221  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: WTS 3 individual L3+ Hashboards - 2 good, 1 bad on: October 04, 2020, 08:05:26 PM
I know you can flash l3++ firmware onto l3+ and it runs fine, so probably, but I can't guarantee it.  Anyone else know?

L3++   are simply better binned chips they should work but as we found out flat cap boards and round capped boards may not fit in the same unit.

So @ mopar take screen shot of your boards back and front match with fyoung boards.
222  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Trump has Coronavirus :( on: October 03, 2020, 07:12:15 PM
My prediction is that Trump will be fine and have a speedy recovery with no long term ill effects whatsoever..

Pretty safe bet on your part. Very likely to happen that way. His illness if he recovers fast with no side effects will be a great advertising strategy for the drugs used to treat them.

Got the covid , drink trump cocktail  it well make you great again
223  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: It is 2020 time for a new diff thread. on: October 02, 2020, 06:58:42 PM
Well diff looks to drop a bit.  WE ARE about 300 blocks to go.

An interesting twist here is Potus and Fotus getting covid-19. Markets dropped a bit as more 2020 uncertainty has occurred.  A long serious bout with this covid for trump could shake market confidence a lot.
224  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Presidential debates on: October 02, 2020, 04:31:36 PM
Trump is not going to not participate in the next debate.

You'd have to have a crystal ball to know that.

Who knows, he could get covid or something.
Not nice.

It takes about two weeks to get over a mild case of coronavirus, and up to 6 weeks for a severe case. Trump likely did not get the virus today, so that 2 week window has already started. The next presidential debate is in 13 days.

I would also note that Biden was in the same room as Trump for 90 minutes just two days ago, so it is very possible that he also has it, or that he got it at the debate.

https://twitter.com/realDonaldTrump/status/1311892190680014849

Well, I guess we won't be getting our debates after all. Crazy how that works.
Not good. I would be willing to bet that Trump will debate Biden. If he only has a mild case, he will likely debate in separate rooms. If he has a more severe case, he will likely drop out of the race.
covid-19 has give  trump a. Exit strategy.  He now has the option to resign with health as the reason. For the good of the country I am not well enough so I appoint my daughter as the vp.  Pence Trump  still the ticket.

And pence pardons trump for any and all crimes committed in office.

Just o e of many moves trump now has due to covid-19
225  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Small miner viability question: USB-C bus power? on: October 02, 2020, 03:41:39 PM
There aren't a lot of decent hubs either, really. Most USB-C "hubs" I could find split it out into several USB-A, HDMI, ethernet, a card reader and who knows what else.

Three or four years ago when this standard was rolling out, all kinds of people asked if I'd build a miner that could use it. Looks like there's still no good reason to because nothing supports the portions I'd require. Which sucks because it could be a pretty decent device.

Yeah if the port could feed 40 watts non stop it would be pretty good.
226  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Donald Trump and Wife Tested Positive For Covid19 a STAGE SHOW? on: October 02, 2020, 03:03:01 PM
Pence could run for president and trump's daughter could run for vice president.

Trump resigns for health reasons.
227  Other / Off-topic / Re: is this Patek Philippe Expensive or Cheap ? on: September 30, 2020, 07:09:00 PM
Not sure I've heard of the brand but that sounds expensive for a second hand watch?

Also can you not retire of 51k in romanis? I thought minimum wage was like 4-8 k eur a year

I am not up on the various models they make.
228  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: September 27, 2020, 12:21:58 AM
I THINK the cooperation shown by many many countries has shown that they could choose to shut down the internet if they want to.  This is very interesting concept that truly makes digital coins look weak. If you were Elon  Musk or any super wealthy person you are going to get around this weakness or simply not sink a lot of money into BTC.

You can't be serious? The wealthy cabal depends on internet services companies Apple, Google, Amazon, Microsoft, PayPal, eBay, all the cloud-based services companies, etc. Stock markets depend in the internet. Governments and militaries around the world depend on the internet up and running 24/7/365.

So not a chance in hell. Plus the internet was *designed* to be decentralized and disaster proof.

a year ago today you would have say no way would the world shut down over a virus that was 1/100 as deadly as the Spanish flu
229  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: September 26, 2020, 03:28:03 PM
No one will shove big amounts of money into bitcoin before the U.S. election. Selling big chunks is also unlikely but not as unlikely as investing.
I expect price to stay in the range through October. Coiling the spring to unbearable tension.

Also, a big move down at stocks is looming around the corner and everyone waits to see if btc gets dragged down again.

It seems everyone in Bitcoin these days is sitting around waiting for the proverbial "moon shot" that's supposedly just around the corner.

The truth is, we could literally go sideways-ish all the way up until the year of the next halving. A long ways away for sure. I mean, even during this summer, volume was pathetically low by prior yearly standards. Right now it's pathetically low again.

If anyone is just into Bitcoin for the fireworks, they may want to look elsewhere for a more exciting investment.
The chance of btc staying in the 10k to 11k range from now to 2024 is under 5%.

First holy covid batman ! Ie covid is not done yet.

Second the world has been able to shut down so many businesses over covid it is stunning.
Not the USA not China not India the entire world has been shutting down and killing off many many many businesses. So what to do?

I THINK the cooperation shown by many many countries has shown that they could choose to shut down the internet if they want to.  This is very interesting concept that truly makes digital coins look weak. If you were Elon  Musk or any super wealthy person you are going to get around this weakness or simply not sink a lot of money into BTC.

Phil,

I picked up a 5600 (the deal you linked to on Newegg), to play with to see if I want to get more.

