Yeah, if you're a girl. The M5 is 507 BHP. And the inside is like an airplane cockpit.
Lol?  Man, I thought I was done hearing "girly car" jokes when I got out of high school.

I understand different strokes for different folks, but if you're just going by HP, then why not pick up a Shelby GT500 and save a hundred G's?

I'm a big fan of lightweight cars myself.  The nimbleness and connectedness of them just reminds me of go-karts and makes any drive an absolute blast.  Cheesy  The M5 is just rather large and bulky, and disconnected from the road.  Don't get me wrong - I absolutely wouldn't turn down a drive in one, but I'd rather own a high-end Porsche.  Or a Z4M.
1162  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Memories of a Mania on: April 09, 2013, 07:49:49 PM
I'm sorry you typed all that.

The important thing is that we all now know that no one uses "websites" or "the Internet" anymore.
I think a big threat to Bitcoin is that a copycat (with better features) will become more successful.  Sure, Bitcoin has all the face time and momentum going for it now, but so did MySpace back in the day.  Technology is supplanted so quickly and easily.

It helps that Bitcoin isn't really a front-end, per say, but more of a back end.  More of the HTML to the web than anything - once everyone chooses to support and use HTML, support for it doesn't really end.  It is the de-facto web language that everything else is built upon.

OP's post is good though.  Everyone would do well to keep things in perspective and be cautious by hedging their bets and diversifying their holdings.

The current site owner no longer has interest in maintaining the site.  I am talking to him about taking it over and getting it back up and running!

Push incoming.

Damn Straight!

Bitcoin will reach $200 by May 1st 2013

Statement for betting: "The Mt Gox trade price of bitcoin will reach or exceed $200.00 prior to May 1st 2013"

The price will be checked on Mt Gox and bitcoincharts.com to verify whether this has occurred.

Editor's note: Threshold passed.

Where the fuck is it stipulated anywhere what the symbol $ represents? There is no motherfuckin' why that it can be viewed upon as the US dollar, given that a myriad of other countries use the same symbol, of which citizens of those countries all participate on their site.

The $ symbol is not even stipulated anywhere on their site as to what country it should be pegged to, and shouldn't be taken for granted that it's of the US dollar.

I'm sure I can hunt down at least one country that uses the $ symbol in their currency that would make this bet null and void, thus a push.

This bet is more ambiguous than the BFL April bet.
You have turned into quite an angry person...

Sadly, there's a little truth to your assessment, and with that, I apologize.

Later, bud.

Sorry, it's just I haven't seen any post from you that doesn't involve at least one instance of "fuck" or "fucking" in recent times.  Glad to hear that is not the case.

Blow me!  Grin

Later, bud.
Thanks for the offer, I'll pass!

Car looks cool but it ain't a M5 BMW.  Roll Eyes
Bleh.  I'd have this car over an M5 ANY day of the week!
1166  Economy / Goods / Re: [WTS] 40 BTC Bet with Micon regarding BFL on: April 09, 2013, 07:29:10 PM
That's a good bet, he wouldn't take one from me with the same exact terms so I expect he thinks he will lose. You might as well keep it...
I very much think I will win as well.  It's just that niggling feeling of "what if" and "holy crap, that's almost $10k" that makes me want to just be done with it.
1167  Economy / Speculation / Re: 20 calls a day from large asset managers looking to invest up to $100m. on: April 09, 2013, 07:27:31 PM
And YOU, sir, are severely underestimating the metering power of the MtGox queue!   Cheesy

Ah, but I have a...feeling Bitcoins are about to become a lot easier for people to purchase.
A feeling, eh?  What does that feeling involve, exactly?

Order numbers up to 34000 now.... I call bullshit on that.
Once again...

It generates an order number every time someone goes to checkout, whether they actually pay for it or not.
1170  Economy / Speculation / Re: $236 - What BS - Selling OUT today! on: April 09, 2013, 07:24:21 PM
Yep, having enough liquidity for people with real wealth to use it is a horrible, horrible thing for Bitcoin.  It'll be the death of the currency, for sure.

*bump*

Well, that's a little better, Bitcoin. Not good. But better. Now how about we quit playing games and get serious? I don't want to end up as one of those poor schmucks who still has to work when he's 35.  Wink
LOL, well, at what price point are you a millionaire?

Dang...
1174  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Future Bitcoin millionaires - will you cash out when you hit $1M? on: April 09, 2013, 06:34:50 PM
Cash out to what? Maybe gold if you want to diversify, but if bitcoin hits the 1M mark it's because fiat currencies are becoming totally worthless.
Sure, gold, becoming debt-free, buying a nice house, purchasing up rental properties, whatever.  I know I certainly won't be keeping my money in USD, but buying $1M worth of rental property with cash is a rather attractive proposition.
1175  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Isn't bitcoin getting greedy if you count the recent price rises? on: April 09, 2013, 06:03:23 PM
The fee system is certainly a point of discussion at the moment for the reference client developers. In a merge yesterday, the hardcoded KB fee in was brought down (0.005 to 0.001), so this will be in 0.8.2 and given that the miners go along, this should alleviate fee worries for a while.

