241  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Israel Bitcoin Conference July 28-29, 2014 on: July 23, 2014, 03:33:12 PM
Palestinians gave a little land to the jews back in the day to live on and those unthankful slaves took over more than half the country.
We bought the land. We paid top dollar for worthless swamps, and worked hard to drain them and make them livable. The Arabs were envious of our success, much like a small child who only wants a toy when he sees another one playing with it. They attacked unprovoked, and we retaliated, repeating ad infinitum.

killing 300-400 palestinians before breakfast everyday.
The only reason there are less Israeli civilian casualties than Palestinian, is that Israel protects its civilians with guidance and shelters, and Hamas uses civilians as human shields.
242  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Israel Bitcoin Conference July 28-29, 2014 on: July 23, 2014, 05:30:28 AM
Regrettably, the conference has been postponed. As of yesterday I still believed we were able to make a great conference despite the situation, but the developments today with regards to flights, and the resulting cancellations, pretty much put the final nail in the coffin.

The official announcement is at http://bitcoin.org.il/files/Israel%20Bitcoin%20Conference%20Cancellation%20Notice.pdf.

I am truly sorry it turned out this way despite my earlier outspoken optimism.

sorry to hear about it Meni - but you've got to admit, you're a fucking wierdo trying to hold such an event in a war zone.  TelAviv just isn't suitable for business.  That's a fact.  Won't be for another 50 years.  If you guys don't smash every last one of those Palestinians, they are going to come back at you like cockroaches over and over again.  Maybe move to TelAviv West (Manhattan)?  At least they haven't had a serious attack in 12 years.
I'll admit no such thing. We do business in Tel Aviv and Israel just like everywhere else.

We've also had many Bitcoiners travel here (see for example some guest lectures we've had) and they always love it here.

It is usually very safe here. True, once in a while we have more troubled times, like now - but even then it shouldn't be blown out of proportion, the risk isn't bigger than what you're taking when driving a car. And of course, the fact of the matter is that people do have conferences and all kinds of other business here.

It makes sense the airport was closed for a while because of the rocket strikes and right now a war is pretty much going on
Another time
The airport wasn't closed - flights are still allowed (and encouraged) from our side, and I do believe many flights are still happening.

No 3 teenagers were killed thats false info. And even if they were bombing and killing 1000 because of that is what only a retard state can do and thats israhell. They live on american aid and waste american citizens hard earned tax money on bombs and weapons.
Now that this thread is about kittens, I'll allow myself to join the mudfight.

There are facts and there is propaganda. It's usually pretty clear which is which. The facts are:

1. The status quo is that the Palestinian leadership is using the available funding for combat measures rather than building civilian infrastructure, causing their population to live in terrible conditions.
2. Hamas has, without provocation, abducted and murdered 3 teenagers.
3. We've retaliated to clarify this is unacceptable. Hamas is deliberately putting civilians at risk during these attacks.
4. We're constantly seeking a truce, and Hamas constantly rejects it.
5. We're handling everything with velvet gloves. Our restraint is the paragon of countries everywhere. If someone did to the US what the Hamas does to us, they'd be crushed into little cubes.

Could we do the Jesus thing and turn the other cheek? Maybe... But there is such a thing as being too nice.

oh.. and Einstein was Jewish and this is what he said, and of course, I love him too.
Obviously Einstein didn't really say that. See for example http://skepticaesoterica.com/debunking-fake-albert-einstein-quotes/. Everyone loves to put words in his mouth, without any sort of reliable source, to gain credibility.

Anyway, you are all entitled to your own political agenda (even if a bogus one), but please leave Bitcoin out of it. Bitcoin transcends all this senseless hatred.

Oh, I forgot to mention! My mother is jewish, so i guess I'm half?
If your mother is Jewish, then you are Jewish.
245  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: List of Big companies accepting Bitcoin on: July 21, 2014, 04:22:13 PM
Thanks, a list like this is badly needed.

