1901  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Tokens (Altcoins) / Re: Mining Bitcoin on your phone using the Ethereum Network on: December 05, 2022, 05:27:28 AM
So what is this exactly? Some form of decentralized mining contracts like we had back in 2015? I remember many got suckered into those lifetime 1th/s mining contracts only later to learn that when the maintainance cost is greater than the profit the contract is void.

This sounds awfully similar.  I didn’t click the links because don’t want malware and don’t plan on buying these asic tokens.
1902  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Can crypto exchagnes regain users trust with PoR? on: December 05, 2022, 05:23:02 AM
Like kraken ceo said multiple times. Proof of reserves is useless without proof of liabilities. This would make any exchange even FTX look solvent when you see they got $1b in reserves but have $10b in liabilities.

There are some exchanges such as kraken and Bitmex which actually have the proof of liabilities also shown and this is vital. I think moving forward many customers will be asking for this info when using a crypto exchange.
1903  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Someone sent ERC20 from my cold storage on: December 05, 2022, 05:19:25 AM
Thanks for posting that article. It all makes sense now.

I am really surprised that etherscan makes the transaction appear out of my wallet. And I also found it very odd that the destination address of mine was very similar with the first and last characters identical.

Crazy how so far they gained almost $2M cheating people this way.
1904  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Someone sent ERC20 from my cold storage on: December 04, 2022, 05:14:03 PM
This is not my address but its a similar transaction.

https://etherscan.io/address/0xf5e3bf94664763949ba3b1bd20436cd90de18d07#tokentxns

This individual sent 4000 USDT to 0x362e9b95907f88eafa33bb519c7046a32d3fb887

Then a few minutes later a 0 USDT transaction went to a similar address 0x361c73a3943094fba350f505f5506def77efb887

The last few characters are similar and first 2 are the same "0x36".

Anyone know why this is happening?

Obviously its not the address holders doing this transaction. Basically sent 0 USDT and 0 USDC to different addresses? Anyone know why this is happening?

The transaction doing this is
https://etherscan.io/tx/0xa7d38a04485864e7c4481d8258f0cc9bea335bf38d61cfaa37ae8b6c0c8d72b9

Anyone know why they are doing this? Seems to be wasting fees. Is it just an etherscan bug?

I know that it didn't come out of my actual address because the next nonce doesn't include this transaction, which means it never came out of my wallet.
1905  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Shall we create a small chat room to communicate? on: December 04, 2022, 05:55:50 AM
We already have a discord server and many just prefer the website itself.

There are already tons and tons of discord and slack servers for many crypto projects or basic crypto trading. And honestly if you ever been inside one of those servers you will see how many scams are
Going around. Basically people PM you and trying to get your seed to steal your funds. Don’t think we need more of that.
1906  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bahamas Govt. Ordered FTX to Transferred Funds to Government Wallet on: December 04, 2022, 05:51:36 AM
Sbf claimed many times that FTX USA is solvent and so is FTX Japan. However this is catch 22. Those two entities might be solvent. However if they pay out everyone then the people who got funds trapped into FTX intl will get less.

Since he included FTX us in the bankruptcy it seems that he closed that door of making everyone whole at FTX US. And the pie is going to have to be split even thinner between all the users who had a balance at the time of bankruptcy.
1907  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Anyone buying Aptos already? on: December 04, 2022, 05:47:39 AM
Aptos, like Serum and Solana and many of the other projects belonging to FTX you really gotta be careful investing, especially long term.

These are going to always have that feeling of “liquidator forced to dump tokens to pay off creditors” and many will be scared to invest. Especially since these are all considered small cap pretty much, except SOL.

So I would avoid this token.
1908  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Learning how to code in order to automate trading strategies, is it worth? on: December 03, 2022, 05:04:09 AM
Depending on what exchange you use, there are strategies with some where you can set a certain parameter such as when price >5% on the day and when volume is 5x the average to sell or buy. Nothing really complicated.

Keep in mind one thing. It’s easier and seems profitable when you are back testing but if you run it’s in real time your results might be different due to slippage and liquidity issues. You might not get the desired fills you want when in a backtest you would. Not perfect results.
1909  Economy / Economics / Re: American EVs reduced gasoline consumption by just 0.54% in 2021 on: December 03, 2022, 04:59:31 AM
Another issue with ev is when their batteries can no longer hold charge or if they get damaged in any way, there is a huge repair bill and it’s not sustainable. Even with cars like the Chevy bolt which are cheaper.

For a model 3 the new battery is somewhere like $15K. And it’s needs to be new. Replacing one battery cell doesn’t always work. And most likely the battery prices will increase in the near future. MSRP was originally like $30k for model 3 and the battery is more than half the price.

1910  Economy / Economics / Re: The U.S. Needs More Housing Than Almost Anyone Can Imagine on: December 03, 2022, 04:52:22 AM
It’s not only in the states it’s also in many developed countries like Canada. In some Canadian cities you can be a doctor or lawyer and you cannot afford to buy a house because that’s how expensive they are.

