22261  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Bitcoin Nation on: December 15, 2013, 03:33:42 AM
There is better, or at least simpler option. One that does not require anyone to move. Look at how Cosa Nostra and Yakuza function. They live in same country as everyone else, but they are effectively their own people and their own nation, with their own economy and services.

Not practical. A lot of the Cosa Nostra members are currently in various Italian prisons. I don't want any Bitcoiner to go to jail for breaking the financial regulations.

So does Mike have the option to just quit producing casascius coins without further legal trouble from FinCEN, or is he going to need lawyers looking over his shoulder for the rest of his life?

I fear it is the second case. He probably will have to produce the list of all his buyers as well. Should have moved to Germany or Switzerland a long back.
22263  Bitcoin / Press / Re: 2013-12-10 Cyprus Central Bank warns about risks in use of Bitcoin on: December 15, 2013, 03:28:49 AM
I suppose when you are waking up alongside severed horse head presents from the Russian mob then bitcoin 'pronouncements' can seem like a pleasant distraction ...

The Russian mafia is in a severely weakened condition, after many prominent members were arrested a few years ago in Spain. They lost tens of billions of $$$ in Cyprus. Were they able to retaliate? NO.
22264  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Coinbase Raises $25 Million From Andreessen Horowitz on: December 15, 2013, 03:26:45 AM
charles lee (creator of litecoin) works at coinbase.
his brother runs btcchina.
litecoins are coming to both in due time like it or not. the lee's have a vested interest

Both BTC-China and Coinbase have shown no interest in Litecoin. Even the creator of Litecoin realizes that his invention is a dead horse.
22265  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Satoshi Award - A proposal to the community on: December 15, 2013, 03:24:45 AM
Why we should wait till 2140? Almost 60% of the coins are already mined out. We can proceed directly to the awards now.
22266  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Dont drink and bitcoin. on: December 15, 2013, 03:23:19 AM
Being tired is almost the same as being drunk in terms of lack of concentration.

Once I sent coins to the wrong dude, and I didn't have any contact information. After a whole lot of research I finally found his mothers phone number and called her, and luckily he was present, and immediately agreed to move the bitcoins back to me.

You got the coins back because the guy was honest. This sort of behavior is extremely rare in the Bitcoin sector. I have even heard of an incident where a handicapped man was robbed of his Bitcoins (He was there to exchange his coins for USD. But the other guy took the coins, and walked away without bothering to pay up).
22267  Other / Politics & Society / Re: I need a foreign bank account I can control online on: December 15, 2013, 02:50:03 AM
In Bitmit (now defunct) earlier people used to sell such account, complete with online login, Master / Visa card, and IBAN. Now they'll be available from the TOR blackmarkets.
22268  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Switzerland to vote on $2,800 monthly ‘basic income’ for adults on: December 15, 2013, 02:48:26 AM
Totally agree with this.
Let's all stop working cause this defies evolution , we're not animals.
I wonder how the world will look after one year with nobody working , this is , if we still have a world and a planet left , and somebody to tell the story.

Hahaha... at least it will be good for our planet.  Grin

He's obviously stretching it too far, but let me put this another way: if you were to receive those $2800, would you be happy just sitting in your couch, doing nothing else for the rest of your life?

I am sure that if everyone if being given $2.8K for free, 99.99% of them will not work even for one second.
22269  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Meanwhile in Ukraine... Revolution. on: December 15, 2013, 02:46:25 AM
Yanukovych has asked for 20 Billion Euros in aid for Ukraine joining the EU. If the EU grants him an amount near that, then Yanukovych will be No.1 on Putin's hit-list.  Grin
22270  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2013-12-11] CNN: Can Bitcoin replace PayPal? on: December 15, 2013, 02:44:46 AM
I think you're assuming on-blockchain transactions with bitcoin fees - which they definitely wouldn't be doing (except for transfers in/out of the Paypal system)

Then who will use them? If they are going to charge people 4% for BTC transactions, hardly anyone would chose Paypal.
22271  Bitcoin / Press / Re: 2013-12-13: European Union threatens bitcoin seizures on: December 15, 2013, 02:42:22 AM
They can block services like exchanges and with them, all the coins they have

If they block the exchanges, then I'll rely on Localbitcoins to convert my BTCs to cash. Nothing the EU can do about it.
22272  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: First Burger Chain to Accept Bitcoin? on: December 15, 2013, 02:40:00 AM
Great news. But while it might be the first Burger chain in Canada to accept BTC, another one (Burger Bear in London) was the first to do so in the entire world, I think.
22273  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: can satoshi kill bitcoin? on: December 15, 2013, 02:37:39 AM
I mean if he comes back and make an announcement like "I've made a mistake in the past and believe that xxxcoin is actually the way to go, therefore I was immersed in this new coin for the past few years and this coin has now matured". What would you do? Are you going to ignore him and keep investing in bitcoin?

First he will have to prove that he is the "real" Satoshi. Not going to be easy. And he will have to face hundreds of thousands of Bitcoiners, who have put a lot of investment in to BTC. Not going to be easy either.
22274  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How much btc was cheated off you before? on: December 15, 2013, 02:35:55 AM
I lost some 25 BTC when Litcoinglobal and BTCT decided to shutdown without a warning. At that time they represented some 60% to 70% of all my BTC net worth. (Right now no matter how hard I work, I still can't get to that 25 BTC mark).  Grin
22275  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Can Bitcoin support a country? on: December 15, 2013, 02:33:57 AM
An artificial island nation would be the go - some BTC billionaires could seriously afford this now.

This has been dealt with many times now. It is not possible to build an artificial island in the neutral parts of the ocean, according to the international laws. And if you build one inside some nation's EEZ, then it'll be under the jurisdiction of that country.
22276  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I am pretty confident we are the new wealthy elite, gentlemen. on: December 15, 2013, 02:31:26 AM
But most people don't want to live in a cardboard box or under a freeway overpass.

I have the ownership of a house, which I received as inheritance. So I don't have to spend anything extra for rent, or have to live in a cardboard box.  Grin

22279  Other / Off-topic / Re: Is it just me or this island looks like weed on: December 14, 2013, 05:20:18 PM
In the Netherlands they are still debating whether the new artificial island should be tulip-shaped or weed-shaped.

22280  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2013-12-11] CNN: Can Bitcoin replace PayPal? on: December 14, 2013, 05:16:39 PM
Paypal will integrate bitcoin if they can reduce their operating costs, or if they can make money off of it.

It can reduce the operating costs. But they will lose money out of it as well, due to the reduction of profits.
