Coiner1 -  You are a genius!

He sure the hell is! Look how he MADE me take his idea to the nth degree. He's a genius!
18022  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I hooked up a servo motor to fly a bitcoin flag when a bitcoin payment is made. on: July 03, 2014, 12:03:55 AM
Something silly I made...

A flag (with a bitcoin symbol on it) goes up in my office when ever someone makes a bitcoin payment.

You can see the flag in the lower left corner laying down when no payment was made.

Donate to make it go up. Somebody else has to donate to make it go down.

How about 200+ flags, one for each country? Again, pay for it to fly, or pay for it to come down.

Next, a fan so others can adjust the wind speed for the next 5 minutes to wave the up flags. Next, a recording of a barking dog, whereupon others may pay to have a second dog barking or make one of them stop.

Get the picture? Soon, you'll have an entire room full of various types of apparatuses, each accepting payment towards for the pleasure of seeing them run. Genius!

Edit: Sport team flags just came to mind. Think college kids spending mom and dad's money to see their colors fly.

But, you better hurry before some rouge college beats you to the punch.

18023  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I need some good Bitcoin resources- to help explain Crypto to an investor HELP! on: July 02, 2014, 07:26:49 PM
"I have a lot of friends who are programmers. The programmers have always gone like, "Those [Bitcoin] guys are crazy."

And then, almost 100 percent of the time, they sit down, read the paper, read the code — it takes them a couple weeks -- and they come out the other side. And they're like: "Oh my god, this is it. This is the big breakthrough. This is the thing we've been waiting for. He solved all the problems. Whoever he is should get the Nobel prize -- he's a genius. This is the thing! This is the distributed trust network that the Internet always needed and never had."

So, one of the challenges is you take people who aren't professional programmers or mathematicians and then you expect them to understand it from a standing start. And it's daunting. And so then it gets a word attached to it, like "currency" or whatever you want to call it, and then people think that it is something it isn't. And you have a sense of this, but it's a much deeper concept than currency. It's the idea of distributed trust."
—Marc Andreessen (in conversation with Brian Fung)

18024  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / The OFFICIAL "Post Your Various Altcoin Addresses Here" to obtain free altcoins. on: July 02, 2014, 05:54:15 PM
Giveaway threads are not allowed

I've just realized that there's no rule/sticky stating that a thread can't be created for the sole purpose of others to simply post their altcoin addresses with the intent of having the garden hose hooked up to new altcoins directed toward them. Think reverse facet.

Let's see how this pans out, shalt we? Ideally, if one does get coins via this method, kindly proclaim such and thank the alt you believe sent the coins so that others can follow suit in hopes of also garnering some micro-alts. Obviously, the onus would be on the creators/admins of the altcoins to take the time to weed through this thread when they're inclined to spray their new supporters.

To be clear, this is not a "Giveaway Thread", but rather a 'takeaway' one, so to speak.

Let the shower begin!

PS: In the spirit of Josh's dialog with theymos asking permission to conduct the 'trust' experiment, I, too, spoke with theymos and received his blessing to pen this thread.  Roll Eyes

I can't wait for the first announcement that a school is mining. Can you imagine if a school made a coin and got mining rigs for the library and rented them out to students that wanted to earn some extra money.
It would CHANGE the Crypto scene completely. There would be teachers and students from all over the country coming to ask questions.

And, it WILL happen, once a formidable niche, of which I'm developing to get them masses on board comes to fruition. When entities such as schools see it done elsewhere, with an entry learning curve minimized, the skies the limit.

"Shaka, when the walls fell." is no longer an option unless one chooses it to be.

18027  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: heap of alts on: July 02, 2014, 04:52:22 PM
The reason to make a new one is because there is meant to be an ecosystem.

Coins are not there for new people to find and mine, coins are there to trade for one another and support bitcoin.

NEW coins made (by you) are for you and your friends to mine, or for your school to mine, or for your team to mine, or for your WoW clan to mine, or whatever.
Then those coins are to be traded for other coins and used to support Bitcoin [and formidable altcoins].

