301  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][RZR] Razor - Cutting Edge of Technology ☆[TOR]☆[No Pre/ICO] Updated Nodes! on: February 20, 2015, 03:39:18 AM
Razor never had anything going for it, it's main feature of TOR in the wallet, is already incorporated in every single altcoin/Bitcoin by design.

No, they do not run on TOR.

Yes they do, all coin wallets have TOR capabilities. Are you trolling or just this misinformed? You can run your bitcoin, darkcoin, dogecoin, peercoin, orangecoin, fleecoin, zeecoin...wallet over TOR. This makes Razor's main feature the stupidest I've ever seen for an altcoin, while also making Razor worthless.

There is a difference between the capability of running a client while connecting via TOR and having it built into the client so it *only* connects via TOR.

Again, you can make it so that your bitcoin/any altcoin wallet Only runs over TOR. So again, Razor's main feature is obselete.

Are you saying a developer can implement this or that a user can do this to their own client?  If the former, that's the nature of open source software and by that logic the features of all currencies are thus obsolete, and so it's pointless to even bring up.

If you mean the latter, then you are assuming way more technical knowledge than most people have, and you're also ignoring that Tor only works well if it's used 100% consistently, and used entirely within a Tor network, which wouldn't happen if you expect individuals to set it up and run it themselves.

So there is an actual distinction between Tor being built in and always-on, vs a client merely being capable of using it.

Accidentally opened the Bitinum wallet instead of Bitcoin earlier today; I mined it on iSpace months ago and forgot about it. Network still seems to be working.

We should push for or make sure that we get on Altmarket
https://altmarket.com/docs/AltMarket_Update_Dec2014.pdf

XPD needs something to pass the time and a better trading UI would be fantastic

I don't think there's any need to push for it to be on AltMarket - it's Bryce's coin and his exchange, so I think it's safe to assume it will be added sometime after the beta.
305  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [NAUT] Nautiluscoin - First Coin w/Stabilization Fund - Digishield on: February 12, 2015, 07:32:48 AM
I can't blame Brian Kelly for deciding to avoid BCT.  This thread and the moderated one are perfect examples of why.

Guys gotta keep in mind we are not the intended market for NAUT - it's his wealthy investment clients and CNBC viewers. He'll do what he feels best on his schedule and I'm sure he doesn't care one satoshi what people here think about him... which is the correct decision from a business standpoint.

That is where you are wrong.
When he started this coin he came here to look for investors and he found them here. BK promissed a lot of things here, but none of them have become reality. Because of these false promisses people start to ask questions, questions that BK doesn't like because they are true.

To avoid those questions BK and his partner in crime Flyingmongoose avoid this forum that they created.
This is wrong and NOT a correct decision from a business standpoint. it is stikking your head in the sand.

You say that WE are not the intended market for NAUT? WHY did he start here? HE can't get a single investor from "his" investment clients.....why? because the product SUCKS!!!

There is no developer that maintains/develops this coin, BK doesn't have a clue what crypto is nor can he convince people to invest in this. The only thing he can is promise things and take your money....

Good luck with your dream

Dude, think that one through a little more.

Kelly deals with multi-million dollar clients. What kind of investor in that category is he going to find on BTC? None. And he has always known that because it's obvious.

He came here to do R&D.

He got what he needed, plus plenty of extra FUD and other tedium, and he moved on.  Bitcoin is *just* mature enough for certain types of Wall St. style investors to dip their toes into it and altcoins are not really there yet, and I'm sure he's well aware of this and had no intention of marketing NAUT to his clientele this soon even if POS had turned out to be easier to implement.

In time his clients will be asking him about what crypto they should invest in and by that point he'll have the bugs ironed out of Nautilus and he'll hand it do them.  Much easier to sell to a market that comes to you because they see all the big players (from his clients' perspective), rather than try selling it to a market who doesn't even really understand what the hell cryptocurrency even is yet.

Make sense?

309  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Taxes and bitcoins on: January 29, 2015, 05:56:43 AM
Checking with a CPA is always a good idea (although the general level of unfamiliarity most people have with cryptocurrency means they may not really know the answer).  But the last I heard, the IRS hasn't changed their position from what they said last year:

http://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2014-03-25/bitcoin-is-property-not-currency-in-tax-system-irs-says

Basically as others have said, it's taxed with capital gains, and so basically treated like a stock, at least at the federal level.

You don't get taxed for holding it, but do when you convert to fiat.  So if you're a buying and holding for the long term then you should pay a lower percent of your gains.  If you're trading back and forth between fiat it will probably be more complicated. Hodl.   Smiley

310  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][DOGE] Dogecoin - very currency many coin - v1.8 Required Update on: January 29, 2015, 05:26:08 AM
Since searching still seems to be disabled, I don't know if this has been pointed out yet, but the download links in the OP need to be updated. Not only are they labeled 1.7, the links don't work.

