can afford to lose everything.

Unless you have a family that count on you. Then, neither Bitcoin nor Dollars mean shit. They're are just a means to provide for what is truly important.

I wish as a society we could go back to a more basic time whilst still keeping the technology. I think if people sourced their own food locally and wern't duped into spending their money on shit we'd be in a better society all together.

Why don't you do it then? You don't have to wait for the whole of society to join in. Many people live meeker lives and buy their food from local farmers etc or even grow their own.
196  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2014-11-15] CD: Australian Government: Welfare Applicants Must Declare Bitcoin on: November 15, 2014, 11:59:55 AM
It was only a matter of time before they started making people do this. You could have large stocks of bitcoin and still claim welfare, though of course it could be very hard to prove that you own any if you said you didn't, especially if they had no idea about it in the first place  Cheesy.
197  Other / Meta / Re: Change of username on: November 15, 2014, 11:56:44 AM
BadBear is an administrator as far as I know , so lol .. Of course he can Shocked

You just said nobody could change your name, but obviously someone can. Nice backtrack, though  Grin.
198  Economy / Economics / Re: I had a thought today on: November 15, 2014, 11:54:54 AM
3. How much % of my pay should I put into bitcoin? If I only have enough to put around $5 - $20 a month in it, do you think that that small amount would have potential to be a lot?

As much or as little as you can afford to invest. Bitcoin isn't a magical get rich quick scheme, but a lot of us can see the potential in it for investment but nobody can tell you how much btc will be worth in the future as it is all baseless speculation.
199  Other / Meta / Re: Change of username on: November 15, 2014, 11:46:17 AM
Can you change my name to LazyWhale? I tried registering again but it said it already exists.

Because you've taken it lol. The usernames aren't case sensitive.

Can you change my name to LazyWhale? I tried registering again but it said it already exists.

No one can change your Username mate , unless you donate 50 BTC

Except Badbear just did

I'm just waiting to see how many more posts we get before people notice I changed it. Tongue

I don't typically do it but it's the same name, just capitalization that changed, no biggie.
200  Economy / Economics / Re: I had a thought today on: November 15, 2014, 11:42:04 AM
I am becoming more convinced that Bitcoin is better to hold onto than USD and that USD will have to fail. I wish we knew how long though until it crashes.

Fiat currencies will fail eventually, but like you said we can't know for sure when. They're unstable if they keep printing more to try magically solve their problems.
