I first heard and "got involved" in June 2010 I was set to make a mint if I hadn't been an idiot and thought it was a fad. I don't have that wallet anymore and am trying to get back into the game, but feel like I may have been passed by on this. Getting in at $.10/BTC made sense. Getting in now feels like a major battle. I don't see any reason why there should be a $60 ceiling. BTC commerce is based on its own market and imho, the offline market value is strictly there for reference purposes. At some point when the entire financial system goes bust BTC will still act as a form of payment for digital goods and services, thus giving it a value of its own. I love that it is ~$30 because it is essentially money that has been created from thin air, and the world will start taking note because of this. When it hits $60, they will have to stand up and take note. It will be interesting to watch, but I trust we will see it shoot past 60 with ease.

Mission for the night completed. Make a forum alum laugh. Done. The basis of the book I am working on is this: Online Culture is already such a huge part of everyday life, but when will the balance change when online life dictates the policies(cool, not cool, right not right, viable, not viable...etc) of offline life. My theory is that we are nearing that point. Whether it is online friendship, relationship, commerce, currency(why I am here)....whatever the situation is. We are facing a time when what happens online can and probably will dictate what happens in the real world moreso than what happens in the real world dictating what happens on the internet(yes I realize that this has been the case for a while, but the people not deeply involved in the internet do not see it this way). So what I am trying to do is find out what is going to tip the scales to make the "IRL" crowd realize that they are at least 2 years behind the times in most aspects of their lives. The topics we speak about are unknown to them and seem foolish to most. BTC to even the most forward thinking of my friends sounds like, as one of them put it, "monopoly money for grown ups"....For those of us who know better that seems foolish, but it is the way of things right now. Now as for why I am here, well, I hope to learn more about Bitcoin, I hope to see why people have faith in it, and I hope to be a part of it when it turns truly mainstream(yep, I'm a greedy motherfucker like that). But all in all I just really want to learn what makes the community tick, and hopefully add something to a community that, even after a couple hours, has been a great group of people to talk to.

I know I will read this in the morning and scold myself for sounding like a total d-bag asshole. But whatever.

Not 20 year old Pappy Van Winkle. If I were to go into detail at this point it would probably read like a 15 year old girls facebook status.

Fear not, I am not asking for anything.

I am working on a book and am looking to research. I posted something about this in my introduce yourself post, but figured I would try to post my own thread. The project I am currently working on is about the societal influence of the internet on modern society. It sounds broad, but given my background it will be much more informed than most works of non-fiction on the subject. I am going in deep y'all, and hope that you will assist me in my research for this. A little background, my best friend Elliott introduced me to BTC back in 2010 and I dabbled briefly before my life tore me away and it took a back burner. I have always kept track, but have never been involved. Then this project sort of threw itself in my lap and the internet and all it's mechanics came back to the forefront of my existence. Naturally when I was given the option of working on this project BTC came pouring back into my life and I started to research it again. It is my hope that you people, as a community, will give me your blessing to lurk, question, and participate in your community. I believe that writers owe their subjects the right to contribute to what is being written about them, and I hope you will give me the honor of being a part of your community as an observer, as well as a participant. I hope to learn more about Bitcoin, about the community that makes it work, and about you as individuals.

I will be happy to elaborate more on the project at another time. It is Saturday and I am pretty deep into a bottle of bourbon. Please give me initial feedback. Good or Bad.

Not to mention it's in the newbie forum Tongue  First person I'd want to scam is a newcomer who doesn't know any better.

True that. It is my intention to rob you all blind, but I have the common sense to wait until I can get out of the newbie forum....did I just type that outloud :x damn it. I suck at this. Nobody legit gets that pissy in public over something as small as any forum deal.

190  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Where do you see bitcoins in 5 year? on: February 24, 2013, 03:45:50 AM
In 5 years, I think BTC will be the most valuable of the digital currencies. The way things are headed(tinfoil hats on full), the world currency market will be in a freefall if no a complete crash leaving only precious metals as the only way of doing commerce. BTC, to me, is the first digital precious metal. I believe that any commerce done in the digital market will be done with BTC. It is the oldest, and most accepted digital currency, and whereas I hope that we never see this day, I can't help but think that there is a massive shift in the way business is transacted in the next 5 years. Now please remove your tinfoil hats and carry on gentlepeople.

Good Day Gentlepeople. My name is Woodcock. I am "new" to bitcoin. My introduction came in the early months of 2010 from the son of a financial genius. I mined a little, learned what I could, and then let it go. Smack me in the face and call me a dumbass for that. I have followed the movement, know more than most newbies, but still feel like an idiot for not getting involved when I was first told about BTC. I am currently working on a book about the society of the internet, the good and the bad. I recently signed with a publishing house and will be tapping this community for knowledge about this aspect of online life. I will not be intrusive, most of you won't even know I am here. I thank you for your help, both solicited and unsolicited in my research for this project I am working on. I figured I would register and introduce myself. I hope to get to know you people and I thank you for helping new people learn about this incredible currency. All the Best. Woodcock
