2301  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: UFC 229: Khabib vs McGregor Prediction and Info Thread on: October 23, 2018, 11:19:47 AM
I'm actually one of those people...  I'm not really a huge whiskey or scotch fan as I drink mostly beer when I drink.  I was just curious and thought it might be good to share a bottle when there's a good UFC event.

And I found the review honest enough to make me try it for myself.

Oh and about Khabib vs Mayweather...  Nothing but another dog and pony show just like the McGregor - Khabib one.

Get a few different brands in and have a taste test haha. I really doubt the Khabib vs Mayweather fight will happen. They'll either both fight Mcgregor again of Floyd will get the Manny rematch sorted. I think it's probably likely both Khabib and Mcgregor will have other fights before meeting again though.

There is absolutely no chance a UFC fighter beats Mayweather considering no boxer ever beat him neither, hell at this point there is no need for anyone to fight him, just give him his lifetime award and send him on his way. They get money to get punched in the face but also get a belt, if there is no belt, there is no need.

Floyd knows this and this is why these fights are easy money for him and why he's so willing to do them. They're big money because they get fans from both sports and even casual fans who just get drawn into the hype and cough up for the pay per view. Floyd really isn't going to risk tarnishing his unbeaten run though so he'll only take fights he knows he's got a very good chance of winning and his opponents just being MMA fighters are much easier for him. Khabib would probably be far easier to beat than McGregor because McGregor has a dangerous left and Khabib just finishes people almost exclusively on the ground which is obviously useless in a boxing match.
2302  Other / Meta / Re: Bias on giving merit, forum negativity and positivity to the newbies. on: October 23, 2018, 11:11:14 AM
I know that it is not good to accuse higher ranks for a bias giving of merits. It is not good to generalize high rank users for the bias of giving merits.

Then why do it? This is just yet another pointless thread whining about nothing and we've been over these arguments dozens of times.

awarding of merit standards will be bend for a bit even if there were mispelled words and grammatical error.

So we shouldn't give merits if there's misspelled words or grammar errors? I think I've met very few people online who have perfect grammar (including myself) and don't make typos every once in a while, but that doesn't change the content of the post. It's the effort and point of the content we should be taking into consideration. As long as a post isn't pure spam or crap then it's up for being merited. Merit is just a system to stop the worse of the worst from rising though the ranks and it works in that respect. Sure, it's not easy to get merit but I don't think it should be given to people just for bashing away at a keyboard.

The users of this photo had a good post and recieved lot of merits and I do not know if there were any lower ranks could be able to receive lots of merits like this.

Some context would be nice. What are we meant to do with three contentless posts? They could be the best or worst posts in the world for all we know and you may or may not have an argument here but context is key.

Edit:  Roll Eyes at the ones you have used as examples. Those are all threads that do deserve lots of merit. I think if a newbie account would have posted them they would have got a similar amount. Believe it or not there are actually newbies that come here and make good to great posts. They're just dwarfed by the gazillions that come here and have no clue what they're meant to be doing here. I've literally seen dozens of newbies come and there first post is what do I do here, or how do I earn, because they've literally just been told they can earn good money here but have no idea what bitcoin is or how they can get it for free, and that's why we need the merit system to curb that behaviour from those sorts of users. If they came here and made a worthwhile thread then I'm sure they'd get appropriate merit, but they usually don't. Stick around and contribute and you'll likely get some pretty fast.

Thus, bias giving of merit will only apply to high ranks users. And if you are a newbie trying hard to start a thread for merits then you will end up getting a lot of negative reply. I have seen some post started with newbies or lower ranks in their merit related post and definitely get a negative feed back.

Negative feedback as in comments? Well, yeah. People are tired of the same old merits make the rich get richer and people only give them to the friends bullshit just because they haven't received any merits. 9 times out of 10 they don't deserve them.

NEWBIE + GOOD POST = IGNORE
HIGH RANK + GOOD POST = MERITS

I wish this would fit in my personal text.

Kinda ironic that you complain about bias but use a very biased selection of threads to complain about without direct links (possibly in attempt to obscure the content in them?)

