2261  Economy / Speculation / Re: Explanation for BTC price surge? on: February 12, 2013, 09:12:58 PM
#5 is ridiculous. You don't exactly kill bitcoin by buying up a large amount of bitcoin.. that just increases the value of everyone else's.

Sure you can kill (well not kill, it will live on at a much lower price) btc buy buying up a bunch. You buy a ton the price goes up you hold then off the market prices goes high and higher. Then you have a massive sell of. People buy into the hysteria, other sellers are no longer willing to sell they think they are going to get rich and say things like "we are all going to be weathy men" and the "price can only go up" and "there is always a bigger fool". So delusional IMO. Let SR shut down and see what it does to price.

I was selling 50-100 a day to my customers and when the price started shooting up I sold below spot. The reward should come from sharing BTC with the world not stashing it away like a troll. I stopped buying at 19, because I cant risk the volatility. I cant buy coins one day to have them devalue the next. If I were a seller on SR I would be looking for other options. It is great on the way up but, say you sold a lot and had all of your funds in BTC and while waiting for escrow to release of funds to transfer the bottom falls out, not a good position to be in. The speculation also punishes customers. The prices are not automated on SR So if sellers aren't changing the price every couple hours it inflates the price of their goods.

Treat it like money! Give it to the world. Stop being a bunch of greedy trolls. I promise the person/people that give it to the world are the ones who will windup rich. The person who gives the most number of people what they want will be the wealthy ones.

"It is not a good deal unless it is a good deal for everyone involved"
2262  Economy / Speculation / Re: [poll] - when will the rally end? on: February 12, 2013, 08:47:38 PM
otoh, you're getting further and further behind.  it'll take an epic crash just for you to get back in under your average selling price.

It is unfortunate that he didn't actually short... just sold some of his own holdings. Feeling the pain of a real short would do him good imo.

i was meaning to comment on that.  it is irritating to hear him say he's "short".

i did read the debate on "short" vs "long" and i know what some mean when they say you're short by virtue of the fact that you're not long.

but that leaves out another investment term that is often used and that is being "flat".  meaning you don't have any position at all which is what Adam really is.

you're absolutely right, if he was really short, he'd be more than just crying right now.

I sold some, thinking if the market ever takes a turn for the worse, i will have some money to buy in low and reduce my avg price... because i believe in bitcoin, no matter what the price is doing.

whats irritating is hearing that FOR SURE bitcoin will be worth way more next year no matter what happens... its not true... speculative bubble will pop if bitcoin doesn't grow as expected... while alot of people here are blinded by $_$, I put away my emotion long ago, and understand the risk is HUGE! ... and make no mistake... I'm in deep!

You are smarter than the rest, so much blind faith around here. The risk is huge and this thing is coming right back down. 27-31 would be my guess. Of course it can go higher there is no telling how long people will believe a lie. If you are in truly deep like you say I would think about selling soon. Just my 2 cent.

It is going to be hard to time the top. There will be lots of crying soon. First denial the accepted then hissy fits.

I believe in the idea of btc ( it is truly a beautiful idea) I just dont like the execution. It needs stable, real, market, pricing and it needs to be treated as currency not a commodity. I will say it one more time BTC is in a bubble the price is way out of line.
2263  Economy / Speculation / Re: Does this forum have bears? on: February 12, 2013, 07:10:10 PM
Cool if you trade there maybe you can ask why rbecker gets to steal my name and leave neg feedback without trading with me?

Probably because you're good at rubbing people the wrong way and he decided to let you know that you can't run around being needlessly hostile without consequences.

He can't auth as you and he can only steal your name if you don't register it.

A poor workman blames his tools, but sometimes he just needs to learn how to use them properly.

It is kinda funny that you mention having the wrong tools. I was a auto tech/ engine specialist for 10 years, so I know all about tools and how worthless poor quality tools are. You are saying I am the lazy one, but what kind of forum allows you to steal someone elses name? What kind of community lets people do that? Bictoin otc is a joke and a cruel on if you are new to BTC. I shouldnt have to be a programmer or web developer to get btc. And how many of you really think that serious business people are going to hold up licences and signs with a shoe on their head?

I do have a way of rubbing people the wrong way. I have been told that I am brutally honest or honest to a fault, but you always know what you are going to get with me. I dont mind telling people what they dont want to hear.
So i have not made to many friends there, a few though. Because I think that bitcoin-otc is the worst market place I have ever attempted to shop in. It is awful and a joke to me.
2264  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What exactly is wrong with LTC? on: February 12, 2013, 04:28:50 PM
2112 I have no idea what you are talking about Smiley, but as long as it means that LTC is sound that is all I need to know. I dont car if someone pre-mined.
2265  Economy / Speculation / Re: BTC prise isnt rising! USD is loosing value, thats all! on: February 12, 2013, 04:24:12 PM
It doesnt unless you think about it in physical terms. If you divided one gram of gold a thousands times you would have a grain of gold if you multiplied it thousand time you would have a brick. I you divide or multiply bitcoin you will have numbers and just numbers. I am a huge fan of bitcoin. I just think people believe it to be something it is not. I see lots of post with 1000 dollar btc or my favorite "I think we are all going to retire very wealth men" or something like that. BTC is not wealth and it is not scarce it is not the last digital currency either. Just because something is unavailable doesn't make it scarce ( at least not in aggregate). Just because the TP is down the hall from me when I take a dump doesn't mean it is scarce.