Hence, developing a whole slew of altcoins, treated as commodities, not currency, specifically for one niche comprised of myriad brands, most all desiring to augment their current revenue stream, with them and their countless followers doing most the sneezing for each individual alt.

No pump-and-dumps. No bots. No other negative attributes contributed to current altcoins, with hopes of not creating new negs in the process.

And, the beauty part of it is that holders of one brand's alts will be willing and able to readily trade for another on one dedicated exchange, with some altcoins breaking out to be traded on one or more of the current venerable exchanges after reaching some threshold, but pulled if they start to underperform, yet will always be available on our niche's exchange unless the notable backing an alt using their brand decides to pull the plug, in which case there'll be literally tens of thousands more altcoins to fill that void.

For you guys having strong opinions on the hundreds of altcoins now, wait till this time next year when you witness thousands, and that's just tickling the surface of what's yet to come, especially when the plan is to send permission-based marketing emails to subscribers consisting of copy akin to...

We bridge Trusted Computing’s broad investment in endpoint security with the explosive promise of digital transactions pioneered by Bitcoin and other valued digital relationships.

Tools and services from Rivetz enable networks, wallet providers, web services and others to bind into the existing security hardware of endpoint devices. Our partners enable an experience which is at once easier to use and far more trustworthy.

Partner with us to realize a more dependable and approachable services network. A billion devices have shipped with built-in security hardware. Millions more are committed in 2015. Rivetz brings years of experience and relationships to see through the transition to a modern network built around the device.

Dear Masterminds,

I feel privileged and honored to be the first to introduce the Hope Gold Coin and The Festival of Hope.

What is the Festival of Hope?

The Festival of Hope is the largest live music and charity event in history.

100 charities globally, will benefit directly, tens of millions will get a hand up not a hand out. Enjoy the music, feel the love , be part of history of the largest charity and live music event. The events will start on Sep. 05,2015

The Festval of Hope is the largest live music and charity event. Just to compare, The Live Aid event (1985) had 16 hours whereas the Festival of Hope has more than 400 hours of live music

The Festival of Hope expects to raise at least 1 Billion US$

What is Hope Gold Coin?

The Hope Gold Coin was born on the Master Protocol – see here

http://www.hopegoldcoin.org/links-2/partners.html

Hope Gold Coin is the overall sponsor of the festival of hope.

HOPE GOLD COIN IS THE MEANS of purchase to support charitable activities around the world.

The HOPE Gold Coin is a totally unique and innovative new crypto-currency with major advantages. It is backed by proven and probable gold reserves, and measured, indicated and inferred gold mineral resources, all validated, confirmed and certified crypto-currency to comply with KYC2 and AML3 policies. It is designed and structured to be a mainstream currency, financial instrument and commodity, and universal unit of exchange and means of purchase to support charitable activities around the world.

The HOPE Gold Coin is a peer-to-peer Internet currency that enables instant, near-zero-cost payments to anyone, anywhere in the world.

The HOPE Gold Coin is safe and uses a secure open source, global payment networking that is fully decentralized without any central authorities. The HOPE Gold Coin features faster transaction confirmation times and greater storage efficiency than leading math-based bitcoin currencies, and will be freely exchangeable into other crypto-currencies or its cash equivalent.

Through innovative minting and release algorithms, the HOPE Gold Coin network consumes far less energy, maintains stronger security and safety, provides higher levels of assurance, and rewards users in more sustainable ways than other crypto-currencies.

The HOPE Gold Coin is a powerful entrant and participant in a disruptive technology that has the potential to transform the global financial services industry. It is unique in its purpose to benefit society and in its ability to raise the standard of living and quality of life for all by actively supporting the aspirational missions of a broad spectrum of charities, foundations and non-profit entities dedicated to addressing universal social, environmental, health, food, economic and similar problems that impact the lives of people worldwide. Through decentralized cryptography, the HOPE Gold Coin eliminates the need for banking intermediaries while significantly lowering transaction costs, potentially liberating poverty stricken economies around the globe by providing access to capital to the one-third of humanity that now has no access to financial services.