Is it possible to add to each company some measure of how big it actually is? Some names are instantly recognizable, some not so much (to me anyway). Maybe also the date it started accepting Bitcoin.
246  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Israel Bitcoin Conference July 28-29, 2014 on: July 21, 2014, 01:13:52 PM
Let us know how it goes...Your fee should be in btc
Payment with Bitcoin is of course possible. The price is denominated in USD because the Bitcoin rate is still too volatile - lately it's been ok but if the rate doubles tomorrow the ticket price shouldn't double as well.

I'd love to go. I'm truly fascinated with the old world.
Looking forward to seeing you.
247  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Is anyone following the Israel & Palestine Situation. on: July 17, 2014, 05:55:00 PM
FACT:
"GOY" or "GOYIM" means CATTLE/UNCLEAN and refers to all non-Jews.
That's false. "Goy" means "a people". By extension, it refers to the peoples other than the Jewish people, that is, non-Jews.

FACT:
The Jews don't have a devil or Satan as their "bad guy." Their "bad guy" is ALL NON-JEWS!!!
In Judaism, there is a Satan, though his role is different than in Christianity. He indeed is not the bad guy. He works for God and his job is to strengthen people's spirituality by challenging them with temptations (which, hopefully, they overcome). Also to prosecute them for any sins they may have committed.

While the Halakha does have some laws that belittle non-Jews, they are not AFAIK considered "The bad guys".

Anyway, most Jews in Israel are secular and pay little heed to these matters.

Come on, it will be a blast!
Poor choice of words.
It was a pun, meant in a humorous way. With a hidden message that the whole thing should be taken lightly, there is nothing to fear but fear itself.
249  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Israel Bitcoin Conference July 28-29, 2014 on: July 16, 2014, 06:59:28 PM
I think political situation is not good enough in Israel. So i think they should think again about this conference.
You do know we've been working hard on this conference for the past 6 months, right? We'd need a good reason to throw our efforts down the drain.

Yeah Smiley But AFAIK flights aren't cancelled yet, and I do urge you to consider coming anyway:

1. Hopefully things will be better in 2 weeks.
2. Tel Aviv is protected by Iron Dome and statistically, I think getting hit by a missile is less likely than being in a car accident. Most of us just ignore alarms. For those who are more risk-averse, Tel Aviv is pretty distant from Gaza, there's 1.5 minutes to get to shelter which is more than enough.
All the clever explanations in the world wouldn't convince me.  It is a fucking war with bombs going off.  No matter what level of 'hey, everything is OK via Iron Dome', I am happy I cancelled my trip.  Israel is a god-damned war zone surrounded by people who swear they will wipe it from the map.  Not a great place to visit for business if you're asking me.
Come on, it will be a blast!

SCNR. I just hope you'll reconsider.

So this shit has been canceled?
Why would you think that? Things are moving forward as planned.

Sorry Meni, I jinked you by asking about the safety of Tel Aviv. Something does not want me to go to Israel before I die. Well, maybe next time.

Aren't large gatherings in tel-aviv contrary to the guidelines dictated by the state given the situation with the bombings?
Current guidelines apply only to cities up to 40km from the Gaza strip, Tel Aviv is outside this range - there's plenty of time to get to shelter; and that's assuming the whole thing doesn't blow over by then.

Was wondering if there were any.
I tried Mapped In Israel but couldn't find any specific ones.
Would be interested to know if there were any. Smiley

257  Economy / Services / [Closed] Wanted: PHP Script to collect data on addresses on: July 09, 2014, 12:55:17 PM
Hi, I'm offering 0.2 BTC for PHP code that does the following:

1. Accepts a list of Bitcoin addresses as a parameter.
2. Queries each address on blockchain.info or equivalent.
3. Outputs a tsv of all transactions involving one of the addresses in the list. For every such transaction there should be a row with the following fields:
* The address involved
* The balance change for the address in this transaction (total value of all outputs to this address, minus total value of all inputs from it)
* The date at which the transaction occured.
4. For addresses that do not appear in the blockchain at all, there should be a row with the address and 0 in the other fields.
5. The rows should be sorted by the address (in the original order the addresses were given), and then by the transaction date.

The code should be safe against injection attacks (if there is such a risk in the first place).
