Wait, what if everyone on the forums starts with a scammer tag, then if your ponzi scheme or exchange or investment or whatever lasts for more than 6 months (or 6 transactions), then you have to petition the mods to have the scammer tag removed?

This way, you can tell who's a scammer immediately (it's everyone, everyone is a scammer).

Now this is an idea I can get behind.
2322  Other / Off-topic / Re: Should bitcointalk exist? on: October 09, 2012, 08:49:10 AM
we need another bitcointalk.. if this place were to ever go down and never appear again where would we go for all of our entertainment?

where would we go for all of our bitcoin news?

Are there other skins available for your forum?  I found it really, really hard to read for more than a few minutes with that style sheet.

Good job to ya! This is what fuels that bitcoin economy......more suckers! lol

Finally we found what Bitcoins are backed by.
I propose a contest for old timers on how many scams they fell into. The winner may win a special forum tag. I am now at 2 points: a PPT and GLBSE.

I think usagi's got you all beaten when it comes to everything s/he touches going to hell in a handbasket.

It's good to see you hanging out in Atlas' thread, dank.  He's another teenager with many brilliant ideas.  You two should get along well - your outlooks are so similar.
2325  Other / Meta / Re: Disallow Scams and Ponzi Schemes in the Forum rules. on: October 09, 2012, 05:01:25 AM
I think the disconnect here is between theymos' vision of this forum and what the community believes is needed.  theymos has articulated his vision for the forum before - it's a forum for free speech, not a place which exists to give newbies a positive impression of Bitcoin or to project a professional image of Bitcoin to the world at large.

Rather than trying to bludgeon theymos into re-purposing this forum, it would be better if those who believe more moderated or more "professional" forums are needed set about creating an online presence which reflects their own vision.

Don't worry folks.  It's just "an annoyance".

I'd think that disaster would be like situations where GLBSE is forcibly shut down by the authorities or the datacentre is attacked by a natural disaster.  Wink

That would be more of an annoyance than disaster.

So when you do start taking lessons then?

Who needs lessons when you can connect with Hendrix on the cosmic plane and channel his soul through your body?

May I remind you, I'm 18, and I don't plan on being successful until the end of the year.

Freudian slip there. You've already told us that you don't plan things but sit around thinking about and wishing for them and wait for the Universe deliver them to you - preferably gift wrapped with a bow on  top - whenever.

Do you all realize, you're bordering obsessive compulsion disorder, regarding my ventures?  You all spend so much time and energy on it, everyday, yet you don't even like it.

Other people spend more time and energy on your ventures than you do?  You certainly got that right.

Is one of those Mary Had a Little Lamb? as requested by Rarity?  I'm not brave enough to open them after my previous encounters with dank's music.

So "dank", I take it you have no interest in complying with the law?

Does the law regulate unicorns ?

Only invisible pink ones.

They could also insure the vetted companies' clients and shareholders against this kind of failure.

The premiums would be out of reach of most small businesses, members.  Just think of how much such an organisation would have had to pay out from the failures which have happened this year alone.  Its in the millions.

Dank Bank is a name for a program that accept deposits of 'nonexistent' commodities, and pays interest.

No dank, it is not a "programme" - not even a high yield investment programme.  It's simply you taking out personal loans from a few different people at a high rate of interest.  Promoting it as a "programme" or "investment scheme" is exactly what's likely to get you into trouble, whereas you're perfectly free to take out unsecured personal loans as long as you can find lenders willing to give them to you.

You also need to think about the tax implications of raising 5 million dollars.  You're not a registered non-profit and you're not a business.  It will be regarded as personal income and taxed accordingly.  Hell, as you're not a registered non-profit, you're probably breaking the law by soliciting donations.  Nobody's going to care if it's a few hundred dollars, but you can bet that if you start collecting millions in donations someone's going to bust your ass.

What makes your research unique and sets it apart from all the other research currently happening regarding climate change?  There's a lot of existing research into climate change and water levels, how will your thesis be different from papers already published on the topic?

I will finally tie it all together in one big unique theory.
No to be honest its just yet "another" paper about the last bigger climate change from the last Glacial Maximum to the the recent times. Its nothing to accuse wether one of the two sides of ClimateChange theorists of anything. It is just giving a "story" of how things develop without human influence. I can, to a certain extend, describe the last climate change and it effects to southern europe by applying various models to a terminal lake (a lake that only has inflows and where the water level is solely controlled by evaporation aside of that) to show how things developed. For that reason i had to take a few dozen samples for age dating, and a lot of sedimentary logs to describe the way it developed - and when what happened. It's pretty easy to spot times when water rose as well as times when water sank.
Its pretty much comparable to what people have already published on Lake Lisan (Lake Kinnareth/Sea of Gallilea) yet on another timescale.

Sounds cool.

That's like saying I break up with a girl and she takes it the wrong way, goes through hell, and it's my fault.  Nobody can make you feel anything, you make yourself feel emotions, it's 100% in your control.  Furthermore, you know nothing about my experiences with my family, who are you to judge?

Most of us have enough integrity to not ask for handouts from those with whom we're in conflict, from whom we're estranged, or who we plain just don't like, though.

If you asked a girlfriend with whom you'd broken up and who was going through hell over the break up to give you money, you'd be a prized douche-bag. You might want to pick a better analogy.

Believe it or not dank, your parents have experienced being a teenager with dreams.  Their dreams might have been different to yours, but they were just as important to them as yours are to you.  You might want to ask them some day about what happened to those dreams and what they'd do differently if they knew then what they know now.

I think it is more than hosting, doesn't MtGox OWN this forum?

As far as I know the forum is owned by Sirius.  It doesn't look like the domain name has changed hands since it was first registered last year.