I know, right? Didn't even include the content of the actual posts. It seems at least one of them is for reporting plagiarism. If someone makes a post that exposes accounts copy and pasting then the time and effort is usually considered meritable. Sometimes people post dozens of accounts in one post, but because you conveniently left out the content we can't possibly comment further on that.
2303  Economy / Reputation / Re: You think I am a scammer? mdayonliner's reputation on: October 23, 2018, 10:16:24 AM
For what it's worth: I thought it was admirable that you just continued posting, even after you received red trust. Too bad you gave up Sad

Whether it's admirable or not is up for debate but mdayonliner was obviously just hoping that the feedback would be removed if he stayed around and kept contributing for a bit. It was just his last ditch attempt to get it removed as there's no other option for him really unless you can build up some positive trades to neutralise it. He's moved on to another account now though, and I'm pretty sure I know which one it is already haha. I swear I'm developing a sixth sense for finding alts just by the way they type. I've probably spent too much time on this board  Embarrassed.
2304  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Cloudbet's English Premier League Football Pool Discussion Thread on: October 22, 2018, 10:51:11 AM
So if hahay or ralle get max points tonight, they'll end up as Yellow Cap winners with only 12.5 points. Definitely a tough week for everyone, you 5 guys who picked Everton at 2-0 must have been wishing you'd only watched the last 10 minutes!

@LFC nah I didn't watch any games on the weekend, no TV or fast internet, but watched live updates. So you can imagine how doubly infuriating it was. Awesome tix you got, I'm just glad Mo got his goal so he can help thump Belgrade.

@hilarious I had a 4-leg almost similar to yours: Everton, Mochen, Fiorentina and Lazio though: over 8/1. It was going so well too, Fiorentina was the last game to conclude and that 1-1 killed it. Be a fool to back Leicester on the basis of Arsenal's form, but football is football Wink

Yeah, very annoyed at the Fiorentina draw. They were one-nil up as well but only for ten minutes. All the others came in as well and would have just needed Arsenal tonight for a win.

Had Everton down as 1-0 on the predictor so annoyed at that late second goal.

I went for Arsenal 3-0 Leicester. I did initially put 2-0 but changed to 3-0 last night. I locked it so I could see what you guys predicted. Kind of regretting locking it & I’ve got a feeling it might be 2-0 now.

I am quite sure Leicster will score at least one goal tonight, and possibly even more. I am still thinking about 3:1, 2:1, 2:2 scores. Should be good match and hopefully I'll get this one correct since this week was absolutely terrible Smiley

They're both attacking teams and I think there'll be a few goals and Leicester can certainly get one. If I had to bet I'd go with over 2.5 goals but I'll be leaving this game alone other than the predictor.
2305  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: UFC 229: Khabib vs McGregor Prediction and Info Thread on: October 22, 2018, 08:15:23 AM
So Khabib is challenging Floyd Mayweather in a boxing match.  Who said Khabib doesn't want money?  Lololol.  I'm actually more interested in something like GSP vs Khabib happening than a boxing match with Mayweather.

Mayweather ain't losing no boxing match.  But that's the real money fight.  Khabib could retire after that not need the UFC anymore...
Now that Khabib is challenging Floyd Mayweather, doe's this means the supposed part 2 of Mayweather vs Pacquiao is now on limbo? Mayweather will more likely go with Khabib to ride with the hype than fight an aging Manny Pacquiao. Mayweather has nothing to lose if he choses Khabib over Pacquiao, actually more to gain. all he needs to do is dance and run around the ring.

Mayweather will do whatever will get him the most money. I'm honestly not sure if Khabib would get more interest than another fight with Manny and I'm sure that there's still more money and interest from the Manny fight. The McGregor fight was the money fight at the time and it's the only reason it happened. I'm sure there would still be much more money/interest in another McGregor fight than Khabib. Khabib might be the champion and better MMA fighter, but he still doesn't have the McGregor brand or hype. Khabib probably isn't as money motivated as Connor is either.

This is ot but I can't help myself.  Lololol.  Here's a decent review of McGregor's Proper No. 12 Irish Whiskey.  I've been so curious.  I heard some bad reviews, but I think these two Texan guys gave it a fair one I guess...

Proper 12 Review by Two Texans
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yzpv3V0jnCs

Whisky tastes like Whiskey. And people who 'talk' about or review alcohol just chat shit regardless of what they're reviewing: wine, beer, spirits, whatever. Go try it and see if you taste any 'floral notes', 'ginger spice' or 'baked apple' lol. There's been tests where wine critics have been given cheap wine but in expensive bottles and vice versa and they think it's the greatest thing ever. I'm sure Connor's whiskey isn't the worst but it won't be the best either, but people will be biased when reviewing it. If you like Connor you'll probably think it's great. If you don't then it'll be terrible. If you don't care either way then it'll probably just be ok. There'll be a lot of snobs about as well who won't like it just because it's new.

