5 5970 is impossible because of 8 gpu limit, 7 gpu limit on 32bit os
222  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Min Mine Profit Poll on: November 04, 2012, 12:59:10 AM
I'm just saying that profits with bitcoin mining are really inflated because we love the idea so much. Mining equipment will have to pay itself back almost twice a year I think to be competitive for serious bitcoin miners. I think its safe to say each rig will cost you at least 20 hrs in labor a year after setup. Something will break. Heck one month I spent well over 100 dollars just shipping back rma's
223  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Scammer tag: PatrickHarnett on: November 04, 2012, 12:34:58 AM
Mods give patrick a scammer tag? like thats going to happen. Just as likely at theymos getting one

Have you told him that you've outed him like this?

Harnett: why aren't you defending yourself?

Admins: When are you going to apply the scammer tag?
224  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: My PSU just had a catastrophic failure (i.e. exploded) on: November 02, 2012, 11:33:18 PM
Its impossible to know for sure until we see documentation but I have seen power supplies that are multi rail and only two rails contain the pci-e cables. So it may be the pcie are on the two 35 amp rails. which means you might need some molex adapters. Motherboard and cpu usually have their own rail
225  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Min Mine Profit Poll on: November 02, 2012, 03:48:14 PM
Am I the only one who thinks this is a stupid poll, what computer hardware (even asic) isn't going to depreciate at 20% or more a year?
226  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: 8 BFL Singles on: October 30, 2012, 08:51:12 PM
Just curious why people think bfl singles are worth $775 dollars? At current price and difficulty with reward drop at end of december, I'm calculating 555 days to pay off a single at that price vs 165 to pay off a 5970 (last purchase was $220), it just doesn't make since to me. Will we ever see a 400 dollar single? Cause that's about what I would be willing to pay.

227  Economy / Services / Re: Gigamining / Teramining on: October 30, 2012, 06:42:14 PM
You are one of the few people I like on this forum. But you do need to realize there is a high possibility that you won't receive an asset list. You should make a contingency plan and a date to follow through with that plan. Your statement of "I can't do anything until I receive an asset list" is no different than bitcoinica's statement of we lost the database. Do you want to be on their level, keeping customers money because you don't have a plan. You owe more than that to your investors. Your profits off bitcoin must be close to a half a million, if not more. Even if people fill out fraudulent claims I think its better than not paying any of the people you owe.

To all:

Speculation around what is going to happen in the future is futile until I have received the list of asset holders from GLBSE.

If we could, I would like to request that we try to keep speculation to a minimum until my counsel has had time to research all of the legal issues and I have the list of asset holders in hand.

Thanks,
gigavps

if you want to really save money.. I bought a sapphire 5570 a couple months back for $20. It would do 96m/h and played portal 2 at 720p perfectly fine. Its not passive but I couldn't hear the fan either. If your not a big gamer it might work for you.
229  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Power supplys .. HELP on: October 22, 2012, 04:01:51 AM
I run 4 5850 bitcoin rigs on 650 watts power supplies (54 amp rail, corsair and rosewill) I don't know if that would work on ltc as ltc does use more power. I did have some stability issues when voltage dropped below 110v so I switched to 230v. It is right at the edge though.

if you want a recommendation though pc power and cooling 950 watt mk 2
230  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: New AMD APUs... [AMD A8-Series] on: October 22, 2012, 03:54:41 AM
has anyone got an a10 yet to test? I believe on the sha-256 bandwidth tests it was about 3 times as fast as the a8 so I was hoping it maybe worth trying if I build new gpu based systems
231  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: DO NOT DEAL WITH "epiks", SCAM. on: October 21, 2012, 05:44:20 PM
This isn't the first time epiks has been called a scammer. Even without counting the thread mentioned by bcb. But unless your a hero member or higher people are unlikely to do anything about you calling someone a scammer, sad truth

take said scammer tags or any tag really with a grain of salt
232  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Consolidated Litecoin Mining Guide for 5xxx, 6xxx, and 7xxx GPUs on: October 19, 2012, 06:38:04 AM
I believe its average over 5 seconds followed by average since you started cgminer

I'm sure it's something obvious, and I'll say "duh!" as soon as I'm told, but in cgminer, what's the difference between the two hash rates reported?  For example 289.1K/285.6Kh/s
233  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: LTC mining with Reaper on a 7970 on: October 19, 2012, 06:35:00 AM
your findings are almost identical to mine

The est I could squeeze out of a 7970 was 576 Kh/s (as reported by pool) with cgminer. I will buy some more RAM and try again from scratch.
234  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: wtb xfx 5970 heat sink and back plate on: October 18, 2012, 11:50:26 PM
I do have one, if you can make an offer that is worth me going to post office and ship it, also I have an xfx 5870 and a 6990 heatsink as well
235  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: I think I fucked up on: October 18, 2012, 12:43:19 AM
Yeah its a short which makes it one of the harder things to diagnose. Your vrm's on your motherboard or video card can be stuck open causing it to look like a short. Running more than one gpu on each power supply lead can even cause shorts in the wiring itself from damaging the connectors. Fallen screws can cause shorts. Who knows what else could have happened? So if you could borrow another power supply that's the best solution. Honestly I think its best to have an extra one around just in case. A high quality 400w power supply should only cost you 40 dollars or so and the nice thing is it can save you from having a down system
236  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: I think I fucked up on: October 18, 2012, 12:16:08 AM
well then the only last thing I can suggest if you feel capable you can test power supply without it connected to anything by shorting out PS-on pin to ground and testing the voltage with a multi meter but its more than likely the motherboard but that would be the only way to know for sure without another power supply to test

237  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: I think I fucked up on: October 18, 2012, 12:07:55 AM
so you have no power on step 4 and no other power supplies to try?
238  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: I think I fucked up on: October 18, 2012, 12:04:35 AM
Epicblood go down my list and tell me where you get stuck and I will be glad to help you. You may get bombarded with replies here and doing them in the incorrect order may not tell us for sure what the issue is
239  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: I think I fucked up on: October 17, 2012, 11:36:35 PM
The fans spinning for a fraction of a second is almost always either a bad motherboard or a short wire somewhere.

Here is my troubleshooting procedures.
1. Unplug everything! Remove all cards
2. Check cpu/memory seated properly
3. Cycle switch on power supply, plug back in 24 pin motherboard/8 pin CPU/CPU FAN
4. plug in power switch on motherboard and check that it powers up (if not try different power supply and retry, if still no power replace motherboard)
5. plug in video cards 1 at a time and pcie cables (check pcie adapter cables if used sometimes pins come out of the molex side)
6. Check for power after each video card is added (if no power after a video card is added test motherboard again with just that video card or another system if possible to double check card is dead
7. plug back in drives and boot up system

#1 is important, unplugging cables will reset protection modes on power supply
240  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: LTC mining with Reaper on a 7970 on: October 16, 2012, 09:55:42 PM
Do you remember when I called you out on saying "personally", or did you forget that already. I'm actually starting to enjoy these bitcoin forums, at first I was mad about all the scams/liars here but now I just hope I can use my new found lie detecting skills in more real life situations

oh wow what did I tell you tacotime can't get 700kh on a 7970 after all. If it was really possible to get an extra 20% from a 7970 why wouldn't a 7970 run much cooler when running at 550kh it does bitcoin mining at the same clock speeds? Surely enough to make up for a little bit of heat caused by extra ram usage. People still don't believe me on calling out bfl's lies but I did pretty good job here.

I was going by what other people told me.  I'm sure we'll get some extra kh/s out of it when the kernel gets ironed out.