It may not be scarce for everyone, but it is for you at the time... I'd bet you'd be willing to pay alot more for it when your stuck on the toilet than in the store.

For sure... It is artificially scarce in that situation, Just like BTC. This is an important issue. So if TP was made artificially scarce by hoarding. Yes I would be willing to pay more maybe up to five dollars a roll, but there would be a limit. So what happens here is I buy at 2 then at 4 then at 5, but that is it after that fuck TP i will use magazines. So people are willing to bear the cost up to a point scarcity is not the only factor in determining value. If the BTC community continues to treat a currency like a commodity people will find alternatives. BTC is for spending not hoarding and the guys that do are selfish trolls that are tarnishing the image of an otherwise beautiful idea.

2268  Economy / Speculation / Re: BTC price shooting up to $24/BTC on: February 12, 2013, 05:05:24 AM
Yes for sure I would tell him it was not a store of value. After 40 years or so you could say it is not just a fad. If you asked if I would have said that salt wasnt a store of value when people started to use it as a currency. I would say no.

There is no comparison between BTC and commodities. BTC is just 1's and 0's in the cloud. BTC can go to zero tomorrow, that is not a store of value.
2269  Economy / Speculation / Re: [poll] - when will the rally end? on: February 12, 2013, 04:57:04 AM
What I really like about this thread is the shared frustration of trying to convince friends and family that bitcoin are a good idea. My favorite response so far:

Chris: "Have you heard of bitcoins?"
Friend: "No, I don't play World of Warcraft."

Ya I get that frustration when I first learned about it I loved it, now that I see how it works I wouldn't recommend BTC to close friends or family. I would rather they hold their wealth in tangible assets. Like silver or real-estate.

I did get my dad to set aside some money for LTC though.
2270  Economy / Speculation / Re: BTC price shooting up to $24/BTC on: February 12, 2013, 04:14:29 AM
if the demand was exceeding supply we would be seeing a lower bitcoin price

Really?
2271  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Just lost 190 bitcoins through Mt. Gox on: February 12, 2013, 04:11:43 AM
Tons I have lost tons of money. You cant reason with these guys they are under the bitcoin spell. Most people wont touch bitcoin and it is because it is not safe or stable. I personally think the btc community needs a reality check. The masses will not adopt btc it is harder to use and get. It has to be easy and safe anyone can see that! blaming the user or customer how has that worked for you in the past Holiday? This community looks at new users as scammers I look at them as clients.  Smiley

You are the one refusing to listen to reason, in various threads.

Bitcoin is volatile. It's a new, disruptive, voluntary currency. Price discovery is going to take some time, not measured in days or months, but years and decades. If this concerns you, perhaps the free market is something you should avoid!

The Bitcoin protocol is quite safe. Coin security currently depends on the user. This can, and will, change in time. Smart businessmen will find ways to protect inept users and they will line their pockets in the process.

Ultimately in life, regardless of the protections provided by businesses or governments, your well being comes down to your decisions and your actions. If you constantly refuse to protect yourself, make poor investment decisions, and refuse to save for a rainy day, you will eventually end up in a situation that might be unrecoverable. You can call this blaming the user or customer if you want, I call it facing reality. The world is a wonderful place, but it can also be cruel and unforgiving. People have been trained to shrug off responsibility, relying on the many security nets which society pays for and provides. This may provide comfort for a time, but can only end badly for those who refuse to accept responsibility for their actions. If Bitcoin has the potential to make the world a better place, teaching responsibility would be a fantastic start! Only after you accept responsibility can you truly be free.

As far as judging new users, they are a blank slate. Their actions define them. Generally, I distrust strangers. Unlike you, I've not lost "tons of money", so this method may have merit. This allows me the freedom to be generous with those close to me.

Ya thanks for the advice. I have been around dont really need any but thanks any ways, If you dont lose money than you dont invest. I left 1800 on top a pay phone, I spent over 70 thousand staying out of jail, I have had deals go south and lose. I lost about 40k during hurricane katrina. So I have lost lots of money I have made lots of money too.

If you think that BTC is a freemarket right now you are wrong. It is a manipulated market. When the monopoly that BTC currently enjoys ends it will get a lot closer to a free market.
2272  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer - MtGoxUSD wall movement tracker on: February 12, 2013, 03:59:29 AM
if the price dropped $4 tomorrow how many of you would start selling?

In order to drop to $20, BTC40k would need to be sold. The market has already absorbed dumps this big on the way up, I'd still be pretty bullish. It will take a significant sell off to break the trend imo. The adoption phase may be starting!

I laughed out load when I read this.
2273  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: Okay how about this. [WTB] LTC for $300 dwolla. on: February 12, 2013, 03:02:46 AM
Thanks for the advice Evan, but I would say that it is not a matter of if you can charge back or not to me. I sell all of my coins for PP and dont get charged back. To me it is more about who to trust not trust no one.
2274  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: [WTB] Btc for $300 dwolla. on: February 12, 2013, 02:52:30 AM

2279  Economy / Speculation / Re: BTC price shooting up to $24/BTC on: February 12, 2013, 02:09:23 AM
It's a damn fine currency though because in the long run it's inflation-proof. In this regard it's kind of like digital gold.

I agree 100% all it needs is a competitor to give it price stability.
2280  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Do people not take dwolla? or is it just me? on: February 12, 2013, 02:03:03 AM
