ANTMINER S2 Discussion and Support Thread

Sent me a used antminer S1. Manufacturer date was 1/14. Order date was 3/14. Fan and heat fins were dirty and covered with dust. The antminer had been used from the time of production to the sale date. The heat fins were also physically damaged. Both blades were not soldered properly and were separating from the base. I have included pics so you can see for yourself. I contacted Juan from 112bit and he was not helpful at all. He told me i am not the manufacturer contact bitmain. He no longer responds to my emails. If you have any problems he will brush you off and say im just a distributor i cant help you contact the manufacturer. Do not buy from 112bit or bitmain. 112bit is just a middle man and can't do anything but take your money. Bitmain is a chinese manufacturer. They have low standards for quality. They will not accept any responsibility for anything. All of the financial burden is on the buyer. They do not care about their customers. All they care about is mass production and sales. This has been an ongoing issue. I have returned the antimner and requested a refund due to the amount of mining time lost waiting for a replacement. I was told i pay return shipping and they will give me a refund when delivered. After the antminer arrived in china i was told they will not give me a full refund. I am responsible for the original shipping cost, return shipping cost, and import tax both ways. I have not been told how much of a refund i will receive but it will be around $200 less than what i paid. And to be perfectly honest, i have a feeling bitmain will come up with some BS excuse such as it was not returned in the original condition and they can not give me a refund or replacement. May god help you if you buy a S2 from them. They have jerked me and given me such a hard time over a S1 i can only imagine the nightmare you will have to go through to get any kind of support for the much more expensive S2.

Did it hash at the advertised rate, or was it DOA?

i think no more than 25% which is not that huge.

25% out of the biggest difficulty yet is something From what i see on BitcoinWisdom it seems that we haven't reached or passed over 60k TH/s so the next difficulty jump after this one might be a very small one. Time will tell.

either way, i could only go again if the coupon i never got was worth 1000USD not a lousy 100.

i also hear people complaining about them not honoring the coupons they give to customers.

25% out of the biggest difficulty yet is something From what i see on BitcoinWisdom it seems that we haven't reached or passed over 60k TH/s so the next difficulty jump after this one might be a very small one. Time will tell.

you right if you compare biggest jumps. but history shows that 20% in real life is not that bad as later jumps are always smaller than predicted.

another fairly cheap solution is to replace the power supply with something beefier.  my personal recommendation (and what I did for myself) is to spend around $150 and purchase 2x of these 750w kits - http://www.gekkoscience.com/products/server_supply_breakout_board.html - and run them with power sharing pins and you have more than enough for the S2 (unless we figure how to overclock past 250mhz) and enough for 3 overclocked S1's.  and if you have one of these power supplies go bad you can replace it for a cheap $25 from ebay.  i keep an extra few on hand for myself anyway for rapid deployment for myself and customers.  if you want more info on the maker of these you can read this thread - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=379677

i have some of these boards and psu, what gauge wire did you use for the main lines? and what did you use for the current share pin to pin? i've been looking in vain for some time for a set of pin to pin female cables

i used 2 separate sets of 14AWG wire to connect the 2 PSUs together for current share.  the current share pin to pin i used a cable that i pulled from an old Dell machine that has about 10 connectors on it (i just cut the actual connector so that it would only have 1 wire/connection on it to make it easier to connect and deal with).

Right, because 20% of 60 penta is much more different than 20% of 1 penta.

Bitmain just issued my coupon for a B2 unit - Ive never had issues with thier coupons (other than the seemingly random values and distribution frequency as they sometimes are not rewarded for weeks after a purchase, and othertimes only a day or two after - either way a coupon is a coupon!)

S1 makes far more sense than an S2 right now. about half the price for a TH, but at twice the wattage and about twice the space requirements (and no PSU).

Well I cant speak to Juan at 112bit as he was not much help he seems to be just sales agent no technical knowledge....  but bitmain has blown me off when ever they cost me mining time.....so I hae to agree with you they have turned into bigger turds than the avalon clone morons.

Me I just went Spondoles but I may still buy some ants if they give a good coupon they probably used but not sure I will sping unless the couplon is more than .02 that is really a slap in the face considering the poor serivice and no recourse purchasing.

Bitmain just issued my coupon for a B2 unit - Ive never had issues with thier coupons (other than the seemingly random values and distribution frequency as they sometimes are not rewarded for weeks after a purchase, and othertimes only a day or two after - either way a coupon is a coupon!)

My only beef with Bitmain's coupons is that they expire too quickly (usually within a 3-4 weeks).  Sometimes I just want to sit on the coupons for a bit longer, but can't.

I just bought 4 more. Nothing can beat $1.65/GHs that I know of. At least nothing shipping.
Power is cheap in NJ, and I can always underclock to extend the S1 usable life.

I agree, but think its totally fair that they expire. Imagine using a 0.085BTC coupon at the current price - the sale would be nearly unprofitable for Bitmain at 0.55

Same here.  After a bit of a rough start (boards not slotted, browser interface still not working, and a mis-sized power cord), my S2 has been hashing away without issues.
