222  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Best USB hub for Block Erupters + Raspberry Pi? on: July 28, 2013, 07:19:48 AM
Here are what I am using:

Anker Uspeed 10-port
You need to find the older model w/o the 9+1 charging port on it

I got one last month. I am currently trying to get 2 more following the USB Eruptor price drop and I am not sure I'll be able to find some more.

Is there something wrong with the 9+1 charging port beside maybe be a little bit more expensive?

To the contrary since it come with a 5A PSU, it might be a better choice. I'm currently limiting to 8 the number of Eruptors I plug in the hub to not overload the 4A PSU.

Would plugging 9 Eruptors and plug the usb Artic breeze fan in the charging port be something possible?

Comments?

The problem with an Anker is all the new models are usb 3.0. The R Pi only works with Usb 2.0 hubs. I like the layout of the Anker much better than the D-Link but I have not tracked down one with the same form factor with sufficent power.

I could buy 40 USB Block Erupters for 20BTC and t and with some usb extenders string them on the tree at Xmas. Grin

Internet Exploer?
No self respecting geek would ever be caught using IE. Huh
Chrome, Chromium for you Linux nerds, Firefox, Opera. any thing but that.
I would rather eat the boogers from a dead mans nose than to use Internet Explorer.
Ditch the malware magnet and use a real browser.

I want to change my email address, but cant seem to find the option.
226  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: USB Block Erupter Price Drop on: July 28, 2013, 02:37:32 AM
Didn't a MASSIVE amount of Chinese and other resellers just got them in bulk at 0.1 BTC each?

Expect the price to drop a bit, but you're still paying several times what it cost them.

Yes, still pricey, about 141.00USD per GH/s. The BFL Jalapeno would be about 50.00USD per GH/s, if you could get one at the listed price. But AM owns the market right now and they charge with the market will bear.  They will also have to drop the price on the Blade. I dont know the current selling price but they were very expensive.
227  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: USB Block Erupter Price Drop on: July 28, 2013, 02:18:53 AM
So where can you buy them for 0.5 (or even 0.1)?

Timeframe for shipping?

https://www.btcguild.com// you have to register an acct to order. Projected ship date shows on site. I  last one I ordered took about a week.  I paid 1.05 recently so it looks like I get a coupon to get one for .15, nice.

Since all other outlets are announcing this even though it was not supposed to happen until August 1, yes, USB Block Erupters are having a price cut!

USB Block Erupters are now on sale at 0.60 BTC per device (free shipping to US). A huge number of units are en route, which will clear the backorder, and leave roughly 1,000 units available for next day shipping by August 1.

If you ordered an Erupter at 1 BTC, all is not lost yet. A coupon program is being initiated by ASICMINER and distributed by BTC Guild. 30% of the units sold at 1 BTC will be eligible to purchase a 2nd unit for 0.10 BTC (+0.05 Shipping/Handling). The exact method of coupon distribution will be announced when coupon units arrive, which should be around August 5th.
228  Bitcoin / Hardware / USB Block Erupter Price Drop on: July 28, 2013, 02:13:33 AM
BTC Guild has dropped the price to .50btc. Could be AM dropped price to let the air out of the K1 Nano's sails.
229  Economy / Securities / Re: [BitFunder] - ADDICTION - KNCMiner buyin! on: July 28, 2013, 12:26:26 AM
Anyone notice the large spread between the bid and ask today.

Bid is .฿0.0120and Ask is .฿0.01744999. We might be in for a nice rise.
230  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: A case study in entry-level mining on: July 27, 2013, 02:45:48 AM
This thread caused me to dust off my R Pi and basically duplicated your setup. Currently running exact same hardware, same hub. One diff is I have a small usb fan. Temp is a chilly 39c. This is likely to go up, when more stick are added. Only have one BE at the moment. I have five more on the way. Just got my tracking numbers today. I was going to buy some mining shares with the money, but this is much more fun.  I will buy some mining shares next month. I like Addiction and LabRat.

Thanks

I got into bitcoin purely my accident. A major NZB site got shut down and the replacement I wanted only accepted BTC. I bought a few bitcoins for about 60 dollars and didnt think much about it, till I saw a new atricle about the big run up an price. I check my wallet and the few BTC I had was worth about 400.00. I then spent hours in this forum. I now have a couple of K invested in mining shares and run a few block erupters. Welcome.
232  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Mini Rig Purchased and Hashing .... erm, so what's next??!! on: July 26, 2013, 08:36:17 PM
Kudos, man. Living the dream!

And don't worry too much about bothering people with constant #s.

In this regard most of us are happily living vicariously through you ;}

I look forward to your updates as well. Ignore the haters. This has got to be an exciting time for you. I wish you luck in this endeavor. I have the balls to do what your are doing, but not the money. Are you gonging to set aside some BTC for new hardware, are just going balls out for ROI?

It would be nice to have a KNC Jupiter sitting next to the Mini Rig in Sept or Oct. I am trying to scrape a few nickels together to buy a Mecury. Looks like it may be 2014 before I see my BFL order.

