Are you escaping the special characters and/or the entire paraphrase?
1302  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: Coinbase Faces Backlash, Legal Risk Over Bitcoin Cash on: August 02, 2017, 12:24:55 PM
"Strongly offended by facts clearly printed on coinbase's website weeks in advance."

Sounds as if SJW's strongly support BCC.

Not certain if that's a ringing endorsement. Perhaps a sign to avoid bitcoin cash?

Exactly.  They posted it, and sent out emails that included advice for moving coins.

However, it would be nice if they supported it as I have some BCC to sell.
1303  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2017-08-01] Bitcoin’s Civil War is Over But Bitcoin Price Set For Extreme Volat on: August 02, 2017, 06:28:27 AM
Once and IF BCC is determined to merely be an alt coin, then my opinion is BTC will soar.  Of course we all have opinions, but right now the new fork appears to me to be a "bump" in the road and beyond that it might be smooth sailing.  If I am proven to have guessed wrong I'll switch to the other leg of the new fork, which for now is an easy process.

Rather than that, I think all BCC is proving by hard forking off the blockchain and not really achieving much is that their purpose simply doesn't have support from any major holders or miners. As you have been able to tell from exchange prices, Bitcoin's price has been around what it was in the days before the fork and has not really changed much at all since then. Therefore, it is highly unlikely that it means anything to anyone anymore. I don't even understand how people can dumb something that no one wants. Basically what I am saying is that the new fork cannot even be considered a bump in the road. It did not affect the main chain at all.

I am no day trader, but I believe the current BCH price is simply a bubble about to burst.

Regarding the high price - perhaps the lack of exchanges that are supporting it makes price discovery difficult since few people can sell allowing easier support.
1304  Economy / Web Wallets / Re: Diffenece between blockchain and coinbase ? on: July 28, 2017, 04:33:23 PM
what's the diffeeence between bitcoins and blockchain after 1 of Aug

Or perhaps you didn't mean "blockchain.info" but the actual blockchain and you didn't mean "coinbase.com" but the coinbase since you didn't specify that you meant web sites.

This has information about the coinbase:
https://bitflyer.jp/en/glossary/coinbase

As far as the bitcoin blockchain:
https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Block_chain

Both will be the same on August 1, but since (to me) it wasn't clear that you meant "blockchain.info" by "blockchain" and "coinbase.com" by "coinbase" the links above should help round out the discussion.  However, the alt-coin BCC blockchain will diverge from the Bitcoin blockchain after August 1st, if it survives.

1305  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Spitting coins in a Bitcoin Core wallet after potential fork August 1st on: July 27, 2017, 12:27:06 AM
Ahh, so it's that simple now that SIGHASH_FORKID has been added - GREAT!

Thanks for the quick reply

You should also be able to copy (not move) the blocks themselves to the appropriate ABC directory and begin from there to save yourself having to resync it all.

1306  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Will increasing block size threaten Bitcoin on consumer hardware? on: July 26, 2017, 04:55:10 PM
Also, for example, you can use core client without keeping full blockchain. (i mean you can "cut" blockchain to the last 600 (??) blocks. But synchronization will take some time. Core will download full blockchain and then keep only 600 blocks)

However the way I understood it you still need to keep a full blockchain if you want to run a full node, right? Meaning using a pruned blockchain is merely for personal convenience and doesn't help the network?

You must understand one interesting fact: Core wallet (node) doesn't help Bitcoin network. It's only transmitted your transaction to the network and retralnslate transactions of other users (of course, it keeps full blockchain). If you clever enough you can guess that this function can be carried out by ordinary server or site. Only mining nodes influence on anonimity and decentralization.

No, it also enforces the protocol rules plus what ranochigo says above.
1307  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Will increasing block size threaten Bitcoin on consumer hardware? on: July 25, 2017, 05:59:54 PM
As I understand it there are 2 general sides to the scaling issue:
  • Increase Bitcoin's max block size to scale to more transactions
  • Keep the block size small while using off-chain systems like the Lightning network.

At what block sizes would typical users on PCs (with consumer hard drives and home networks) not be able to run Bitcoin nodes or miners anymore?

You have to define "typical" to answer that.  Additionally you'd have to define where geographically and when. E.g.  New York, or London?  Or Rabat, or St John's Antigua.  Today or next year or 2020?

