21  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [STJ] STORJ Token Sale :: 19th May - 19th June on: May 23, 2017, 05:18:03 PM
The meter was calculating based on the floating price of Bitcoin, instead of at time of purchase.  So it looked like more money was spent than there actually was.  They applied a temporary fix yesterday, and are applying a permanent fix today.  So it now properly shows the correct amount based on time of purchase.
22  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Storj - Decentralized Storage on: May 23, 2017, 01:25:51 AM

What do you mean? like removing off people who submitted payments improperly and lost their coins? cause fi that was the case storj would still receive their coins , they just wouldnt get thestorj token, there is no reason whatsoever that the amount fundraised should have lowered while bitcoin was currently rising in value unless storj was faking numbers allowing the ico to run longer than cap intended

The numbers should reflect the price of the coin at time of sale.  They were not.   They applied a fix, so that it is correct.

Its really impressive that you guys have taken just a few days and those days are mostly not working to days to almost get to your goals, I want to know if you are going to continue after hitting the desired amount.

When 30 million has been reached, the sale will end.
24  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Storjcoin X (SJCX) - A Coin for Decentralized Cloud Storage on: May 22, 2017, 10:06:04 PM
Storjcoin is used to pay farmers, and to buy storage.  You can also buy storage with Bitcoin and USD via credit card.

Storjcoin will also be used as part of smart contracts in the future, details are currently not available.

The transfer problem has to do with the Bitcoin transactions being backed up.  This is because Counterparty uses the Bitcoin block chain.  And Storjcoin uses Counterparty.   This is one reason why they are switching to the Ethereum block chain, so transactions are more immediate.

What is about the collaboration with Microsoft?
Converting old coin to the new one, is a potentially good thing or a bad thing for investor?
The coin will be released on poloniex but is already on poloniex and bittrex, why bring new ico, what happen with the older ico?
What If the demand for storage is not so great and there won't be many prosperous farmers?
How did presale gather this sum of over 15 milion in such short period?
Why would take up to 4 weeks to release the new takes if there is already the token in the market?
Why needed a new ico for the same product?

Collaboration with Microsoft?  I have no idea what you're talking about.

Converting old coin to new one.  It will be a simple process of sending your coins to an official website, and getting an equal number of new coins back to your wallet address.   The old coins used the Bitcoin blockchain (Counterparty) and the new ones will use the Ethereum blockchain.

Why bring new ico?  Storj was switching to the Ethereum blockchain instead of the Bitcoin blockchain to speed transactions and reduce fees.  It made sense to also do another coin sale round.  They did not create more coins.  They have held the majority of coins and decided to sell and burn an equal portion during the sale.

What if the demand for storage is not so great?  Well, that's a question you can apply to any business.  What if nobody needs to buy bricks any more?  What happens to the Brick maker?   I can't answer that.

How did they handle the presale?  It was announced months in advance.  It was laid out in various blog postings.  It was public the entire time.  Anyone could have participated if they met the minimum threshold.

Why will it take 4 weeks?  It will take until the end of the sale.  So if you bought your coins on the first day, you have to wait until at least the end of the sale, so everyone gets their coins at around the same time.

Why a new ICO?  Funding to help the project.  They control the majority of coins because the first ICO didn't sell that well.  (Unfortunate because the price then was 22 cents a coin, and now it's 50 cents)  So because they are switching coin back ends, they are having another sale from the same coin supply.  New coins were not created.

Project and tech is very interesting but I don't get one thing: storj tokens are not needed to use the service you offer, since you accept fiat payments via credit cards and whatnot (which is a good thing by itself to make this service accessible to the wider public possible), so how is the predicted increased demand going to drive the token value up? Tokens are not even paying out dividends based on fees revenue so what's in for backers other than pure speculation?
If it's only speculation I'd rather just hold bitcoin or eth or whatever, and use your storage service as a normal user rather than an investor.

Maybe I missed something. If you can better clarify, thx.

Ok, so I'm only talking about how Storj can be used to grow the coin.  I'm not going to list off all the potential negatives.  There are plenty of people around who can do that for us.

