Honestly , I see that depopulation problem at no problem at all. In the upcoming years I think that we will have more and more countries thinking about population control. It does not sound too good but it's something we have to face. You don't need too many people in your country nowadays , workforce starts to get replaced by machines and even if there is a temporary need you don't really have a clue about what will be in 20 years when the newborns will be apt for work. Depopulation is not a problem when it is uniform all over the world. Sadly, it is not the case. So we have South Korea on one side, where the women give birth to an average of 1.05 children in her lifetime, and Niger on the other side, where the same is 7.50. International borders are getting more and more obsolete nowadays, and nothing can prevent the movement of people from overpopulated nations to the sparsely populated ones. In long term, that means the breakdown of cultural norms, and in the end it will result in the collapse of the nation as a whole. In future, somewhere near 50% of the Japanese population will be elderly, and the economy won't be able to grow without significant immigration.

I don't mind what politicians think about bitcoin, as they can't control it. Anyway I remember the following news from Switzerland: Swiss banks ditch secrecyhttp://rt.com/business/game-changer-swiss-banking-secrecy-254/So it's an interesting opportunity to whoever deposited money in Swiss bank accounts to migrate to bitcoin and be free from government control ![Wink](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/wink.gif) Well.. I have a feeling that this measure was the stimulant behind the Bitcoin postulate. If the Swiss banks ditch secrecy, their business will get (severely) affected. So probably in order to neutralize the possible repercussions in the Swiss financial sector, the parliamentarians are proposing to make Switzerland the world leader in Bitcoin marketing.

Exactly, don't know why people fail to see this characteristic of Bitcoin.
Well.. in that case there is a slight chance that a better cryptocurrency can actually replace Bitcoin. In my opinion, the chances are scarce, as no major technical flaws were discovered for Bitcoin during the past five years.

I don't think such a war will happen, China is probably testing out Japan to see if they could do this but as we saw Japan reacted well and a war will most probably not happen ![Smiley](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/smiley.gif) Nothing can be taken for granted. The Japanese military depends a lot on their American counterparts. Also, Japan is currently suffering from massive depopulation.

Recently I am hearing a lot of positive news about the Bitcoin payment processor Bitpay. So my question is, how long it'll take for Bitpay to overtake Paypal?
Actually I wanted to ahve an online poll, but I don't know how to incorporate poll to new thread.
Please select from the following options:
a) No. Paypal will remain the market leader for many many decades to come.
b) No. But another Bitcoin payment processor will overtake Paypal in the distant future.
c) No. But another Bitcoin payment processor will overtake Paypal in the near future.
d) Yes.
e) Yes. But only in the distant future.

Why spoiling good news with this shit?
My apologies. Just wanted to point out one of the risk factors. But still, how are they dealing with the volatility issue?

Yes, "the BTC community", whatever that means, has jumped to the conclusion that Ulbricht = DPR, essentially just on the fact that the FBI has alleged this. I don't consider that to have been proven yet, though.
But the FBI also seized falsified identification documents from him (such as driver's license and SSN). Do you still believe that DPR is someone other than Ulbricht?

Oh god... this is not going to end well. The guy who stole all those BTCs from the Sheep Marketplace was originally from Prague, right?
|
|
|
Why do you assume that the bitcoins are "the DPR Bitcoins"?
It's not me who is assuming. It is already flagged as "DPR seized wallet", which means that the BTC community think it is indeed the DPR wallet.

How long should the US have this defense pact with Japan? and if Japan causes the war with China why should the US side with Japan? I am sick of the US trying to get involved in other nations' issues when we are arguing over islands with no clear answer. Yes it's over islands but it's for economic reasons. Why waste millions of lives for a relatively small economic win?
If Japan bullies Russia, US should not interfere. But right now, that is not the case. Let's look back to history: 1961: China invades Aksai Chin (until then administered by India) without any provocation. It is still under Chinese occupation 1965: China invades Dong-Yin (part of Taiwan). Status quo. 1967: China invades Sikkim (part of India). Indians expel PLA soldiers. 1969: China invades Damansky Island (part of USSR). The Soviet Red Army beat the living daylights out of PLA. 1974: China invades Paracel Islands (until then administered by Vietnam) without any provocation. It is still under Chinese occupation 1987: China invades Sumdorong Chu Valley (part of India). Status quo. 1988: China invades Johnson South Reef (part of Vietnam). It is still under Chinese occupation Now they want to invade Shenkaku Islands (Japan) and Scarborough Shoal (Philippines). Tell me who are the bullies here. ![Grin](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/grin.gif)

Actually no....
Most noobs read this forum to figure out their "trading"
It takes so little to pass the Newbie section on here. Hmm... in most of the cases bearish / spam threads are immediately taken care by the older members. Also, even the newbies will notice the post count and trust ratings.

Even though the amount of Bitcoins in excistence is known, don't forget a lot of them have gotten lost due to wallets (and thus wallet.dat files) being lost/destroyed. It's a whole lot less than the 12,xxx mil.
There was another thread regarding the lost coins and it was calculated at some 5-6% of the current total. So the market cap can be slightly less, but not significantly so.

I am active in forum posting for the past 7-8 years and would like to work with you if the rates are good. Why don't you post your requirements (number of words per post, threads to replies ratio.etc) and the rate?

12,061,700 is 12 billion or 1.2 billion Lol... we passed the 1 billion mark when Bitcoin was $100 I think. The peak market cap was slightly less than $15 billion, which was achieved when BTC broke the $1,200 mark in Gox.

Great news from Switzerland. Weibel Thomas, the Grünliberale Partei representative from the canton of Zürich was the one who lead the initiative. My special thanks to him. Hermel, where can I find the list of the 44 other parliamentarians who supported the measure? Edit: Got it. It is here.

Switzerland might be the best place in Europe for the legalization of Bitcoins. The Swiss respect individual privacy, and they don't have problems with anonymity of financial transactions. The world banking capital can become the world Bitcoin nerve center was well.

Which anti-virus you were using in your system? How come the hacker got in to your Hotmail, when the anti-virus was active?

i would pay 100 BTC for time travel....2008 would be good ![Grin](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/grin.gif) Well it will be a "Read only" (or "See only") time travel. You can go back in time and watch whatever you want, just like a spirit. But you won't be able to do anything.

LOL - lately there have been many people on here making posts in an attempt to make the price of bitcoin fall so they can buy more cheaper.
This forum is full of experienced people, so posting here will be of no use. Earlier the bears were posting in the BTC-E trollbox, but it seems that the exchange is banning quite a lot of them.