However this solution of hardcoding a number is not sustainable. There can't be a new software rollout every time the price in $ changes. In the long run, it need to be the miners that determine the fee in a free market system and broadcast this somehow so that it can be determined dynamically.

I recommend searching the forums if you want more details; this has been argued to death, and it can't be solved by arguing about it more Smiley
Correction:  0.0005 to 0.0001.
1176  Economy / Gambling / Re: 80 BTC bet between Micon and mrb (are BFL ASICs real?) on: April 09, 2013, 05:59:36 PM
Micon - I would like to offer you the opportunity to buy out of our bet for 5 BTC.  So, of the 40 BTC we bet, I receive 35 BTC, you receive 5 BTC, and we call off the bet.  I doubt you'll take me up on this, but you never know, so... there's the offer.  Wink
1177  Economy / Goods / Re: [WTS] 40 BTC Bet with Micon regarding BFL on: April 09, 2013, 05:58:25 PM
Maybe ask Micon if he'll let you buy out of the bet for 5BTC or so?
Well, worth a shot I suppose.  Wink
1178  Economy / Goods / Re: [WTS] 40 BTC Bet with Micon regarding BFL on: April 09, 2013, 05:10:49 PM
OP only bet 20BTC, which would be a $4,000 bet now.  Still not chump change - and who knows, might be 40 large by the end of the bet.

I'm confused - why are you asking 35BTC?
Because the amount to be won is 40 BTC.
1179  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin will never reach $20 again on: April 09, 2013, 04:31:01 PM
I, for one, completely support the statement made by the title of this thread!
1180  Economy / Goods / [NO LONGER SELLING] 40 BTC Bet with Micon regarding BFL on: April 09, 2013, 04:22:54 PM
When I first made my bet with Micon, BTCs were worth maybe just a hair over $10.  $200 is an amount I am fully willing to bet on something I think is a sure thing, so I didn't think much of putting 20 BTC down on the bet.

Now, BTC is worth over $200, and that 40 BTC (total bet) is just too much for me to gamble with.  That's more money than I have ever really had.  I still very much believe BFL will deliver, but not having that money in-hand is eating me away...

So, I would like to sell my bet with Micon, if anyone is interested.  The agreed-upon details are below, but the essence of the bet is, as long as BFL beats Avalon's power figures and delivers by July 1st, the bet is won.

I think 35 30 BTC is fair (a free 10 BTC to anyone who thinks BFL will deliver by July 1st), but am open to offers as well.  The buyer will receive the Casascius-generated escrow code that I have, and a post in the "official" bet thread that this bet has been transferred over.

No Micon, I do not want to make the same bet you and MRB made.  That bet is also based on whether they meet specific MH/Joule requirements, which I do not want to bet on.  I want to bet on them delivering an ASIC device that works (creates valid hashes for the Bitcoin network) by the end of 2013, regardless of speed or power usage to at least two forum members that prove they are running (video or pictures or ??).

If you believe they aren't going to deliver (which is what you keep stating over and over again), you shouldn't have any problem with this.

When making a wager, both sides must agree.  If you look at mrb's and my discussion, a standard practice is to suggest terms, then refine on both sides until both parties agree.

To have a 20 coin bet with me I would like:

-- statement of a certain Mhash/Joule that proves that this BFL ASIC is a significant step up from the current top miners - that is the point of ASIC - to hash the proof-of-work problem much faster and more energy efficient than current FPGAs, as I understand it the current top dog - they claim ~ 20x-30x as fast right?  current FPGA top metrics around 25 Mhash/Joule?    Let's find a number you and I are both comfortable with it - as your statement reads, BFL could ship you some thumbdrive that creates 1 valid hash using your CPU and you would win the bet.

Also there is no need for taunting - I won't say to you "why won't you bet me at same terms if you are so sure BFL will ship an ASIC based on specs they describe?" - I will simply go back and forth and list out the terms that would make me accept the wager.

What about a statement such as 10x shipments at 5x current top Mhash/Joule ratings?   And excuse the newb-ness to mining, but what is top Mhash/J ATM?   it is FPGA cards?
Fair enough - I shall taunt no more.

I'll bet that BFL will put out at least as efficient as Avalon's advertised specs.  So that's 400w @ 60GH/s.  Is that agreeable?  It is a vast improvement over even FPGA's, where 60 GH/s would consume almost 6,000w.

I'd rather not go as high as 10 end customers, simply because it might be difficult to find 10 individuals willing to post proof of ASIC delivery.  I'm not sure that there's even 10 different people who have posted pictures of FPGA's.

So then, my new bet proposal is this:

I'll bet 20 BTC that BFL will ship out an ASIC miner capable of at least 150MH/s per watt to at least 3 end customers by the end of 2013.

You have a bet if you make it by 7/1/2013 - they said they ship in Feb. and I don't want to wait all year for this bet to settle.  Those 40 coins could be worth $10k by then and I may need a WSOP main even buy in Smiley

I feel 7/1 is more than fair given the current timeframe directly from BFL, it keeps everything nice and clean for me, and even allows you months and months of further delays past their posted timeframe.  If BFL is real, this seems like an easy win for you under these terms.
Ok, I can agree to those terms.

What's the next step?  I don't entirely understand Casascuis' escrow system yet...
Casascius - can you generate an escrow invitation for Micon and I on this bet?
