2041  Economy / Goods / Re: WTB LEAD IN BULK on: January 25, 2014, 04:14:31 AM
how long are we going to keep this an inside joke?

Unless you are Patrick, which I wouldn't rule out, I don't think you are on the inside  Shocked
2042  Economy / Goods / Re: WTB LEAD IN BULK on: January 25, 2014, 03:52:24 AM
I'd recommend tungsten over lead.

Its not for counterfeiting, its for playing with. Last time Mush came over to play, we played jenga and legos with 30 lbs of lead ingots. We need more though.

We are trying to catch drain bamage
2043  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Disclose the identity owners of exchanges BTC-e.com on: January 25, 2014, 03:46:24 AM
I'm against finding the identity of the BTC-E owners. They don't ask for my info, I don't want their info as long as they don't run off with my money. They have earned my trust with years of excellent service, and they are currently the only exchange that I deal with. I'd say more than likely they don't want their ID's revealed for legal reasons, and I can respect that.

As far as I can tell, they have figured out that they stand to make far more money in the long run by operating legitimately, as one of the few exchanges that can't be shut down at the whim of the U.S Government. I say leave them alone until there is reason to find their information.

My largest complaint is that sometimes there are miscommunications due to the language barrier, but I've seen them act incredibly ethically, even when they didn't have to. Not to mention back when you could make faces in the chat box, they gave me a secret custom gif for my birth day  Grin I had people offering me tens of Bitcoins to tell them to type :blacat: But I wouldn't do it! *kicks self in the butt*
2044  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [GOAT] The coin that rewards it users. SHA256. Hurry, difficulty low! on: January 25, 2014, 01:25:01 AM
I have nothing to do with this coin.

You have EVERYTHING to do with this coin!

Hehe, the reason I'm interested in this coin, is because my buddies and I were working on making Goatcoin for giggles, but when I saw this come out I just kind of laughed that we had been beaten to the punch, and felt obligated to mine it.

My version of goatcoin was to be about the animal and Chang Noi Goat. The ultimate goal was to get Goat to accept my goatcoins, and thats about it.

The thread was moved / cloned - I didn't realize! It appears that the p2pool code I made is working, but:

1. It had been finding blocks for a while, but only displays those later on for a reason I have yet to understand
2. I didn't expect the pool to attract miners with several hundreds of gigahashes - the server couldn't handle it!

For now, the safe bet is to use the other pool..

Thank you for coming and clearing things up! And yes, I didn't see that coming either. Glad people are mining it, now all we need is to be added to an exchange Wink

And a pool. Sorry for breaking yours 0btc  Cry, but there are no others at the moment. I'd solo mine, but tis not working for me.
2046  Other / Meta / Re: End of newbie restrictions; ban changes on: January 24, 2014, 07:54:07 PM
Effectively we are observing a small flooding of newbie posts in every section...  Undecided

Please report insubstantial and off-topic posts as well as very insubstantial topics. They should be deleted or moved.

This, while I don't really agree with the removal of the newbie requirements, I haven't seen any substantial out of place newbie spam, maybe one or two threads in the last day or two, I had expected a lot more. People are talking about the flood of topics, but I can't seem to find them. Please report them people.
2047  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: BTC-e banning traders for mentioning dogecoin in trollbox. on: January 21, 2014, 04:58:32 AM
Their site, their rules. They could decide to remove Bitcoin trading and ban anyone who mentions the word Bitcoin, or the color orange, or that owns a goldfish. If you don't like it, don't use them.

*edit* because this comes up so much, and people keep spreading misinformation, not that this will help, Balthazar, a very long time chat mod and a close friend of BTC-E created NVC, its not really a shock that BTC-E started trading Novacoin, it was more than likely a favor to Balthazar, he did give them a bunch of coins as a present, but then when people started getting pissy, they sent all of the coins to an unusable address. I don't know about the FTC situation.

The original doge early adopters intention was to pump doge, and then dump it on stupid people who would buy in on a dead meme (I was there during the conversation but decided I wouldn't bother with it) the question is, have they already done so, and did doge recover, or has it yet to happen. It was all done publicly, so I'd be surprised if BTC-E wasn't aware of it. They probably A. aren't interested in listing it in the first place, or B. would like to wait and see how everything turns out.
2048  Economy / Goods / Re: [WTS] 2011 1 BTC Error Casascius Coin 2.25BTC on: January 20, 2014, 10:52:55 PM
How does ketchup differ from 'regular' cleaning methods? Logically, it's impossible.

*edit According to uberbills http://casascius.uberbills.com/?address=1DtmMLhBQoiwUtdg18h7AFA4m57Vte3EGi, this is a june 2012 coin.

