241  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: ANN CureCoin is launched 5/10/2014 on: May 16, 2014, 02:20:13 AM

Oh that's nice...it was only a matter of time before people started trying to do that stuff. Everyone needs to understand that the client doesn't always display the right ETA, and that they are only hurting themselves and more importantly the science by dropping WUs and missing out on their bonus points.

It might be worth mentioning the importance of finishing work units and the kind of commitment we need from people in big bold letters on the getting started information page.

Best I can compare it to is when you're downloading a torrent and you get to the end of the download but nobody is seeding the last piece.

Its like that,  but instead you might singlehandedly set a huge and important medical research calculation back by up to a week because you couldn't be bothered to finish what you started.

Preaching to the choir I know. Can't help myself sometimes Grin
242  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][LGC] Logicoin | DGW | X11 | No Premine | DGW3 Incomming! on: May 16, 2014, 12:22:45 AM
LGC is currently being easymined or hacked by some kind of share/difficulty exploit.

Earlier, while solo mining, I watched the difficulty plummet from 70-80 down to 4. Whats really freaky is how the difficulty continued to decrease, despite the fact that the instamine was well under way. This screenie was taken just before it dipped to 4.

6 blocks minted in only 14 seconds ! Shocked

That's exactly what's supposed to happen when a large proportion of mining hash suddenly disappears from the network, because when that happens, the hash that's left takes much much longer to solve the current block. After that "hard block" gets solved, difficulty drops so that the network can catch up to where it is supposed to be in the blockchain.

Every coin does this. It's just more evident on the logicoin network because our core hash is so small. Add up all the hash on our mining pools. Its a pittance compared to other coins.

So if you're going to spread fud about a hack or easymining, how about some proof that it isn't just this phenomenon that all coins deal with. Otherwise, don't label it like that, just post your pictures, summarize what you saw and ask for an explanation. If you don't agree with the answers you get, let us know. Show us something we haven't considered. Anything. Help us!

If it is just a huge coin switching pool then that IS a problem, and by the sounds of things, its being worked on. But its not a hack.

Did the coin fork?

http://chainz.cryptoid.info/lgc/#

Looks like many of the other pools are offline and there's only an UNKNOWN that's doing like 85% of the extraction.

Don't think there's a fork. But x11 multipools have hit us hard:(

nobody wants to buy this coin, another failcoin. Undecided  there is no reason for growth Huh

We are working on things behind the scenes. In the meantime we're just keeping things light and fun and active. Feel free to take part and have fun with us!

I was wondering if anyone's considered hitting this thing from the third angle. We've got GPU's hitting the folding pretty hard. We've got SHA256 ASIC's hitting the mining end pretty hard. What about a multipool so the SCRYPT ASIC's can hit the value end of things? Then all mining hardware could be used to develop and support CureCoin. Just a thought.

We have nothing useful for scrypt asics to do and it would effectively require a hard fork for nothing.

Asics secure network
GPUs fold

Scrypt Asics would be worse at securing the network especially because their are a lot less.
Scrypt Asics can't fold.

No no, scrypt asics could mine at a MultiPool, like BlackCoin's or CinniCoin's multipool. Basically they would mine Scrypt Based altcoins, and the multipool would automatically trade them for CureCoins. It's a proven technique that allows Scrypt miners to apply buy pressure to coins that are otherwise unobtainable for them.

It wouldn't require any change to the wallet or network. The Scrypt Miners literally just buy coins in exchange for their hashpower.

Buy pressure created by these pools is almost none.... I think BCpool last time I looks was creating 7BTC of buy pressure... That is nothing. Those multipools are basically hype machines for people that do not do the math. Sounds like it would work though.

Totally agree. First of all these pools are always associated with sh*tcoins that are desperately looking to create some hype/ fake demand.
Copying an idea for the tenth time just doesnt work anyway. You need to be ahead of the curve just like this coin is to create some value  Cool

Can anyone elaborate on a few technical aspects of the coin ?

# If there is no hard cap for the coins how was the 5% premine done ? 5% of ∞ is ? Huh
# How does the " Network balancing" mentioned in the OP work ? How does an increase in SHA256 difficulty affect folders ?

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AvPoRrj3QF5sdGlxUzdKVVgyaWZvZGlaT195OEFKZmc&usp=sharing

Ok, fact that the coins for the folders were all premined doesnt look so good Undecided  I wonder why couldnt that just be divided between the miners and folders as the coins are minted ?
So essentially one person is in control of ~80% of the coins ? Paying folders is done manually ?
What happens if the developer dies in a plane crash etc and takes the private keys with him ?

Just trying to get some clarity here.

Yeah, that is literally my only concern. I'd very much like to see a hardfork that releases the coins to the folding pool as the blocks are minted, instead of having them premined. I have not a single doubt that the Dev's intentions are honorable, and that, quite frankly, this is his baby and he would never do anything to harm it. But what happens if this coin outlives him? Can we trust the people that follow? Wouldn't it be easier to make the necessary changes to ensure the coin's survival while it's still young?

I'm on board either way. I think this project is too important not to take part. But the premine is an issue, and one that does concern me.

You have to also understand that F@H is not under the dev's control. It's under Stanford University and it has been going on since 2000.

Since folding is not mining and vice versa, you can't just depend on the miners solving blocks and the mining pools giving the coins to the folding pool so that they can payout to the folders.