Regardless, people are idiots and will buy it just because it's McGregors. He probably doesn't even care about whisky himself but it's something that could make him insanely rich if he can promote it to become popular enough. Alcohol is big business these days, especially if you can get celebs to make it cool and 'popping'. Have you seen how much Diddy made from Ciroc? He made that brand via his promotion and now I think it's one of the most profitable premium vodkas

There is no way that the bout between Mayweather and Khabib won’t attract a lot of viewers especially when you consider the way he was able to subdue Mcgregor and made him tap out. People would want to see someone for once beat Mayweather and because of that they are going to troop in and watch that fight.

Roll Eyes. All Khabib can do is make people tap out. Which he obviously won't be able to do in a boxing fight. It would be boring. There'll be more interest in either of them fighting McGregor again.

Why would any boxer fight any UFC fighter ?

Why would anyone want to get punched in the face for a career. Money. That's all this is about? All three parties involved are just looking to make the most amount of money, especially Mayweather and Manny as their careers are coming to an end. Most big boxers do these money fights. Even the greats like Ali just started doing stupid fights for the money because he needed it. Give me a million and I'll fight them both at the same time.
2306  Other / Meta / Re: Fire Hydrants on: October 22, 2018, 07:43:28 AM
I was trying to think of solutions for alternative captchas as bypassing them automatically is obviously a huge problem with bots, but I get the feeling that if there was one it would have been implemented by now (and there are probably far smarter people than me working on this).

I don't think that captcha bypassing is a huge problem on the forum. The current captcha is sufficient.

I dunno. It seemed to be an issue with the ease at which bots seemed to be signing up and abusing things here.

Don't like doing captchas? Imagine solving them for a living...

Ha. I can imagine it will be incredibly tedious/mind-numbing work, but the people that do this for a living probably prefer it to whatever the alternative is for them - unemployment or something even worse. I think I'd rather fill out captchas all day than clean the men's toilets of a club or something, but probably not for $0.003 per one Cheesy. I guess it's something to be thankful for that this isn't our only option in life.
2307  Other / Meta / Re: Is there now a "Reason" section in the Ban message on: October 22, 2018, 07:34:16 AM
most of these copy/pasters don't read the rules before they embark upon their career of stealing other people's words, and for another they probably don't see plagiarism as doing anything wrong.
Considering how many accounts were banned because of copy and pasting, it may be worth to add warning in the field of sending message.
_
I suspect that most plagiarism spammers are run via automation, and the person behind the account will never see that warning.

I wouldn't say most, but obviously I have no facts to back this up. I think the case will likely be that most actually just do it manually, especially the smaller scale farmers who just come here to earn a little extra in their spare time. They probably have no idea about bots that do this or where to even get one so they'll either just find a post in a big thread and copy it, or sometimes they post it into a word-spinner and then post that to give them an extra layer or protection against detection. It's really simple and requires very little effort. Most are likely 'forced' to do this due to the fact that they can't speak English to an acceptable standard if at all. Then of course there will be the smarter users (or abusers) who will have bots that do this all for them, but I think they'll be amongst the minority (though they probably generate the most amount of spam given that it's automated). Hopefully merit will have thrown a huge spanner in the works of the bot abusers now but previously they will have been raking it in with ICO campaigns who would accept anyone and pay for anything with no quality checks.
2308  Other / Meta / Re: @theymos on: October 22, 2018, 07:25:44 AM
~
Tell me, what is purpose of buying forum accounts:

1) to scam
2) to spam
3) to run legit business which you can't do with :
   a) new account
   b) new account and cooper membership
   c) already existing account

I really don't get why we just don't let people buy higher donator titles that come with the benefits of ranks (like bigger signatures and avatars etc). The account market is just such a shady business now and only really causes scams and spam. Most people are either just selling non-existent accounts that they don't even have or hacked ones if they do. I'd bet that most of the people who even try buy accounts these days get scammed as there's no protection for them as most escrows wont want to get involved. If we're going to allow account sales then just let users buy the benefits of the rank from the forum and we essentially shut down the market in the process. It's win-win to me. We already have Copper Membership so Silver and Gold ones should be added. It would also shut up all the whiners who complain at merit because at least there's a legal fix for them to bypass ranks; they just have to cough up for it.
2309  Economy / Reputation / Re: The Pharmacist,actmyname,Vod.. The mafia trying to get controll of bitcointalk ? on: October 22, 2018, 07:08:05 AM
The Pharmacist, actmyname & Vod are actually part of the Bitcointalk Illuminati, not mafia. They already control the forum. Theymos is just a front.

