1981  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Fake Google Sheets Extension - Scammed on: August 07, 2022, 11:37:46 PM
Thank you for the warning OP. I would've never suspected the Google sheet extension to be the malware responsible for changing addresses.
btw, if an extension is grayed out doesn't that mean it's been disabled by the navigator?
This malware seems more dangerous even than the clipboard hijacker malware because it changes the actual address from source and therefore there is no way you would suspect it's been changed.

I would wipe out my computer's hard drive and reinstall the OS if I were you, though!
1982  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Newbie! Protect your name, it is your brand on: August 07, 2022, 10:52:37 PM
This forum has no policy on name selection. This means that prospective members are free to choose any name they want in the course of registration.
This is not totally accurate. There are some reserved words you can't include in your username when registering a new account. Some of those words are "Satoshi", "theymos", "bitcointalk" and probably all staff usernames. Obviously this restriction exists to prevent impersonation attacks.

Username can be changed by
  • Yourself if you are the VIP member with 50 BTC donated to the forum. You can do it by yourself.
  • Admin
I just want to add that staff members can change their display names (not usernames) and probably many members do not know that there is a difference between the two.
1983  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Price at time of transaction? on: August 07, 2022, 10:15:45 PM
Most block explorers do that.
I personally use mempool.space (for its ease of use). It just display the values in btc by default. To see the transacted amounts in usd just click/tap on the amount field and it will display the USD value.
Blockchain.com explorer works the same way but I do not recommend using it.
1984  Economy / Gambling / Re: Casino Game on: August 07, 2022, 09:14:03 PM
^^
Usually, scam casinos lure players into signing up and making deposits on their platforms by offering huge bonuses. They won't mind doing that because they have no plan to let you withdraw anyway so they are not losing anything after all.
Offering huge and different bonuses with soft requirements is a big red flag in itself especially if the casino is still new and has no reputation.
1985  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Japanese Animation Slot Machines on: August 07, 2022, 07:51:12 PM
According to the short video on the first link, it look like a classic three reel slot machine. It's only instead of pulling the arm or pushing a button (as you do on classic machines), in this one you have to tap with your finger on the touchscreen to spin the reels. Those cartoon images and animation are there just to make the game funnier and more interactive and I don't believe they affect in anyway the outcome of the game.
1986  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Martingale Betting Strategy on BlackJack, how effective it is? on: August 07, 2022, 06:20:58 PM
In theory, the martingale strategy will work for any game where there is a chance of winning. Be it blackjack or any other game, the concept is the same. Every time you lose you double the bet till you hit a win and recover your previous losses plus your initial bet.
But in practice things are totally different. As mentioned in the article you quoted, you may hit a long losing streak which may drain your wallet and the remaining balance will not be enough to place a new bet.
1987  Local / العربية (Arabic) / Re: معلومات حول البطاقة الافتراضية PYYPL on: August 06, 2022, 11:42:35 PM
1988  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: I don't understand the seed management on Electrum on: August 06, 2022, 11:21:32 PM
There is software that allows you to brute-force this kind of manipulation. I've never tried it, for fear of a virus, but even if they are surely "safe", is it possible that a software finds my seed?
It depends on how much you remember from your seed. If only few words are missing (like 3 or 4 words) and you know their exact position, then recovering the seed using a good tool is possible. The more you remember the faster the tool will find your seed. Once it finds it, you can use it to recover your wallet and you will have full access to your coins.

I've seen many reputable members recommending BTCRecover, so I believe it's safe.
1989  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: From hot to cold storage on: August 06, 2022, 10:37:09 PM
It is still a hot wallet if you just generate your wallet while your laptop or Macbook is connected to the internet and just recently turn the internet off or are you trying to import the same backup seed phrase/private key into other devices which is offline.
I think it's the latter. But it doesn't change much since in both cases the wallet was created on an online device and you, simply, can't turn a hot wallet into a cold storage wallet.

OP, is there any reason why you need to keep using the same seed/private keys? If. It's because you are expecting to receive more funds on the old wallet, then the only thing you can do is to contact all those who have your old addresses and update them with the new ones (from the cold wallet). In the meantime, keep monitoring your old wallet and manually transfer any coins it receives to the cold wallet.
1990  Economy / Gambling / Re: Roobet.com | Crypto’s Fastest Growing Casino 🦘 on: August 06, 2022, 08:57:57 PM
I have met with someone who won 6 million dollars from another place, which I will not name, and didn't do a bit of KYC at all, from 300k to 6 million so he wasn't poor to begin with, all the points for a money laundering but it wasn't asked. So, do not defend it with just money, this place asks it even before you start.
Sorry to ask, but is this other place (I assume it's a casino) licensed!? Because as far as I know any regulated and licensed business has to declare and report transactions above a certain threshold (depending on the license provider and the county where the casino operates).
The good thing about Roobet, though, is that they ask for kyc (level-1) from the moment you create an account and don't wait till you make a withdrawal request as many other casinos do.