AAAAND the two 1.2A ports only give 1.2A when the Hub is NOT connected to a running computer (for charging of phones etc)!! Did you bother to read the manual?!
I have two of those D-Link Hubs and I would not put more than 5 Sticks in each of it.

No like most old computer geeks, I only RTFM as a last resort. Roll Eyes Thanks for your insight. I just got tracking info for my 5 gizmos.
234  Other / Archival / Re: Pictures of your mining rigs! on: July 25, 2013, 11:37:41 PM
You are welcome. What USB hub are you using, and how many erupters. I really want something like the Anker, top mounted plugs and 10 ports that works with the Pi?

There actually is a great 49 Port USB 2.0 hub that works with the RPi, but unfortunatly that hub from Cambrionix costs a small fortune.

Be aware of always leaving like 0.5A headroom on a hub, so if you get a 5 Port hub with a 2.5A power supply only plug in 4 Block Erupter. On a 7 Port with a 3A power supply max 5 Sticks, with a 4A power supply you can use all 7 ports. This will help with stability and longer life of the hub.

I am thinking  that the D-Link DUBH-7  could handle at  6 or seven. 5 of the port are 0.5amp and two are considered charging ports and are 1.2 amps. So six or seven block erupter would not overload it.  I only have one block erupter now. I have five more on the way. So we will see.
Specs below.
Supplied Charging Current
Standard Mode:
All seven USB ports- 0.5 A per port 2
Fast-Charge Mode:
5 standard USB ports- 0.5 A per port 2
2 USB fast charging ports - 1.2 A per port 2

Make sure your power supply to the RPi is sufficient . When I first got mine I used an old cell phone charger and I had lost of strange issues. My best guess is tis power relate, either the hub itelf or the hub. Below is a link with verfied working hubs. The cheap ones might not have the juice to power many at the same time.

Hey, thanks for the tip on MinePeon, by the way. I realized I have a Raspberry Pi sitting in a box doing nothing, so I moved my Block Eruptors over to it. That's definitely the easiest setup I've ever done.

You are welcome. What USB hub are you using, and how many erupters. I really want something like the Anker, top mounted plugs and 10 ports that works with the Pi?
Yes, mine was just catching dust. I just got is as a toy, and something to get better at Linux. I have had it Pi ruinng as a Really slow desktop PC, a PXB with PBX in a Fash, a HTPC with XBMC and now MinePeon. MP is the best use so far.
237  Other / Archival / Re: Pictures of your mining rigs! on: July 25, 2013, 02:04:34 PM
Nice set up. I also have a Zotac mini. It bought a bare bone unit from Newegg. However I use it as an HTPC. I run XBMC and Plex Media Center on it. A Raspberry Pi is a much lower cost option, but your are limited to USB 2.0 hubs.
238  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: BFL is Assembling 400 (not 300) Units a Day! on: July 25, 2013, 04:46:53 AM
There have been some logistic problems with shipping. In the photo below, a shipment of Mini Rigs was delayed.

239  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: The Best Mining Hardware Mining on: July 24, 2013, 10:09:24 PM
There is nothing at this time that fits that description. All of the really good hardware. Has a long wait time assoiciated with it.
BFL....still waiting for my April 4 2013 order
Avalon...Long wait
Bitfury...some months away.
KNC.....Sept projected, but lots of preorders to fill.
Best bang for you buck, if you have 4 or 8K to spend.

What can you order today and have is a week or two.
Not much. USB Block Erupter. ROI 10 month to never with diff increases.
Nice toy to play, I have a couple. The pretty blinking led looks purty. But I would say not for serious mining. K1 nanos hould be showing up, better than block erupters, but not much.

Asminer Blade 10GH/s for 4.5k....no thank you.

I decided just to buy shares in a couple of mining companies.
Addiction, they have early ordrer of KNC gear. And LabRat mining, should get Bitfury gear. Most common advice I hear is buy BTC if you have faith in BTC and beleive it will go up. Cause anything you buy for future delivery, might not give you a decent ROI.

BFL would be a oood deal if they ever figure out how to put the shit back in the donkey. I would not have a problem ordering a Jally or better,, If I knew I could have it in a couple of months.
240  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Need Avalon setup HELP [1 BTC] on: July 24, 2013, 05:22:49 PM
The problem is, all he has atm is DSL jack -> DSL modem -> ethernet to his PC. The modem is not a router so his PC has the external IP settings / pppoe auth.
Meaning, he cant have more than 1 device working on the internet till he gets a router to put behind the modem.

All I want to know is whats the proper way to reset the avy?

I looks like all the needs to do, is get a router and do a proper factory reset on the router to get it back to the the 192.168.1.100. He must have gotten the external ip from his PC. It probably a good thing he is on PPoe DSl and not Cable DHCP. Had he copied the setting correctly, someone else could be minding on his brand new Avalon.

Get router and get connectivity  to his isp.
Reset the TPLink. From the instruction I read you need to hold down the reset button 6-10 seconds.
