The $177 per miner is just the 50% deposit. You'll have to pay them another $177 per miner before they'll ship (in about three months), so to compensate you for the tremendous wait you get a whopping 4% discount.
At that point you'd hope for free shipping....
2062  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: Antminer S1 for sale on: March 22, 2015, 07:18:55 AM
how much are s1's going for these days? I dont see a lot of people selling them
Under $40, shipping kills it

TTravis,
Please act as IT Security consultant, not like my literature high school teacher.
We all will see what is about to happen.
I can't see that happening Tongue
He seems to have tried to jump on the ddos bandwagon and advertise himself with it.
But some of his comments suggest he's not all that knowledgeable on the subject Tongue
Well all that server protection is behind tons of firewalls and DMZ's, but you also need to have the money to buy the sophisticated hardware and power that said hardware.
Then port blocking, and watching the incoming and outgoing traffic. It gets deep and complicated, and takes time.

2065  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: antminer s6 4500gh/s 1000watts on: March 22, 2015, 04:29:20 AM
That's easy. They're not being used for cooking or drying about 95% of the time. Unplug, replug. Takes an extra 20 seconds.
That's the spirit!
2066  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Recent Antminer S5 prices on: March 22, 2015, 04:22:15 AM

If you buy the bulk batch it comes to 177 per miner. I wonder how much shipping is...

Dunno about you, but I'm not planning to invest in 1600 Antminer S5's at this particular moment.  Cheesy

A massive group buy? 1600 users, 1600 units Cheesy actually that's a job for lee's miners. But delivery isn't slated till June

I was talking Ebay on line.

Where do you guys see them for under $200!?!?

hell yeah under 200 is very good.

Where? I'd get some. Lol

I would buy s-5's at 300.

2069  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: International bitcoin survey launched - 1btc split 16 ways up for grabs on: March 21, 2015, 05:56:02 PM
well depending on this a follow up survey might fill in some blanks. gambling is touchy between cultures but people are usung the space to fill in gaps. ask questions, wait a while for data to come in and I'll cut the data the first week of april. theres a few pics being posted on twitter under #bitcoinsurvey .  I get the idea lots of people are trying to figure out bitcoin like south parks underpants gnomes business model

i have a gold plated bitcoin and im trying to work out how I could use a message to verify that who I'm talking to is the person who won. ie to post it to a winner. and been told many wallets don't let you sign messages. so if they won they couldnt sign it  so that wont work

the survey is nearly at 100 when I checked last - 10% of the way to my 1000 goal after about a week and getting a bit of momentum  Smiley

however getting a gender balance to this is probably going to mean paying for facebook ads later :/ cryptomoms posted  a link to this thread, so thanks! I thought the gender balance in games was bad at 80/20 from my experience in 12 years in the industry. but so far only 7% are female respondents.

so if people have an other half or housemate or family member or work/sport/drinking friend and especially if they dont use bitcoin, get them to fill it in. you'll have an excuse to give them their first wallet address.

To verify, you could have them link to a BCT profile... Or maybe an email
2070  Economy / Goods / Re: Selling RFID reader/writer Hardware/Bitcoins/Runescape rares/random items. on: March 21, 2015, 05:15:28 AM
Hey, I did some research on that escrow. I believe localbitcoins.com offers an escrow, I'm not sure about the fee differential. I believe that's the best option as well. I'd like to increase my feedback.
Try looking around the forum here. Your best bet is OgNasty on these forums. He is a great escrow, and has been around for a while.
Typically who is responsible for the fees? I highly doubt it's free.
It normally falls on the buyer, there are legitimate escrows that are free too. You just have to find the right one.

Thanks a bunch dude.
No problem.
OgNasty is one of the big escrows here, there are more. I'd have to find a list that was thrown around at one time.

Edit: devthedev is a good one too. here is a list, not up to date I think, but a start. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=108716.0
There are many more, just giving you a start point.
2071  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: GekkoScience BM1384 Project Development Discussion on: March 21, 2015, 04:09:51 AM
It's going to depend heavily on chip prices from Bitmain. That'll be the dominant factor. If we end up in the same price neighborhood as an S5 it's still sort of a win because the top-end hashrate is actually higher and the bottom-end is actually attainable without rocket surgery and the shipping costs will be less.

Absolutely!!!!!!  No more dealing with China for RMA or technical issue's too  Wink

Maybe the US can FINALLY have a decent miner company !!!!!!!  Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy
What about spondoolies?
But it would be pretty awesome to have more choice for residential mining Cheesy

#1 Spoondolies is based in Israel, shipping is higher than from here in the US,not just for purchase but for RMA too..........

#2 Spoondolies is not making a home miner ever again...they said so.Just large datacenter miners sold in bulk only  Roll Eyes

We MAY get to buy em thru a Group Buy,but don't count on it  Sad

Not sure where Bitmain is going with their S6/S7 miners yet, gotta wait & see.

"Help me sidehack maybe you my only hope"  Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy
Sometimes I feel really stupid, for some reason I thought they were based in texas.

I think you missed the entire point. Yes, the USB route won't be the focus. Making a USB stick is motivated both by market interest and because our initial testing will get us 80% of the way to a working USB stick miner anyway so there's no reason not to finish it out if people want them.
Also, we won't be building a <100GH device that costs almost $1/GH. We're hoping for a 300+GH board at around $75 would be nice.
We're also wanting to build something conducive to home mining. Which is very specifically NOT high-density rack-mounted gear. Repurposing existing chassis from retired miners is a lot better, in my opinion, than building another all-new mining skeleton to park alongside the several dozen other existing builds. So the focus will not be on USB stick miner, but it also won't be on that stuff you just said.

Maybe you should poll what the most common chasis is. I personally have two s3's and two rosewill 10 port USB hubs

Donations. I'll have a donation address included in the next raffle. I also spend tons of time on BCT, so why not make use of that time?

Edit: Round 3 Should be within three days.
2076  Economy / Collectibles / Re: 2015 Kialara Labyrinth: Production Update on: March 20, 2015, 03:38:26 PM
I beat it in 6 minutes....I'm trying to upload the video except it is really huge (800mb).  Anyone know how to shrink it on an iphone?

Scrap that... my best is now 2:55.  I was able to upload the entire video to youtube... it's odd to watch.  I solve it upside down but my phone is hanging over the end of my desk (so it's upside down too) so it looks normal on the video.

Pretty cool. I'm wondering if there is a set end date, or something for this competition for the free Kialara.
2077  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: [WTB] Spondoolies SP20E - 400$ include shipping on: March 20, 2015, 03:35:54 PM
Just buy a new one directly from Bitmain. You can play by credit card there. Its around $340 or so.