I can't think of a better system that the dev has already implemented except maybe increasing payouts to twice a day instead of once.

What I was thinking was have each minted block pay 20%(13 coins) to the block solver and 80%(52 coins) to the folding pool wallet. The folding pool wallet would still need to be tightly secured, and payouts would still need to be paid from it similar to how they are now, but there's security in the fact that if that wallet does somehow become compromised or abused then only several thousand coins are stolen before the problem can be fixed. Not 21 million coins.

There's something unsettling about knowing that almost 80% of all the coins that there will ever be is just sitting pretty in a wallet somewhere. It will also make it difficult to check how many curecoins are actually in circulation - because the only way to do that is to exclude that one particular wallet, which is a little unsettling by itself.

I completely agree about not copying the idea with under the false premise to boost value of the coin. It could have some limited effect, but MultiPools aren't going to raise the value of this coin - eventhough that's the tired stereotype that's been attached to the idea. Rather, I propose a MultiPool for an entirely different purpose: it's ability to include mining hardware that would otherwise be excluded from participating in the CureCoin project: namely Scrypt ASIC's.

Anyway, I'm just tossing the idea out. It's nothing the dev's need worry about, but if the community takes hold of it it might be a good idea. Who knows? I just thought I'd throw it out there.

I guess what you're trying to say is,

SHA256 ASICs - Keep the blockchain going
GPUs - Folding the proteins
Scrypt ASICs - Multi-pool for earning curecoins

It sounds good, but we would have to remind miners it would be better to fold on their GPUs compared to mining scrypt on a multi-pool which they may direct to as they might not understand what is folding.

Exactly. I was just trying to think of a way to include Scrypt ASIC's in this project, because I do believe it is a big exciting thing that everyone is going to want to be a part of. I also think that's been part of the CureCoin message from the beginning, they welcomed ASIC's, GPU's and CPU's, and made them all relevant to the project. Scrypt ASIC's are sort of a redheaded stepchild though, so making up some way for them to contribute would be awesome. I honestly don't think the buy pressure from a multipool is going to make a tremendous difference to the price, but it WOULD allow people that recently invested heavily into Scrypt ASIC's and become excited about the project the ability to mine CureCoins by proxy and support the project that way. GPUs should only be used for folding, and that should be made absolutely clear.

So do we just post an address:
*********************************

Technically no, you can buy them at bittrex atm, as that's pretty much the only way to get them right now.

With that said, I just sent you 1k for fun.

Please note that I'm not encouraging handing out freebies for posting - that's against the rules. I think posting your address in the thread is against the rules too, so please put that in your signature. This was a one time thing. People reading this in the future: You can buy pinkcoins at Bittrex.com - and eventually mine them at our multipool when we get that online.

So I think I found the solution to the wallets. I finally got this to work with the correct target being set to OSX 10.7. If all the OSX users out there could give this a test and let me know if you have any issues.

I can't confirm but I can tell you've been working hard on it and that's enough for my 50k. When sonysasankan gets on he should be able to verify that it works with his system and take care of you accordingly:)

Example of mac wallets that work on lion include Bargescoin, JuggaloCoin, SummerCoin, Global Denomination, HiroCoin, ECC Coin, etc.... just in case you want to look at what was different in the code...

My guess is that it's a dependency issue. But all the same. If w8 can get it working on Lion up it sounds like he's got another 200k pink coming to him. If not, well, as long as we can verify what he did works on any OS X platform then he'll at least get 100k from private funds on top of what he's gotten so far, which more than covers the original bounty anyway, and the original bounty will stand for a more compatible version. Sound right guys?

Yup... that's a decent bounty and once the prices go up, even better. Speaking of which... CC'ed you a PM regarding some questions from a multipool operator I'm talking with. Did you get it?

Got and responded. Fingers crossed.

Never received coins for Mac Wallet. What gives?

Thanks,
w8

Didn't know there was one. Could you please upload the mac wallet to mega and post the link here as well as your PC address? The one in dropbox looks deleted. I will send the bounty after checking it out.

I stopped using Mega due to some users complaining that downloads become corrupt.

Hey... I'm getting the quit unexpectedly error. I've noticed some coin's mac wallets has this problem while some doesnt. I'm on Lion 10.7.5 We would like this mac wallet atleast to be compatible from Lion onwards. Could you take a look?

If someone can verify that the wallet works on Mountain Lion or Mavericks I'll send w8 50k pink from my personal funds for his trouble, on top of anything else. Agreed that we do really need one that will work from Lion up though.

CryptoCayce  are you there or you abonded us?

no I definitely did not.

I've just been trying to connect with people behind the scenes to help improve Pinkcoin and get us off the ground buzzing in the right direction.

to get attention and adoption I am giving away 10,000 pinkcoins to 100 of my followers on twitter

https://twitter.com/CryptoCayce

Guys we need to get attention and adoption to this coin.

I have decided that over the next 2 months I am going to give away a total of 9 MILLION Pinkcoins (that I purchased with my hard earned btc @ ~19 satoshi), ~3% of the marketcap to people who believe in Pinkcoin, will help it grow into a flourishing community of passionate and compassionate caring crypto lovers who will hold onto the coins for the long term.

so far I have given away ~200k Pinkcoin on twitter, 8,800,000 Pinkcoin left to giveaway!!
