batching saves fees and reduces the amount of space taken up on the blockchain. so it's a good thing overall. you should not disable that option.

Got it. Ok. So considering that my 'person 2' wallet is just a standard wallet, which was created without inputting the mpk of the 'person 1 multisig wallet', anyway for me to rectify this? I don't seem to see an option for me to now input the mpk of the 'person 1 multisig wallet'...
create a new wallet file to do what hcp said above. use the seed from the person2 standard wallet and the person1 mpk. you can begin via file > new/restore.

I also remember using a wallet, does a wallet help you locate old lost bitcoins? Also are some wallets web based? I literally know nothing and am now trying to learn the smartest first steps to try to find bitcoin
what do you expect from us when you yourself have no idea what you did?

"electrum help" on the command line has the full list of options. one is getaddressbalance. the notify option should be providing more data though. there are also options for getting transaction specific data. edit: I will have thousand of payment / day. So i can't do balance diff on that kind of stuff :s
electrum is not suitable for this. it can't handle large wallets. you should look at btcpayserver or something that use bitcoin core.

If it's an electrum generated seed then the derivation path does not come into question. You don't get the option to change it at all as it's automatically set by the software. Besides if it was a different derivation path the xpub would also be different. So really the OP should just answer the questions above especially the ones i posed in post #7 about whether the address is in the wallet and whether the wallet is connected or not.

the amounts involved in that transaction are so small that it's possible you didn't notice it hitting your wallet. it's possible the sender has confused mbtc with btc.
if the transaction does not show up at all on the history tab then you should confirm that the address shows up in your wallet and that you are connected to an electrum server. for the former go to view menu > show addresses, switch to addresses tab and press ctrl+f to search for the address in question. for the former you should be seeing a balance in the bottom left and a green orb in the bottom right.

the shared secret is also not the same as your bitcoin private keys or seed. it is only used to generate one time passwords for authentication purposes.

I'm a big fan of electrum wallet service but they're beginning to get on my nerves. The nature of my business require me to make use of a mobile friendly wallet and they're the best from observation and one of the most recommended. I have been using the wallet for my transactions for almost 3years now but of recent their recommended fees has been very high even before the whole discussion of bitcoin fees been extremely high began to heat up. Today I spent $10+ on fees making a transaction worth approximate $19 as of when I was making the transaction and I used the least recommended fees which was to confirm my transactions within 25 blocks. Now converting this into my local currency, I spend 4,500 Naira on a transaction worth 8,550 Naira which puts me at a huge lost. I think it quite time the electrum mobile wallet begins to let us set manual fees instant of giving us recommendation that's this high. I understand that we might set fees that won't confirm our transaction in hours or even days but there's the bump fees option that can be later used. What do you think?. you can set fees manually. on the send tab create a transaction and click pay and then click on advanced to get the option to enter a custom fee. then you click finalize, sign and broadcast.

number 2 is the answer assuming you used the windows installer the last time and you made sure to download that this time as well. don't use the portable or standalone versions unless you know what you are doing.

you can't do the initial block download over the satellite connection.

old versions don't sync anymore so what version are you using?

You mean you have an Electrum wallet you haven't used in a whale and you just recently updated it to 4.0.3, right? This version was only released last month. First off all, make sure you downloaded it only ONLY from ELECTRUM.ORG. Try going to Tools -> Network -> Uncheck "Select server automatically" -> Right click another server -> "Use as server". See if it synchronizes. If that doesn't work, try closing the wallet and reopening it again. If it still doesn't work, close it, go to the Electrum directory (on Linux, go to Location and type ~/.electrum), deleting the "blockchain_headers" file and opening the wallet again. It will take a few seconds to synchronize and everything should work (hopefully). That what struck me also, I havent updated the wallet manually for sure , installed it at least 1 year ago possibly much more. How come when I click on help/about tab it shows me version 4.0.3 ? Can it somehow update auomagically on Mint? depends on how you installed it. if you used your operating system's repos then yes it could have been updated automatically via that.

I have no technical knowledge and I understand absolutely nothing. This code in your link, do I have to copy / paste it in the terminal? switch to windows. if you have no technical knowledge and aren't willing to learn then you have no business using ubuntu.

Hello!
Sorry if these are dumb questions, but I'm trying to get a better understanding of bitcoin address management and would appreciate any good resource (I've been through the Bitcoin wiki etc, but still can't answer my questions).
The main point I'd like to understand is the linkage between addresses from a single seed/within a single wallet.
Question 1: Let's say I have been using a seed/wallet ("A") for a bit of time and received/spent BTC from it. If I transfer the whole balance of this wallet ("A") to another seed ("B") and then generate a new address on that first wallet ("A") to receive BTC from a new source, will it be possible to link the balance on my initial ("A") addresses to the newly created ("A") address?
no Question 2: If I use a single seed to generate a legacy BTC address and a Bech32 address, is it possible for someone analyzing the blockchain to determine that these two addresses come from the same seed / are linked?
Thanks!
the seed mnemonic encodes the script type so you can't create wallets like that using an electrum seed. legacy wallet seed will only generate legacy wallet and a segwit wallet seed bech32 addresses. if you were to use a bip39 seed then you could do the above. in that case someone could link the two addresses once you spend from them because spending reveals the public key and it'll be the same for both addresses.

|
if you don't want to update macos you can export the private keys via wallet > private keys> export. then import them in some other wallet. note that electrum appends the script type to the private keys so you will have to remove everything before the colon inclusive.

hopefully you've done the transaction again via the send tab. the history tab is authoritative for transactions in your wallet so basically what has happened is that your tx didn't go through because you weren't synced. so you have to do it again Also, and I don't know if this confounds things further, in an attempt to locate our wallet address, we clicked on the Receive tab and hit the Request button (which apparently creates an on-chain request - which is jargon neither of us understand). In the "Expires after" dropdown menu, my girlfriend clicked on "1 day".
there is no such thing as the wallet address. your wallet has many addresses and you can use any of them to receive money. ideally you use a fresh address per transaction and set a description on the receive tab so that it shows up on the history tab when you receive money. this way you know who sent you how much. you can ignore the expiry option. it's a UI annoyance more than anything else. addresses don't expire.

you can use your existing installation. you just need to create a new wallet file via file > new/restore.
oh and you will need to generate a new set of seed words. select 2fa as the wallet type and let electrum make a new seed for you. your current seed can't be used to create a 2fa wallet.