Honestly, sometimes I think we should just get rid of the trust system and just let users leave feedback that doesn't effect a score, but of course this would really only benefit scammers who would then have a field day without their red paint, but maybe we should just let people be reckless with their own money. Whatever we do to try curb abuse people will just abuse that or find a way to game it so there's nothing we can really do to please everyone.
2310  Other / Meta / Re: Fire Hydrants on: October 22, 2018, 07:01:49 AM
I've been thinking that you could maybe make a better and perhaps less frustrating captcha by showing people a randomly-generated inkblot, asking "what do you see?" with a free-form text field, and comparing their response to everyone else's responses to that inkblot, using the same principle as recaptcha.

I was trying to think of solutions for alternative captchas as bypassing them automatically is obviously a huge problem with bots, but I get the feeling that if there was one it would have been implemented by now (and there are probably far smarter people than me working on this). It might help if anyone knows how they're most frequently bypassed. If they can't be done by a bot automatically does that mean they have to be done by a human click farm somewhere being paid to enter them? If so, how do they actually do them? Do they have a program that just gives them the captcha to fill out on demand? Would browser fingerprinting and IPs help here? As in, if the browser or IP doesn't match the one that is actually implementing it on the website then it bars you? I might be fundamentally misunderstanding how they work in the first place but if I knew how they were being bypassed I could put more thought into it. Or just give up wasting my time on it haha.

Is cloudflare doing the same as google, checking your browsing habits and displaying pictures matching your "interest"?

Because I've just got this one:

At least, it's pretty easy to identify.

Lol. Do you have an active interest in fire hydrants? Maybe you might be on to something there though. For instance, it asks you a question or shows you an image you should be familiar with based on your browsing history/cookies (though maybe this is too Orwellian for some). So for example it could show users here a bitcoin logo and ask you what that is. Obviously people here would know what it is but bots of bypass farms wouldn't.
2311  Other / Meta / Re: How could i improve my account? on: October 22, 2018, 06:48:58 AM
Everything you need to know can already be found: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2766177.0

You rank up to Junior by getting one merit (will probably be very hard for you). Alternatively, you can buy a Copper Membership. You won't be a Junior Member until you get the one merit but you'll have most of the benefits of one (post images and a bigger signature etc).

We can file this one under the stupid poll thread.
2312  Other / Meta / Re: Ban appeal on: October 22, 2018, 06:47:30 AM
I ask you to create a precedent in my face when a positive contribution to the forum was much more than a negative, and this has been taken into account (in any case, I think it's worth a try Cool).

Busting a few alts doesn't give you a free pass to copy and paste. The only amendment to the copy and paste = permaban rule I would be ok with would be to remove a user's signature indefinitely or for x amount of time after a temp ban expires and they possibly only get it back if they've been actively contributing during that. Most probably won't bother though because I think people only care about the fact that they can't earn money from that account anymore so it not having a signature would still essentially be a 'ban' to them.
2313  Economy / Reputation / Re: Is this not merit abuse really ? on: October 22, 2018, 06:35:08 AM
Perhaps if you disagree with how someone doles out their merits, the proper term is merit carelessness, rather than abuse.(If no financial incentive seems to be tied to it.) I really don't think QA handing out merits in a giveaway on Wall Observer is abuse. Although I do agree it is a bit careless.

Yes QA is little bit careless about spending smerit. Its clear that his intention isn't abuse the system or involved with sale or trade. Because even he didn't join signature, its means he isn't greedy abut it. I just got all point from admin reply. I am glad to see that admin care about members. He don't like to dry smerit due to unspent. Obviously this is a good intention.

However I will not lock this thread since admin reply here with few important things. So others peoples will able see that. And I almost clear about aim of admin regarding merit system.

He should be removed as merit source in my opinion. He seems to be mistaking merit for candy that he will give to anyone who asks for it.

I mean seriously:

Oh, I am going to do one thing before I sign off for now. Since most people are off work/school today because it’s the weekend, and there should be more people on line than during the week and I have too much merit laying around, the next 5 people to respond to this thread get 30 merit.

could really handle some merit!

30 merit left

See what I mean! If I had done this 4 years ago any day of the week this thread would already be at 10 pages after my post.

30 merit left? Cheesy

Late for the merit party. Pity. Could use a few  Grin

All given 30 points by QuestionAuthority. Giving it out to anyone who asks for it is reckless and it defeats the entire purpose of the system.

