22621  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Reasons a business should accept bitcoin on: December 05, 2013, 02:55:49 AM
I don't think retail business will adapt to BTC quickly. But BTC is very convenient to online stores, and online merchants whose clients need high level of anonymity (porn, extremist organizations.etc).

In general, the advantages are: Anonymity, Ease of doing transaction, Low fees, No extra charges for currency conversion.etc
22622  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Performed a chargeback with my Visa Provider on: December 05, 2013, 01:28:50 AM
Hmm.. If I were in your place and using BTC instead of cash, then either I'd have used the escrow or could have sent in the BTCs only after getting fully satisfied with the work.
22623  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: IT pro says he threw out 7,500 bitcoins, now worth $7.5 million on: December 05, 2013, 01:20:13 AM
Here is a wallet with 8,000 BTCs (all created from mining?) which is not active ever since 2009?

https://blockchain.info/address/198aMn6ZYAczwrE5NvNTUMyJ5qkfy4g3Hi

Is this his wallet?  Shocked
22624  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin simply cannot replace fiat on: December 05, 2013, 01:16:34 AM
Bitcoin will not replace fiat or gold or anything else whatsoever although is has the potential to disrupt markets like that of international remmitances.

Bitcoin is worth more than gold already, apparently. :-)

Compare the $13 billion market cap of BTC to the estimated total net worth of all the gold ever mined on earth (some 200,000 tonnes, worth $9 trillion).
22625  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: My buddy is getting a divorce. Can the court seize half of his bitcoins? on: December 05, 2013, 01:11:28 AM
It was the Bolivian president and he was certainly not flying to LA.
You simply have to avoid US loving countries airspace.
And i doubt they would pull a stunt like this again anyway.

The Americans pulled up that stunt because Snowden was in the possession of national secrets. But I don't think that they will do the same to someone, who is just running away from his ex-wife.
22626  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Using bitcoinrichlist to see when the big players prepare for selling on: December 05, 2013, 01:09:59 AM
Edit: Also how could they miss this address https://blockchain.info/address/1F4TKLa8ioAiZSE4T47ihXY1RK3jp9dNkz it has over 90000 btc and it's not on their list.

That is a new wallet, created only a few hours ago. I think the Bitcoinrichlist is updated in the beginning of every month.
22627  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Help me to find restaurant in London! on: December 04, 2013, 05:30:31 PM
Use Coinmap.org to locate businesses which accept BTC.

http://coinmap.org/

As far as I can notice, there are about two dozen shops in London.

My choice would be Burger Bear (Rivington Street, EC2A 3DT London).

22628  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Need to switch to mBTC soon on: December 04, 2013, 05:26:24 PM
It is happening!

Bitcoinity

And you can measure in mBTC on Blockchain

I'll take it seriously when Coinbase and Bitstamp make mBTC their base unit. The adoption by Bitcoinity is a small, but important step.
22629  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: India = massive potential on: December 04, 2013, 05:23:33 PM
I seriously doubt that. Paypal had serious problems with the Reserve Bank of India. They even thought of pulling out from that country all together. However, after lengthy discussions they decided to stay. But Indian Paypal users face a lot of additional restrictions and limits. If something like this can happen to Paypal, which is legal in almost all the world nations, how can we be optimistic about the legal status of BTC in India?

22630  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: My buddy is getting a divorce. Can the court seize half of his bitcoins? on: December 04, 2013, 05:20:04 PM
Well , I don't know how that goes but if he denies in court that he has any other bitcoins(valuables) in his possession and after he is released he gets caught using them , well , isn't he going back to court for another round?

