2141  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: [WTS] A metric ton of 1200W PSUs, mobos with 5 slots PCIe x16 on: January 17, 2013, 02:11:21 PM
I bought a board combo and 5970 from this gentlemen and I can only give my highest rating on how he handles business. First off, he held these things for at least 2 weeks while I found a way to buy bitcoins to pay him when he could of sold the 5970 in a heartbeat. Secondly he was nice enough to split shipping costs being as I live in Canada it was pricey! Thirdly, the condition of these items was beyond my expectation, being used, I suspected some noticeable wear, but I couldn't find any! Thanks again Mrb!  Grin
I offered to buy some stuff but never got a reply, so I bought from someone else

I believe it was a MB + 2 video cards

2144  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: SERIOUS VULNERABILITY related to accepting zero-confirmation transactions on: January 15, 2013, 03:42:29 PM
They are not related to the vulnerability discussed in this thread.
Your bitcoin node is complaining about transactions that do not meet the minimum relay fee. So basically what it tells you is that it will not forward the transactions to other nodes in the network. These transactions may however still reach a miner and get included in a block as some nodes have other relay policies and/or are connected directly to a miner who includes any transaction regardless of fees. This is for instance the case with the first one on your list: ee1a7973ffe7f2515f6c12526b90f6255ca13bbe776e082bf0178d65663eeba9

I think they are related, in that someone was trying to exploit (or test) it.  I mean, why else would you throw around 20 .000082 transactions at once?

I know how the relay works.  I'd like to designate these transactions as 'misbehaving', but not with a huge 24hr ban, more like 1hr.  I'll probably change it in my client later.

They start at 2013-01-15 10:40:03 and end at 10:58, about 400 in total, on that IP.  There was one other German node that was getting some first and also a UK node.

can anyone tell me where all these 0 fee blocks spamming my logs are coming from?

i already got rid of the 2 IPs it's showing as relaying on blockchain

i guess i need to add IPs to transactions in source too =/

Anyone who's experiencing the memory leak: If you felt comfortable giving me SSH access to the host running P2Pool to try to diagnose the problem, it would help a lot! I've been unable to replicate this.

the memory thing could possibly be linked to establishing an extra outgoing connection that isn't supposed to be established, they seem to coincide with the straight angled mem usage
i got 50 outgoing cons and got 423MB mean usage, so this isnt possible.
well, if your limit is set to 50, have you had 51?

I was checking out some of the dedicated hosting offers on webhostingtalk (looking for something in SE Asia or around Russia) and stumbled across this:

http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?t=1227127

We now accept Webmoney and Bitcoin!

the prices arent too bad if managed is your thing, but i have no clue as to their reputation.  according to their faq, it's not a reseller.

just figured i'd post it on here as I didnt see much else, except a couple of ppl trying to resell them for bitcoins (and some OVH post from 2010).... but I didn't look too long  Wink

http://www.webhostingtalk.com/search.php?searchid=44555222

though that search brings up quite a few more things

I am using Linux too. Thanks.
That's a kind of a hax, by the way. P2pool itself could implement some technique of rolling peers until those with optimal latency are found.
What command you're using to remove peer?
Can you share script you're using to ping peers? I am sure you're using one:) Pinging manually all peers from p2pool_address:port/peer_addresses may take time to do by hand;)
actually, i did just do it manually.  i had forgotten about 'pings', thanks.

it didn't take that long though, since i had my connections limited to .. 14, I think it was... (12 now)

i use tcpkill to kill peers, it's in the repository as 'dsniff' i think?

re: thing about >100ms,   i said in an earlier msg that it was good that I had some US peers with 130ms.  i don't remove someone at 130ms.  i do if they're at 300ms, or someone that jitters from 150ms to 600ms, stuff like that.  you can make a bunch of screens and just use mtr for a little bit to see if they are having bandwidth issues
2151  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [400GH/s] p2pool: Decentralized, DoS-resistant, Hop-Proof pool on: January 13, 2013, 12:02:26 AM
zvs, how exactly are you removing peers from your p2pool? Or how are you checking their latency?
http://xxx:xxx/peer_addresses shows the peers connected on the web interface... or you can use netstat -p -n --tcp in linux (and look for python).  netstat would work on windows too, but not sure if you can list by program or not... you could tell by the ports, I guess.

There might be a way on the web interface to see latency... there used to be at one point.  I'm not sure what it is anymore, or if it still exists...  I use mtr in linux to check ping times, or from a command prompt in windows you can just use ping -t xx.xx.xx.xx

it was stable at 1.11-1.12 for a while, last time it stopped after i moved my log file to backup and removed a couple of peers that had changed overnight.   the log file is about 1/5th the size it was earlier, so that's not it.  i haven't done anything on my system

i've had a few peers change.  one of them is >300ms with tons of packetloss and connected at 3PM.    I also moved the log file to backup again at 3:03PM..

nothing in the logfile appears out of the ordinary

going to restart it now  (for the record, since 3PM I've gotten 2 orphans and 1 DOA out of 16 shares.  it was  476 (16 orphan, 16 dead) at 3:03pm

It took me so long to get the right peers, too... I'm going to hate to reset it later  Angry

hmm, I guess maybe just add the ones I want and remove the getaddr

i suppose it's a coincidence that it's flat lined again after i moved my log to backup?

