A question for those in the UK, has anyone had a call from UPS about the value of an Antminer without calling them calling UPS first?
Yes me. Check my last 5-6 posts in this topic, which are precisely about this. Got an email to confirm the value and was told I can pay over the phone later this evening or directly to the courier during delivery on Monday. I understand you got one Cyper, I was really asking who else got a call because the shipment is in Mumbai and would not have gone through physical clearance in Castle Donnington so I am confused as to why you got singled out for such a call.

Why are we still bumping this thread and asking if it's legit or not. A look at the website should tell you it's a scam immediately. We are not in the bfl/avalon era anymore. Time to wake up people...
Clearly it is not legit. Unlike the live UnicronHasher which was featured on the cover of Bloomberg's businessweek magazine.... I hope my preorder went through for that. Hopefully your pre-order was for a subscription to Bloomberg's businessweek magazine because if it was either of the former you might be disappointed

Simple and doesnt need to be a lie.. http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Application-specific_integrated_circuitSo just tell them its fpga and you have a project that requires custom programming with fpga.. I would avoid mentioning word cryptography. . Especially when you mention china.. Got a call from UPS to confirm the value of the items as there was a mismatch between the invoice and the reported value - no idea what that means. They send me an email to which I just replied that I am a private buyer and confirmed the value of $120.
UPS also attached a copy of the invoice that states: Computer Game Gateway, so I wonder if UPS decides to ask questions how do I best explain what I am buying, so it doesn't raise any concerns.
Just explain that they're high performance cryptographic machines, coming from China. Customs loves that. That sounds too suspicious Any other plusible explanation? The description on the invoice is already a lie: they think its hardware for gaming. I might be just paranoid, but I want to know what to say if they start asking questions Just say 'I know, it is an absolute bargain" and that you could not refuse at that price! What is an absolute bargin Imagine they call you and ask: what is the item exactly? Just say 'How much is the tax', 'Can I pay it by card' and pay it. In the long run it is the cheapest option. If you question the amount of tax they will get more interested, if you enter into a discussion then the tax will go up, if you do not pay the tax you will not get it and would have lost what you have paid for it.

I'd go through network with 3 Antminer S1
And then he would not be running cgminer on and old P4.

Well the point would be so that whoever is running the hardware has to choose between BTC or something else. With todays diff change, we have already seen a rise in diff in other alts like EMark, OpenSourceCoin and Battlecoin. This is to "arb" the price down to what BTC currently makes, because most SHA256 Alts historically make less than what BTC makes. However, this also means that provided that no new hardware delivers, the next BTC diff change should be slightly less than what it was today, percentage wise.
It is a zero sum game, arb + BTC = total price = just BTC

We can all agree that there is only so much hardware that can mine BTC. I remember when I started mining LTC at less than 100 Diff, only to watch it pump to over 600 Diff. So what did people who were late to the game do? They create Feathercoin. Feathercoin started the great altcoin rush of 2013. This actually slowed down the growth of LTC network diff and allowed people to mine at a higher profit than LTC.
So why don't we create more alt SHA256 coins. Most altcoins that exist are only being used by traders on exchanges anyways. We don't need mass adoption as a currency. We have BTC for that. But traders love to get their hands dirty with anything that moves. So you only need to create a coin that will list on an exchange and on coinchoose/coinwarz. This will make SHA256 Asic hardware move off BTC and into other alts, perhaps slowing down the insane diff increases we keep seeing.
thoughts?
And then we can merge mine them at the same time as BTC.....

Not unless they've copyrighted a photo ...
Besides, BFL and KNC did the same things, they took a photo of a chip and then CAD/photoshopped, until they had actual designs.
So if they have not paid the copyright then it is still illegal but that's okay because other have done something similar. Reminds me of the girl who sold her virginity on the Internet but claimed she was not a prostitute because she only done it once

And your USB ASIC or GPU is......?
If you mine scrypt you need 2GB or your hash rate will be low
|
|
|
I have a .bat file wich starts cgminer. take a look: I didnt do any other configs. You are trying to mine scrypt, you need to add --scrypt to make it work

Why do I think that loads of people whining at UPS because UPS has a plane problem is going to f^&k it all up for the rest of us.
'Ohhh....my important box worth $120 is going to be a couple of days late and is going to cost me lots of missed BTC's'
Hmmmm...important $120 computer game gateway.....I smell a con says UPS, I think we will tell Customs to investigate.

This is not the response we wanted to receive as you can imagine from the community!
...
I hope this helps clarify some peoples responses to my announcement.
Your post has caused quite a stir. If you are a genuine UK company then you will know about the EU Distance Selling Regulations that force both refunds and a cooling off period. You need to change you T&C's to meet the laws of the UK. Companies House has no record of your company and your web site shows you are not a limited, is this correct? Your company expects to sell more than the VAT threshold equivalent in the next three months but your prices do not display if VAT has been paid, are you registered for VAT, if so what is your VAT number, if not can you please explain why not? Your address is the same as one of CMS Ltd addresses, is CMS your parent company, or is your company an offshoot built by staff from them?

So after tinkering around a little, i found board 1 of my miner is under performing. It only runs around 60GH by itself instead of 90GH. I sent bitmain an email, hopefully i can get this replaced. Has anyone had a rma with bitmain before?
You will get this error is the board is not receiving enough power. Have you swapped your power leads around between the boards to see if the fault follows.

I have been using the earlier grey & black ones that they used to sell, same thing. Easy to move, I have a couple of these dotted around the house keeping rooms warm that we move when we want heat somewhere else. I have found that a couple of wooden spacers help to keep the Ant's cool if they are overclocked along with snipping the plastic out of the out the air paths

I had a similar problem, drop the engine clock on the 4th card to 950 and then slowly bring it back up, in steps leaving it long enough to fail. I have four cards in one rig where all the cards run at 1100 apart from the last one on the bus which will only run at 1025, swap the cards and the problem stays with the slot rather than the card.