Many of this has to do with immigration and lots to do with development regulation and grants. There is a lot of land out there to build houses and many workers but developers are on purpose slowing down building to keep costs high and in the end many will leave these cities for ones with lower costs of living.
1911  Economy / Economics / Re: Somebody’s been on a gold-buying bender. It’s not clear who — or why. on: December 03, 2022, 04:49:48 AM
Isn’t it going up because it’s mostly correlated lately with the stock market?

Many assumed that as the stocks went down, people would move into gold and it wasn’t the case. Then when bond yields peaked stocks and gold have started to reverse hence both are hitting daily highs for the past couple of months.
1912  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin bottom prediction? on: December 02, 2022, 06:45:22 PM
Don't post publicy how much bitcoins you own. Whether its very little or not. You can easily become a target.

Like others in this thread. Nobody knows how low it will go. Will it go to $12K? Who knows. You are better off buying little by little weekly and you get a good average in. If you wait for $12K and it never comes, then you will miss the train.

If you buy little by little you will get a decent average at least.
1913  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Is the HDD mining hype over? on: December 02, 2022, 06:43:30 PM
ETH main net launched I think in Aug 2015 and when it launched it pumped hard for a couple of weeks, miners made lots of money. However then it started to die off. I don't remember what the price was but towards the end of the year, I think with a R9 280X GPU (top mining gpu at the time) you made like 1 ETH per day per 280X.

However it seemed like great profits but it was mostly mining at a loss. I think ETH briefly dipped below $1 a coin when all the IPO people dumped their coins. However later it started to recover and in early 2016, it became more profitable than BTC ASIC mining... and the rest is history.
1914  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: How to earn 9-10% APY using USDT and a simple strategy on: December 02, 2022, 05:02:50 AM
I think after everything happened this year, people are done earning yield. Most will rather keep it in a savings account than risk 100% of their money for a tiny yield.

Only yield that i would consider safe is if you sold the futures contract and bought it with the underlying. Kept the min margin and let it expire. However this won’t happen until another bull run starts.
1915  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Im trader i recently just noticed btctalk forum here what i think Also FTX Im wo on: December 02, 2022, 04:58:03 AM
One word for all this useless forest of words.

Gibberish!

I read it once, I read it twice and honestly it’s hard to tell if he is trying to be funny, it’s a big joke or the combination of very bad English.

Either way. This was written a few weeks back, when it looked like “maybe FTX could be saved” however now the Line is in the sand and they are definitely gone for good.
1916  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: What if Grayscale had to sell all 643,572 bitcoins it has? Let's speculate. on: December 02, 2022, 04:55:09 AM
This was already discussed last week. They won’t liquidate GBTC. It’s a golden goose for them. They get 2% in fees every year. All this money for doing pretty much nothing. Why get rid of it? No point.

They will just let their other company go into bankruptcy and keep GBTC going. Sure many on Gemini earn will be screwed but don’t they really care about that. If anything most people are blaming Gemini exchange itself.
1917  Economy / Economics / Re: FTX Drama and Global Empact on: December 01, 2022, 10:01:05 PM
I am listening to all these interviews with SBF and honestly I can't believe a word of what is coming out of his mouth. He thinks he can say "Oh, I screwed up", and "Oh, Im sorry". He thinks he can get off scott free. Doesn't work like that.

I have no idea why he is still walking around and not arrested. Shows you how corrupt everything is behind his. Especially all those authorities in the Bahamas. Can get away with anything there pretty much as long as you have money it seems. Madoff got arrested immediately.
1918  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bahamas Govt. Ordered FTX to Transferred Funds to Government Wallet on: December 01, 2022, 07:56:03 PM
So how is this going to work exactly.

FTX US has a bankruptcy hearing in USA.
FTX Intl has a bankruptcy hearing in Bahamas.
FTX Japan in Japan
FTX Australia in Australia.

However how do they split the money exactly? They had horrible accounting. How can they tell which money belongs to which country? Seems impossible to address. This is why I am confused why they have all these hearings everywhere.
1919  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Is the HDD mining hype over? on: December 01, 2022, 07:52:51 PM
I heard about mining BURST in 2016 and some of my friends made good money mining this coin. But I tried to mine only on video cards because of the large number of coins for mining. The advantages of mining on HDD are only in very low power consumption and a good opportunity for a hobby.

From what I recall, back in 2015 we were in a GPU and ASIC bear market. Unless you had very cheap power, you were barely making anything. So Burst was gaining popularity. However the issue was that the price for the coin was very low.

Later on it ended up spiking and would of made good profits for every HDD miner that held. However if you mined and sold your coins at the end of the week, the profits weren't that great.
1920  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Why everybody is panicking ? Its a game of greed and fear ! on: November 30, 2022, 09:44:07 PM
People are not only panicking about the price going down. People are panicking because it seems like this entire industry is a big ponzi where large exchanges are lending peoples savings and only gambling with those funds and losing them. Quadriga did this a few years back.

It left a real sour taste and people are just sick of it and people are selling all their crypto and getting out. They saw how the Dow is only 6% down from ATH and they are most likely going to invest in the stock market where they don't need to worry about having all their funds disappear.