Market Opportunity As people grow more open to new ways of paying, there is a rise in the ubiquity and legitimacy of virtual currencies. The most prominent of these currently is Bitcoin, a peer-to-peer digital currency that has been called ‘potentially world-

changing’ by eminent cryptographers. However, Bitcoin’s reputation for price volatility, security questions, and concern for facilitating illicit activities are all issues the Bitcoin community must resolve before cryptographic currencies like Bitcoin can go main stream as universally accepted digital currency. That process is well underway. Virtual currencies like Bitcoin are gaining a real-world presence and prominence as they become more accepted as a unit of exchange and means to purchase. But there is still room for significant improvement, which represents a real opportunity for the HOPE Gold Coin.

With surging interest from prominent investors and growing acceptance from governments, regulators, merchants, customers and the general public, there is a burgeoning market and increasing customer demand for virtual currencies.

This is especially true for a superior, stable, safe and secure crypto-currency that enjoys major points of differentiation and distinct competitive advantages and benefits, that is also freely transferable as a unit of exchange and means to purchase.

There is a much larger potential market for a stable, safe and secure crypto-currency with an intrinsic value backed by gold reserves and resources, and insurable against loss due to theft or negligence that allows more transparent transactions, is freely transferable to other currencies and resistant to radical price fluctuations, as well as

that resolves market and government regulatory concerns about the ramifications and consequences of the myriad illicit and trust related activities benefit directly

Those Rai stones are interesting, and what I find peculiar is how everyone seems to think they "Carved" the stones out of Limestone. In fact, the majority of Large Stone formations like the Pyramids are believed to be carved out of solid rock.

Does this make sense? When Limestone is used to make concrete and can be formed easily?

Look at those Rai stones and the center hole is perfect while many of them are irregular shaped disks. If they were experts at carving stone then why would they make them so imperfect?

It's because they poured the concrete around a pole and it dried.
There is no evidence that they had concrete technology. A center hole is round if you drill.

The stones themselves are the evidence. Concrete is made from Limestone and they quarried the limestone from the islands 400 miles away.

Tell me these don't look like poured concrete slabs:

They don't. Besides, if they had concrete, then where are their ancient roads and office buildings?

Building roads and office building take money and, as you can see, Yap was in short supply of currency, so they invented deflation instead.

Most likely, if the Internet wasn't alive, then it's not a digital currency. Thank you.

But, now that we have the internet, we can develop and promote digital Tally Sticks based on PoW: The more trees cut down, the more TS in circulation. Miners will be replaced with harvesters.

Dear Mr. XXXX,

as you may already be aware we are facing some difficulties to process all the refund requests we have received. With this e-mail we would like, first of all, to apologise for the delays you are facing and to thank you for the patience so far.

Given your position in the refunds processing queue and our cash-flow projections, your refund is expected to be processed about on the first half of September, 2014.

We understand this may be a long time to wait for, as such we would like to give you some alternative options that may be available in shorter time:

1) We may restore your order and send it to you with 100% more hashing power than the original order was. That is, if you ordered 1TH/s, you would get 2TH/s. Shipping would usually take place same day or day after we received confirmation from you, anyway not more than 5-7 days.

2) You may convert the amount we owe you (including the 10% penalty) into hosted mining contracts, which will be available from August 15th. More information is available at http://bitmine.ch/hosted-mining-plans-now-available-starting-1gh/

Let us know if you are interested in exploring either of the alternative options, otherwise we kindly ask you to bear some more patience until your refund is processed.

I am sorry to hear you weren't refunded. On the 27th of may I sent a note with a list of names including yours, reminding I got confirmation that those people received assurance that their payment would arrive within the 30th. On the 30th I sent another note, and only today I received confirmation that some of these people have been paid but for some reason you weren't. You may feel insulted to hear this again, but the only thing I can tell you is to bear some more patience until your payment arrives.

Best regards,

Bitmine AG, Bitmine.ch

Now... Who has been in contact with Swiss lawyers already and could give me some prices and other details?

You people probably forgot that Giorgio and Josh Zipkin of AMT are related (literally), didn't you?

