the real bitcoin will always be the chain that has the most support from EVERYONE. so far this has been true and hopefully in the future this will continue to be true. and everyone consists of all the users (nodes) and services and businesses out there. this has to be the majority so you can call it bitcoin. the rest doesn't matter if they were the old chain, the new chain, the 2x chain, the cash chain, the 1x chain, the gold chain, .... will be an altcoin doomed to fail. #consensus (21% of them already)
21% of what? of hashrate (that's what matters anyways)? do you have a source for it? Hash rate is not “what matters anyway.” Hashrate isn’t irrelevant, but there are many more important things than hashrate.

If this is “hard times”, what was it at any point before mid-2017? This type of article seems to lack any perspective. If “industry experts” actually knew what was going to happen, they’d be richer than Bill Gates.

I bought Bitcoin and sent it straight to my wallet. I'm positive I accidently clicked a phishing link because I tried to send it to a different wallet and it asked for a Google authenticator code which I haven't set up. I tried to then change my password but it kept saying my current password was incorrect then logged me out. Now I can't login with the password that I know is right. Did someone hack into my electrum wallet? And are my Bitcoins gone forever? Or can electrum help get them back in any way?
Do you know the address you sent to? If so, you can look at it with a block explorer and see if they are there. Do you know the seed words that Electrum gave you? If so, you can reinstall Electrum on a clean machine and then immediately transfer the coins to a new address NOT associated with your old wallet since you are positive you clicked a phishing link.

I have a two factor authentication wallet. I sent the vendor the “Receive” address and they confirmed the deposit this morning. Forgive my ignorance, I’m just very new to this and don’t know what to ask or how to navigate in the wallet.
What is the name of the wallet? Would you share the receive address? (It is safe to do so from a “not losing your coins perspective” but would reveal your address. ). This would help everyone to better figure out what is going on.

“unrecoverable crash for Bitcoin and Ethereum. As Twitter user StartaleTV noted – “all alt are up in the air now”. I would say more: it’s possible end of Bitcoin and other main cryptos like Ethereum. SEC isn’t working too fast – but if it starts regulations on wide scale, it will effectively kill Bitcoin fad.”
I’ve never heard of this web site, but it seems he is writing from 2010 through 2013 with the “Bitcoin is going to die”. Stuff. Not to mention ESL.

I recently had a sender deposit an amount into my wallet that I just set up - this is my first time using Bitcoin. They confirmed deposit this morning and my balance is showing 0. Does this usually take time to go through? How long should I usually wait before I begin to worry? Is there a way to track the transaction? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you
How did they confirm the deposit? If it has confirmed they should be able to provide you with a transaction id. Did they? Once they send it, many wallets will show it as pending, so as the poster above said, what wallet are you using? If you wish, you can use your public key to check the balance elsewhere (vs your local wallet) too. Whatever you do, do not share your wallet or private keys with anyone.

Governments don’t like their citizens to be free. So they want to control the tools that allow them too. Just like they thought $5-10 equivalents were “large bills” and had to be removed from circulation. Controlling authoritarians have to control.

it will be and it will be not, nobody know the answer about this question, and why would you ask something like this ? it's far from now on and i believe if it's really happen we should see it in the couple years later on and not right now. a lot of people had discussed it before and you can find it anywhere. just focus on what will happen in the coming weeks or months when the hardfork comes. and prepare yourself for it.
i believe Bitcoin still has a lot of room to grow and the price has not fixed yet, because it's not the 'real' value of The Bitcoin right now.
possibility ? yes it has a possibility to reach that point.
So it is like Schrödinger’s cat? No one knows now. Possibly. 7 years ago many thought $10, 100, and 1000 were fantasies.

How will Bitcoin SegWit2x be called?
VerCoin2? I think I’d take Roger’s bet. But after supporting VerCoin1 (bcash) who knows how much is left. 😂

I have a issue, I am generating millions of addresses with vanitygen, I have 55 thousand bitcoin addresses that I have saved in my computer and I want all my vanity addresses been checked if collide with any of my 55k addresses. for example: money.txt is my vanitygen addresses cash.txt is the addresses I have with bitcoins in it I need all addresses in money.txt compare with all addresses in cash, txt to see if found any collision. How can I do it?
I liked xhomerx10’s answer the best, but... Use comm or grep or fgrep. E.g something like: grep -F -x -f file1 file2

"Don't use a bootstrap.dat. That's way slower than just resyncing the whole blockchain from scratch."
This statement proves you don't know what your talking about
...
For others reading this, downloading Bootstrap.dat has been much slower for many versions now compared to a regular sync and is not recommended. Regardless of what is stated above, bootstrap.dat is a bad idea.

Bitcoin interferes with the philosophy of those in power in Hawaii-things that give people freedom aren’t welcome. The best advice for Hawaii is to vote out the party that keeps promising something for nothing in order to buy votes from those naive enough to believe in a “free lunch.”

The “struggling country” language makes it almost seem like this is due to some natural disaster when in fact it is a man made disaster - totalitarian socialists, Communists, fascists et al have this as their end game. Enrich themselves while enslaving their country.

Last year, legacy exchange CME group provided a bitcoin price index with the intent of adding bitcoin futures. However, they decided not to follow through with those plans. Bryan Durkin, who heads Chicago-based CME, told Bloomberg they were not going to list bitcoin futures. He mentioned the technology is nascent, and that digitization technology is on their radar. He further stated, “I really don’t see us going forward with a futures contract in the very near future.” However, some investors want exposure to bitcoin. There is a market for indirect exposure via futures contracts. Bitcoin Futures ContractsThough CME will not provide futures pairings to its clients, some of their competitors are entering the futures markets. Chicago, CBOE Holdings Inc., is slated to add futures contracting for bitcoin to their platform. They plan on implementing futures contracts in the fourth quarter of next year, according to the Bloomberg article. CBOE formed an alliance with the Winklevoss venture Gemini Trust Co in order to bring clients these bitcoin future options. Outside of the United States, other companies have tried their hands at offering bitcoin futures. Straits, a Singapore based company, introduced futures trading last year. Straits partnered with Bitpay to make the transition seamless. Jamie Redman, writing for news.Bitcoin.com, covered this story: "Singapore-based Straits Financial offers a multitude of trading vehicles, such as commodity futures, OTC markets, and derivatives…Straits Financial says that Singapore has firmly established itself as Asia’s international financial hub. The company says it aspires to keep the country’s role in finance flourishing. By collaborating with BitPay, the brokerage house will give its clientele access to certain markets using Bitcoin." The growing introduction of futures markets signifies that investors and traders want more exposure to bitcoin on legacy financial exchanges. It seems surprising (to me) that showtime would knowingly use this script. I wonder if we’ll ever know the truth about whether it was planned, a rogue employee or malware.
