Oh okay my bad.

Well in the case of Men's IPL, i believe JIO is pretty much safe. Normally IPL is ad driven product for its broadcaster but in comparison to traditional TV. JIO is on steroids and an octopus in this context.

It'll still remain ad driven product as JIO already has close to 400+ Million active users in India. Apart from selling Subriciptions of JIO internet, JIO TV, JIO Music, apps (indirect revenue) etc it has a supermarket business too, which sells goods to its subscribers. Consumers will get all facilities on a single platform and they'll keep using it. It would give JIO the upper hand when dealing with ad rates as well.

Jio is taking a huge gamble here. All the other OTT platforms derive a majority of their income from subscription rather than advertisements. During the 2014-22 period, Indian economy grew at a rapid pace and that benefitted the television and OTT broadcasters. But there is no guarantee that the same will continue for the next 5 years (global economists have been warning about a recession since 2020). In India, a general election is due in around 12 months from now and there is a big risk for Jio if some kichdi government comes to power after the elections.
I remember the 2000s when Dhirubhai Ambani father of Mota bhai and Anil Ambani distributed millions of phones with free incoming-outgoing calls for just 500 rs. It was also a big gamble under kichdi government. We know how it revolutionized the telecom sector in India, the biggest winners were consumers. Not expecting any surprises in the next general election.

Apple doesn't fall from the tree (Anil was a bit failiure) but Mukesh Ambani proved that when he revolutionized internet Data and upped the game in the telecom industry (don't forget how Airtel, idea, Vodaphone used to exploit), again consumers were the biggest winner, and again I am expecting the same. Success and failure are part of the process but Ambani is no mug either.

He is now targeting Hotstar, Amazon prime & Sony LIV with his offer of free streaming of IPL. Like he destroyed Airtel, Vodafone and Idea with cheap data and calls. After this year free streaming of IPL matches these online streaming giants will have to offer the same or better offers if in cricket streaming to indian audience.

The second ODI will take place tomorrow, at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium in Raipur. I don't know much about this venue, but I guess it is just another India track which provides zero support for the bowlers. Morale will be high for both the teams - India after their win in the first ODI, and New Zealand after their incredible fightback with Michael Bracewell and Mitchell Santner. And toss will once agai have a big impact, with the team winning the toss very likely to electing to bat first under batsmen friendly conditions.
I am suprised that you are saying that Indian pitches provide zero support to bowlers. Please check the stats from the previous bilateral series between Srilanka and Newzealand. If Indian batters are batting extremely well then the pitches are not good for bowlers but if Indian batters are failing to score good then the pitch is good for bowlers. Hypocrisy at its best.

In the past, we have seen the Indian tracks being very helpful for spin bowlers. But in recent times we have seen the tracks get better for fast bowlers as well. And honestly, I do not think there is anything about hypocrisy. The condition of pitches changes even during a match. It is very easy for the players to bowl well and bat well in the same game.

So, I think it is not right to say that we do not find bowling pitches in India. And at the same time, it is also not right that the tracks that we find in India are always balanced.

Hypocrisy in this context meant being idiotic & stupid, when you know the game and still post irrelevant info in order to  get your signature campaign quota. Already their is neutral trust relevant to her/his posting.

The first bilateral series of this year with Srilanka, the Indian bowlers played a big role. In the current series against the Kiwis the pitch did help the bowlers but since the a single batter namely Gill & Bracewell batted excellently the match became entertaining.

2145  Other / Meta / Re: Binance pays Google Ads with the word "bitcointalk" on: January 20, 2023, 01:19:32 PM
When you place an advert on Google it will ask keywords which you want to target to a specific location. Sometime a keyword like Bitcoin for a specific location can trigger such result. Alternative it is a possibility that a specific country has got a large traffic on Bitcointalk and this may be the reason why they might have targeted this keyword.

It is just an advert and most cryptocurrency investors or enthusiast who have understanding about privacy will use ad blockers or ignore such advert. Those who are not that literate will fall for it.

I tried searching regularly on Twitch, Youtube, Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, but I am having a hard time, if anyone can help me will be awesome  Smiley Smiley Smiley

I think you should ask this on the Gambling Discussion child board. I am not sure whether you will find a list or names of gambling influencers on the Indian local board. Most of them go by pseudo names so it is hard to know whether they are Indian influencers.

There is an announcement from JioCinema regarding the live streaming of the IPL 2023 tournament. Matches will be streamed for free this season. They are selling advertisements on two formats - first one is for 10 second slots, which is similar to what we have on TV. Second format is for a fixed number of impressions, similar to how the internet advertisements work. The broadcast will be available in a total of 11 languages. They spent around ₹50 crore per match for the media rights purchase and I am not sure whether they will get any profit at all in the first year.
Not 50 CR but 7.09 CR per match

Their target should be 10-15% market capture of the existing IPL fanbase. I think this should cover them and this will ensure that it's not a loss making project.

