2061  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [ANN] Bitfury ASIC sales in EU and Europe on: April 26, 2014, 05:48:27 AM
Weird issue: today i reboot the Bitfury for some brief downtime, and on powering up it fails to hash properly.

Here's what happens (rebooting does not resolve the issue, nor do the start/stop mining buttons)

-The chips are hot - 100% operating and producing the full heat of normal operation
- SSH viewing of the stat.log file shows that all the chips are hashing normally, and actually provides a correct hashrate (about 225GH/6 cards)
- The WebUI works but shows no hashrate
- The pool shows no hashrate.
- using SSH, the pools_conf file has the correct information and matches the webUI pool info

I dont understand if the chips are hashing but somehow not reporting the outputs? This was a routine 'shudown/halt, PSU off, a few minutes, PSU on'. First time ive ever had the unit failing to hash normally but produce heat

EDIT:  after posting this, somehow one last attempt at the stop miner/start miner buttons on the WEBui got it working again.... weirdness (and why i try to not touch these things once they are running)

2063  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Antminer S1 Sales open] Price changes daily, now 0.619 BTC for 180GH/s on: April 25, 2014, 05:33:51 PM
Lets say you want to invest for 2 Th/s.

Means you will need 16x S1s or 2x A1 clones for example.

option a):
-16x S1s
-need PSUs and power cables.
-Need a router and 16x ethernet cables
-Need much more space.
-Need, also, baby sitting
-Consume 2600W
Cost: Around 11 BTC

option b):
-2x A1 Ths clones
-Consume 2000W
Cost: Around 10 BTC

You choose.

I choose option c.):
Buy 10 Ants and over clock them to 200 GH : 6.19 BTC
Buy 5 850 watt power supplies : 1.3 BTC
Total : 7.5 BTC

I can pay for the extra power they consume for many months with the 2.5 BTC I saved versus buying A1 clones.

You don't regard power limitations.

power limits may not be a factor for some people until late 2014. The antminer can be profitable at 2w/GH until ~september, and can even underclock to 140GH/170W each before then
2064  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Announcement: Bitmain launches AntMiner solution, 0.68 J/GH on chip on: April 25, 2014, 05:23:06 PM

Bitmain,

I just stumbled on this on another forum:

  https://www.bitmaintech.com/product/antminer-s3-250-mhs-scrypt-litecoin-miner-4wmhs-batch-1/  fixed

Is Bitmain actually  selling this.... or is it a scam?  (note: the "s" after bitmain in the url.)

If Bitmain is selling these at that price, they have just "stolen the Thunder" from every other Script ASIC developer.

If so, can you make 100MHS version and sell it for about $1600? You would fill every house with one. :p

um what? that link is to an advertisement, then to the actual bitmain site.    what a shitty little way to try and get some free pennies

lots of these still available! I also have an ebay listing but its a touch higher priced
2066  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Antminer S1 Sales open] Price changes daily, now 0.619 BTC for 180GH/s on: April 25, 2014, 03:44:35 PM
Guys , don't be naive.

Bitmain are not idiots, they want to get rid of the S1 as they are obsolete/dead already.

They will soon present a new model or something with lower consumption.( I am not talking about the unsuccessful S2)

Don't start with the undervolt / underclock options, please. This is not a permanent solution.

The S1 might be a better deal than you think - If you are able to consider the value of decreaseing the voltage or clockspeeds every month or so to maximize the GH/w ratio compared to power costs.  Without pencil mod you can probably go to around 160GH/210W , and later pencil-mod to 120GH/140W which adds a few more difficulty jumps where you turn a small profit.

Consider that for 8*0.618BTC   (4.944 BTC)  you could probably tune these to run at 1TH/1300W  in 1-2 months from now.