Not if he gets asylum in North Korea or Russia (or more realistically in Venezuela or Cuba).
22631  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How come there are no woman using Bitcoins? on: December 04, 2013, 05:16:51 PM
Coding / Programing.etc is a heavily male-dominated sector. This sector, as well as most of the "core" groups which initially supported BTCs are male-dominated.  As Bitcoin becomes more and more mainstream, we will see the share of males dropping.
22632  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Using bitcoinrichlist to see when the big players prepare for selling on: December 04, 2013, 10:38:31 AM
In the UK there is a legal mechanism and rules for inactive Bank accounts after 15 yrs. Also,  Banks already got wise to the problem and now charge fees for inactivity (as early as 1yr) This effectively lets them take ALL the money over time.

This is a good idea. For wallets with more than 5 years of inactivity, we can charge a 4% per year fee.
22633  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: High level of activity in Top 100 addresses on: December 04, 2013, 10:36:18 AM
That'd be scary if they were all owned by exchanges.  Sad

I don't think the majority of them are owned by exchanges. How many exchanges will be there who hold more than 10K bitcoins? I don't think that the number is more than 10 (10% of the top 100).
22634  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Help on: December 04, 2013, 10:34:29 AM
Use Bitcoin Armory:

https://bitcoinarmory.com/

The access to spend your coins is never exposed online by using their offline computer option. You use two computers, one normally for the Internet and one permanently offline which holds the private keys to your coins. Even if the Internet connected computer gets a virus your coins are safely locked on the offline computer. Also print out a paper backup.

For that he needs to buy an extra computer, and an extra printer. I suggest using the Blockchain.info wallet with 2 passwords and 2FA. As safe as it can get.
22635  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Bitcoinity using mBTC, and IMO is the right move. on: December 04, 2013, 10:31:31 AM
why didn't they just switch straight to Satoshi  Huh

That'll be horrible. The exchange rate will be 1 Satoshi = 0.000011 USD.
22636  Economy / Games and rounds / Re: 3BTC Giveaway !!!!!!!!! facebook contest on: December 04, 2013, 10:25:57 AM
he doesn't seem to be a native english speaker, probably not european either..

Hmm.. good guess. He is not European / American and neither he is a fluent English speaker. I think he is from China. Check this out.
22637  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: google? on: December 04, 2013, 07:03:17 AM
That site was set up by some noob using the Google Sites application. Just like we had Geocities years ago. No direct connection with Google.
22638  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: A perspective on just how rare it is to own 0.1 BTC: on: December 04, 2013, 07:00:09 AM
doubt that happens.. most of the early adopters are into bitcoin for anti-establishments reasons. i'm thinking most of us here wouldn buy into a paypal/western union cryptocurrency just because they're the greedy elitist assholes who keep us in chains. the reason why bitcoin has been successful is because it is NOT those big companies.

Agreed. But looking at the number of new users who purchase BTCs everyday, I think a lot of them are just looking for an investment or a way to hide their "dirty money". 90%+ of them purchase BTCs after reading about it in mainstream news media. What will happen if the media is flooded with similar news about an altcoin which is (behind the scenes) created by the greedy bankers.

Imagine headlines like "Can X-coin replace BTC?", "X-coin for late investors", "Experts claim X-coin can overtake BTC by the end of 2014"...

A lot of ordinary folks will fall in to the trap, which will erode the popularity of Bitcoin in the long term.
22639  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: A perspective on just how rare it is to own 0.1 BTC: on: December 04, 2013, 06:48:36 AM
It 's not bad nor late for bitcoin to follow some traditional investment practices but we have to keep in mind that bitcoin isn't playing by itself anymore. Alts are getting serious.

There is also a chance that Paypal / Western Union / Goldman Sachs will come up with an altcoin (and give it good mileage), in order to destroy the Bitcoin. The best way to destroy someone is to work from the inside.
22640  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: My buddy is getting a divorce. Can the court seize half of his bitcoins? on: December 04, 2013, 06:44:50 AM
It's just like DPR. He would get all of his BTC confiscated, but he probably has a brainwallet.

The FBI will make sure that he will get a life without parole (he is accused in 6 murder-for-hire incidents). What is the use with all those BTCs, if you never get a chance to use them? Maybe they'll be lost forever.  Cry
