241  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [Unlocked Thread!][ANN][BITS] BitSeeds - A Currency that Grows! on: May 01, 2015, 08:53:53 PM
The new network has been created and the coins are aging to maturity.

We will be relaunching as soon as possible.  Thank you for your patience.

"New Network" what happens to the coins on the current network ?

they are no good.. just delete the wallet

This is incorrect. They said upthread that you'll retain your coins on the relaunched network.  Delete the wallet application but keep your wallet.

Even I own more bitseed than the 24 hour volume, lol

No one has been able to move coins on or off the exchange, so that's hardly surprising.
242  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [UNO] Unobtanium Info & Discussion - Current wallet 0.9.5 on: April 30, 2015, 04:33:16 AM
Wow. Getting really close to that block halving and merge mining kicking in at block 600,000.  Blockstream seems to be behind schedule for their pegged sidechains that is planned to be implemented in UNO. Wonder when that's going to happen?

Let's get back on track and continue with that conversation, since it actually has a purpose, and isn't just more name calling.

You are on Bitcointalk, Gabe. Probably best to keep your expectations low about the quality of discourse...

So, what you're saying is you plan to release a new version of the wallet client that would disable proof of work and rely on only proof of stake from here onwards. And anyone who purchased or mined Bitseeds will still have their balance (and presumably would be able to receive any balances stuck on the pools)?

While I was looking forward to continuing mining in the future, I don't have a problem with any of the above if it gets things up and running again.

What about the 900K+ mined by the person/people who attacked the network?  Looking at the rich list I have to assume they own most of the wallets in the top 10 aside from the Foundation's and one other one I recognize.  Any other changes happening beyond switching to POS only? Thanks for the update.
You are essentially correct.

We are not concerned about the 900k coins.  Those individuals mined those coins at great expense.  They earned them.

While technically an "attack" as the blockchain was damaged, there is no evidence of malicious intent.

Yeah, I only used the term attack because it's how you guys have been referring to it.

I'd love to verify this, but I swear there were times that massive hashing power was pointed towards mining on behalf of other wallets on the bitops - like they were gifting Bitseeds or something.  I was refreshing the page periodically during the early mining stages when I was mining on Bitops and I saw some weird jumps in hashing power that didn't make sense. Wish I'd taken screen shots.

Anyway, sounds fine to me.

we would appreciate community feedback on the following solution.

We intend to create a new blockchain with the exact same number of coins that had been generated on the network as of block 76300.  We are going to use the same blockchain parameters so old keys will still work.  Coins will be sent to the exact same addresses on the new blockchain as currently exist on the old blockchain.

Consider it an effective hard fork.

While proof-of-work mining was originally desirable, the nature of the cryptocurrency space no longer affords an energy efficient manner of proof-of-work mining that is also secure enough for long term use.  The space has simply evolved that quickly and that is a reality we must face.  There is the possibility of a multipool in the future to allow miners to still participate distribution.

Trying to figure out why the market is back open on Bittrex but there's still no wallet to download, and the pools appear to be offline.

Have to assume it's a bad idea to open the older version from a couple of days ago, so I guess I'll wait for further info.  Huh
247  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [Unlocked Thread!][ANN][BITS] BitSeeds - A Currency that Grows! on: April 24, 2015, 05:27:46 AM
We have removed the wallet downloads so we don't have to keep telling people to download a new one.  The network had to hash block 76300, first.  POS should confirm those blocks once the network returns to normal.

We have added checkpoints to the blockchain to protect it's integrity and are adding those to the wallets.  Mac wallets will also be provided.

Oh, I see. You said "The new Windows wallet is available on the Source Forge repo" so figured it was there already.  I'll keep an eye on the thread and Twitter so I can download it and stake.  Thanks.

And also thanks for providing a Mac wallet so I don't have to run Parallels while staking! Smiley

The new Windows wallet is available on the Source Forge repo.