One portable has had a 4TB SSD in it since 2016 with a quad core CPU and 16GB RAM.  Is that typical?   Now, probably not. In 2019, perhaps.  Bandwidth is a large concern too.
1308  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2017-07-21]BIP 91 Locks In and Bitcoin Price Rises Sharply on: July 23, 2017, 05:05:12 PM
The Bitcoin price rose sharply after Bitcoin Improvement Proposal 91 (BIP 91) was locked in yesterday evening.
Charlie Lee, the founder of Litecoin, who has great experience in cryptocurrency Segwit, predicted before that when BIP91 locks in and pools signal SegWit, BTC price will rally hard and it actually did.
Read the full article: https://coinidol.com/bip-91-locks-in-and-bitcoin-price-rises-sharply/

This doesn't even make sense.  I know these sites like to crank out junky clickbait articles, but at least they should be meaningful.
1309  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Core Error Message on: July 18, 2017, 05:54:50 PM
So I fired up the core client today after a couple of days having it turned off.

Once the blockchain was loaded up and it was ready to go I noticed (for the first time) an error message stating the following: "Warning: Unknown block versions being mined! It's possible unknown rules are in effect".

What does this mean? Are there already posts regarding this? Am I not running the latest core version and is that what's prompting this error message?

I don't want to spread panic or inform people with faulty information but yeah, I'm curious more than anything.

Just setup bitcoin-core 2014 https://github.com/bitcoin/bitcoin/releases/tag/v0.9.1 while it still available for download.
Bitcoin-core developers not trustable anymore, too many political interests, money and speculations.

Just run the current version.  Using a version several years old - while possible - doesn't get the benefits that 0.10, 0.11, 0.12, 0.13 and 0.14 have implemented including HD wallets, faster syncing etc. see:

1310  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: August 1 and Bitcoin core wallet on: July 18, 2017, 05:50:44 PM
You cannot just save the priv. key and import where you want?
Even if you can't, In case of a fork your coin will be available in both chains, because you don't spend meanwhile.
So even for what I know you are safe, "like a cold wallet" if you don't spend any satoshi.

Okay, yes i have all Bitcoins on a wallet.dat, and have not touch them since 2012.

So if i don't spend any coins i'm safe?

Thanks!

You should be fine as long as you have the private keys.  Please make sure you have several backups of the wallet too.

You can always export the private keys and use a lite wallet to manage them, even without being fully synced.
1311  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: FORK in progress ... now ! on: July 17, 2017, 04:58:48 PM
It just means some miners have mined blocks with a version number that is unknown to whatever software you are using - presumably Bitcoin Core.

Not a fork, just FUD?

1313  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2017-07-13]First Swiss Bank To Allow Its Clients to Exchange and Hold Bitcoins on: July 14, 2017, 12:58:20 PM
A good step, but they caved on bank secrecy so I wonder if they'll end up caving (somehow) on bitcoin eventually.
1314  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: NOOB need help. OLD ass wallet HOW TO ? on: July 14, 2017, 12:28:36 PM
I have not touched my wallet in 6 years....I still have bitcoin QT.....I put wallet file on multiple USB drives to hold offline. Fast Forward to now I have just got my trezor in the mail. How do I safely go about transferring all my bitcoins. Should I buy a new laptop ? incase the one i have now has malware or anything. I should download Electrum correct ? how do I update safely 6 years of blockchain will take forever and very risky to leave online that long right. Should I use my wifi only ? does it matter what computer i plug my trezor into because it cant get effected by anything ?.......Any help would be great. I am worried how to safely do this since of all the stories about hacking etc etc......So got a trezor finally have usb with wallet from 6-7 years ago now what lol

Regarding the malware question, to me, a lot depends on how many bitcoins the wallet controls and your comfort level. For me, if it had more than 100 (maybe even over 50) then I'd at minimum use Linux/tails and perhaps even a new laptop running something besides a Windows.

Export the private keys and then send from them to your Trezor address.  And make sure you download everything (electrum etc) from the real web site.

1316  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin transaction cost so high? Why? on: July 13, 2017, 11:55:35 AM
Hello everyone Smiley So I was ordering a few items online from a place that accepts Bitcoin, and for an item that costs only 24 Euros, the send cost was 7 Euros! That is too high! Bitcoin transaction fees should be very minimal! Is there any way to resolve this or is this to do with the blocks filling up?

What was the transaction id?  What was the size in kb of the transaction?

You are paying by the size, so if you were spending using lots of tiny faucet-size inputs vs one larger input, you pay more.

