Also, if your country of origin is outside the EU, it might not be easy to get a residence permit in Switzerland.

Hmm.. that is bad for non-Swiss bitcoin enthusiasts. But still I am happy for my Swiss brothers.

Something like that one?

That building is anchored in the ocean bed. But such shallow areas are not available for us. Floating islands are the only option.
22403  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Ron Paul talking Bitcoin on Fox Business on: December 10, 2013, 11:21:31 AM
Is Rand Paul also having the same opinion about the Bitcoin as Ron? Rand can take up the issue of Bitcoin regularization / recognition in the US Senate.
22404  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Rest in peace... on: December 10, 2013, 11:12:53 AM

That is quite one-sided. Most of the crimes against White and Asian people in Apartheid-era South Africa were committed by extremist elements within the ANC, such as Thabo Mbeki. No need in blaming Nelson Mandela for that.
22405  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Bitcoin Nation on: December 10, 2013, 11:10:24 AM
Hence the artificial floating city-ship in international waters. Nobody would have to give up land. Doesn't even have to be an official nation, just an independent community.

I don't know whether the world police (i.e the US) will allow that. And additionally, the ship-nation will be extremely dependent on the outside world for even the basic amenities (food, clothes.etc).
22406  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Swiss parliamentary postulate: Bitcoin is a currency on: December 10, 2013, 11:07:38 AM
No capital gain taxes for private persons as long as you are not living of trading, basically. So the ordinary citisen will only pay welth tax (not much), no capital gain tax. However, you can not deduct losses from your income either.

How much is the wealth tax in Switzerland?

Is it possible for non-citizens to temporarily reside in Switzerland and sell their Bitcoins for CHF?
22407  Bitcoin / Press / Re: 2013-12-09 JPMorgan Chase Building Bitcoin-Killer on: December 10, 2013, 11:04:56 AM
Yeah, it's your patent, now sue us, sue all the miners, let's see if you can take them all down!

Not as simple as you think. They'll sue the exchanges and main websites. No one is stupid enough to sue individual miners. Life will be hard without the exchanges and other services.
22408  Bitcoin / Press / Re: 2013-12-09 JPMorgan Chase Building Bitcoin-Killer on: December 10, 2013, 09:34:27 AM
We should take this seriously. If JP Morgan is allowed to move forward with this step, the legal status of Bitcoin exchanges, and that of payment processors such as Bitpay will be at risk.
22409  Bitcoin / Press / Re: India’s authorities are allegedly preparing a public advisory on: December 10, 2013, 09:31:39 AM
RBI is still in the stone age, technologically. Even if they ban the BTCs, I'll be very surprised if they could enforce it.

So...in short, we have good news from Germany and Switzerland, and bad news from India, the US and China.

Media is downplaying the transaction. Look here. Is there any truth in what they are saying?
22411  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How to forecast when Bitcoin is going mainstream! on: December 10, 2013, 09:27:01 AM
The answers will give you an idea of how long it will take before bitcoin is mainstream.

When did you first hear about the internet?

When I was 13 or 14 y.o. (Late 1990s).

When did you get your first email address?

When I was 19 y.o (early 2000s).

When did you send your first email to someone you didn't know about something you wanted to buy?

Never

When did you first use the internet to chat to someone you didn't know?

In 2005.

When did you first use the internet to do something with your local government office?

Late 2000s. When I was 24 or 25.

When did you first buy something online, and how much did you spend?

When I was 25. Bought one VCD for $2.

22412  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Will Bitpay overtake Paypal in the near future (i.e before 2016)? on: December 10, 2013, 09:22:09 AM
I know my opinion is that.. fuck paypal. i sell some on ebay and the fees are about 15% per item i sell (ebay+paypal fees). that's pretty god damn exorbitant to me, as i can't imagine them needing more than 4% for expenses. what i hate the most is that they seem to raise the fees on an annual basis, and they try to spin it as "good news to you."

The folks behind Ebay are another greedy bunch. I am still mourning the demise of Bitmit. They were a great alternative to Ebay. I don't know why they closed down the site, when everything was going exceedingly well.
22413  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Will Bitpay overtake Paypal in the near future (i.e before 2016)? on: December 10, 2013, 07:45:35 AM
I doubt it will over take it by 2016. But it will definitely cause them a lot of headaches going forward.

Lol... that should be the case. Personally saying, I am not too much concerned whether Bitpay will overtake PP or not (although it will be really good if it happens). If PP reduces their fees in order to be competitive against Bitpay, it will be a great victory for the digital currency.