I believe all this discussion about kyc is futile and won't change anything. So if someone isn't OK with verifying his identity then simply play on casinos which do not ask for it.
1991  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Man Collapses after Allegedly Losing a $400 Loan at a Betting Shop on: August 06, 2022, 07:30:35 PM
When I first saw the news on online news platforms, I was laughing out loud at his insanity. I wonder what makes people think that they can make good abundance out of online betting...

Bet9ja has done so much harm to our youths. It's disheartened to see how millions of people partake in online betting with their last dime.
Personally, I feel sorry for him. He made a mistake by gambling with money he borrowed (money he can't afford to lose). Obviously he either has gambling problems or was totally desperate and had no other way to earn money. I can't laugh at someone else's misfortune although we all know what he did was stupid.
And I don't think Bet9ja or any other casino is to blame here. They are a for-profit business and they make profit from the losses of their customers.
1992  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Problem with Freebitco.in Provably Fair Engine on: August 05, 2022, 11:59:30 PM
Was you friend playing with random high and low?

I would recommend to play always high or always low.
As long as the multiplier remains the same,  your odds of winning/losing remain the same. It doesn't matter if you bet always on high or low or change it randomly.

And for the hi-lo game what you say can't work because the house can't know if you will choose HI or LO at your next roll.
Am not sure about this! Some gamblers follow predictable patterns when placing bets or use well known strategies (martingale). Am not saying freebitcoin.in are doing this, but analysing the user's gameplay may give the casino an idea on what's the player's next bet is going to be.
What I don't get is why they need to change the server seed for each new bet! Given the reputation of freebitcoin.in, am sure there is a good reason for this.
1993  Economy / Gambling / Re: Vulnerabilities in gambling websites in past on: August 05, 2022, 11:23:34 PM
sometimes other casinos have issues regarding transaction confirmation taking too long.
In some rare cases, slow transactions may be caused by a bug in the casino's payment system (ex. inaccurate fee estimator) but in most cases this happens simply because the casino has bad services. It's not really a vulnerability which may be exploited to compromise the security of the platform (ie.steal customers' funds and/or data).

...
Despite its importance, most casinos - especially New ones- do not invest too much (if ever) in the security of their platforms. They do not conduct security audits or have any bug bounty programs. This is why we see new casinos get hacked all the time.
1994  Economy / Gambling / Re: Olimp.com - Lifetime 5% Crypto Deposit Bonus - Betting and Casino on: August 05, 2022, 10:52:36 PM
The platform have got its own application and it isn't available on the Play Store.
Am also wondering why the app is not available on the play/app store! I took the risk and downloaded the .apk file directly from the website but am sure most users will be reluctant to do the same although scanning it with virustotal says it's clean.
The website is well customized for mobile browsers. So, downloading the app is not really necessary.
They also have a Telegram bot but it's only in Russian language. It would be good if they make it available in other languages (mainly English).

1998  Economy / Gambling / Re: BETS.IO Casino Up to 20% Cashback Every Day | 10-Minute Cashout | No KYC on: August 01, 2022, 08:59:04 PM
The prize pool is really huge! But just to be clear: by saying "Each week, €31,250 will be contested among the most
active gamblers" you mean the more you play the higher your chances to win a prize but even if you don't play much you still have a chance to win, right! Otherwise, saying there are no points or leaderboards won't make sense.
I like this kind of contests and promos where every player has a chance to win, not only high rollers. My only concern is how winners are going to be drawn! Can this be done in a trustless way?
1999  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Here is why they say to store your seed "offline" on: August 01, 2022, 08:23:45 PM
It doesn't matter how reliable and trustworthy the storage service provider is, storing your wallet files/seeds/private keys (even encrypted) on someone else's computer/server is not the right way to store a back up of your wallet.

Any online service, be it free or paid, be it some tiny provider no one has heard of or some global giant like Google or Amazon, be it cloud storage or an email account, can close your account or lose or delete your data at any time for any reason and without warning
So true! (personal experience)
I sent some of my wallets seeds to my Yahoo email address. After a year of inactivity they deleted all my emails and there is no way to recover them! And am sure more than 90% of Yahoo users aren't aware of this so-called feature.
2000  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: $50,000 Dollar theft by the fraud company localbitcoins.com on: August 01, 2022, 07:07:48 PM
$50k is not a small amount. So if you are certain you didn't violate any of their terms of service then you should hire a lawyer and sue them.
Any company should explain why they had to ban a customer so he knows what he did wrong. And even if the customer has violated their terms, this doesn't give them the right to seize his money. They can ban his account and prevent him from using any of their services in the future but they have to send him back the money he deposited. Otherwise, this is a pure robbery. Just my two sats!
