Well done, Doc.  Oh, and congrats on your 4 year anniversary, as well!  Does this make you and Eligius the two oldest remaining pools now that eleuthria has shuttered the guild?
1802  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: New mining hardware for july on: July 03, 2015, 10:37:40 PM
The real question is are they going to be a game changer or just eeking out a tiny bit of efficiency.

Unless Bitmain has been completely sneaky and managed to create a whole new batch of chips on a 16 or 20nm process, the chances are exceptionally good that any gains will be slight tweaks to the efficiency of the BM1384 chip.

And that makes Baby Jesus cry.
Yeah it would be a huge bummer if that was the case, I am pretty sure we are all ready for a new chip and set up, it feels like it's been a while since the last one though.
It has been a while, but looking at Bitmain's past advances...

S1 180GH/s for 360W
S3 440GH/s for 340W
S5 1155GH/s for 590W

They're certainly moving the bar up with each release.  Although, unless they've developed a new smaller process and/or more efficient chip (KnC claims to have 16nm chips at some absurdly low power requirements) I don't see a huge leap for the S7.  My guess would be something along the lines of 1.5TH/s for about the same 590W.
1803  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Bitmain Antminer S6 and S7 Speculation on: July 03, 2015, 10:26:36 PM
Is there actually any competitive threat to them at this time?
Isn't BitFury deploying / about to deploy their new chips?  From a consumer sales standpoint, no, Bitmain doesn't have any serious competitive threats.

1805  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: predictions of future difficulty on: July 03, 2015, 10:18:59 PM
so either way I'm stuck with a very small limited amount of income with 2 s3s.  if the price goes down then so does my profit, if the price goes up and as you say the difficulty rise is guaranteed then I mine less coins, less profit.  I can only hope that less coins are mined so that the difficulty goes down while the price goes up a bit
Difficulty going up is not guaranteed, even with an increase in the BTC exchange rate.  It's very likely that it will, but it's not guaranteed.  Regardless, 2 S3s are indeed a very limited amount of income at current difficulty and exchange values.

Hiya JB,

Regarding kanos latest firmware:

I upgraded my S3s to use this.

....did you manage to get the hash rate stats up on mmonitor/cryptoglance by any chance? If so, what flags are you using?

Thanks.
Since you asked in both threads... figured I'd reply to you in both Smiley.  No, I don't use any monitoring software applications.  You might want to give mdude77 a shout out to see if he's planning to update his app to support the standard APIs (that kano uses with his updated stuff) in addition to the Bitmain ones.  Not sure how much effort it would be on his part, but it's worth asking.  Of course, this is assuming you're using his monitoring app Smiley.  If not, check out the threads for those apps and ask the developers.

I wasn't aware of any outstanding issues with S3s not monitoring properly in my app.

M
Kano's newly released updated S3 software seems to have broken some monitoring tools for some people because it uses standard cgminer APIs and not Bitmain's altered versions of them.  I'm not sure how your app behaves since I don't use any monitoring apps... I was just letting p3yot33at3r know what kano had written in his thread, hoping to steer him in the right direction.

Yeah, posted it in kanos thread by mistake - deleted it as soon as I realized Roll Eyes  Grin
Appears somebody got crypto glance working with kano's patch for the S3.  Check out the post in kano's pool thread here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=789369.msg11783543#msg11783543

Pretty sure that's set the record for lowest hash finding a solo block here... funny how somebody asked just a little bit ago, too.

Congrats to whoever's running those S1s (I'm assuming it's hotwired007 since he seems to know quite a bit about them Smiley )
1809  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: NastyPoP vs Standard P2Pool on: July 03, 2015, 07:28:34 PM
Oops... I guess I forgot to update the thread last week.  I captured the numbers, but never posted.  So, this week I'll give the numbers from both last week and this.  P2Pool had a run of bad luck these past few weeks, which offset the previous few weeks of good luck.  As such, the numbers reflect the luck.

On another side note: if you haven't already done so, and you run your own p2pool node, update it to the latest version.  See the posts in the official p2pool thread upgrade announcement.