I'd assume its the acid in the ketchup, mild enough that its not going to corrode the metal more, but strong enough that it will actually work, but thats just my guess, I'm not cleaning it.

The 2011 Casascius coins were made, and they were funded at time of sale. If he didn't sell them until 2012 then they weren't funded until 2012.

I fucking hate reddit

I agree.

Anyway, on topic and straight to the point. Hell no.

2051  Economy / Goods / Re: [WTS] (Silver): How much would you give me for... on: January 19, 2014, 11:08:57 PM
those are illegal to melt.

Incorrect. The law that made it illegal to melt currency was passed in 1967, all currency produced before 1967 is legal to melt down. Luckily for us, it is 1965 and earlier that are 90% silver, so all 90% silver coins are legal to melt.
2052  Other / Meta / Re: Donate bitcointalk advertisement money to Bitcoin client development on: January 18, 2014, 01:07:05 AM
From what I understand, the ad revenue from Bitcointalk is currently going to a fund to upgrade the forum software. I think it would be much better spent donating to those developing new Bitcoin clients. Bitcoin has some great projects happening now, but the Satoshi client only has one full-time paid programmer. I think having several paid programmers working on the reference client would be more fitting for a network the size of Bitcoin's.

I'm guessing the ad revenue minus the 25% donated to the moderators and the portion spent on hosting expenses would be enough or close to enough to hire one additional full-time developer, which could make a big difference.

I don't think giving a donation from the forums to the developers if they need it is a bad idea, but I don't think constantly paying the developers would be a good idea. The forums are a place to get together and talk about Bitcoin, its an informal message board, not a hiring agency. The goal is not to centralize, if everything bitcoin starts revolving around the forums, rather than it just being a convient place to chat, problems could occur.

The forum money isn't being spent on anything related to the forums, look around, look at the old post that suggested the upgrade. It's being stored, and will be cashed out slowly by Theymos when the value is high enough, to buy him a nice castle.

There may have been bonuses sent out, but if memory serves correctly, there is edit: ~$9,000,000 in the forum accounts.

Would you mind providing TXIDs to where Theymos is taking BTC out of the forum's fund? (not to mention that Theymos doesn't actually hold most of the coins)

Also, Custom forum software was announced to have started development about a month ago, maybe more, it will take a while, but there will be new forum software. If we are lucky, that "~$9,000,000 in the forum accounts" will be a whole lot more by the time it needs to be spent.

I don't know what the big emphasis is on spending the forum's coins, why must all of the coins be spent? Had they all been spent last year, they would have had far less buying power. The longer the coins sit, the more buying power the forums has for upgrades. Why must it all be spent immediately if not sooner?

Some ketchup (no joke) would have that looking like new. Don't get it on the holo though!

Heh, yes I have been advised  Wink

However, I'm not going to do any restoration work on it. If someone else wants to, they are welcome to.

Bump! SaltySpitoon has received his coin; quantities have been updated in the OP.

That I have, thank you very much. If I'm in the market for another, you will be the first person I ask  Smiley
2057  Other / Meta / Re: Can an adult mod please move thread? on: January 13, 2014, 05:56:36 PM
It is mining hardware, and will hash as promised or you can give us both scammer tags.  Wait for the unboxing.  You guys are like parents spoiling all the fun.  Just leave it.  Started a new thread.

There is no hashing promise. I get it, its a good joke, it accurately satarizes the flaws of other Asic companies and is therefor humorous. Off topic is an accurate place for it.

2058  Other / Meta / Re: Can an adult mod please move thread? on: January 13, 2014, 05:31:56 PM
Can't tell if you are kidding or not. The thread is satire, I don't see why off topic isn't fine for it.

Most of the thread is satire...the pre-order part.  The baby unicorn prototype is for sale.  Someone did purchase one and will receive one.  Move it OT or scammer if nothing is delivered.

The prototype is a picture of a horse. Its not mining hardware. The entire thread, and I'd assume the order for a 0.035 BTC picture of a horse is a joke as well.

2060  Other / Off-topic / Re: I wish I could rent a time machine. on: January 13, 2014, 07:28:03 AM
Minus the altering your mind part, Dank is actually rather close to a few existing theories of time travel. It is true, time really doesn't exist. Its just the progression of events measured in an evenly divisible amount of smaller "time" units based on the sun/light in general.

Personally, I believe time travel to be possible, however it is rather useless. It almost always requires moving faster than the speed of light which I believe will be possible in the future. However, all you would be able to do is alter your own perception. Light may be hitting your eyes from 30 minutes in the past, however people are still going to continue progressing as normal.