Without knowing this, everything else is just speculation that can't answer your question as to why the fee was high.
1317  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Calculating Input / Output to Pay Investor £/% Based on Cunsumer BTC Buy. on: July 12, 2017, 03:56:24 PM
Sounds like you'd want a database of deposits and then track with have been "bought".
1318  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: What are our expectations on August 1st? on: July 11, 2017, 07:58:52 PM
I have some questions Embarrassed  and I need your help guys

1. What will happen on August 1st will it be hard fork or soft fork?
2. What will there advantages and disadvantages be?
3. If I don't move my coins for instance from coinbase to blockchain I loss my coin, but what will now happen to coinbase after the segwith, will they also not be able to gain access to Bitcoin again?
???and I need your help guys

1. The happening on August 1 will happened on August 1 itself so your questions is not answerable yet.

2. All things that expected to happen have advantages. The bitcoin price is the main concerned by most of the others.

3. Ask Coinbase or wait for their announcement about their moves. For your safety, pullout all your funds on web exchanges and keep your bitcoin alongside with their private key.

You can help yourself if you have a doubt. There are lots of websites and articles about what should happened on bitcoin after August 1. Take time to research.
Which wallet can I use, cause the only ones I know of are web wallets and that is risky to me. And the ones too that are compactable with Mobile phones could not see any.

Cold storage or a wallet where you control the keys - e.g. Bitcoin Core, electrum etc

1319  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: why bitcoin fees is $1.60 to send bitcoins on: July 11, 2017, 12:57:55 PM
miners are too greedy, this will be the downfall

If you think they are too "greedy" buy some mining hardware and start mining using different parameters on the transactions you accept for your blocks.  They you can determine for yourself if you are covering your hardware, electric etc costs and whether or not miners are really being "greedy."  Or you can just run the numbers yourself and see what makes sense.

1320  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2017-07-08] Venezuelans Keep Surviving Government Failures Thanks to Bitcoin a on: July 11, 2017, 12:34:38 PM
That's right. I have a friend on Facebook from Venezuela and we talked reciently, he moved from all this haos to live abroad in Brazil and when I asked him about Bitcoin and crypto-currencies he answere that he has never heard about it before.

Obviously, the majority of the people there haven't likely head of Bitcoin. Main point of importance is that the people that do know Bitcoin, will slowly start spreading the word, but this is a process that takes a significant amount of time. Back in the days where Cyprus was going through a massive economical recession, people just assumed that the price increase was caused as result of that. Again, in that case the majority of the people there had likely no clue about what Bitcoin was. It wouldn't be the first time where crypto related news sites exaggerate the situation to draw more attention -- that's how they operate.

Its obvious that this so called authors do sometimes exaggerate things or even blown out of proportion to sensationalized news to attract readers and click on them. I think Venezuela are really in deep economic problem, that bitcoin is the only means of survival for a few/many? of them. Majority may not have heard of it, but I think if the problems will continue then bitcoin will slowly gain awareness with its citizen that it can at least help them to buy food and groceries from other countries.

It is really good to hear that a bad economic situation in a country is helping the people who are investing in bitcoin,i have heard that the electricity is cheap in Venezuela and there are many mining farms situated in that country and for them bitcoin will be a bonus to over come the struggle they are facing at the moment.

Yes, the electricity in Venezuela is quite cheap that's why they are mining in there. However, a few months ago, a mining farm was raided and all people involved throw in jail and the rigs confiscated. They said that this mining farms are operating illegally.

This is the answer to the main question. Bitcoin will not be able to help residents of Venezuela because the government will not allow this. If people go into the bitcoin community, then the country's economy will never get out of the pit in which it is now located

It should be a cautionary tale for people around the world - prepare for the storm while the sun is shining. Put some money in bitcoin/gold/somewhere off-shore when you can.

When you see the authoritarians of any stripe - dictators, socialists, fascists, communists etc - headed your way, the storm clouds are on the horizon so protect some more of your wealth. And perhaps yourself and families by fleeing.

Just ask more Cyprus recently and many other places. People think "it can't happen here" wherever "here" is, but it can and often does happen.

Also protect yourself now from the authoritarian central bankers who will drain your wealth away a few (or more) percent per year through inflation.  A few percent adds up over time.

You say very wise words. But, unfortunately, people find a lot of prisin in order not to care about their future. The main problem is that there is always not enough money to buy a crypto currency. And many do not believe in crypto currency.
I feel sorry for the inhabitants of Venezuela. They were victims of the state

I agree.

I'd also have to take issue with the "Surviving Government Failures" title.  These aren't "government failures" they are the logical, expected outcome of authoritarian policies.  ;-)