Anyone looking for the latest release clients can find them here, though:

312  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [OSC]OpenSourcecoin Mandatory Update 7/1/14 on: January 21, 2015, 10:04:55 AM
The broken OSC wallet is 'wierd' ... because outside of cryptsy everything is working just fine.
So it seems to be more a case of incompetent, not gonna be bothered with fix a glitch on their server.

But the list of 31 "broken" wallets is getting a little to long.

It's getting a little annoying, is what it is.  I still suspect Cryptsy doesn't have the money to cover the "broken" wallets and that's why they never get fixed.  But there's no way to know since they don't really acknowledge the problem and ignore tickets.

Why RZR price has dropped so deeply?

It's Razor -- slashed the price!

Sorry, can't resist a bad pun
314  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [$NAUT] Nautiluscoin - First Coin w/Stabilization Fund - MODERATED on: January 15, 2015, 11:21:27 PM

It is not an update, he is just informing, not even working on it yet... You can imagine how much time that might take Wink
Another 6 months? Oh sorry I forgot, we are here for the long HAUL! Right??? HODL! Cheesy

The only reason why the price is not much dumped yet is because mining pressure is so low, nobody interested.
But those who are out of patient will be dumping so soon. Watch it ! Should I dump 95k of my NAUT ? Time will tell.
No buy walls, 2 BTC sell of NAUT will change the price to 1k SAT right away.
Watch it ! It is the best time to dump if somebody wants to get out (if you NAUT worths 2 BTC worths down to 1k)!!

Go for it.

Can somebody take over this coin....this BK thing is getting rediculous.

We need to move forward. We have been scammed by BRIAN KELLY from http://www.briankellycapital.com/ . Now let that be the past and lets move on and look for someone who want to take over this coin while it's still on the exchanges

Read upthread a few posts. Julian is working on an update.
316  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [OSC]OpenSourcecoin Mandatory Update 7/1/14 on: January 13, 2015, 01:53:54 AM
A warning - be careful trading this on Cryptsy (or anything there).  They have at last count 31 broken wallets, including OSC, making it impossible to withdraw. Has been offline for at least 6 weeks now.  I suspect they're trying to cover insolvency since I can't imagine they're actually that incompetent.
317  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][BLAKE-256] DIRAC (XDQ) - Advanced Finance on: January 09, 2015, 02:43:51 AM
How do I add a node to a Mac Wallet, I tried doing it from the debug console but couldn't get it to work and not sure where to look for a config file on a mac....thanks

Here's how you get to the config file for any (most QT based anyway) cryptocurrencies on a Mac:

1) in the Finder, open the Go menu and hold down the Option key.  This will reveal the hidden Library folder located in your user folder. Click Library about half-way down the menu to go to that folder.

2) in ~/Library/ look for Application Support and open that folder. Inside you will find Dirac (or whichever currency)

3) if you don't already have a dirac.conf (bitcoin.conf, etc.) in the folder, create one in Textedit, making sure it is plain text in the Format menu so no special characters are added.  If the conf file exists, double-clicking it should open it in Textedit.

4) paste in your addnodes and save

Hope that helps - you may have already figured it out by this point, but I thought I'd post the instructions in case others needed them.

Thanks for the tips, worth Smiley
I believe #2 is already in the mofo-wallet, and I will forward these recommendations to our standard client dev.

I just had a look at your website. If you have any questions at some point if you are doing a tutorial, feel free to contact me.   Smiley

Cool. Thanks, Damelon, and happy New Year.
320  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [NXT] Nxt - Official Thread on: December 31, 2014, 04:04:56 AM

Good idea on OP. Will do that later.

As to the passphrase: this is integral to what a brainwallet ís. In all actuality the passphrase isn't a "pass" to "unlock" and account at all. In a brainwallet system áll accounts already exist, and the passphrase ís the account. So it's not possible for the system to see if your pass is incorrect, because it's just showing you that actual pass.

Ideas welcome, though, as we are aware this is confusing for people who are used to "unlock this file by this pass" ways of doing things.
If you like something a bit more "traditional" you can use the MOFO wallet, which does use a wallet.dat system: http://www.mofowallet.com/

If you stumble upon a good other way to do this, apart from labelling it full of warnings, let us know. Smiley

That's exactly what I thought was going on.  I don't have a problem with the brain wallet, but if I end up teaching my students about NXT and/or doing a giveaway to my newsletter, I might use the QT style client.

A couple of ideas to make the official client easier for new people:

  • On the sign-in screen add a 2-sentence message above the passphrase field reminding people they need to type it in exactly, including punctuation and capitalization and that if they enter it incorrectly they may see a zero balance but can just sign back out and try again
  • Once they're signed in, if possible, you could have the client do a check for whether the wallet had been "activated" (or whatever the term is) and if not prompt them with a message saying their account needs a one-time activation and then offer a button to open the form you linked me to right inside the client - perhaps w autofill of the account ID and the public key?
  • I swear I had a third suggestion, but I don't remember now  Smiley

Hope that helps.
