221  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [NXT] Nxt - Official Thread on: May 06, 2014, 09:03:04 PM
I am on OSX running the Nxt client through the Terminal. How do I properly shut it down so that it compresses the database? So far I've just been closing the Terminal window, but that's not ideal.

(I didn't see this addressed in the wiki, so I'm asking here.)

Counterparty Digital Asset company DigitalTangibleTrust makes Business Insider's Article:

"10 Most Promising Startups Building Stuff with Blockchain Technology"

http://www.businessinsider.com/10-most-promising-blockchain-companies-2014-5

Congratulations! Nice exposure.

I like that I can say, "Hey, I sorta know those guys."

Edit: How did BI hear about your project?

can someone send me a message to test this feature out?   11274042109288826540

-bm

You can create several accounts and send messages or NXT back and forth between them. Just open another tab in your browser with the localhost address, and create a new account.

Followup:

Two secret admirers/benefactors have just sent me 500 NXT each! Their Nxt address has not been published on BTT or nxtforum, so I don't know who they are. But thank you for supporting me and affirming the gesture I made. Perhaps, in the right community, one does reap what one sows.
225  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [NXT] Nxt - Official Thread on: May 04, 2014, 06:27:10 PM
@sparta_cuss, if the big stakeholders were the half generous you are, NXT community would be the greatest and most developed community of all cryptos.

I can only thank you for your "donations" and your positive point of view.

Cheers man!  Smiley

Thanks, ShroomsKit_Disgrace. Just trying to do my little part.
226  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [NXT] Nxt - Official Thread on: May 04, 2014, 04:16:04 PM
Dido for me, if you have more to share my address is 6059522116849959387

Peace.

Btw on one of the nxt pages it says to contact people on the giveaway pages or something like that, but there is no link.  Is there somewhere we can more officially display our addresses to the founders to get some Nxt.

My plan is to give some out to all the bitcoiners at the next meet up here in Seoul.

If you take a look at the NXT blockchain explorer of Sparta Cuss account  http://87.230.14.1/nxt/nxt.cgi?action=3000&acc=14748981975238803545   you will see that he is not holding too many NXT, yet he just part away with his 1000 NXT.

So don't expect that he will send everybody 500 since his 25,000 NXT stash will melt very fast in this way.

If anything, you just witnessed what great people are in the NXT community, when one guy holding 25,000 NXT (I am not saying this is a small amount, but comparing to people holding millions it is) sends 1000 NXT, than what can you say about a one community. When you add development on the top of this and other community members that are around for almost 5 months now, than you get a feeling that NXT will be going places in the future!

100% best community out of all crypto's out there, I can vouch for that!

Thank you for your comment, zorke.
I do have more than what you see in that account, but I've bought at market prices, which were often a lot higher than now. This is part of my retirement fund, so I have to be careful with it. But I do think it's important to contribute in some way. I can't write code, so donating to some members who seem like they can contribute to the community is the best I can do right now.

I suspect that some members of the community might not like such giveaways, since they, for the most part, have also had to buy NXT on the market. Giving away something that has value can sometimes undermine that value. So we should be careful with what and how much we give away and why. I was just getting impatient, I guess, and wanted to light a few fires to get something going and to feel like I was contributing.

Ok, I just sent you each 502.

CurbsideProphet, be sure to send one NXT out of your account in order to generate a public key and make it more secure.

I don't have a huge investment here, so these contributions are meaningful amounts for me. Don't worry about paying me back. Just say good things about me (even if you have to make stuff up), and help Nxt succeed, and that's payment enough.

should I have received them by now?  -bm

I just checked the block explorer and they are in the address you posted. Are you not seeing them in your client?

nope.

-bm

Can someone with more technical expertise help bluemeanie1 investigate?

Hello, CurbsideProphet

I understand your hesitation and appreciate your criticisms, though I don't quite agree with all of them.

I want you to take a test drive. Have you set up one of the clients? When you do, create an account and post your Nxt address, and I'll send you 500 NXT to play with.