You sure about that? You and your "friend" sure do love overusing semi-colons;

It depends on your plan and where you want to specilize In the crypto Space; if you want to be a trader, I would advice you get much knowledge through babypips

Most of ico reviews of new ico popping up everyday are paid reviews;
I don't know why this ico's are not tired yet;

That is close to impossible; crypto is a threat to the traditional financial institutions; they wouldn't allow that to come to a reality

This is very unprofessional; that why you see a group of 50k members; but when the want to vote for there coin only 500 people would vote.

I know of a few ladies in crypto; but I don't advice any female to go into day trading; cause woman and emotions doesn't work well;  except long term hold and bounties

That's not a coincidence.

2316  Other / Meta / Re: My Account has been Banned, Why ?? on: October 21, 2018, 03:03:06 PM
The usual. Copy and pasting:

In my opinion. Bitcoin and Gold both have differences features mostly on the value and uses. There are many ways to earn bitcoin like trading, invest, gambling and to join signature or bounty. Most people nowadays are negotiating on the cryptocurrency because you can use the bitcoin buying stuff or use it payment on online or even offline Otherwise, Gold is also better investment but too hard to have it, and if you already have the gold, you should keep it safe.
Yes that right, I'm also think like that Bitcoin and gold are two different things, Bitcoin is not a gold competitor because market share is different, if any say Bitcoin can replace gold then it will never happen, gold until whenever will be accepted and price stable. So Bitcoin will not be possible to replace gold, let alone I do not think that Bitcoin is a competitor for gold.

I think bitcoin and gold are two different and separate things, bitcoin is not a gold competitor because market share is different, if any say bitcoin can replace gold then it will never happen, gold until whenever will be accepted and price stable while bitcoin not necessarily can last 100 years.

Betting on Everton on an ambitious parlay. Last night choked up on all my legs, teams just aren't as sharp after the break, goals notwithstanding.

I put my free £5 bet on a five fold including Everton. They should win but I think it'll only be by a goal or two. Will then need Fiorentina, Borussia Monchengladbach,  Inter and Arsenal all to win as well though for £95. Don't normally put more than 3-folds on but I get a little bit riskier or experimental with my free bets.

I’m looking forward to the midweek CL action though. I’ve got tickets for LFC vs Red Star & also the LFC vs Cardiff game next weekend.

Yeah, well I'd much rather watch the best of Europe than a load of mediocre English teams. Some big games as well like Manchester Utd v Juventus and Barcelona v Inter.
2318  Other / Meta / Re: Stricter moderation for beginners and help board? on: October 21, 2018, 09:49:50 AM
That board needs a dedicated moderator or two (as do all the other boards) as it doesn't have any currently, but we also probably need some sort of Beginners and Help sub for the alt coin section as it is mostly full of things to do with Alt coins and their bounties or how to earn etc. Implementing a Newbie welcome message when users sign up with links to the most commonly asked questions and helpful guides etc will also reduce the same old trash begin asked over and over again and I think that's something we should do asap.
2319  Other / Meta / Re: Ban Duration on: October 21, 2018, 09:37:31 AM
What is the name of the account? The ban will continue to say seven days and doesn't count down but it will expire after seven. You probably just haven't waited sufficient time as it doesn't magically expire on the morning of the seventh day but after whatever time it was issued and most people who complain about this are just being impatient. For instance, if the ban was given at 5pm you'll have to wait untill then.

Content is usually checked, but it's a tedious process and sometime you can mess up. Sometimes you think you've got a hit on google but will then find it's a site that has copied this one like in this case and there are several bitcointalk mirrors you need to be weary of.

Can anything be done against Swiftcointalk administrator? I suppose not much.

Probably not. It is a pretty scummy practice though and a few sites have done this in the past. Maybe theymos could fight them legally with cease and desists but not sure if that's something he has time for or even wants to do.

Anyway, as mainconcept already said, he is actually a copy and paster and this is the post he was spotted and banned for:

I don't think bitcoin failed as a currency because bitcoin is used for online transaction and the price of bitcoin is not stable, but if bitcoin become stable maybe it might be possible that bitcoin will become currency, but for now, there's no chance that bitcoin will be used as currency. Bitcoin is not a failed cryptocurrency, its more of a springboard.

The bitcoin price is not stable, if bitcoin become stable maybe it might be possible that bitcoin will become currency, but for now, there's no chance that bitcoin will be used as currency.

I really just wish this practice just didn't exist in the first place as it's a massive waste of time and tedious and time-consuming to detect, but as long as you can get paid to post here it's something we're going to have to continue to tackle. I'm not sure how you could ever stomp it out completely but maybe there should be some sort of auto-checker implemented to detect abuse on the go.