Please uninstall your old wallet before attempting to install the new one.

I checked http://sourceforge.net/projects/bitseedsofficialrepository/files/

and it says this project has no files...

Wow. I had no idea the Bittrex market would be down so long. I hope whatever the problem is that it's possible to resolve it soon.
250  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][FLO] Florin | The original tx msg coin | Blocktech Project Alexandria on: April 22, 2015, 06:52:35 AM
So happy I randomly bought a big chunk of Florin a while ago. I wasn't sure why but it seemed a good buy at the time. It had spiked a few times, double and even triple it's regular value so I saw potential. Now with Alexandria on the cards my bag is looking more and more golden. I wonder what will happen to the price. People are saying 1000 sats soon, and it will just go up after that. Word is spreading now about Alexandria after the YouTube video. If we look at the analogous Vtorrent coin it's really skyrocketed the last few weeks, and seems to be a similar project, albeit not as user friendly and not as technically advanced as Alexandria. So I'm continuing to buy florin while it's still under 1000.

it's clear that if Alexandria becomes the next big thing, since BitTorrent, Netflix or YouTube, and everyone is using Florin in the app, just a handful of florin becomes extremely valuable. Indeed one of the most impressive and undervalued crypto coins maybe ever.

Beta testing for Alexandria is coming soon, exciting times we live in!

I collected a pile of FLO last year since I first heard about Alexandria. I'm in the alpha and it's very cool.

Can't wait for the finished product!

FYI, I installed the updated Windows client today and since the update I frequently get "not responding" in the title bar and the spinning pointer. It stops after a minute or so, works normally, then does it again after a couple minutes, over and over.  This wasn't happening with the last version.

Any ETA on a Mac client so I can stake without having to boot a VM?  Smiley
252  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [Unlocked Thread!][ANN][BITS] BitSeeds - A Currency that Grows! on: April 20, 2015, 05:26:54 AM
what is wrong with this pool??
bs.maxminers.net

There is something seriously weird going on with the network. Both pools are acting up, not just Maxminers. I haven't gotten a payment from bitops in about 3.5 hours, it keeps periodically showing speeds that make no sense, and MiningRigRentals keeps showing "pool sick" errors for some of the rigs I'm renting but not others...  Very strange. I sure hope it gets sorted out and I get paid for my hashes.

On the plus side, I am staking, so there's that.

Update: things seem to be working again on Maxminers...
253  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [Unlocked Thread!][ANN][BITS] BitSeeds - A Currency that Grows! on: April 20, 2015, 01:35:17 AM
Weird how much the difficulty is bouncing up and down. Was seeing some odd numbers on Maxmining (unknown block finder; 0% shares) but they seemed to fix themselves after a few minutes.

Will be very interesting to see how things go over the course of this week.

Edit: the pool seems to be getting more of the odd null/unknown block finders and 0 shares.

Since there's no Mac wallet yet, I booted a Windows 7 VM and installed the Windows client.  I got the following error when launching the QT:

"The program can't start because libwinpthread-1.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem."

I reinstalled with no change.  Suggestions?

The new windows wallet is up. You can download it at bitseeds.org

Thanks. That worked.

Fortunately I had another VM with the right dependencies already installed so I was able to get the first version of the wallet to work there.  Hey, looks like I'm on the rich list, albeit lower down than I would've been.  Cool.

The official thread now seems to have been deleted by a mod...?

I grew up in a house surrounded by trees and have had plans for a long time to use (hopeful) future profits from cryptocurrency to buy land here on the island (Big Island, Hawaii) for conservation and reforestation.

Forests (if not necessarily rainforests) are my absolute favorite places in the world; the cause of reforestation is one I care about. So I hope that this project is successful in its stated goals. Guess time will tell...

Wallet won't sync...

any nodes?

The wallet syncs, it just does it slowly right now, presumably because not a lot of people are mining. Transactions definitely go through; I successfully received some as recently as a day and a half ago.