Did you update your BIOS or just run them like they came? (I didn't see where a BIOS was available for this particular SKU)

I tried it on HiveOS and it would only hash at 13MH @45W.  Kinda weird.  Threw it on a Win10 rig and got around 40MH.  Not sure about power usage since HWiNFO is reporting about 90W, but Awesome Miner (AM) is showing around 115W.  Not sure which is right...  This is using the settings you recommended.

Might try putting it on a SMOS rig next to see what I get.  I'm mostly running Ubuntu 20.04 on my rigs and controlling them from AM.  I purchased a 20 rig license back in 2017 before Patrick went monthly fee per rig like everyone else.

Almost scored a 3080 yesterday.  Had it in my cart at nvidia.com, but when I got my payment info entered and submitted, I got an error that my address could not be left blank.  (it was not blank)  I guess server issues.  Will keep F5'ing over the weekend and into early next week, and then turn my attention to the 3090 if I don't score by then.  lol

ps.  Still on the fence about selling my GTX 1000 GPUs.  Made almost $160 with them yesterday...

Here is a video about Rx 5600 XT from Bits be trippin', he gets to 43.3mh @ 85w without BIOS mod, he also posted a config for SMOS: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MghxzsrDFJ4&t=213s

did I hear him right? 650w rig at 310MHs? take my money already!

Which is even better than E3 with 190MH/s at 700-800 W.  I didn't even know they were that good tbh. Might be worth going back to GPU mining after I left it in 2018.
  one rig to start again.
231  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitmain introduces the Antminer S17 Pro, Antminer S17, and the Antminer T17 on: September 20, 2020, 02:52:10 PM
mine have all worked well. I have 17 of them for about a year.  If you pay 800 in the usa you got a deal.
232  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: what to mine with low ram on: September 20, 2020, 02:45:56 PM
Stop posting here. I ASKED mod to move this to alt coins. I can tell you I think your gear is too weak  but i only know a few dozen alt coins maybe somebody in alt coins  knows it there is a coin for you
233  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: what to mine with low ram on: September 20, 2020, 02:44:23 PM
Okay this is the wrong section. You need to ask I. Alt coins not here.
234  Other / Off-topic / Re: my greatest collectibles! on: September 14, 2020, 04:46:20 PM
meh damn moderators moved this to off-topic where no one I know will see it. they need to fire 99% of all the moderators.

First off I am happy for you and that number 11 is okay. My older brother had the cord around his neck and was blue color when born. HE pulled through fine and 67 years later he is still okay. BETTER actually but this is about you. Not me. When I get home I will give your more points from big account. Good luck with numbers 1-12.  When do we get to a bakers dozen?
235  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: HELP with 2 T17+ :( on: September 14, 2020, 04:35:07 PM
The one that couldnt read the board was solved with custom firmware and the other one after a while drops the hasboard saying read temp error so im going to do as you say and press the heatsinks

I suspected  that you would fix one with the firmware. It seems the 17 series has a lot of bad models.
236  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Number 9! Ninth altcoin thread. Back to the moon Baby! on: September 13, 2020, 03:44:02 PM

still working on helping my wife recover from 2x pneumonia (covid?) She got it in Jan. Fever is gone but there is lung damage and she seems to have:
 1) endless post nasal drip
 2) hidden acid reflux

Convey our best wishes for a speedy Recovery Phil.
well it won't be speedy as jan to sept is not speedy. But my wife and I will be happy with a slow one. As better late then never seems to be a very good option .  Thank you for wishing her well.

On the way to the farm. I will be back on line in about five hours.

How about this one
- https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4000484456914.html

I tried to search on google but I end up on that link and the seller looks like a Chinese, so the shipping fee might be a bit high.

180+55= 235.

May be too costly
239  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: S17E / T17+ / T17 custom firmware - Free Download on: September 01, 2020, 02:02:59 AM
The t17 is great. I would tell anyone to try it.

The t17+ is working poorly. But to be fair it always worked like shit so I am not sure if it is a bad unit.

The t17e has volt and fan mod. He has yet to fully fix freq. But I have been busy.

I will mod my second t17 .

I will mod my second t17e even if it is only volts and fan.
240  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: August 31, 2020, 06:03:40 PM
~ Am I missing something?

Not much really, just the fud that attacks mining all the time, whether China fud or USA, which stalls the ever-up hashrate sometimes.

CCP really wants bitcoin out of China (lol) and USA has mixed success getting it in.

Let's say that 2/3 of BTC mining got knocked out for a variety of reasons in the coming months, then of course, there would be drama and FUD spreading, but at the same time BTC difficulty level is going to adapt every two weeks as the hashpower changes, in order to adjust to whatever might be going on, and king daddy could give less than two shits about from where (or what jurisdiction) such hashpower comes, and king daddy gives less than two shits if 95% of the hashpower leaves.  Of course, if there is lower hashpower happens, then there could be means to attack it while using less amount of resources, too.

maybe depends on where that hash that disappears from. what if its from mostly one or two of the top pools. if one of the remaining pools suddenly has over 51% of that remaining hashpower there could be some fear of that pool taking advantage of it for nefarious purposes. that type of drama did happen years back and although it was settled pretty fast (the pool that had near/over 51% prevented new miners from joining iirc) if it happens again maybe the price would be affected.

i dont really keep track of the btc pool hash distribution as i just mine shitcoins on auto exchange pools for btc. someone here will likely have some insight on that (philip maybe?).

Pools are not the issue.

Clarity and pool ownership is more important. They are not regulated no one knows the relationship  of the top ten pools.

As for just sha 256 coins viabtc alone can 51% all the lesser  256 coins anytime they want to do it.  In fact shared algorithms for any coin invite a 51% attack. I could for days about the downsides of only ten pools holding 90% of the sha 256 .  I FEAR the hashrate being squeezed more then I do the top ten pools combined to attack a coin.
