2081  Economy / Digital goods / Re: [WTS] Team Fortress 2 Keys on: January 17, 2013, 09:48:32 PM
Isn't TF2 free?

Keys open crates which carry statistically low chances of rewarding the crate opener with unique items that are highly prized within the TF2 community and can actually net some surprising coin from people who collect digital trinkets like that.

You may have been thinking key that authorizes use of a game and this is not that kind of key.
...right.  Smiley

Every response to becoin should now simply be "Take it to a courtroom."
2083  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: AMD ASIC? on: January 17, 2013, 09:46:53 PM
Isn't the volume required to access these foundries way above what makes sense for Bitcoin ASICs? I expect the minimum volumes to be in millions of $ or even 10s of millions but would like to get references on this subject.
That's why I'm thinking it'd be a larger-process fab (less demanded), using 65nm or maybe 40nm.
2084  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: Bitmit - Bitcoin shopping mall (Translators wanted) on: January 17, 2013, 09:43:10 PM
Then he wanted to sell it and made the auction and changed his mind again.

Twice.

Well, the second time (couple days or so ago) he didn't make an auction and didn't say he'd sell. He just said it was too much for him and he was going to shut it down. He reverted that later.

Or where you talking about a second auction? In that case I missed that.
Oh, good point.  I missed the bit about the auction (is it sad that I have reverted to skimming 15 word sentences?) - just read "sell it" and "changed his mind".
2085  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: WOW! BFL is refusing full bitcoin refunds! on: January 17, 2013, 09:38:23 PM
becoin: Did they promise to do full BTC refunds at any point ?
Do you have to respect the law if haven't promised to respect it?
Still waiting for you to provide any law or courtroom rulings that side with your point of view.
2086  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: AMD ASIC? on: January 17, 2013, 06:54:56 PM
Contact Global Foundries... AMD is now a fabless company.

Wouldn't be too hard to get them on board. They're experienced with 40nm and 32nm products, and rolling out 28m dies for their next gen products.

BFL (Or any ASIC developer) would definitely research them for their second gen products.

Course... that's if they ship their first gen products.
Yes, but AMD and GF still work very closely together, do they not?  AMD would still be responsible for everything but actually creating the chips, I would think!
2087  Economy / Speculation / Re: [Poll] How long until $1000 per 1 Bitcoin? on: January 17, 2013, 06:52:49 PM
I agree with evolve to an extent.  The current Bitcoin-QT is a huge barrier to a large number of potential users.  Blockchain.info is a perfect replacement (in that it is newbie-friendly and a web interface similar to what they already use for online banking), but for some reason, we aren't pushing newbies towards it from the bitcoin.org page.

Scams and thefts absolutely affect userbase as well.  Without the multiple hundreds-of-thousands-of-dollars-worth hacks, I am sure we would have a userbase at least double what it is now.  But even I am a bit afraid of keeping a large number of coins, just for the "what if" scenarios.  I can keep them on the QT client, but what if malware somehow infects my computer?  I could print a paper wallet, but what if my house burned down?  I could put said paper in a safe, but what if the safe was stolen?  I could put a copy at someone else's house, but what if they lose it and I am relying on something that isn't there as a backup?  Or what if someone steals it from their house?  I could encrypt it, but what if I forget the password?  I could write down the password, but where do I store it?  I could do one of those funky multi-key printed wallets, but what if it doesn't work?  Or what if too many n of m papers are lost, so I cannot piece it back together?

I just can't think of any way for me to store Bitcoins without making me nervous, especially as the dollar value of my holdings grow.  There isn't any insurance or other backups of said holdings.  It's not like my bank account, where if I see a charge I don't recognize, I can get my money back.  Once Bitcoins are gone, they're gone.  And once people understand that, I can imagine many of them have similar fears as I do.

All of this said, I do believe Bitcoin is an incredible technology, and I very much believe it will eventually be very successful.  I just think that it still has some serious walls to break down prior to that success.

It kind of sounds like a neat collectors item to invest in, but then I think, how much is this going to be worth in 10 years?  And compare it with how much I think BTC is going to be worth in 10 years....  Wink  I suppose my investment will stay in BTC then!
2091  Economy / Securities / Re: ASICMINER: Entering the Future of ASIC Mining by Inventing It on: January 17, 2013, 06:07:27 PM
However, the shareholders of ASICMINER are always in a better place

Props for the decency to present it as an equity deal from day one, rather than calling stock subscription "preorders" like everyone else.
I thought this was because the shareholders are actual shareholders in ASICMINER?  With BFL, the preorders are just that - preorders.
2092  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: WOW! BFL is refusing full bitcoin refunds! on: January 17, 2013, 06:02:19 PM
Why do people not get this? It was NOT priced in bitcoins!!! Here's an example of what did NOT happen...
You are wrong!!!
It WAS and still IS priced in bitcoins as well. I don't give wishful examples. I give proof!

That is not pricing in Bitcoins.  That is asking for payment in Bitcoins in an amount equivalent to the USD pricing.
2093  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: WOW! BFL is refusing full bitcoin refunds! on: January 17, 2013, 05:45:29 PM
Take it to a courtroom becoin, and prove us all wrong.  Until then, you're just making yourself look like an idiot here.
There is no point in responding to insults from people with large vested interest in BFL scam, SgtSpike. They are just that - BFL cheerleaders, jumping to defend the mood of their investors (pardon me, clients, as per BFL classification).
Ok, then take it to a courtroom and STFU about it here.

2095  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Anyone w/ FPGAs should keep their eye on this on: January 17, 2013, 05:17:26 PM
um why wouldn't you just keep mining with a fpga  they don't consume much power
and if they have already paid for them selves just keep mining withem

people still mined with gpus even after the fpgas came out
Because when you make 0.05 BTC a month, it doesn't make it worth it no matter how little electricity it consumes.

2097  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Anyone w/ FPGAs should keep their eye on this on: January 17, 2013, 12:24:29 AM
Some people donate to charity too.  That doesn't make much financial sense either.

It does make sense if you want a better world. I donate to a ton of charities that have a proven record and I like and write off the donations on my taxes. I live within my means and save a reasonable amount of money, too. I'd rather give the money to charity than the government, anyway.
I agree it makes sense, just not from the perspective of finances.  If you donate (which truly means giving money away without expecting anything equitable in return), then you are in a worse-off situation financially.  You exchange your donation for the feeling of doing some good in the world and for benefit given to other people.
2098  Economy / Goods / Re: official dreamcast magazine issue 0 on: January 17, 2013, 12:22:22 AM
You say it is worth a lot more, and while my limited internet research certainly shows it is relatively rare, I cannot find where anyone has bought or sold it.  Can you specify the source for your "it is worth a lot more" statement?
it is great condition also which is a major +. Last one i seen sell was at 99$.

Can you dig up a source for that sale?  Or was it not published online?  Or do you simply not remember where it was?

Yes, we both agree on both of those statements.

And for the right to say: I didn't say that it makes no sense for someone, I said it makes no sense to me to switch for the only reason that the current project doesn't make me profit anymore, especially because I think that the current project is the one that helps people now, while other projects might help someday, but maybe never will, outcome totally unknown.

Just my 2cents, nothing to worry about.
I'm totally fine if every FPGA-owner decides to switch to BOINC, I'll just let mine sit on Bitcoin, or shut them down completely if i can no longer afford the power. Donate them to BOINC? Not so much.

Ok, fair enough..!