So, here are the numbers for the past couple weeks:

6/19 - 6/26
NastyPoP - 0.02159208BTC
NastyP2P - 0.0193531BTC
Expected - 0.030107BTC
Luck - 60.76%

6/26 - 7/3
NastyPoP - 0.02828584BTC
NastyP2P - 0.01623161BTC
Expected - 0.030263BTC
Luck - 81.3%

Here is the command Line I'm using to start CGminer:

I'm not quite sure what the "BMSC" options are as far as what the number signify.
The bmsc-options set the baud rate and timeout value.  Always use 115200 as the baud rate.  That's standard for USB.  The timeout value can be tweaked depending on your preference.

Personally, I don't even use the bmsc-options on my U2s.
1811  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Old Bitcoin mining Rig on: July 03, 2015, 05:09:18 PM
So I happened to find an old bitcoin mining rig thats still in complete working condition, it has 10 GPU's and a power supply, i don't think it would be profitable to use it for mining, is there anything else i can do with 10 GPU's?
Is there a single PSU that can support 10 GPUs?

As has been suggested, sell it for parts and get the BTC that way.  You could also set it up as some kind alt-coin rig and let people rent it out on MRR.

Sorry, no.  I don't use the monitoring apps.  I just look directly at the miners.  You might want to ping mdude77 to see if he's going to make any changes to his app to reflect the standard cgminer APIs in addition to the borked Bitmain ones.
1814  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [1800 TH] Kano CKPool (kano.is) from the cgminer devs [0.9% PPLNS] on: July 03, 2015, 04:40:00 PM
I've put an AntS3 update archive in my binaries git hub of latest 4.9.2 cgminer.
For details and installing: https://github.com/kanoi/cgminer-binaries/tree/master/AntS3

This has been tested and run on both an old AntS3 and one of the later AntS3

I don't have an AntS3+ but I suspect it should work fine there also.

The menu frequency settings in the "Miner Configuration" "Advanced Settings" web interface includes default settings for both S3 and S3+

I've, of course, tested it on my pool https://kano.is/

It should also be OK on p2pool since it's the same code related to p2pool as in my AntS1 and AntS2 releases

Please give it a try and let me know if anyone has any trouble with it on AntS3 or AntS3+
I upgraded my S3s to use this.  I'm happy to report that they are all functioning quite happily and hashing away on p2pool.  Reported hash rate is accurate and things seem to be going quite well so far.  I've also noticed that CPU utilization is down quite a bit and my S3s are not constantly rebooting like they did previously using the NH-provided extranonce patch.

Thanks again for your work.  While I don't mine on your pool often (I have in the past), I figured I'd throw you a donation for the work you've done.  Go enjoy a couple beers on me Smiley.  Here's the TxID: 80b31448a4bf00d56a25a197565f6760013e2aed7bf2b7deded694ea8637c7d2

Are you sure? I still got the blanks too - I think everyone has........

Edit: Oh, hello forrestv - any news on this blank thing?  Wink

I think the commit I just pushed should remove them.

Also, we're at 94.7% converted (averaged over the last hour)! Looks like someone big upgraded recently.
I upgraded to the latest commit and no longer see the blank spaces.  Forrestv, thanks for the work you've done, both in creating p2pool in the first place and the recent updates to ensure we don't get left behind when BIP66 goes into effect.

I have sent a small donation to the BTC address you have listed in the README.md in the github repo of p2pool.  It isn't much, but it does reflect 1% of the total I've mined on p2pool since I started here early last year.  The TxID is: 237b9a5b1f444274bb8320e1eee04179dd6b4446ddd2e2948002c8b889c3c31d.  I've also added a 1% donation on my node using the --give-author parameter.

Thanks again for your work.
1816  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Antminer s3+ setup on: July 02, 2015, 02:24:10 PM
I'm not disagreeing I would agree most likely he had a different IP set being sent out then his old place.

I in no way meant to set them up wireless.   I'm asking if OP had wireless as I have a feeling his "modem" is a all in one with wireless, ports, etc.   But I could be wrong and he has a plain modem and pluged it to one computer until today getting a router, I just am doubting it.

I was going to try to help OP get his S3 connected to his "modem" if it was a all in one modem/router like I have it is.   And that router would not be needed as it was all in one from ISP.  But my feeling turns out to be wrong then I will try to help him connect it to router.

