Issues with ethminer error stops working.
Windows say it is running low on memory. I have set virtual memory to 16GB I'm not sure what is going on.
Windows 10
8 1070s

What is your actual value you put in for the virtual memory box?  I would assume you put in 16000 first of all correct?  Also you can run the taskmanager to see what apps are taking up memory on your system.  Hopefully you have more than 4 gigs of memory as well.  Check what other programs are being launched at start up and disable them to get more memory back.. etc..
22  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: ETH Difficulty +11% in less than 24 hours. on: June 20, 2017, 10:30:19 PM
Holy carp 11%+ in one go!

It would be logical to assume at this point an ASIC, there are and will be other future dagger coins, even once ETH goes PoS

Crazy times gentlemen, think ill stop buying ti's for a while see where mining goes in next 30 days or so, thx for the info man!

EDIT: Sorry was late to the game posting, and as many people have said, its not ASIC..

Original:

Not sure about ASIC since it takes a lot of development time, resources and money.  It doesn't *seem* to make sense since at some
point ETC will go to POS, granted starting out at %1 but will go over time, making miners obsolete at some point.  (still down the road).

However anything is possible Smiley

i would argue you never once mentioned "Dagger".  it's like the sole reasoning it wouldn't happen is ETH/ETC are the only coins to mine if one had an asic?
There will be coins we dont even KNOW of yet that use dagger and are huge, some would say Ubiq and Musiccoin could be long term right NOW even
There's no doubt to me a dagger ASIC would be profitable, at this point they could even tap out a batch of chips i bet .

Course, yes, us little guys its all speculation, "anything IS possible" Smiley

Dagger Hashimoto is memory-hard, which means that ASIC and FPGA gain no advantage because everyone is limited by the speed of RAM.

Because the primary determinant of hardness is memory, and not computation, specialized hardware has only a tiny advantage; even an optimal Dagger mining ASIC would have little to offer over a hobbyist purchasing hundreds of gigabytes of memory cards off the shelf and plugging them into a medium-power GPU.

Why is it better to use this then using nice hash?

Personal preference.  Try out the miners you like and some can mine the best coins and pay out in BTC (nice hash), others like this allow you to define ETH/ETC and a separate alt coin (see first page of this thread).  One thing to also watch out for
depending on miners are the devfees with Claymore ETH only its 1% and dual coin mining is 2%..   If you single mine you mine for me 36 seconds every hour, if you dual mine you mine for me for 72 seconds every hour.  So the developer gets that much time to mine shares with your machine.  If you do the math thats a lot of money to the dev Smiley Again, choose what you think is best for your own needs.

Anyone? It seems to have gotten worse in the last few updates..
26  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: is it worth to build a rig as etherium POS so close ? on: June 16, 2017, 05:51:51 PM
According to this http://www.coindesk.com/ethereums-big-switch-the-new-roadmap-to-proof-of-stake/

POS intruduced with Casper will be rolled out as gradual, every 100th block or so will be "mined" with it only, so it seems they will take careful path there.

This is true you can still mine ETH during this slow roll out to POS, or you could mine ETC or Zcash..

Anyone seeing more open cl errors with the last few releases ?

I have my robot option enable but 9 out of 10 times it hangs during dag creation.. anyone else experiencing this as well?
28  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Claymore's Dual Ethereum AMD+NVIDIA GPU Miner v9.5 (Windows/Linux) on: June 16, 2017, 05:45:22 PM
Time to sell out??

I brought a RX470 a few months ago for AU$270.. now looking online all cards that are good for mining are sold out everywhere.  and now RX470 cards are selling for around AU$350 on ebay.  I'm trying to judge the perfect time to sell the GPU and just use that money to buy Ethereum.

If I sell the card now I could buy 0.8 ethereum, which would otherwise take 3 months to mine and after 3 months the difficulty would be such that the card is pretty useless anyway..  check the calc here: http://www.mycryptobuddy.com/EthereumMiningCalculator

For my XFX RX470 I have set to underclock and undervolt to 0.86v which reduced the power from 80w to 65w.   Currently getting 22Mh/s

Also configured to run on task scheduler with windows startup since windows updates kept stopping my miner.  Guide here: https://www.stephenmann.net/ethereum-mining

Why not mine ETC instead ?  The difficulty isn't that high yet? It's slowly going up in price.
29  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: How to reboot a rig if it stops mining? on: June 15, 2017, 07:54:26 PM
I'm also having a lot of issues lately, the rig ran fine for days, and lately its been getting the open gl gpu hang issue.

I tried a few things..

I created a reboot script that calls another script which then launches the miner but for some reason while relaunching the miner it gets stuck on creating a dag for one.

Im slowly adjusting the cards but they ran fine for days.. Here is a bit of my config also which Im tweaking.. its becoming pretty annoying.  I wish someone had a program to watch this and kill it properly , wait then relaunch.  I see the
script above but not i'm going that route yet.

reboot.bat file

Code:
timeout 5 > NUL
start c:\<path to your claymore folder>\Claymore\"reboot-miner.bat"
exit 0

reboot-miner.bat

Code:
taskkill /IM EthDcrMiner64.exe /F
timeout 15 > NUL
start c:\<path to your claymore folder>\Claymore\"start-classic.bat"
exit 0

Here making sure that the miner is killed and with the /F its forced along with a 15 second timeout.