I'm not an original stakeholder, but I have a few to share.

Much appreciated.  I have an account, the number is:  17353422140744959965

Once I'm able to get a feel for the software and the forging process, I'll return them to you.

if you're giving some out:  11274042109288826540

thanks,  -bm

This so-called dilution concern has reminded me of a corny joke.

"Hey, Pal, your pizza is ready. You want me to slice it into six pieces or eight?"

"You better slice it into only six. I can't eat eight."

Yay!
I mean, +1

What does it mean if an order match is expired?
The order duration is determined by an amount of yet to be mined blocks. Expired = amount of blocks has been reached without execution/match.

Order match expired means:

* There was an "order match" between 2 orders
* One order involved the payment of BTC
* The side that was supposed to pay BTC did not do so within the required timeframe after the order match

Therefore the "order match" expired.

Do I need to manually approve a transaction? I thought if there is a buy order higher than my sell order, it gets executed automatically.

By default, Counterwallet handles the last step itself, but only if you remain logged in.

Otherwise it expires?

Does this mean that if I create an order selling 100 XCP for 0.005 BTC each and I log out for a week, my order won´t get executed if someone creates a 100 XCP buy order for 0.005 BTC each?

Only the person selling the BTC needs to remain logged in, but yes.

I'm confused. Is the relevant issue that it's BTC that is being sold? Or does the seller of any asset need to remain logged in?

any other news ? Is LTBcoin and Permacredits gonna make waves like maidsafe ?

in my opinion no - this is an organically growing project - which is totally fine. https://www.counterparty.co/counterparty-founders-inside-bitcoins-hong-kong

there three reasons for the very low market cap: 1.) the widespread distribution and still relatively good prices to sell for burners. 2.) there is in fact not much use for the currency xcp until now (despite dividend function - I think this will change) 3.) uncertainty due to the discussion with bitcoin core developers.

Good list. I would add a 4th item: The assumption that there will be sidechains and that these will solve everyone's problems and make XCP irrelevant. Sidechains got quite a lot of press a few weeks back.

There are still significant problems with implementing sidechains, and there's still not even a whitepaper. Not all of the bitcoin core devs even support sidechains right now.

So coingifts wants 3.5BTC for the ROCKMINER asset.  That seems reasonable to me.

Buy it now Bid: 10BTC

I don't think anyone else is bidding.  If they do they're hoping to sell for more and that seems like a silly strategy given that the ROCKMINER company hasn't even decided to participate in Counterparty.
About ROCKMINER ,the CEO of the ROCKMINER said he can  use another name on Counterparty if he wants issue his stock on Counterparty.

So sad news to coingifts, haha.  The value of ROCKMINER asset name is 0 now?

Hahaha, are you so happy?

Use another name is not a good idea. You know

UPDATE:

Asset name squatting is obviated. Please, people, don't bid for this asset name.

Please see the posts in the Counterparty forum here:
Counterparty Forums » General » Development & Technical Discussion » TL:DR of Asset Name discussion

According to xnova, "Note that counterwallet allows for enhanced asset info (today, it works). See https://wiki.counterparty.co/w/Enhanced_Asset_Info_in_Counterwallet for more info."

According to cityglut, "Asset name-mapping can be determined at the client level in any number of ways, without changing the protocol."

So, coingifts, you can keep the ROCKMINER name all to yourself.

What did you do, bring in more buyers?  Wink

imo, maid safe coin looks like a scam.  this will deal a big blow to master coin

Are you sure? This looks like a pretty legitimate project.

Who else lost coins by switching to the new counterwallet and how ? Mine is fine as of today. I hear 2 users see 0 balances, danbarron lost btc.

The theft of danielpbarron's BTC is separate from the (predictable) confusion resulting from switching to the new address-generation algorithm, which requires the sweeping of funds from old.counterparty.co. If the former was due to a bug in BitcoinJS (unclear), then it was independent of the latter.

I did not sweep. I just did individual sends for BTC and XCP. (That will work, right?) I'm in the middle of my last BTC send now, and everything has gone smoothly.