I havent bought yet at the lower price, because my spatial limits make it more reasonable to buy compact 1TH+ devices - but I cannot justify >5BTC for a 1TH/1kW  device
2067  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: [GAUGING INTEREST] H-Card Mini Group fab on: April 25, 2014, 03:35:21 PM
The better method would be to make 16-chip boards by the official spec, and using the newer revision of chip that should allow each 16-chip board to push ~50GH.

The 8-chip board just results in more slots on the m-board being filled which is an issue if you don't sell m-boards to go with it.  just my 2c
2068  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: AntMiner S2 1TH/s Miner (1w/GH/s) on: April 24, 2014, 06:04:17 PM
Bitmain just issued my coupon for a B2 unit - Ive never had issues with thier coupons (other than the seemingly random values and distribution frequency as they sometimes are not rewarded for weeks after a purchase, and othertimes only a day or two after - either way a coupon is a coupon!)

My only beef with Bitmain's coupons is that they expire too quickly (usually within a 3-4 weeks).  Sometimes I just want to sit on the coupons for a bit longer, but can't.

I agree, but think its totally fair that they expire. Imagine using a 0.085BTC coupon at the current price - the sale would be nearly unprofitable for Bitmain at 0.55
2069  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Antminer S1 Sales open] Price changes daily, now 0.63 BTC for 180GH/s on: April 24, 2014, 06:01:25 PM
It's a good price....

Wish I had more power...  Wink

No its not good price. Read previous posts. Why they dropped price so hard from 0.881 to this 0.63?
S1 areWERE massive overpriced.
I will wait moment or so to see is will get coupons. I made order for 5 units recently so will see how bitmain will treat me after sendin overcklocked units.

They reading forum and they can see people are pissed of about how they doing business this days.

FTFY.  The new price is entirely reasonable, particularly for anyone who pays <$0.15/kwh and has the extra space and power.  (Believing that the future price of BTC will rise also makes the calculations look a bit better).

I would think that bitmain would be breaking even when they hit 0.5BTC or ~$250.   This considers the chips to  cost about $1 each ($64), 8 regulators that are about $4 each ($32), shipping that costs about $120, and probably $10 cost for the heatsinks.    This is about $230 and does not even include the control board (~$10?), PCB (~$10/ea), and assembly.

My money says that this might be nearly all the S1 units they have in stock before the S2 (or S3?) becomes the necessary next step.  At 0.63 and the current BTC price, they are only looking at ~$50 profit per unit I would assume (which is still pretty good for the quantity they sell)

The S2 price will hopefully make a drastic drop soon and be a bit more competitive at <5BTC

We Just purchased 5-S2's BEFORE the Coupons Were Issued and NOW YOU REFUSE to Treat us with Professional Customer Service Giving us Credit for the 5-S2's Purchased the 500.00 Credit.
You FINALLY sent us the Coupons After We purchased and have bought nearly 100,000.00 USD of products from you.
BUT these coupons can only be used one per unit.
We plan to purchase 2-3 more S2's and the coupons are useless for those 5-Units we already Purchased.
Why are you treating us this way???

The LEAST you could do is treat us Properly and Professionally in this matter and Issue us Either a 500.00 USD Credit in BTC to the Address Provided in multiple PM's OR a 600.00 Coupon that can be applied to a single miner and a 100.00 Coupon to be applied to another miner.
Then you could delete the 7-Coupons we have in our account.

After many PM's back and forth you have  REFUSED to Address this issue and the replies given are AS IF you just don't understand while YOU DO UNDERSTAND VERY WELL.

IF you wish you can Refund the entire amount for the 5-pcs S2's to the BTC Address Provided in the PM's and we can repurchase and apply the Coupons one per unit.

ALL the Above has been sent in multiple PM's and an email...

IF you wish us NOT to do Business with you Ever Again we will Comply.

Please Advise.

SINCERELY...

From what I've been reading as of late, this sounds like they are following the same path as BFL. My coupon questions were also ignored multiple times for my S1s - and I'm a small french fry compared to the rest of you all with mega big purchases.