Just trying to see more about his network setup.
We're both trying to get the same info from the guy... and I'm pretty sure we both think the root cause of his problems is the same Smiley.  I used to have one of those all in one types (still do, actually), but I don't use it as my primary router any longer... now I've got the all in one just functioning as the modem (it's networking is bridged) and I've got a router that does the actual routing job, along with a number of multi-port switches throughout my house.

whats the lowest hash on here to solve a block? just wondering if its worth running my 3x S1s on here...
Didn't somebody hit with 880GH/s or something a while back?  Pretty sure that was here... Smiley
1818  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: How much is spent on bitcoin mining? on: July 02, 2015, 02:07:34 PM
I heard the minium to invest is 50.000$ in bitcoin mining to make some profit.  So how more u will spend the more u earn.
Off topic, and incorrect.  There is no "minimum" you must invest in mining to make some profit (well, I guess technically if you invest $0).  It's all about how you spend what money you do invest.  For example, investing $500 into a used S1 would be a very poor choice and not lead to any profits whatsoever.
1819  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Antminer s3+ setup on: July 02, 2015, 12:58:17 AM
I just got a router. everything is plug in correctly. I am able the login to the new router using the its IP address. but when I login to the new router the IP address for the antminers are not listed. I really don't know what to do or whats going on.
What is the IP address of the new router?  Things need to match.  For example, if your old setup was working properly and you had never changed anything, it is very likely your old modem/router was providing addresses to your hardware in the 192.168.0.XX range.  The S3 uses this same range, so everything would have just worked happily.  If you're having problems now, it's very likely the new router from the new ISP is using a different IP range, so it can't see those S3s (which are still using the old 192.168.0.XX address).

I asked some questions above.  I really wonder if he has a all in one type modem from ISP.  He had a modem and I think it's a slim chance he had a Ethernet cord coming to just one device from a modem.

OP did you have wireless when just had your "modem"?   On you "modem" does it have ethernet spots on the back for more then one?

Just trying to see if it's all in one device or truly just a plain modem.
Since he replied that he's just moved and these miners were working properly before, I can't imagine he initially went through the problem of setting them up wirelessly.  Yes, the S3 will work wirelessly if you set it up, I posted about it last year when they were released.  However, chances are he hasn't gone into the S3 config to change things around to use the wireless.

So, the scenario is far more likely that his new ISP, with the new modem/router isn't using the same 192.168.0.XX address his old one was.
1820  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Why is it taking so long to confirm? on: July 02, 2015, 12:52:58 AM
This transaction: ed3339dc53a0732db18b39932349f0bc59371526583481b39435fa7231ee4035

is not confirming because it spends an output that was received in transaction: a044109ce65973fb0a567e34ab1e4237e0718e5b4b0984e3fff939c20e3dc34d

and that transaction is not confirmed yet.  The transaction you are asking about CAN NOT confirm until the transaction that funds it confirms.

Unfortunately, that earlier transaction only paid a fee of 0.00002260 BTC (10 satoshis per byte), so it may take a while for it to confirm (if ever).

Well written wallet software should not allow you to accidentally spend unconfirmed outputs in your transactions.  This means that you are either using a poorly written wallet (and you should inform the wallet developer that their wallet is a piece of crap that needs to be fixed ASAP), or you made a decision yourself to take on the risks associated with spending unconfirmed outputs (and you shouldn't make such decisions if you don't understand the risks).
I'm using Bitcoin Core and I can send unconfirmed unspent outputs. Is Bitcoin Core poorly written wallet?

Ps: If you send bitcoins from yourself to yourself on bitcoin core, then you can spend the zero confirmed unspent output...

AFAIK you can only send the unspent outputs if the transaction have the minimum required fees which make the transaction in high priority
I wasn't aware that the core software even let you spend the unconfirmed transactions in the first place, unless you've chosen to allow it in the options.  Every time I've tried to send more coins than showed in my available balance, the core software has told me I cannot do it.  Obviously OP overrode that without understanding the consequences of doing so and is now wondering why things aren't playing nicely.