Nope.. I wasn't talking about the WIPL. I was talking about the (men's) IPL. They spent ₹23,578 crore to acquire the media rights. There were 74 matches for the 2022 edition, and number of matches may go up slightly in the future. In total they may get 400-500 matches in the 5 year period. So the average spending comes down to approximately ₹50 crore per match. If the number of matches remain the same, then they are spending ₹63.72 crore per match. I am not sure how they will get returns anywhere near their investment. And they are solely depending on the advertisement revenue.
Viacom 18 is a product of Reliance industries. They gave free unlimited 4G data for a year before launching JIO. They are again giving unlimited 5G data till a pan India launch. Still their revenue hasn't declined and niether has the revenue of Viacom18. You do not need to think about how they will make money as Mota Bhai knows how to succeed that is why he is in the Forbes list.

Agreed, this decision should've been taken years back.15 years passed. In the meantime it is the politics that doesn't let WIPL. Right now we've got good development in the women's cricket and that means it to be the right time than getting delayed. Change of representatives too a reason for the approval and now the authorities were quite strong that IPL will stay strong amidst the existence of any premier leagues around the world.

Yeah.. better late than never. But I believe that they could have increased the number of teams to 8. The current number of participants (5) is too low I'm afraid. There is enough talent pool available within India, and then each of the franchises will be able to field 4 foreign players in their playing XI. So they could have gone with 6-8 teams. Anyway, I believe that an expansion will take place sometime in 2024-25. And although the franchises are yet to be announced, my suggestion is to give preferences to cities such as Guwahati and Indore that are not represented in the IPL.
I doubt if they have a large talent pool atm that can sustain close to 8 teams, at least it looks like it.

One of the reasons they are allowing 5 foreign players in the playing XI, including 1 player from associates.

At the moment on 5 IPL teams have expressed in funding the WIPL teams. Punjab Kings, Kolkata Knight Riders, Chennai Super Kings, Rajasthan Royals, and Delhi Capital's. Others will follow them if the first season is a success. I also think lack of talent pool might be another reason why other IPL franchise have not shown any interest. The player auction are supposed to happen in the month of February.

Hats off to Michael Bracewell.

At one point it was a dead chase where they were at 131/6 and from there he took a charge and gave his team big hope of winning the match and doing so gave a good scare to the Indian team but Lord Thakur was playing for India lol

Gill is proving his worth in ODI and it seems it's his fav format.
Really man what a match it would have been if Bracewell would have taken it away. All the happiness of Gill's double hundred would have turned into sadness. But these kind of comebacks prove why New zealand is number 1 team in ODIs right now. Doing such things that also in away matches. But hats off to Gill. I believe Gill and Kishan is now the future opening pair India can look upto. And too early to say I know but Gill can prove to be the next run machine for India after Sunil Gavaskar, Sachin and Virat. But Gill has to improve himself to adapt in other formats as well. He won't get a lot of opportunities, being in the team is too competitive right now.
Gill is an excellent batter but the problem with him is that he takes time to get set and aslo doesn't take any risk. That is the reason why he is not suitable for T20 format. Ishan Kishan suits more as a T20 batter as he is quick and is also not afraid to take risk. Too much competition between these two players but only one would get an opportunity to be part of playing 11 in the upcoming world cup.

What are everyone's thoughts towards my approach of conducting a final raffle?

I am pretty much excited with your approach of conducting a final raffle. I used to wait for it in the past. Yes, I agree a lot of members have shifted to Telegram & Reddit but those who are here need to be active from time to time. I do not think that we do not have anything or any news to discuss on this board. A little bit of encouragement by senior members and Merit sources can again bring back members here.
2152  Local / India / Re: Cryptocurrencies Should Be Banned in India - RBI Governor on: January 19, 2023, 12:27:35 PM
The government will eventually will bow down to RBI but I am pretty sure it won't happen this year. As central election is scheduled to happen in 2024 the government would not be willing to hurt any community. Already they have succeeded in reducing traffic to indian exchange. Most crypto investers and traders are already using international exchanges.  This year would be safe and if any bad decision has to come it will happen after the election.
2153  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Test Cricket Prediction and Discussion Thread [self - mod] on: January 19, 2023, 07:19:07 AM
The experience from T20 and Test matches were completely different. For that we can't say the player who had performed well can't play good in test matches. In the past we used to hear the statement, Sachin's records can't be beaten. What is happening. Virat Kohli is so close and soon he'll beat all the records. Same as that, in bowling we've got legendary bowlers from Australia and for the same it doesn't mean the present bowlers are down to them in performance.

Sachin himself in an interview had said that one batter that can beat his record is Kholi. Sachin was from an era when an umpires was the only decision makers. Virat is from an era where apart from the umpires there are softwares that help the umpires to make a decision. Still if Kholi is able to beat Sachin's record then it is a great achievement for him.