So sad, indeed.  And to think, I had so much respect for Bitman's prompt service earlier this year.  They were always slow to reply, but they would respond back...eventually.  Bitman, don't be another BFL, please!

in my experience with bitmain, send an email and hopefully they will address the issue. I feel that you are entitled to the coupons for your batch 3 orders since a discount was promised. Addmittedly, you should have waited a day or two to receive the coupon before you ordered, but in this circumstance it would be fair/right for Bitmain to return 0.2BTC to your address for each miner that should have had a coupon.

ps: you bought at least 5 S2 units from Batches 1 and/or 2 right? You would not get any Batch 3 coupons unless you had previously ordered (and even then, 1 coupon per B1/B2 unit)
2071  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: AntMiner S2 1TH/s Miner (1w/GH/s) on: April 24, 2014, 04:46:38 PM
either way, i could only go again if the coupon i never got was worth 1000USD not a lousy 100.
i also hear people complaining about them not honoring the coupons they give to customers.

Bitmain just issued my coupon for a B2 unit - Ive never had issues with thier coupons (other than the seemingly random values and distribution frequency as they sometimes are not rewarded for weeks after a purchase, and othertimes only a day or two after - either way a coupon is a coupon!)

S1 makes far more sense than an S2 right now. about half the price for a TH, but at twice the wattage and about twice the space requirements (and no PSU).

0.63 BTC is fair for the S1
4.5 BTC would be fair for the S2
2072  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Antminer S1 got shot on: April 24, 2014, 04:40:45 PM
-your language is a bit confusing. heres what i understand:
-you had 3 machines running on two iball extension cord/bars.   (Presumably on the same duplex outlet?).  It worked without a problem (about 1250W power draw considering PSUs)
-you added two more machines (another ~800W).    Total of 2000W  (or around 17A of 120V).

Sounds like 1 of two things occured:

1) the extension cords can only handle 15A and they popped. Its possible your circuit panel also popped if it was a 15A outlet.  (If it was a 20A it might not pop, but would be loaded near the limit and any other lights/applances on it could push it beyond safe limits (should never have 24/7 load over 80% of circuit rating)

2) your PSUs cant handle the antminers the way they are setup. They trip when the antminer starts hashing at full power draw, and a few seconds later turn back on and the ants reboot, start hashing, and trip the PSU again.
2073  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Antminer S1 at 393 MHz on: April 24, 2014, 04:29:58 PM
Hi all,
sorry for hijacking this treat op.
i have corsair 750watt. Is it possible to 2 s1 with 1 oc -393 and 1 normal mode? Any advice? Thanks

tight most likely no.

A pair of 750W psu is great for 3 antminers, even overclocked (about 1300-1400W on the 12V depending on brand and efficiency rating). But a single one will not handle overclocked. even stock clocks might be too big a draw (a 750w psu usually only has 600-700W of 12V)
2074  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: AntMiner S2 1TH/s Miner (1w/GH/s) on: April 23, 2014, 09:03:46 PM

could you please post a code for overclocking? I havent seen the method laid out clearly and simply yet.

Code:
code window

I think the voltage of the regulators is the issue, rather than power or temperature.  I have a pencil and a 2000W PSU ready, and am hoping to spend some time with my device tomorrow to see how easily the regulators can all be pencil-modded. 40 resistors total that will need to be modified if you want to get the frequency any better than 225

I have not done any pencil mod on the resistors only adjusting the asic-freq

Code:
ssh root@(your miner) - pass = admin
vi /config/asic-freq.config

#option 'freq_value'    '0881'  #225M
#option 'chip_freq'     '225'
#option 'timeout'       '45'  <--- I have changed this from 50 - 40

option 'freq_value'    '0781'  #200M
option 'chip_freq'     '200'
option 'timeout'       '40'

presumably the timeout should decrease as frequency is bumped up. I would assume 42-44 would be a good zone to try at 225 and even at 200.

after the above edits to the file, how do i implement it? Do i have to restart cgminer, use the reboot command, or actually switch off the PSU and switch back on (after a few second delay)?