Must be nice to have miners for a 1P mining farm but no miners or refunds for the customers that built their brands. Josh, too, is selling hosting contracts and now has least a factory in China while Gieorgio will get one in Iceland.

Mad yet?

Howdy folks!

Some of you may remember how I lost a lot of BTC by sending it to a scammer who was posing as Spondoolies Tech here on Bitcointalk.  While I will never get those coins back, I wanted to share an update:  Guy from Spondoolies looked into the situation and made a very generous offer to offset a large percentage of the loss.  What kind of company sacrifices their profits on their extremely sought after machines to make a terrible situation better?

Spondoolies does.

While I cannot reveal the exact details I can assure you that it was the kindest thing a company has ever done for me.  They didn't have to do anything at all, as it was my fault for sending the coin to some scammer.  But they helped me tremendously and that kind of compassion for customers is very rare.  When I see how customers are treated by other companies in this market I felt my story had to be told.

I'm so overwhelmed by their kindness that I thought the community should know and I pledge to only buy Spondoolies equipment going forward.

Expectations dramatically exceeded.  Kudos, Guy and Spondoolies-Tech.  You guys are the very best, and I mean that sincerely.

Nice! Apologies for seeing right through this ruse.

The most common spelling is "altcoin." As for the Feathercoin example, yes. Most proof-of-work coins - like BTC - have halving intervals measured in blocks. If you want to create a whole slew of meaningless altcoins, then yeah scrypt is a good way to go. A maximum coin supply over 100M has been done several times, and hasn't proven itself impractical. Dogecoin, for example, has 100 billion maximum coins, as well as built-in inflation which means even more coins. It is possible for a new coin to trade at any rate, one cent, five dollars, etc. Coins are worth whatever someone is willing to pay. Shitcoin developers tend to keep the block reward extremely low, like less than 50 per block, when they want the coin's market value to be high.

Now, this is informative, echoing the same sentiment for TheMage's post between yours and this one. Thanks to both you guys.

Is SCRYPT the way to go if the whole slew of altcoins aren't meaningless, i.e. back by formidable brands?

Of course I, too, desire to the various Altcoins to be successful, as do the brands backing each alt, but feel that the initial block reward should/could be 100 coins. Practical?

Filling in some variables using the same example to help illustrate what's in store:

Feather Coin – Feathercoin
Abbreviation/Ticker Symbol: Up to 6 characters, with no less than 2 with 3 minimum preferred.
Algorithm: SCRYPT (pending)
Date Founded: 4/16/2013
Total Coins: 336 Million 100 Million
Confirm Per Transaction: 4 sounds like a square number.
Re-Target Time: ?
Block Time: 5 Minutes
Block Reward: 100 Coins
Diff Adjustment: Toying with a hybrid based on the exchange rate.

Rarely does a nascent cryptocurrency appear on the scene at the precise time when the problem it touts solving is all the rage by those providing fodder for nearly one third of all Internet users, viz. YouTube viewers.

Allowing YuTübopolis, Inc.'s GAWdiose (think: extinct GAW) YouTube-themed ambitions saved for a future write-up, it's its predominant subsidiary, YuTü.Co.in, designed, in part, to bridge YouTube creators' ongoing coffer-filling gap, currently affected by the Ad-pocalypse thanks to Google. Exactly how is summed up in one Mr. McGuire-esque hyphenated word - crypto-commodities.

<original post below>

Solution: A million plus new alt-coin investors/traders.

Well that would work. But I think, as much as I going to be hated on, there needs to be more Regulation. This market is a scammers heaven.

Would a new exchange suffice? BTW, for what I envision and have in the works, all the current alts won't be trading on it, and there'll be a dedicated forum for just the alts affiliated with the niche.

Our millions of traders will be encouraged to explore/trade the various other alts and Bitcoin, many of whom this would be their first foray into cryptocurrencies. Some of the alts under our Brand (TBA) may even break out and start trading on the conventions exchanges as you currently know them, but we won't be trading any alts not indigenous to our brand no matter how popular they are, e.g. Litecoin or Doge.

Is it possible for an new alt to start trading at one cent (US penny/$.01/1¢)?