Issues can be that when this happens it kills the miner but 9 out of 10 times its stuck at creating the dag.  I'm assuming some gpu memory or driver hasnt reset yet.

also the reboot.bat command prompt doesn't close even though exit 0 is added to it.. any thoughts?

Here are some config vars I'm using

Code:
EthDcrMiner64.exe -wd 0 -mport 0 -r 1 -dcri 26 -tt 70 -eres 0

Testing now with: wd 0 to at least not restart the miner and get stuck, until I can figure out how to properly reset everything and not have it hang on restart with dag creation.

-r 1 calls the reboot.bat file
-dcri value I also play with.

temps are fine

I'm also going to test using -ethi 6 which the default is 8.

Anyone have any other thoughts or suggestions? I'm using the latest miner, I'm sure Claymore is aware of this and it would be good to fix the hanging miner restart ..

Cheers!

I'm doing ETC/DCR and ETH/SIA of course with 2 rigs!
31  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Will ETH mining difficulty come down? on: June 10, 2017, 12:08:38 AM
What do you think is going to happen to the other coins when the 19 million cards mining ETH all of a sudden need to find something new to mine?

Um thats kinda obvious, every that can be gpu mined will have an increase in difficulty.  Grin

Hence why I have 2 rigs one mining ETH and one doing ETC which has a super low difficulty right now.

32  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Will ETH mining difficulty come down? on: June 09, 2017, 11:59:30 PM
Most likely the price will go down far enough to make it very unprofitable rather than POS finally going live.

That and the huge linear difficulty increase we get everyday.

POS is the least of our worries.

I think POS may just kill ETH.. but who knows..
33  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Will ETH mining difficulty come down? on: June 09, 2017, 10:46:12 PM
You can see how much the difficulty has risen over the past month or so here.

Look at the last month and its gone from 370 to 656 (as of the time of this writing) thats a change of 286.

One of my rigs which gets around 171 MH/s generates about .2 ETH every 38-45 hours give or take.  At the current price of $279 is about $55.80 for every .2 ETH I'm generating now minus power, this also doesn't include Decred which is rising in price and helps pay any power.

When ETH changes to POS and makes mining for ETC obsolete you can always go to other coins.  I believe we will see the price of ETH sink, as to how far who knows.

You also have the option to mine ETC which current difficulty on another rig doing around my same hash rate as my ETH (171) I'm pulling in 1 - 2 coins a dayish.  However ETC has been stuck at the price of $17 for some time now and who knows if we will see it go up. Difficulty change in the last month for ETC has only increased by 15.

I'm sure we can do the math if you mine ETC, lets say 1.5 coins a day running at around 170MH/s at the price of $17 would be around $765 plus any bonus money from Decred after power is paid, which then you could by some ETH if you wanted to with it, or hope that ETC's adoption and price goes up.

Its all a game you need to figure out yourself.

However if your thinking ETH difficulty will go down, I have to say its only going to get higher as people can get their hands on more GPU's (prob another big wave of them in July) until you cant mine ETH anymore due to switch to POS.

Enjoy it while it lasts!
34  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: New NVIDIA GPU Mining Chipset NV P106-100...which model? on: June 08, 2017, 11:23:57 PM
Ethereum will go pos is 6 months. then you are left with cryptonight @ 550h/s

My private kernel is doing 600h/s on the 1060 3gb. Much cheaper and with 2-3 years warranty in the EU.

regarding pos which means nvidia also have only few months to push sales on this GPU and then if pos
happen only have few options for miner to mine. 3 month warranty is just too short lol...2-3 years is better.

You do realize you can mine other coins with gpu rigs Smiley A lot of people have stopped doing ETH in favor of ETC or other coins.

Anyone having issues when the miner reboots due to a GPU having an open cl issue?

From time to time this happens and when the miner is restarted automatically its stuck at doing dags or something and never gets mining again..

After my last reboot my last log file was this and it never moved forward.

@Claymore is their a way for it to completely kill the window and wait a few secs before launching again.  I believe on some hangs this would help out.

How about letting people run their own private severs?  Attacks will always happen esp in this industry.

Is this mainly node.js? If so it would be easy to get this up and running on heroku with Postgres or gcloud as a docker images.  If your using LAMP I would suggest moving to LEMP , nginx can handle a lot more data and is much more efficient than apache if configured properly ..

Thoughts ?

maybe i need to thinking in a self hosted version. or a backup server what sync in the main server, im working on tge best solution.

i tested nginx with fpm, hard to say what better. apche with rate limiter at server and dns side can do the trick.

If you need any help I have been a sever stack and web developer/designer for almost 12 years..

I know we have the ability to restart the miner with -r values however if a gpu goes to 0 for a while and doesn't throw a error it will not restart .. any ideas on this or how we could get the feature to restart if a gpu is 0 for x time then restart?
39  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Claymore's Dual Ethereum AMD+NVIDIA GPU Miner v9.4 (Windows/Linux) on: June 03, 2017, 05:35:02 PM
With the ability to mine alt coins such as Decred/Siacoin/Lbry/Pascal with claymore, it would be awesome if we could alternate between them.. for example maybe in the config the ability to add in all the alt pools then -coinname <time> where time is the amount of time to mine this coin before switching to the next..

So something like -decred 120 -pascal 60 etc

So mine dcr for 2hrs and then mine pascal for 60, then back to decred..

Thoughts ?

Any reason on dual claymore etc - decred that the DCR shares are getting rejected? Normal command line on my desktop works but not with this application.