I am all set to install the 2000W supply tomorrow - and will try overclocking moderately when I do. Does anyone know if there is a hex code that provides a frequency around 215-220MHz?

At my machine for stock clock, the stock timeout is 40.

After you edited the config file and saved it, just go to miner configuration and psu save and apply. It restarts cgminer with the new settings. For me his is the best working way.

If I always switch on-off the miner sometimes it brick or reset back to default.

In hex codes I would be interested too. I've tried to figure out some but had no success....

This brings me to my bigger issue: I cannot seem to remotely access the web UI for the miner.  Remote use of PUTTY works fine and I had to use that when modifying the pool info.  But when i go to 192.168.1.99 i get a login page where root/admin and root/root do not work - eventually dumping me with a 401 error. The login window is identified as the antminer machine so is the correct ip address.

I can forgo the webUI since my pool sees a constant 990GH, but it means I cannot do the simple save-and-apply method. I need a SSH-based method to apply the change, either via 'reboot' or some start-cg/stop-cg commqnds

Has there been any discussion on overclocking the S2?  Potentially adding additional power and increasing frequency?  If there is a different discussion board please point me in the right direction!

I replaced PSU with a 1300 watt PSU, OC'd it to 225 clock and watched the HW errors climb and pool speed fall. I turned down clocks to 200 and while HW errors are still SUPER high, it is hashing @ 1050+ on the pools. So as of yet OC'ing the S2 is LAME!

$3099 (return coupon) is NOT a good price, cloudhash price is dumping (> $4/GHS) @ $3.09 per GHS, plus power and heat I can do better letting a MEGA-DataCenter run the equipment for me.

Sorry BitMainTech the product does NOT warrant the price.

the discussion has been pretty minimal thus far. IIRC it was mentioned waaay back in this thread that you can get up to about 225MHz for 1250W/1175GH, but when changing specs you need to start/stop cgminer rather than simply rebooting the unit like the S1 did.

to get further, the resistors likely would need pencil modding to go from 0.75V to 0.85V. at 0.85V you could almost certainly achieve 1500W/1300GH.  Cooling may be an issue at this speed though.

DOES ANYONE HAVE A SPARE BACKPLANE? I would really like to be able to try overclocking just one or two of the blades seperately as a sort of test bench.  With sufficient cooling, the actual hardware could probably handle 150% speeds at about a 200% power consumption

personal and/or company info?

There is a past precedent of users offering hosting for units that are in thier mining farm, and once they have 'sold' several units or shares they pay a few dividends than dissapear with 90%+ of the investment and are never heard from again.

In order for someone to trust you, they need firm reason to, and also a way to track you down and identify you if there are any problems or legal issues down the road

*escrow for immediate shipping would be advised until you have a reputation or at least a few delivered units*

Hashfast - Finally delivering, however high failure rates in initial batch. Batches continue to be delayed. MPP scheme soon to be shipping

Given that VMC are just reselling used hashfast boards re branded as VMC prospectors it doesn't surprise me that there is a 64% failure rate in these 'used' boards with thermal paste all over them now going out to unsuspecting customers.

Care to comment Ken? or the shills who are supporting him?

I don't know too much about that stuff, but I was under the impression we are only buying the ASIC from Hashfast and we have based the boards off of the reference design, but rather had them contracted out to an engineering firm to build.

So we shouldn't we buying any hashfast boards at all.

I would too like an explanation.

ken said before that he 'bought the chips" (from hashfast), "bought the PCB" (this seems to indicate that the finished pcb was bought from hashfast, rather than custom-fabricated), and that at least one assembly house they used is the same one used by hashfast.

it really sounds like ACTM paid hashfast to "build" them boards rather than admit to simply buying them.  More proof of the assembly and purchase process could clarify this easily, but the financial reports (the easiest way to know) are more than 3 weeks overdue
