I agree.
Unfortunately, it doesn't seem like there is ANY sense when it comes to investing in alt-coins right now.
Everyone is just looking to make a quick buck and whatever coin gets hot sees a sudden spike in value,
regardless of the crypto behind it, the developers track record, etc.

Right now marketing is probably worth more than solid technology because traders have no idea what they are buying and will believe anything.
I honestly believe we are in the next bubble similar to the dot-com era of the early 90's.
Hopefully when everything crashes (and most coins will) the solid ones like Monero are still here and worth more than they are today.

The same thing goes for the average consumer.
I guarantee 90% of people who use Bitcoin have no idea what Segwit or Lightning Network are.
They just want to buy stuff and pay for it. Which is why user base/ supply and demand is the number one factor in price.

I think Litecoin could become a strong competitor to Dash/ ETH and coins like this,
but Segwit/ LN wouldn't cause it to take over Bitcoin. (In my opinion)

Bitcoin is already established as the number one currency.
It would take some time or huge errors for another coin to become number one.

Exactly.
Sell Bitcoin while everyone is buying, pick up cheap alts.
Wait a month or two for Bitcoin to drop and re-buy. Rinse and repeat.

Why the sudden interest in Bitcoin from Japan?
I haven't seen a reason given in any of the articles I've read.

ICASH has some new development and has gained 15 or 20 master nodes since the announcement. 
I bought a small amount over the last week. Might be worth looking into if there will be continued work on the project.

Biggest mistake is probably not having patience.
When I started I would buy Bitcoin and pay high fees because I wanted coins, waste time at faucets because I wanted dust,
and sell coins when the price dropped a few percent because I got nervous.

If you take a long-term approach and realize that it takes months or years to actually make money in crypto,
you will be more well informed and make better decisions. Read threads, research developer history etc. Learn about stock market trading because many of the same principles apply.

Any coin that hasnt traded 6 BTC for last 30 days probably isn't worth it for them to keep listed.
Either its a project without a lot of interest, or all the users are trading their coins on another exchange.

Why would you need to put a chip in people?
Everyone is already carrying a GPS enabled phone in their pocket, which they use to post pictures of what they are doing on social media.

You really think the market needs hundreds of coins?
99% of these coins are just people copy pasting code from github or whatever and changing the name.

Five to ten years from now there will be three or four of these current projects still in active development.
Most devs will have moved onto other coins or the next get rich quick scheme.
The trick is to invest in the few projects that actually mean something.

Yes $5 per XRP would make a company around the same worth of Amazon.
Its possible but you would need most major banks in the world using Ripple for this to happen.

A 'free internet' is a great idea, but remember that most connections are going over equipment owned by large corporations- ATT/ Verizon in the US, I believe Virgin in the UK,  Deutsche Telekom in Germany etc...
so there may always be some form of censorship available since these companies are usually directly tied to the government.

Or maybe people are starting to realize its not a dead coin and there is genuine interest in the project.
Pay no attention to the trollbox and make your own decisions. Someone always trying to dump coins they bought last week for a profit.

Poor security and management for one exchange shouldn't have impact on the price of Bitcoin.  
Bitcoin is secure. The weak point is with users and exchanges.

Still something that needs to be worked on if there will ever be mass adoption.  
Credit Card users would not be happy if they were responsible to pay charges if Visa/ Mastercard was hacked.

Altcoins are the new hot thing. Like the dot com era of the 90s.
Tons of new money is flowing in because everyone is trying to get rich.  

Unfortunately most investors are just going to lose a lot of money because these coins will end up doing nothing but making the developers a quick buck. 
Lets see if any of these coins are still up in two years from now. That will be the real test.

Remember that right now crypto is like the dot com bubble in the early 90's.  
A ton of money is flowing into projects that are going nowhere.

Some people are going to get rich quick off investors, some people are going to put in a lot of hard work and go bankrupt.  
Ten years from now 99.99% of these coins won't exist.

I think the money is better spent on development and technology, personally,
although the Dash team seems to be doing pretty well with the return they get from advertising, I guess...