Therefore I would still rate Sachin ahead of Virat. And one more thing. Sachin was a gentleman, both on and off the field. Unlike Kohli who behaves like a Baboon.

Sachin is a legend! These new age batters grew up watching Sachin play cricket. He is still a gentleman on and off the field. His simplicity is what made him the God of Cricket. I also agree Kholi behaves like a Baboon on the field not sure how he behave off the field.

At one point I had a feeling that India would lose the Indian bowlers were struggling to get Bracewell. Thanks to Thakur he was out at 140. India won by just 12 runs all because of good batting by Bracewell. MD Shiraz had another good spell as he got 4 wickets. He has confirmed his berth in the world cup squad after yesterday's performance where he again took 4 wickets. Overall a good chase by the Newzealand team.

Management will not give rest to Rohit and Kohli from the ODIs because WC is on the line and no one is going to replace Rohit in ODI at least this year. Sanju is injured.

Rohit is not going to be replace for the next couple of years as India is still testing Vice Captains. Till the world cup these two shouldn't be rested both are looking good with bat. The continuation will help them a lot  when they play in the world cup.
That's what the management thinking and it's logical so can't blame them.

--------------------------
India got off to a good start but Indian openers are hardly rotating strikes.

59 runs in 11 overs and just 5 singles, they are only banking on boundaries. Not bad but at the same time they are playing lot of dot balls which is not good practice.
What a fabulous batting by Shubhman Gill. He became the youngest batter to score a double century. If he had also gotten out cheaply like the others then India wouldn't have given a massive target of 349 runs. Another dominating performance by India because of this young batter. Now it's time for the bowlers to get wickets.

Australian former cricketers gunning for their team to win Border Gavaskar Trophy. Legendary WK Gilchrist draws a comparison to the 2004 BGT series and thinks current Aussie can repeat the same but surprisingly he's banking on fast bowlers, not spin.

Then we have some delusional ones like Ian Healy, making dumb statements like "Spin decks are unreasonable " lol.

They are saying that because they know the current Australian side struggles with spin bowling. I am sure many other Australian veterans will come up with the same or another weird theory in order to create a pressure on the Indian team, before the series. This has been a habit of Australia before the BGT. With the current form of senior Indian batters it would be easy for them to handle pace attack of Australia. In 2004 Shane Warne was effective against India but Jason Gillespie and Glen MCGrath were on fire in the two matches that Australia won.

Word is that Axar is getting married, his career shaping up nicely and becoming a good asset for India but Sundar will replace him and he's a handy cricketer as well, also considered a superior bat than Axar so it should be okay.

Sundar is a good all rounder and better with bat than Axar but in recent times Axar has proven himself as a mature all rounder in all format of cricket. He was supposed to be the replacement of Jadeja.

The Indian sub has really low engagement which is the reason why most of us don't post in this sub these days.
Besides that, the government hasn't been showing support to crypto currencies which is another reason why new members aren't joining the forum and hence no posts in Indian sub.
Although high taxes are imposed on crypto trading I really don't think that the government will, at any point of time in future, completely ban crypto trading as @pakhitheboss mentioned.
Also, there are talks about a CBDC launching soon so lets see how that gets implemented and how things go forward for crypto in India.

I don't think government taxes are is the main issue for low engagement. What I feel is not helping good topics to come up is merits distribution. I too avoid giving merits to news or promotion on this board.

Although, I tried my level best to get traction on this board but non of those merit source ever looked on those reply, topics, threads and anything. They were only focusing on thier betterment rather the board itself

.They also were too much engaged considering what could make this board interactive. They were only focusing on what is profitable for them.

I still believe we can get his board active. All we need to do is encourage those who create topics that are engaging & giving them merits for thier effort. I do not see such attitude in the coming near future as most of our Merit source are least interested.

There wasn't much interest from the broadcasters for WIPL but still, it found the bid for 5 year contract worth close to 1000 cr INR.

Also, Mumbai is hosting the first season, ideally, it should have been all metro cities but it's fine as they are still testing the waters.

As per me, this is the best deal that you can get! Considering that it is a women based cricket game! In reality the WIPL, before it's inception is more profitable than the PSL.  Grin

If you talk about women uplifting! Women freedom!  Women sports! Then WIPL will deliver it. All it needs to do is get those views and since Mumbai provided a venue where they got the highest spectators on a woman bilateral cricket match, WIPL got those allocations on Mumbai pitches. I think it is a smart move by BCCI.

Shreyas Iyer ruled out of the India VS Newzealand ODI due to back injury. He will be now replaced by Rajat Patidar. I think it all depends on whom Rohit Sharma would select tomorrow as he has got other options too. It would be interesting to see who gets that opportunity. In all a competitive ODI series is expected as both these team have recently won ODI series respectively.
