It seems that if it was never confirmed, then it should go back in the wallet. Otherwise, it's in limbo forever. Is that even possible? It is either sent or not sent.
This makes a good point. Bitcoin isn't "in limbo." At a low level, bitcoin relies on inputs and outputs, so the bitcoin is either in the original "spot" or the next "spot." Nothing gets 'returned' and nothing 'goes back' because it is either in spot A or in B. ;-) |

Usually not, no. i used a 12 random password that i had generated from counterparty wallet for some SJCX, could that be an issue? counterwallet.io i doubt very much that the counterparty wallet stored my password....... i think that it is browser based....  In theory a 12 character random password should be good enough. Is it just alpha-numeric characters? Lower case? Upper case mix? Special characters etc? (Don't answer, but that changes the math). Was the random generator that generated it really random? I think the smart advice is: if you don't need to leave the wallet.dat somewhere where someone could copy it and then try to brute force it, don't. But it really depends on the threat that you are worried about. If this is just a computer that your family is using, that is one thing. If this is a USB that you are going to throw away where someone might find it and look at it that is something different. If the wallet.dat is going to be somewhere where you have untrusted people -e.g. people you don't know- who have access to the wallet and computer at random, if you can remove it from the computer/drive etc, you'll be better off. The more bitcoins you have stored in the wallet (or the more that you could potentially have in there at some point in the future) the more concerned you need to be about where it goes. I think the main thing people have to be worried about is a virus on the computer that is stealing their credentials though. |

Bitcoin core keeps (by default) 100 unused private keys and addresses pre generated for you. This would only work if you would use all 100 (change)addresses. You can change this by adding keypool=103 to your bitcoin.conf file. Ok so then it is dangerous to leave old wallet backups on computers or USB pendrives that others have access to. Shorena could you explain abit more about keypool 103 into bitcoin.conf? where is that file? i have checked %appdata% and cant see it Yes, it is dangerous to do so. Even password protected wallets shouldn't be left where others have access. People often overestimate the security of the passwords that they use and the password that they think is "good" is, in reality, bad. So while the software is good at protecting the wallets reasonably well IF you have a "good" password, if you have any significant number of bitcoins (or alt coins in an alt coin wallet) leaving the wallet.dat exposed anywhere is not recommended if you have the ability to remove it. |

Yes, the block should be generated every 10 minutes but it is not. I want to build next difficulty prediction based on time value that will be required to generate next 2016 blocks after difficulty change. I want to extrapolate current block count into future and estimate this time.
You can always run Bitcoin Core and track it yourself. |

Hello, i bought 10 miners, i have my rasp PI, everything is connected correctly. But the miners are flashing yellow all of them, I put the pool address and my worker username and password and it won't connect to the pool. Please help.
At the beginning i manage to get 3 of them working with the blue light, but i didn't notice that 1 of the cables that connect the miners to each other was disconnected and then i connected and restarted the miners, since then, i am not able to get any of the miners working or connect to the pool. all on yellow flashing.

No the address you send the coins to. If its not from the merchant it has to come from somewhere. A typo is next to impossible due to the checksum at the end of the address. In the rare event that typo does provide a valid address, it is unlikely to be an address for which someone has the private key needed. I suggest you check your PC for malware. There is malware going around right now that changes the address in the clipboard (where data is stored when you copy and paste) to one the villain controls, and I suspect that is what happened here. yes i did find virus and i have deleted it ... i only have free addition of avg So does that mean that the address is not traceable and i cannot write to the owner ? as that was the address it was sent to ... im sorry if a silly question i am of the understanding that all these coins are traceable... through block chain ... or have i misread somewhere and got my facts wrong ? If you look at the op_return op code (as mentioned above) you will see that the amount of text that can be included is quite small so no one will be storing War and Peace, music or video in the (main) block chain. Likewise, this has been available for a while now, was debated a lot, and there were other techniques in use to store a limited amount of data in there prior to this so it isn't anything new. Using op_return is prunable too so it does not have to be stored on every node in perpetuity. Other techniques, for example, sending to a "vanity" "address" can be used to encode data. For example, I could send to "1freecarz...." if you want to encode the words "freecarz". Or whatever. Depending on the technique, one could store some data in most (all? perhaps) other cryptocurrencies. So what's to stop a miner setting up a global public records service, and take money from customers to add records to the Bitcoin Blockchain. He gets the mining reward as well as the revenue from the business. Apart from the initial cost of mining, all the maintenance costs are born by the nodes (ie. people like me) for no reward. I'm not sure I'm prepared to accept that. I see Bitcoin as a payments service, not a registrar of births and marriages, or an obituary service for somebody's pet dog. Once that catches on, and it's probably more acceptable to the public than crypto-currency, we'll be up to 50Gb blocks in no time.

Looks like your wallet.dat size is huge (size and number of keys). Why do you have it so large? That is almost definitely the problem.
To verify, if you move your old wallet.dat (and have a backup) and relaunch it, is it more responsive?
How much ram etc is on your machine? CPU? OS?