Storj Labs will (and has) pay farmers (Those who sell their harddrive space) in STORJ, the new Ethereum token, every month.  Some Farmers will cash out so they can pay their bills.  But many farmers will hold their coins, for whatever reason.  Rainy day.  They believe it will go up in value.  They aren't paying attention.  Whatever...  In normal mining, some miners cash out, and some hold.  Same thing here.  Storj also uses the coins to pay for rewards for various things.

The amount of coins is fixed.  Nobody is mining STORJ.  Once Storj Labs runs out of their own coins (This could take awhile), they will buy them from the market.  That creates demand for the STORJ coin, if by only one entity, that being Storj Labs, it would be coins bought every month, regardless of market conditions.  They have to pay their farmers, and they pay them in STORJ.  And the amount they pay grows every month as more people join to sell their harddrive space.

Imagine if instead of Bitcoin miners getting new bitcoins from out of thin air, that the Bitcoin Foundation had to buy the coins off the exchange in order to pay the miners who earned a reward.  How would that impact the price?

In addition, Storj Labs intends to use the STORJ token for smart contracts.  Details to be announced in the future.

And of course, as you mentioned, people can buy storage with their STORJ coins.

Couple that with the usual speculation, and trader scenarios, and it has a lot of room to grow in value.  But like anything, it could also become worthless if an asteroid smashes into Atlanta.   You have to weigh the risks and make choices that make sense to you.

Very cool.

I noticed this on the tokensale page as well...

* The token distribution will be determined at the currency exchange rate that is effective at the time of the payment. The currency exchange rate cannot be guaranteed.

Not including the presale, yes.

Have we a scam now? CEO leave, No Payout and all channel readonly and locked? What's going on?

No.

CEO didn't leave.
Renters were sent payment, but bitcoin transactions are backed up.
And the channels are ready only and locked because of scam bots that people are using to flood the channels with false payment addresses during the token sale.
32  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Storj - Decentralized Storage on: May 19, 2017, 03:10:18 PM
existing SJCX holders will be allowed to swap their Counterparty-based tokens to Ethereum-based SJCX. [/b]

This is not the migration.  This is just the coin sale.

Sia is a good product.  They are just different products.  They both archive data, but they have different use scenarios.

As for Storj, AFAIK the upload/download GUI is not coming out today, this week, or likely next week.  It IS coming out, and is being debugged and tested right now.  But it is not imminent for release.

The Storjshare-GUI is going to be released, probably this week, maybe next week.  This is the new graphical user interface for the Farmer who rents his storage out.

Storj has a lot of things coming down the pipe.  Stay tuned to the #announcements channel on the rocket chat https://community.storj.io

any news on the dwitch to eth... i hope it is at first month so we can have time to change payout address for sharing and maybe wr can get a stand alone wallet that has allet and share all in one.

There will be an announcement and a plan as to who, what, where, when, how.  We already had the "why" document.

I would recommend looking into Ethereum wallets in the meantime.  In case you need to sync a blockchain.
39  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Who is Satoshi Nakamoto? on: April 11, 2017, 08:24:46 PM
It might be Nash.  Unfortunately it is impossible to know without proof.  Right now it is just circumstantial evidence.

I used to think it was a basket of people, but I've changed my mind.  Such a secret would be difficult for one person to keep to themselves, let alone a group of people.  Greed would cause at least one of them to demand part of the money that has grown since creation.  And one of them would surely tell a spouse during pillow talk.  In my opinion, one person makes the most sense.  It's either someone who is dead, or someone who had no need for the money, or one of those guys who just thought, "I am done here" and erased everything and the keys to the fortune are gone.

Bitcoin doesn't need Satoshi, but it would be nice to know who Satoshi is/was.  It would, at the very least, remove suspicion around the people who aren't Satoshi but people think they are.

In the meantime, I'll check to see if the Nash family is having an estate sale.  Maybe some old hard drives are up for grabs.  With a sticker on them that reads, "25 cents or best offer."

We don't know.  But you will likely need to send your existing coins to some address, and then get new coins issued to a different address.  Because this isn't a fork, but an actual exchange of coins, so I'd assume that it's a deposit/withdrawal type of situation.