Paypal is incredibly convenient and almost universally adopted by the main seller sites online. I know that I myself love Paypal to death and cannot imagine online commerce without it. I think it will be much farther than 2016 if ever.

It'll be interesting to hear your opinion on their fees and other charges.
22414  Other / Politics & Society / Re: On African Poverty and Oil on: December 10, 2013, 07:42:01 AM
South Africa is totally, completely tribal.  Zulus will not get on the same bus with Sammis, if that happens by accident fights or worse are quite likely.

Without understanding tribal society, one cannot understand Africa.  South Africa, the "whites", Affricaners, made a peace with the Zulu king, they been down there a long, long time.  Very different than most countries.

Afrikaners should be recognized as one of the indigenous people of Southern Africa. But how can anyone forget that Afrikaners were the dominant force behind the Apartheid government (especially after the 1960s, when Anglos waned in power).
22415  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Your view on shale gas exploration ? on: December 10, 2013, 07:39:43 AM
Matt Damon makes anti-fracking propaganda film funded by United Arab Emirates. Trying to keep USA dependent on OPEC? blog.heritage.org/2012/09/28/mat…

While it is true that the OPEC pours billions of $$$ every year to the anti-exploration lobby, the damage it can cause to the environment is difficult to ignore.

Rather than doing anti-environmental practices such as fracking, the focus should be shifted to green energy. I know that there are a lot of arguments against green energy, but most of them are funded by the same people who want the OPEC dominance to continue.

I am still a strong supporter of cane-ethanol.
22416  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Bitcoin Nation on: December 10, 2013, 07:34:36 AM
The idea of micro-nations have been tried before and has failed every time. No country will give a part of its territory away, no matter how poor it is. The Maharishi Mahesh Yogi even offered to pay $2 billion for just a few hectares of land, but even the poorest nations rejected his offer.

Even if some third world country is ready to part with its territory, no other UN member will recognize the micro-nation.
22417  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Switzerland to vote on $2,800 monthly ‘basic income’ for adults on: December 10, 2013, 07:29:52 AM
Just tax 100% of 2.8k from those who don't need it to live. Simple Grin

Do you think that the HNWIs will be stupid enough to pay 100% tax? They'll just pack up their bags and move to low-tax countries such as Russia and UAE. Just take a look at what happened in France.

And one more thing. The total taxable revenue for the entire Switzerland is around $300 billion, of which some $120 b is already being collected as tax.

In order to give everyone $2.8K per month:

1. A total of $188 b worth additional taxes should be collected. So the net tax becomes $308 billion, which is almost 103% of the total revenue.

2. Every citizen in Switzerland will pay a 103% tax, all the corporations will pay 103% tax... and even the real estate dealings will be taxed by 103%.

Imagine a situation where someone getting $30 or $40 million in annual salary has to pay all of that in tax, and have to live off the $2.8K you are offering.  Grin
22418  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Switzerland to vote on $2,800 monthly ‘basic income’ for adults on: December 10, 2013, 05:04:18 AM
Switzerland is one of the most highly taxed countries in the world. They also provide great healthcare & drug rehabilitation programs. However setting a basic income of $2800 monthly will make it near impossible for certain businesses to operate.

That's what I have been saying all along. Some people want to raise the taxes from 40% to 400%. How is that even possible?
22419  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Satoshi has how many Bitcoins? on: December 10, 2013, 05:01:48 AM
Prediction: In 2014 or 2015... Satoshi cashes out all of his bitcoins, making him the world's first trillionaire driving the price of BTCs back to single digits

If he is having one million coins, then BTC should reach $1,000,000 mark for him to become a trillionaire. If you ask me whether it is theoretically possible, then I'd say yes.

But the second part, i.e BTC crashing from $1,000,000 to $5. No chance. Not even a slight chance.
22420  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Will Bitpay overtake Paypal in the near future (i.e before 2016)? on: December 10, 2013, 04:59:08 AM
i strongly doubt that's going to happen before 2016.. but if bitcoin starts to pick up steam, i think paypal will do whatever it can to stop the development of bitcoin. a lot of people are fed up with paypal, more than any other payment processor i can think of.

The fees charged by Paypal is much more than that levied by Master / Visa. Their currency conversion charges are also ridiculous.

So.... isn't there a chance that if faced with increasing competition from Bitpay.etc, PP will reduce their charges?