9:05am - i just swapped a few peers.  see if it starts going up again

Node uptime: 1.742 days Peers: 14 out, 0 in

actually, looking at the graph:

http://nogleg.com:9332/static/graphs.html?Day

it appears as if something happened at 6pm (there was an outgoing peer I wasn't supposed to have that disconnected, then it's gone up in a straight line since?)

change the priority of that process to real-time

it should be fine with that.  if you're, say, running four 5870's on a single core sempron, then you wouldn't want to use real-time, just high...

and drop the 5870 to 965-170 at 128 worksize    (or maybe 965-195 in phoenix)

While we ponder this, if you are worried about this, there is a fairly straightforward workaround that will make you immune from this.

Run two bitcoin daemons.  One that is a full peer in the network, but has an empty, never-used wallet.

And another with a full wallet that connects to the full peer. You could even run them both on the same machine (you'll use double the CPU and disk space, unfortunately).

RE: "I better alert people before they can be tracked" :

Dan Kaminsky demonstrated that it is pretty easy to tie bitcoin addresses to IP addresses by watching the network last year. If you are worried about being tracked, you should be running bitcoin over Tor and connecting to only trusted nodes. We make no anonymity guarantees.

i entrust nogleg with all my transactions
2157  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: bitcoin-qt not updating new blocks on: January 11, 2013, 01:16:12 AM
I have an issue with bitcoin-qt which has stopped downloading new blocks for more than a day (stopped at block 215809).
There's a message in the status bar saying something like "Alert : displayed transactions might be incorrect. You or other network nodes might need to do an update" (translated from french).
I do have 10+ connection so that shouldn't be the problem. I tried a -rescan without success.
Version is the latest from ubuntu repositories, OS is an updated ubuntu (12.04 LTS), datadir is on a encrypted (AES iirc) usb stick.

Any idea what might be wrong ?
I guess I could just erase every file except my wallet.dat an re-download everything, but just in case there's another solution I prefer asking.

i think that's caused by having some incompatible .log file in the database folder.   i've always just redownloaded everything,

though i'm sure there's an easier way to do it

Running bitcoind, the service behind qt is the simplest valuable contribution to the network.

Perfect, thanks for your suggestion.
Using the bitcoind service is definitely the right way to go (didn't know this, as I was normally using the windows Qt client).

I guess I should disable the default 8332 port (and open 8333), right?
Also because I've to specify username/pass for that configuration, as this is unknown to user "Anonymous".

My goal is to be a "supernode" for relaying blocks and transactions, and clients can use my server to download the blockchain.

Could you guys give me a few hints regarding the configuration?

Also regarding the fact this server is directly connected to the internet and has IPv4 & IPv6 available. Besides that, under the Windows client I'm often facing I'm not getting higher than 8 connected clients, of course I not want this for this "supernode" (the server used should be able of 1000+ connections).
Any idea's regards to that issue, as using UPnP doesn't make sence (as it's directly connected to the internet)?

edit the source code to allow more

set a decent password, like 4o3@OJdmXZLF:M4 l23jO$:J343$OJCMZXLK:OIDPWJA and 8332 doesn't need to be disabled.  there are some programs you might use where you'd want to have your rpc port open.  change the port # if the password itself doesnt make you feel safe.   8333 needs to be open if you want to accept outgoing connections

edit your ethernet settings to accomodate a thousand people sending mostly small bits of data

Dear TRC users, pls upgrade your Terracoin client and p2pool. There is at least 3 nodes that are messing in TRC pool:
Code:
88.69.122.87
94.219.158.58
188.97.132.96
I have blocked this IPs because of huge wasted traffic (peers are asking for shares over and over again).

along these lines, I've been trying to optimize my own peer list by seeing which ones send dupe transactions, which ones never are the 'first' to send me a new share, etc.  i guess it isn't 'fair' to ppl on bad connections, but..  i've been able to up my max blocksize to 100,000 and now at 51 shares w/ 1 orphan and 1 dead.  you can expect around 3-5% just on sheer chance, really.
2160  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Anyone still buying GPUs? on: January 07, 2013, 05:24:38 AM
Yes, I do. 5850/70 if less than $60, and 6950 if less than $120 (got mine for that recently). If it is cheap enough, there is close no no risk, I will buy it and mine on it until I feel the price has catched up - then I sell the HW and invest in something new again.
I'd buy a dozen 5870's for $75 each as long as they were all in working condition... you could sell them on eBay for at least 33% profit...  not sure about the 5850 and 6950 pricing
